Really enjoyed this although it definitely needs online multiplayer. Local is great and download play means you can easily get a full game up and running with five other players and just the one copy of the game but if this had online it would have been the "Splatoon" of the 3DS. Hopefully this is just Nintendo dipping their toe into a possible new IP and if they release a retail version with full online it would be a must buy.
@KirbyTheVampire Im not sure they will release a 3DS Successor now because of how the switch has been accepted as this portable system so quickly. My friend has probably only had his Switch hooked up to the TV once and the rest of the time he has used it like a handheld. Im not saying they are going to abandon the 3DS anytime soon just like the GBA was out for ages while the original DS was doing the rounds. But over time I think Nintendo will goto a single hybrid model and then we could see wii numbers. I really hope the 3DS is kicking around for a couple more years yet though.
if your worried about losing a few hours during the testfire god knows what your going to be like if they are to bring the Splatfests back. I lost whole weekends to those. im still enjoying the original Splatoon but im happy for the switch ownets that never got the chance to play the original, they are in for a treat.
As the 3DS starts to die down over the next few years, I imagine various slight upgrades to the switch specs would mean a range of different prices and generations available at the same time so casual people would pick up the original model for a fraction of its price while the more die hard fans will be picking up newer generations every couple of years so it could well overtake the Wiis lifetime figures but I don't think that would mean more unique owners just more owners with multiple switches over time.
I couldn't justify spending that cash when I had a wiiU at home because I don't see much Fresh games for me this year. If it was sub £250 then I would have picked one up and waited until the games I wanted started coming out. My friends who skipped the wiiU I recommended they get one and enjoy this year's releases but as I saw it by the time my must have games were coming out the price may have dropped and/or switch bundles would have started to come out. So I like the tech, it's advertised pretty well but still happy with the wiiU and the price is too high for an impulse buy. £250 was my sweet spot.
@Captain_Toad They probably didn't come to wiiU because they had physical releases on the Wii that played flawlessly on wiiU. Same kind of excuse for why wiiU didn't get a rerelease of Resident Evil Zero and REmake. But I've always been a fan a NEOGEO titles and I'm happy that they are getting a release on the Switch.
I still love booting up my old Wii version of Metal Slug Anthology and SNK arcade classics on my WiiU because I have the Tatsunoko vs Capcom fighting stick reminds me of the golden arcade age. Hopefully they manage to bring the whole NeoGeo catalogue to the VC.
I was tempted by unlimited orbs but thought better of it. Trying to earn the orbs is what keeps this game interesting, been playing since day one with only two five stars to my name but haven't had to spend a penny. If I used other methods for summoning heroes and levelling them up it would be dull as dishwater so I'm glad I didn't.
@Nintendoforlife The sensor bar on the Wii was basically a couple of lights that your wiimote used to know where the screen was. The Wii used Bluetooth and the tech inside the remote only. Some people even used tea lights as a sensor bar.
@youkoaoshi I really love your sentiment, I'm very attached to my 3DS for my on the go and love my wiiU for home console (plus I buy crossbuy eShop games) so I'm really happy at moment. But I REALLY hope it sells well because when I'm done with one or the other system I plan on picking up the Switch.
I was hyped for the NX, then as details about the switch came out and the lack of must have games for me, I'm just left as meh. I hope it does sell well and gets a decent audience because I still plan on picking one up later down the line. If I didn't have a wiiU it would have been a different story and for anyone who skipped the wiiU should definitely pick up the Switch. But as for me it will be more of a Christmas purchase rather than a launch.
Thanks to this game I've gone back to playing my other Fire Emblem games. I think it works well in short bursts once or twice a day. Nothing too taxing, just to kill 5 to 10 mins.
i loved final fantasy tactics on the GBA. Played it to death and Mercenaries Saga 2 & 3 are a great substitute and the price is at a very good price point. While they keep making these titles I will keep buying them.
The wiiU browser still works very well and performs better than most browsers when it comes to day to day use. The thing I like most is that I can browse other webpages while I'm streaming video to the TV because I buy a lot of digital content that I like to share between devices, Google movies stream through YouTube and I can IMDB the film on my wiiU pad at the same time.
I actually remember how much use my 3DS browser got in those early days. I could connect to free WiFi and log onto my Facebook account and use the messenger function without spending a penny. Now the browser on the 3DS is very dated, but six years ago it was fantastic, fast, lite and functional.
@SanderEvers The 3DS didn't get the eShop until it got the browser either. It received them both on the same update and the 3DS had always planned to have a browser, it wasn't something they planned to put in later like you would like to imagine with the switch. If they say they are not planning to put a browser on the device that his because they don't plan to not add one later.
Always loved switching to the quick internet browser on the 3DS and the wiiU mid game so I didn't have to rely on any other devices. The same applied to the game notes on the 3DS. I play a lot of RPG's and its great to get info as you need it without having to resort to having a secondary device. The lack of browser and having to use a smart device for voice chat both seem like a step in the wrong direction. (Written using browser on wiiU)
No five star heroes at moment but they didn't seem essential to completing the story mode. Aiming for solid three star heroes seems to be the way to go. The starting four characters cover the main triangles and don't cost too much to make them 3 stars so it is great for people who don't want to spend a penny. But I can see why people would want to play there favourite character and also see profit for Nintendo in it.
Almost finished chapter 9 using starting four characters. Don't have any five star yet and only a couple of four stars which I use on arena, special maps and training maps. But from my experience it looks entirely possible to finish the main storyline without spending a penny and using anything other than the original four.
@Spoony_Tech Also I think you can get enough bonus stuff with your My Nintendo points. We have a reason to spend our Platinum points now. The exchange rate seems good.
Loving the game so far. It does a good job of feeling like "Fire Emblem Lite" and I can see that although not everyone may spend any or much money on the actual game, I can see it generating a new audience onto the great range of retail games.
If anyone wants to friend request me in game my ID is 0232317370. Think im going to lose a lot of time on this game, pity it drains my battery pretty quickly.
@Donderpants The niche games like Pikmen are the reason I think they will support it for a couple more years yet. Games will be cheaper to make for the 3DS compared to the Switch and they could try to see how big the potential audience could be and give an old niche IP and ew IPs a bit of attention without spending too much before investing in a switch deluxe version / sequel. I can't see many more main series IPs coming to the 3DS but they are already on the 3DS like MK7 etc.
I do believe that another dedicated handheld may be released in the next year or two, but not one to replace the 3DS. After the success of the mini Nes I wouldn't be surprised if they release an all in one GBC with a number of classic games built in and it probably sell even better than the Mini Nes. But as far as replacing the 3DS, I think they will gradually try and move more people over to the New3DS instead of replacing the system all together and this may give us a couple more years until a true successor comes about.
I really hope it sells well, I know I'm holding off at the moment but intend to buy one around the end of the year. But at least if it gets a decent consumer base then there will be no reason for third parties to abandon it or just give it half-assed ports.
I wanted to like it but I couldn't get into it, I just wasn't enjoying it. I plan on giving it another go sometime as it looked good but it just felt about meh to me when I tried it. Looking forward to Feb 2nd though for a bit of Fire Emblem mobile.
I thought apple would be happy with Brexit as it was the EU which ordered them to pay back the 11billion back to Ireland in unpaid taxes because they had been using Ireland as a financial loophole to avoid paying hardly any tax to the UK and other EU countries. I'm sure they could shoulder this £2 increase themselves with all the money they kept from putting back into the UK over the years.
Even when new shiny consoles come out there has been one or two gems that I continued to play long afterwards, ironically the Dreamcast which was concidered a failure is one of them and it looks like the wiiU will continue along side it..
Re-evaluating isn't the exact same as canned, they probably have finished development or near to and just want to see how the switch sells to see whether it is worth the time and money submitting it for the wiiU eShop. If sales are slower than expected and it looks like wiiU owners are not upgrading immediately then it may still be worth the effort however if enough wiiU owners make the jump then there will be even less demand on the eShop. It may be better to cut their losses. Such a shame but it's a realistic possibility.
@TheLZdragon Maybe if we haven't had crossbuy promotions between wiiU and 3DS then we wouldnt have expected it with the switch. Best thing about crossbuy between wiiU and 3DS was that ALL 3DS's that were linked to the wiiU also got the free game or dscount depending on what the offer was.
@Dpishere If you want to play them on the go right now, you can purchase them on the Android store not sure about the apple store, but for about £10 you could purchase all 3 and play them wherever you are. I imagine because the hardware is Tegra based, as is my android box and tablet that these ports will be closer to those on the store rather than the wiiU versions.
@ottospooky This is true, I've enjoyed them but don't think I will buy them again but there are still potential customers on the switch that either haven't had a platform they could buy it on or it hasn't been on their radar before.
@PanurgeJr But if you purchase all three of these games on Google play you can download them on your tablet, your phone and android box without having to pay again and when you upgrade any of these devices you can repurchase for free.
Don't fancy buying these three again unless there is a really good crossbuy discount. All three are good indie games but can't see them being vastly different on Switch.
Just like MK8, the switch will receive a Deluxe version of Smash Bros. with all current DLC thrown in, but I suspect they will continue to supply the wiiU and 3DS with SLC alongside the Switch version because there is still money in that for them and also the ability to sell more Amiibos. I don't see any reason to stop producing DLC for all three systems if the main game remains the same. I'm sure the switch version will have more features, but only in the same way that 3DS/2DS < New3DS < wiiU. Capcom has a decent library of classic games but really can't afford the risk, EA and Activision on the other hand can.
