@Henmii "But yeah, digital-only would be awful: Just look at all the VC/Wiiware/DSiware (yes, it has also begon there) games that got removed? "
Even though the titles have been removed from sale, you are still able to re-download them whenever you would like. It works just like the Ambassador games - those that are eligible to download them can still find them.
Some games I wouldnt mind having downloaded rather than cart because I tend to play them little and often rather than having great big gaming sessions etc. Nintendogs & cats is a good example of this, the only times I seem to play it now is when I get a pass, so I still want the game but not too bothered about having the physical game. Mario kart is another example of the little and often that I probably wouldnt mind just for convience. Most games I would still like the physical media, but at the end of the day its the choice that counts and wether we want downloadable retail games or not its better to have the option than not at all.
@JimLad the eShop currently has retail demos on the 3DS, although I only think there is small selection. Resident Evil and Metal Gear were good examples of these.
@Grumblebuzz, Super Mario Land 3D fit on a 512mb cart so that would make the game between the size of a 256mb and a 512mb cart - approximetly between 2000 & 4000 blocks so I see no issue about downloading it to an SD and regarding price at least retailers can decide on the price which would over time force them to be competative especially when online suppliers will be able to offer them at a cheaper price and with an instant copy on your 3DS.
"SkywardLink98 said: @Raptor78 Ya, but the standard 3DS cart holds 2GB of memory and games like Resident Evil: Revelations used 8GB."
Revelations was only 4GB and less than 20% of 3DS titles actually use the 2GB or above. 55% of 3DS titles are on 512mb or less. Doesnt seem too unrealistic for Nintendo to sell digitally especially seeing as those are the cart sizes and actually no indication to how big the game actually is. a 512mb game such as Pokemon Rumble will actually be somewhere between 256 and 512 and providing is priced aproprietly would probably sell as a download and with the eshop accepting code redemptions this could be done as easily as buying a code from a highstreet retailer rather than having to buy eshop credit.
Oh I when I said 512mb for Pilotwings I ment to say 128mb.. 512mb was for Nintendogs & cats.
As the Resident Evil demo was about 140mb these would definetly be considered as the are only on 128mb carts and would pretty much fit onto most peoples SD card.
Brunswick Pro Bowling, Bust-A-Move Universe, Cubic Ninja, Frogger 3D, Mahjong Cub3d, Nicktoons MLB, Petz Fantasy 3D, PilotWings Resort, Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection, Puzzler Mind Gym
...again my concern isnt the space (sd cards are resonably priced) it is how much Nintendo would be willing to sell them for and wether they would have sales on the prices over time to represent reduced retail prices.
In regards to size there was a article not long back that mentioned some sizes which was really surprising with games like Pilotwings Resort fitting on to a 512mb cart, so that would mean that the game would be even less than that and would be a perfect example of the retail download. Pricing on the other hand im not sure it would be as cheap as picking up the retail cart.
With 12 Retail carts and dozens upon dozens of downloable titles (dsi & 3DS) my 3DS gets more attention than my home consoles, now if only I could play Dead island and Saints Row 3rd on my 3DS I wouldnt need any other consoles. So im sick of people talking about lack of quality titles, at least I can understand XCWarrior in that $40 seems a lot to pay, but you should see the prices in the UK where 3DS games retail about £35 - £40 (about $65) with a few exceptions (that I usually pre-order) I tend to have a price in my mind and wait till the prices drops before getting it. I currently loving tales of abyss which sure was a PS2 title, but was never released this side of the pond.
Changing the colour of folders would have been nice but not essential. Not too keen on just having one letter on the folder so I have been putting a space first so to leave my folder blank... but Im liking the idea of putting a symbol first.
With the state of the economy in the UK most big shops are taking less risks and not giving us enough choice from them and when they do stock the games you want they are over priced and as a result you end up buying them elsewhere like play.com Zavvi (bluh!) etc... which get sent from the channel islands thus saving you money in the fact they dont pay tax on the goods but I also dont think they count towards the charts.
The odd thing is that PS3 games seem to be so cheap in the UK at the moment compared to other systems. I think its bad when I can buy a second hand Xbox game (not 360 either) and it can be more expensive than a 2nd hand PS3 game and I can pick up two PS3 games for the price of a new wii/3DS game.
Seeing as the cards on the Nintendo shop work out less than 50p for two packs, I cant see Panini charging a lot for them. The Doctor Who game cards that they used to sell were about 50p... so I reckon (drum roll) "50p" !!!!
This probably explains why SEGA have put a load of Dreamcast and Megadrive games on ONLIVE lately, very little outgoing cost to them and money for old rope so to speak. Its a shame they are struggling in the current climate but at least they are being pro-active about it. A shame about the cancelling of new IPs but I would rather that than SEGA taking chances and overall doing more damage to the companies finances... ...I hope this doesnt affect the Virtual Console though.
Wariowoods, glad you tried it out even if you didnt like it. What you say is pretty much true, but like the same way I sometimes enjoy watching the Evil Dead movies the cheesyness and mindless button bashing etc appeals to me when im in the right frame of mind for it, I cannot see how it can be compared to Zelda and anybody expecting it will be dissapointed. Im looking forward to the Darksiders sequel but just in the same way I might fancy going out for a KFC instead of 3 course meal. I havnt played Skyward sword yet but from my experiences of the other Zelda games Darksiders is nothing like the series.
I dont think the game was any less for not featuring these, it was nice to think that they were considered but I dont think people would have loved the game any more than they have done and it gives us something to possibly look forward to in future 3DS Resident Evils. I agree that Revelations would not have been as "scary" (more like jumpy) if CoOp Campaign would have been used but for some Resident Evils it would seem more suitable. Resi 1, Revelations... 4 even work well solitairy but I would like to see Resi 2 & 3 with a co-op campaign as they were not as creepy and much more swarms of zombie action which would work well with a co-op option.
Even if your a Nintendo only owner you could always play it on OnLive or even if you dont want to spend anything you could always just play it on the 30 miniute trial. OnLive plays on Android phones, google TV's and PCs/Netbooks etc. So there is plenty of opportunities to try the series and see what you think. http://www.onlive.co.uk/ or http://www.onlive.com/
I love Darksiders and never once when I have been playing it have I thought, hmmmmm this is a bit like Zelda. All I can think is that mabey the art style may make you think of Zelda but nah, a far a the game goes I dont think it feels like Zelda.
I enjoy both 3DS titles for different reasons and would welcome a sequel to either of them. If they do decide to make a Mercs sequel though it would have to be something really special... Raccoon City perhaps and Zombies and a PVP option. ...as far as a traditional Resi title, some earlier titles could be good REmade but to the standard of the Gamecube remake of the original rather than just "visually enhanced" like the recent remakes.
...part of the Darkside chronicles I liked was the "operation Javier" sections, I wouldnt mind playing a traditional version of that instead of on-the- rails.
I was sent the very special Zelda themed stationary via a friend a couple of hours ago, very cool and inspired me to play a bit of classic Zelda... I never bought LoZOoT3D so its good to see the special stationary can be shared with 3DS friends.
Im in two minds about this... I have about 12 quid left on my eShop account so im waiting for some of the other gamers opinions on this. Will probably spam everyone on Swapnote later to see if anybody has it and if so any reccomendations. I really want the rythym samurai sword thingy game and knowing my luck as soon as I buy this it will come out and I wont have enough credit.
same oppinion here as with everyone else, most of us probably have the game or have played the game. But it is good that they are releasing demos of games that have already been out for a while, it will make the eshop more complete over time. Street fighter IV and pilot wings anytime soon then.
I was always terribly anal about fire emblem... if one of my units was killed I had to stop the mission and keep playing... playing and playing again until I could complete it without anybody dying. No one gets left behind. lol
Dont know if I would use the casual option though, because that was always part of the fun trying to keep them alive even if it ment playing the same mission dozens of times until you were able to do it was all part of the Fire Emlbem experience.
Should be good for people who havnt played the series before because it can be off putting when you lose a well loved and experienced until for the first time.
@Shugo from my experience the CPP is much more comfortable than the tiny delicate dual analogue 'nipples' on the Vita. They are way too small and feel too delicate for gaming more than a short peroid of time. Gamer Claw hand!!!
I am quite happy with Swapnote, but what it REALLY needs is a way of organising the notes. options would be great, by sender, date order, unread, etc. ...yeah if Nintendo could fix that for me I would be pretty happy.
Bought it, played it, completed it... now im playing it all over again As far as the CPP it feels and plays just like the CCP that was included with Monster Hunter Tri just a little bit smaller. Worth a try but I ended up using the original controls because it plays similar to RE:Mercs... however I will definetly be playing Monster Hunter 3DS with the CPP.
I wasnt too keen on it before but still decided to go for the Zavvi exclusive package of Resient Evil which included it and now I quite like it. It feels like the Classic Controller Pro that was included with the Monster Hunter Tri package. Its about the same size, if not a little smaller but yeah pretty much like the CCP. I cant wait to play Monster Hunter on the 3DS with this thing.
@aaronsullivan "On the negative side, this will eventually mean no used games market, although that would be a long way off. Also, retailers could backlash against this big time. In the short term I don't think it effect them too dramatically. Most people would still buy the retail versions."
Retailers like "GAME" in the UK are welcoming downloadable games with open arms as it means they can shift games via Top Up cards. GAME are even one of the partners of ONLIVE in europe selling the cloud based gaming system set top boxes and even going to be exclusivly selling the top-up cards when they go on sale. Top Up cards means less dedicated shop floor space and no problem returns etc... whereas the shop can continue its focus on selling the hardware etc...
Nintendogs + Cats 512MB... isnt that around 4000 blocks... doesnt seem that bad really, but at a standard wifi speed it would have to be a background download.
I wasnt interested in wiiU when they were planning to release it so close to 3DS release but its suprising what a difference moving it a few months makes. I am quite happy, providing price is right, to buy it around the end of the year / christmas and I expect im not the only one who felt like it was being released to early. Those extra few months will also buy it more time to build up the launch software lineup and work out any kinks.
@ James Oh, I know that Residnet EVil and Snake Eater are huge and that there would be no way of downloading them even using background downloads. lol It was the fact that the Cooking Mama 4 demo seemed so tiny which leads me to believe that some 3DS games would still be of a similar size to mabey larger DS games which easily fit on carts upto 128MB. I probably imagine some of those early UBIsoft games not be be too large either based on some of their quality. lol
Just checked some card sizes and these look like they could sell as full retail downloads...
256MB Card Dream Trigger 3D (Bandai Namco) Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters (WB Games) Rayman 3D (Ubisoft) Steel Diver (Nintendo) Super Monkey Ball 3D (Sega) Tetris Axis (Nintendo) Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars (Ubisoft)
... PilotWings Resort would make a great budget title
I think the Resident Evil demo was of a significant size and hasnt had any download issue and DS games are much smaller by that standard, so retail DS games and smaller 3DS titles shouldnt have any problems being sold through the eShop. Its all down to Nintendo and wether they think its worth it... mabey a classic (budget) range without the need of any retail carts, im sure there is a couple of titles they could shift that way like 'steel diver' hmmmm.
I dont they would release a 3D classic version and a Nes VC version, more likely to release a retail sequel to the wii version... touch control fighting AND Gyroscopic controls for ducking and dodging with the graphics n style of the wii version would work.
Dead or Alive & Samurai Warriors are two of my favourite 3DS titles and have plenty of content and DLC so I hope this bodes well for a Tecmo Koei adn Pokemon group partnership.
Heres what happened... for years people being telling Nintendo they need demos, Nintendo believe that if people have demos they wont buy full game. Nintendo does "demo trials" to see how they work but dont follow up on them... then Capcom releases Monster Hunter Demo on the 3DS... Monster Hunter sells loads of copies when it hits the shelves. Nintendo realise that they may have been wrong for all these years and decide to finally start releasing demos properly.
The people who only give this game a short play and complain about the shallowness are missing out on some of the major unlockables within the game. I mean, I myself had already purchased paper plane, pyro (bird & beans) and Dr. Mario on the DSi but for other Ambassadors who havnt already purchased these DSiware titles may not be aware they are unlockable within the game... all they have to do is put the time into it. Still I dont regret buying the titles on DSiware because I have already had my moneys worth.
You can legally print off the original AR cards from Nintendo, you can make your own Pokemon AR cards so I cant see why they would make you buy them. It would be nice to be able to get a little random deck with the game and then mabey release downloads of the other cards for print and play over a period of time so eventually everybody would get the full set.
Oh wow. Tiger woods seems pretty much the same each year anyway and I remember that after Tiger Woods did fantastic when they released it on the wii and then once again when they did it with motion plus then it bombed the year after EA started moaning about wii owners. Surely the responsabilty was to the developer to not just add another year on the package and expect owners to go out there and spend their hard earned cash, no instead to them it was the fault of the wii owners for being clever enough to think,, this is pretty much the same as last years and not buy it. So nah, EA if your too lazy to make anything fresh for the wii I cant be bothered to buy your recycled cr@p anyway.
@Steampunk, if you check the net for videos of the Resident Evil demo that the Japanese got a few weeks ago, it is very much a different demo. It was a decent chunk of the story rather than what is more like a tech demo from Mercs. The Japanese demo had various language options available too so the demo is ready for whenever Nintendo release it to the eShop.
Japan got four new Demos in their eshop update!! Including Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil... when are they going to make there way over to blighty?
37 @goldgin With it using Streetpass and Spotpass I think the Spotpass features would work like wiiconect 24 so not so instant but I cant see why the Streetpass wouldnt work as quick as posting as it would be direct mail rather than going to a server. Surely that would be more or less instant. Well only have to wait until tomorrow although it will probably be Sunday until I get to test it face to face.
@dan563 The Streetpass / Spotpass are just the means that the message gets sent. It is still sent to people on your Friends List but depending on which you pass first, your friend (streetpass) or a wifi point (spotpass) is how it gets delivered. That way the program doubles as a mail system and a pictochat alternative.
I cant wait to get it and I will send EVERYBODY on my friends list a virtual 3DS christmas card.
I found the sound quality isnt as good compared to the SP but almost as good as the original GBA. I still use the original GBA as a controller on my Gamecube it feels so much better than the SP. As far as backlighting goes you can alter the backlighting on yor 3DS before selecting the GBA game and im sure it remains as bright or as dim as you want it, this may help those with the colours not showing correctly.
Ive started feeling sorry for non-ambassadors now. There is a great selection of games. It left me thinking that as a comprise they could have them available individualy via reward code but of a higher value than current games on offer. That way Ambassadors still get a great deal and Nintendo Club members that have a chance of picking up some of these titles. Also because these are rewards and not for individual sale they dont have to address the issues such as lack of multiplayer.
One or two of the games have the option from the original cart which allows for different colour etc for when you play them using the GBA player through your TV. That is one way to improve how they look and also as it is mentioned in the manuals you can play them in their original resolution but with a smaller screen. In all honesty I didnt find the graphic emulation that bad with the exception of one or two issues but I dont like the sound quality, that doesnt sound too good through the 3DS hardware. I still play some of these titles on my old SP and they look and play fine on the 3DS but the sound quality bugs me a bit.

You should try this on the 3DS...

use D-Pad to move blocks left n right, up rotates block and down drops faster.
I usually zoom so it fills boths screens and then I move it till it fits in the middle.

Re: Nintendo Still Envisions Selling Retail Games Digitally
@KromCompany
more than half of the current 3DS retail library are on 512mb carts or even less. They start from 128mb and go upto 4GB in some cases.
No games are 8GB at moment but the company that develops the carts have given that as a realistic figure of what they can go up to at the moment.
Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 to Kick Off Retail Downloads

Re: Nintendo Considering Retail Downloads on 3DS and Wii U
@ James
Oh, I know that Residnet EVil and Snake Eater are huge and that there would be no way of downloading them even using background downloads. lol
It was the fact that the Cooking Mama 4 demo seemed so tiny which leads me to believe that some 3DS games would still be of a similar size to mabey larger DS games which easily fit on carts upto 128MB. I probably imagine some of those early UBIsoft games not be be too large either based on some of their quality. lol
Just checked some card sizes and these look like they could sell as full retail downloads...
128MB Card
Bust-A-Move Universe (Square Enix)
Cubic Ninja (Ubisoft)
PilotWings Resort (Nintendo)
256MB Card
Dream Trigger 3D (Bandai Namco)
Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters (WB Games)
Rayman 3D (Ubisoft)
Steel Diver (Nintendo)
Super Monkey Ball 3D (Sega)
Tetris Axis (Nintendo)
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars (Ubisoft)
... PilotWings Resort would make a great budget title
Re: Nintendo Considering Retail Downloads on 3DS and Wii U
I think the Resident Evil demo was of a significant size and hasnt had any download issue and DS games are much smaller by that standard, so retail DS games and smaller 3DS titles shouldnt have any problems being sold through the eShop.
Its all down to Nintendo and wether they think its worth it...
mabey a classic (budget) range without the need of any retail carts, im sure there is a couple of titles they could shift that way like 'steel diver' hmmmm.
Re: Punch-Out!! is Japan's Next NES 3DS VC Game
I dont they would release a 3D classic version and a Nes VC version, more likely to release a retail sequel to the wii version...
touch control fighting AND Gyroscopic controls for ducking and dodging with the graphics n style of the wii version would work.
Re: New Pokémon Title Coming to Japan in March
Dead or Alive & Samurai Warriors are two of my favourite 3DS titles and have plenty of content and DLC so I hope this bodes well for a Tecmo Koei adn Pokemon group partnership.
Re: Your Favourite WiiWare Demos Are Now Back
Heres what happened...
for years people being telling Nintendo they need demos, Nintendo believe that if people have demos they wont buy full game.
Re: Wii U Panorama View Demo is Awesome
@Tech101
It may only be wired as it is a demo unit. I have been in shops where you can play wii demos and the remotes are wired for security reasons.
Re: Review: WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! (3DS Virtual Console / Game Boy Advance)
Re: Fact Sheet: Kid Icarus: Uprising Details Updated
You can legally print off the original AR cards from Nintendo, you can make your own Pokemon AR cards so I cant see why they would make you buy them. It would be nice to be able to get a little random deck with the game and then mabey release downloads of the other cards for print and play over a period of time so eventually everybody would get the full set.
Re: Tiger Woods, Your Time on Wii is Over
Re: Nintendo Download: 12th January 2012 (Europe)
No news on the Resident Evil demo yet, I thought with the game coming out before the end of the month we would have had the demo this week.
Re: Resident Evil: Revelations Demo on the Way
@Steampunk, if you check the net for videos of the Resident Evil demo that the Japanese got a few weeks ago, it is very much a different demo. It was a decent chunk of the story rather than what is more like a tech demo from Mercs. The Japanese demo had various language options available too so the demo is ready for whenever Nintendo release it to the eShop.
Re: Nintendo Download: 29th December 2011 (Europe)
Japan got four new Demos in their eshop update!! Including Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil... when are they going to make there way over to blighty?
Re: 3DS to Hit 4 Million Sold in Japan Sooner Than Expected
Not to mention the PS2 was cheaper than buying a dedicared DVD player when they came out.
Re: 3DS Finally Gets Messaging with Nintendo Letter Box This Week
37 @goldgin
With it using Streetpass and Spotpass I think the Spotpass features would work like wiiconect 24 so not so instant but I cant see why the Streetpass wouldnt work as quick as posting as it would be direct mail rather than going to a server. Surely that would be more or less instant. Well only have to wait until tomorrow although it will probably be Sunday until I get to test it face to face.
Re: 3DS Finally Gets Messaging with Nintendo Letter Box This Week
@dan563
The Streetpass / Spotpass are just the means that the message gets sent.
Re: Out Now: Nintendo 3DS Ambassador GBA Games
I found the sound quality isnt as good compared to the SP but almost as good as the original GBA. I still use the original GBA as a controller on my Gamecube it feels so much better than the SP. As far as backlighting goes you can alter the backlighting on yor 3DS before selecting the GBA game and im sure it remains as bright or as dim as you want it, this may help those with the colours not showing correctly.
Re: Out Now: Nintendo 3DS Ambassador GBA Games
Ive started feeling sorry for non-ambassadors now. There is a great selection of games. It left me thinking that as a comprise they could have them available individualy via reward code but of a higher value than current games on offer. That way Ambassadors still get a great deal and Nintendo Club members that have a chance of picking up some of these titles. Also because these are rewards and not for individual sale they dont have to address the issues such as lack of multiplayer.
Re: Out Now: Nintendo 3DS Ambassador GBA Games
One or two of the games have the option from the original cart which allows for different colour etc for when you play them using the GBA player through your TV. That is one way to improve how they look and also as it is mentioned in the manuals you can play them in their original resolution but with a smaller screen.
In all honesty I didnt find the graphic emulation that bad with the exception of one or two issues but I dont like the sound quality, that doesnt sound too good through the 3DS hardware. I still play some of these titles on my old SP and they look and play fine on the 3DS but the sound quality bugs me a bit.
