Re: The Nikkei Reports Potential Nintendo Smartphone Strategy, to be Announced This Week

Raptor78

@hosokawasamurai
I think if Nintendo have supporting apps and games on smart devices like Microsoft it could work. But I don't think they should sell out and release full titles that would be suicidal. I Know that Smartglass is just an app that acts as a crappier version of the wiiu gamepad but it was just an example of Microsoft using smart devices. Nintendo could release other use full apps relating to their systems, most Obvious being the miiverse app... And mabey an app to allow you to conect to the wiiu chat from devices other than wiiu so it can be a bit more accessible.... By the way Kinektimals works really well on a tablet and unlocks additional content within the Game. My kids play it from time to time.

Re: The Nikkei Reports Potential Nintendo Smartphone Strategy, to be Announced This Week

Raptor78

I remember when they brought out the internet browser Nintendo used to have Flash demos of some of their games like "zoo keeper" "Mario vs Donkey Kong" and that Zelda/Tingle game and probably a dozen or so other small games... And they were playable in the Wii browser. They were basic games but wet your appitite... Some were completely different from the game it was advertising like a hungry hungry hippo style Kirby minigame.

Re: The Nikkei Reports Potential Nintendo Smartphone Strategy, to be Announced This Week

Raptor78

I wouldn't mind companion apps to go along with wiiU and 3DS games. A bit like the Animal Crossing app on the wiiU. Or... If they released mini game apps that are a different experience from the game it is supporting but rewards you for playing the mini game within the retail game if you link it to your NNID. The next Bravely Default could do with something like this instead of the street pass village.

Re: Nintendo of America Keen to Boost StreetPass Participation and Explore New Ideas

Raptor78

@demonroach

1. Streetpass adds another level to most games and is optional not essential. You don't like it you don't use it simple as.

2. Many 3DS games have online play, some of which incorperate the streetpass feature for those that don't actually get streetpasses (eg. Resident Evil Revelations gives you RE:R Streetpass data from people you play online with. and other games like Mario Kart adding Miis of those you pass to your Plaza)

3. You must have an unusually large 3DS XL as my 8 year old daughter has no problem carying hers around.

...and finally I don't remeber you ever saying anything positive on this site so I guess you are just trolling my good sir and as such I will end my conversation with you here.

...anyway in regards to Streetpass on the whole. I used to try and take every opportunity to pick up hits at events and when I was shopping in busy / urban areas etc, but actually found I got more hits in more local / rural areas so I think this must be down to the 3DS conecting to free wifi spots over Streetpassing other 3DS's. Since Nintendo set up these free wifi spots as Streetpass relays I get many hits a day from these and with the added bonus of getting worldwide hits aswell. Hopefully with a lot more atention to these relays Streetpass will take off in a really big way.

Re: Talking Point: Miiverse Can Promote System Unity And Serve As A Powerful Wii U Advertisement

Raptor78

I think until they make a non game specific community or letting 3ds owners post to their own private feeds then a lot of game communities will get spammed with random stuff... Just because there's no where else to post it...
And in regards to posting photos, it works in the same way game notes work. You pause the game, open miiverse and when you post a message you get the option to add the picture from the paused game.

Re: Soapbox: Even With The Arrival Of PS4 And Xbox One, I'd Still Pick The Wii U

Raptor78

The best console and the biggest leap from its predecessor in the latest generation has to be the 3DS ... but in regards to the big three home consoles the wiiU does seem to be the one to offer a bigger improvement over the other two. PS4 and XBone doesn't have any titles that make me want to splash out that much cash at the moment and I think it will be at least a year and a few price drops before I consider one or the other, and this coming from a MASSIVE fan of the Dead Rising series. Dead Rising 3 is great but not worth shelling out so much cash for.
Gone are the days you can get everything you want from one company, I myself had the wii as my main last gen with a 360 to cover the rest of my needs, and it looks as though this gen its going to be the wiiU... backed up once again with the 360, at least until PS4 or the XBone can convince me otherwise.

Re: Review: 3D Super Hang-On (3DS eShop)

Raptor78

Used to love the arcade game (ride on version) but wasnt too great at it even though I kept going back to it. This 3DS version really manages to bring back that feeling thanks to the cosmetic additions and plays as smooth if not better than the original... The game is short and repetative but ideal for a handheld device. I have played this in a lot of short bursts since buying it and thanks to the optional A.I difficulty, I feel like I have got a lot better at playing it since 1987 .lol

Re: SEGA Offers Atlus Its Dormant IPs and States The Company Will "Remain The Same" Under SEGA Ownership

Raptor78

I would love to have Phantasy Star pretty much rebooted on two fronts... Atlus coming up with a new Phantasy Star RPG series, much akin to the original series and Sega rebooting the Phantasy Star Online series. I would happily play the RPG's on the handheld 3DS and a new PSO could be a killer online game for the wiiU providing it was more like the original Dreamcast... Gamecube era rather than the later blue burst, universe kind of game.

Re: Video: This IronFall Tech Demo is Rather Impressive

Raptor78

I expect it will be a short but sweet eshop title with a reasonable pice in a hope that other companies will buy and use the game engine for much bigger retail titles.I dont mean this in a nagative way, the engine looks amazing and as im a fan of the over the shoulder gears of war shooter style game rather than first person shooter games I cant wait to see how this evolves, I just imagine that with so much effort going into the engine that the game may be a little shallow. Still excited though!!!

Re: Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition Isn't Coming To Wii U

Raptor78

I thought they would have had second thoughts about releasing it on the 360 after Microsoft messed up with the digital download which resulted in everyman and their dog downloading the full game for free. I never bothered with it but I imagine the number of sales they would have lost from the people that did may have put them off using Microsoft ever again.

Re: Events: Nintendo Life At Eurogamer Expo 2013

Raptor78

Would loved to have come but London is so far away.
Any chance of a Streetpass Tour of the UK going to all the major cities?
Like when Nintendo used to tour with the handhelds to promote the original 3DS. I got loads of hits then.
Anyway, im glad to see how well it went. Congratulations on a successful event.

Re: Wii Karaoke U by JOYSOUND to Threaten Neighbour Relations From 4th October

Raptor78

Sounds similar to the Karaoke app on the Xbox, which isnt such a bad thing. I think it works pretty well and prefer having the option of paying for units of time for a massive library of songs instead of buying retail with mabey about 40 or so songs which you may sing about half if your lucky. Pay per play works well for when you may have partys and suchlike. I hope its a success for Nintendo.

Re: TowerFall Creator Has Been Approached By Nintendo

Raptor78

As an Ouya backer you find that the Ouya has quite a growing little collection of indie games like this and Nintendo could do well keeping an eye on some of these developers and offer them good work on the 3DS / wiiU. Currently Ouya has a kick starter financial incentive for exclusive Ouya games but only ask for 6 months exclusivity... just enough time to work out any kinks and port it to a Nintendo system.

Re: StreetPass DLC System Update Finally Hits North America

Raptor78

The best game of them all is the least obvious.... the Gardening game. The only reason I got it was because I wanted the other three and it was the same to buy the full package. Once you get past the boring initial stages of the game it becomes a massive Gardening / RPG experience. I do the change date trick on my 3DS to rack up tons of coins a day to spend on this game. The one I play the least is Mii Force which is good but doesnt really evolve as much as the other games...

In order of preference (after playing them is...)
StreetPass Garden
StreetPass Mansion
StreetPass Battle
StreetPass Squad.

...also its worth playing the games to unlock the full Costumes instead of just the hats for your mii. Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Yoshi... etc. I cant wait to see it they have a Metroid Outfit.

Re: Feature: Robust DLC Ensures That Fire Emblem: Awakening Just Keeps On Giving

Raptor78

Ive got all the packs so far and have three saves on the go... one where im playing without DLC, hard and classic etc. The other two im using the DLC to grind etc, but with one of them is purely for the purpose of raising the offspring what I want with the right abilities etc. Overall im having a blast ith the game and I dont feel like a cheat as such because im still slowly working my way through the game in the way its ment to play (albiet resetting the game when a character dies ;D )
The Champions pack is a bit dull and easy so far, but the Golden Pack is good for grinding and the Scramble Pack seems to be the best of the bunch so far with plenty of events and conversations etc and a decent bit of difficulty when playing at the lower levels and your trying to build relationships. Im really looking forward to the other two Scramble maps.

Re: Out Today: Fire Emblem: Awakening (Europe)

Raptor78

Recived my Pre-Order from Game yesterday... sure it was a £1 dearer than most other pre-orders but the free Art Book was definitely worth the extra. Ploughed through to chapter 5 and bought the full Champion Pack (£2.99) so at least im covered DLC wise for the next few weeks. Although part 1 of the Champion Pack is currently Free for anybody who isnt sure about getting the DLC.

Re: Review: Crimson Shroud (3DS eShop)

Raptor78

The second play through is really worth the effort... it makes the first play through seem like a Tutorial. The enemies really step up their game and the battles need much more stratergy and thus even simple dungeon fodder like Goblins take a lot longer to defeat, better rewards though for your efforts... somebody posted elsewhere that the original version had a new game++, not sure if I will be able to make it through the new game+ but it would be interesting to know whether the eshop version will have the same option.

@Falk_Sturmfels... you need to get an artifact from one of the battles with the undead. Before you select your loot from the battles take your time to read the info that goes along the top of the bottom screen when you highlight an item, it will give you an idea of what your looking for. A big clue is that the object you need is something to do with the darkened room.

Re: Review: Liberation Maiden (3DS eShop)

Raptor78

Liberation Maiden is short but incredibly fun. But there is a lot of unlockable achievements to keep going back to the stand alone stages for. It is a high score arcade game and I didnt mind the price because what you do have seems to be of a really high quality and the 100% voice acting and the Manga animation are a nice bonus.
You do get the feel of a retail game from this and if they add a lot more stages and possibly an online element to this they could well make a stand alone retail title rather than a single downloadable title or part of a retail compilation.

Im really looking forward to Crimson Shroud next ...
hell, I wish they would just localise Guild 01.

Re: PETA Targets Pokémon Black & White 2 in Latest Campaign

Raptor78

Ahhh PETA again. Don't worry they never mean any harm... they get a good bit of press, Pokemon gets some good press everyone wins.
Even bad publicity is good publicity! PETA know this and know they will get a panning from Nintendo supporters but at the same time they will be popping up in posts all around the net and mabey even pick up a few new PETA supporters along the way.

Re: Kevin Butler Actor Seen Near Wii Console... Sony Takes Him to Court

Raptor78

What confuses me is why they (Sony) allow One Direction to do the 1D in 3D short videos and adverts for the wii and 3DS and they cant allow an actor not even claiming to be Kevin Butler in the advert.
I understand by allowing One Direction to produce these videos and adverts will also shift their (Sony) albums and singles whilst promoting games such as Mario Kart but at the end of the day One Direction IS a Sony Product promoting whats considered a rivals product and Jerry isnt allowed to use his OWN face in another advert.

And yeah I know Sony music isnt the same as Sony games but it just seems ironic that they let their star performers be Ambassadors for a rival company even going as far as releasing promotional gold pant miis... mabey Nintendo should release a special "Jerry Lambert" gold pant mii. lol

I just dont understand Sony sometimes.

Re: Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy Earns Passing Rank in UK Chart

Raptor78

I quite like Rhythm games but I wasn't too impressed with the demo for this game, but hey that's what demos are for. I'm glad that it made it into the charts though, just because I wasn't impressed only ment it didn't tick the boxes for me... heres hoping for a 3DS Elite Beat Agents game in the future.

Re: Satoru Iwata: 'Deep' Online Services May Have a Cost

Raptor78

It seems that Nintendo will want to get as many people online so generally everything will be free to pull the consumers in, but I dont think they want to put off big developers like Capcom from offering charges for their services and in the long run it will probably encourage those developers to offer their own private servers via Nintendo's online services for mabey a small game related fee. After all im sure Nintendo have mentioned that with the wiiU they were looking into those "freemium" type games which will offer free play but with the option of purchasing additional content. Mabey we could see a World of Warcraft sytle MMO on the wiiU system which may be free a low levels but would require a subscription at higher levels... thus pleasing both the casual and hardcore audiance.

Re: Feature: Sharing Some Hits at a StreetPass Event

Raptor78

Cities are far from being the ideal place to get streetpasses...
I havnt got from any of the times I have been to London and thats the Capital city, only ever had a few from Leeds and Wakefield... most of them I get are from Towns such as Pontefract.
I have 181 hits with a population of 288 and im quite satisfied... my logic for why it is so hard to get them in cities is not down to lack of people with 3DS spotpass on etc... Its down to all that free wifi available because I have noticed when im contected to the internet via spotpass I am unable to recieve streetpasses, and large cities seem to have loads of free wifi spots unlike small towns.

Re: Heroes of Ruin Demo Hits North America Next Week

Raptor78

If this is the same as the Euro Demo then it has some good and bad points...
the good is, online and offline available in demo (up to 4 players), A full main Quest with smaller quests and a good side quest, TWO of the four character classes to try out with character customisation.
The bad is that we only got 6 plays of the demo!!! …oh, and no voice chat and a level cap of 4.
Its the first demo where I used up all my plays and we only got it a week before the game came out, you guys will have to strerch it to two weeks...

oh, and I dont think the online will be compatible with the full game because the quest isnt quite the same as the one in the main game.

Re: Review: Heroes of Ruin (3DS)

Raptor78

There is a lot of emphasis on playing through with all four types and 6 hours is quite a quick run through... taking it steady and doing daily challenges while going through it took me nearer 10 hours solo... so I wouldnt look at it being a 6 hour campaign, it feels around a 30+ hour to 100% four characters and then daily / weekly challenges and online multiplayer will add even more.

Re: Review: Heroes of Ruin (3DS)

Raptor78

I for one have enjoyed my time spent in the world of ruin. There have been a lot of negative comments around the web, mainly from people who stormed through the game instead of enjoying it... so it must have been entertaining enough to plough through the whole thing in the first place. N-Space themselves have seem to do their best at responding to these concerns and critisisms which can only be a good thing.
It isn't the perfect game, it has a lot of minor faults and things but its entertaining and does a damn good job of it too. For those people who havnt yet got it such as the US and were looking forward to this title, stick to your first instinct but be prepared for a short main game. There is plenty to do with the daily challenges and such like and online works really well and is fun... but then again the amount of money I used to through at the arcades playing Guantlet was stupid so i love these little multiplayer hack n slash games.
Overall I think it was a good review.

Re: Nintendo Continues Software Dominance in Japan

Raptor78

I preordered Heroes of Ruin and It didnt turn up until Monday, however I checked out all the shops near me and non of them had recieved the game so it may be down to lack of availablity rather than it being a terrible game...
...anyhoo, ive been loving the game plenty of crap to collect on it, daily challenges are fun and I dont think that the non spawning bosses are a glitch... they are dead how many times do you have to kill a boss. The point is when a quest is complete you cant do the quest again, afterall you already have the reward and to complete some of those quests you have to kill a boss. So it doesnt seem like a game breaking glitch to me its just how the game works.
You get to have four save slots anyway and when your playing online you play it in the hosts world so if they have the boss in their world you will get to fight them all over, and with all the different combinations of skills and stat boosts, character equipment, etc. Its worth starting over again anyway so I dont find replayability an issue.
To sum it up, it isnt the greatest game in the world but I have found that it is well worth the money and you get out of it whatever you put in. This game didnt sell well down to shops not stocking it rather than a bad game.

Re: Heroes of Ruin Demo Available This Week

Raptor78

The WiFi multiplayer works well but its a shame that they had to omit the voice chat because I played a game last night where the other three players were running around like headless chickens after we had completed all but the main quest because I was unable to tell them where the final boss was and I was waiting there ages before the host of the game decided to end the session. I understand that demos dont have all the features of the full game and im gratefull that online multiplayer was included, I just imagine that the game will play so much better when we can talk to each other.

Re: Feature: The Full E3 2012 Schedule

Raptor78

WOW! The Queens Diamond jubilee AND the Nintendo Press Conference on the same day!!! I dont know what im more excited for.. lol

Still at least its a day off for everybody on that Tuesday we can get to watch the conference live

Re: Doubts About Monster Hunter 3 G Worldwide Release

Raptor78

I never expected this version to make it out of Japan in the first place, it would have been a nice suprise had it it but the same thing happened with the wii when Japan got the Monster Hunter G game but the rest of the world had to wait until Tri came out.
I think 4 will be a worldwide release and will no doubt include wifi multiplayer which in the western world is pretty much a must like everyone else who has mentioned, in Japan you can pretty much get a local Monster Hunter game going in no time whereas in the West if it wasnt for online multiplayer we would all be playing the game solo. Im willing to wait until the better version of the game comes out with more functions available because in the meantime I will still be working my way through my other 3DS games... and Heroes of Ruin comes out in a couple of weeks and I have that on pre-order.

Re: Samurai Warriors 3DS Sequel Confirmed for Japan

Raptor78

YEAH!!!!!!! Samurai Warriors 3DS was my first "warriors" game and I loved it, im so glad its getting a sequel... I wonder if they will be giving us loads of DLC again, I always looked forward each week to new scenarios and suchlike.
....needs online multiplayer though, the first one was screaming out for it

Re: Talking Point: Should Zelda Go Episodic?

Raptor78

Whats wrong with having both options, we already know that the 3DS and wiiU are going to have downloadable retail games so why not produce the game in a way that you could either buy the retail packaged version that has the complete game in all its glory or download the title in a few distinctive episodes. It would just mean that there would have to be a few points in the game where events happen that would feel like a complete chunk if you didnt feel the need to continue but yet make you feel compelled to purchase the next installment. It would only be like when Zelda went from being boy to a man in OOT or becoming the Wolf in TS etc. This would not only give the option of having a downloadable version of Zelda if that is what you want but it would give people who may have been put off by the epicness of Zelda or was even a little unsure of the game a chance to just purchase an episode and give it a try for less investment. I personally dont mind either way providing a game is well produced and above all offers me value for money, it doesnt mean that it has to be a massive game to offer value, I have played short games that I have enjoyed so much more than an epic one both at the same price point and I would have considered the shorter one better value on that basis. So yeah, I think that its possible to produce a Zelda game that would appeal to both camps here, one a complete boxed retail version with all the bells and whistles and the other consisting of a few downloadable episodes that effectively make up the complete game.

Re: Peter Molyneux Wants More From 'Lacklustre Wii U'

Raptor78

I have no worries regarding the wiiU... I look at it this way, Nintendo seem to trying stuff out with the 3DS that will no doubt be somehow put into the wiiU, the 3DS had a rocky start but they overcame that and is building up a decent 3rd party library that is moving away from the casual audience and into a more "gamer" arena and as far as Social gaming, Nintendo dont want to pander to Facebook / Twittwer etc, they have their own means of Social gaming that although it seems like baby steps at the moment im sure will be bigger and better on the wiiU. Despite what people may think about Swapnote, its the first thing I check in the morning, the little orange light in the corner of the 3DS blinks to let me know some of my buddies are online, I check to see what they are playing... low and behold some are playing a game that I play, what then ...I can just "join game" and play along side them. No bother whatsoever, this is Social gaming to me, not pestering people on facebook because your cow needs milking or you are missing a piece of wood from your collection. I find nintendo's aproach, although a little late in the game (pardon the pun) to work very well and if this is intergrated into the wiiU then I would be very happy. Sure its not perfect yet, but it is improving day by day.
The eShop, this is where apple kicks the handheld butt, but just like the social aspect of the 3DS this is also changing day to day. Nintendo are listening to its customers, probably for the first time in all honesty and trying to change the system around them... this is probably one of the reasons why Nintendo havnt been all upfront about the wiiU specs because mabey the system is in flux and changes (for the better) are being made on a daily basis, we will have to wait till E3 to see. But how Nintendo has managed the 3DS after the initial problems has totally restored my faith in the company and im sure lessons will have been learned in time for the wiiU's release.

Re: Talking Point: DS Games Deserve Digital Distribution on 3DS

Raptor78

DS games are quite cheap and easy to pick up... BUT, I do think DS digital distribution would be a great idea but I would probably stick to whats consider the "classics" and not include any DS remakes of earlier games that would narrow it down. Like Zelda Spirit Tracks would be a perfect example of DS eShop download. I would, truth be told, prefer GBA eShop games first but DS games would be easier to emulate... oh, and if Nintendo would be able to fix the old games that cannot use the 3DS / DSi new internet settings that would be worth the download itself.

Re: Europe Gets Rayman Origins 3DS Demo This Week

Raptor78

Still got loads of space on my SD card... glad I went for the full 32GB one, so cant wait to download this demo to add to the others.
I even keep the Demos of the games I have purchased in case im out and about and without the cart and my friends want to see what a game is like, although as soon as space becomes an issue they will be the first to go.
