Why can't they just use the same save system as Xbox and PS4? There's no problem with saving on online shooters on those systems. What is it with Nintendo, they do make some bizarre decisions.
Nintendo just have no idea what represents a fair price. The development costs for DKCTF and Hyrule Warriors must be minimal. Perhaps they didn't make a profit from the original versions given the low Wii U audience and so are trying to recoup from poor Switch owners.
I love Nintendo games but glad I switched to Xbox after the Wii U failure, still love my Wii U though. A remaster/re-release on PS4/Xbox would not be £50 and they know how to do proper discounts not like Nintendo who have no clue what constitutes a bargain.
Exiting an online match mid-game isn't always due to being a sore loser. Online matches can be lagging so badly that frankly they can be unplayable and simply not worth carrying on. And lagging isn't just caused by your own WiFi connection, you can have great internet but still get laggy games.
I play loads of CoD on Wii U and sometimes the lag is so bad it's just not worth carrying on. I don't mind losing but if the game is too laggy it's just not worth playing so I might quit and find a better lobby. In my opinion you should not be banned for this.
Although I always find Splatoon connections to be more stable on Wii U than CoD.
If people are daft enough to pay this price, then people will charge it, this is simple market forces. Scalping will stop if people stop paying ridiculously high prices for things, I blame the buyers not the sellers.
I prefer to go without rather than pay way over the odds, for anything.
This is a better explanation than why the Digital version of Zelda BOTW costs £60 on both Wii U and Switch. Nintendo has not provided any explanation for this, but presumably this is to stop Switch owners with a Wii U from purchasing a cheaper Wii U version, so as to encourage Switch sales.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE My Wii U version from Amazon was supposed to arrive today. I phoned their Customer Service yesterday but they couldn't tell me anything, couldn't even say if they had it in stock. I've now had an email saying that it's due to arrive 7th March. But wouldn't be surprised if it slips or they don't deliver at all.
I'm a bit concerned because it's been showing as unavailable on their website for ages now. I really hope they deliver as I got it for £32 using a voucher code. Everywhere else is £45+, and if I wait too long to order elsewhere it will be out of stock.
Unfortunately it looks like I won't be playing the Wii U version tomorrow despite having it pre-ordered since January.
My order status says Awaiting Dispatch but Arriving Tomorrow. Phoned Amazon and they cannot confirm if it will be dispatched and just tell me what the order status says and that the UK website shows it as unavailable. They cannot tell me anything useful and I'm now doubtful that they will be able to fulfil my order. Amazon Customer Service about as useful as a chocolate teapot.
Really annoying as it was it £32 using a discount code. It's around £50 everywhere else and if I wait too long to order from somewhere else I fear it will sell out.
So you can buy games from any region's eshop at the price in that region. Meaning that in theory you could purchase games at lower prices if they cost less in a particular region and the weak value of the pound doesn't offset it.
Given that Nintendo are able to sell BOTW to 2 markets, Switch and Wii U. It wouldn't hurt them to offer the digital Wii U version at a lower price.
They make Wii U owners wait years for a game so that it can be a Switch launch title and remove Gamepad functions. Then they have the audacity to charge £60 for the digital version, the most they've ever charged for a download!
As a reward to loyal and patient Wii U owners, this is a disgrace. It's really soured my view of Nintendo. I wish the gaming press would question Nintendo about this, how on earth do they justify it?
I'm sure it won't be missed. But hope it's not a sign of things to come and they leave the servers running for other more popular games. If the Switch is successful, then how long will Nintendo leave their multiplayer games running!
Not that I'm buying a Switch but if I were, I would find it very easy to ignore 1-2-Switch and frankly Nintendo's attempt to sell it as a retail release at that price is laughable. I can't believe that Nintendolife don't have stronger opinions on it but are simply avoiding being critical of Nintendo.
And including a demo a in a list of launch games smacks of desperation.
I'll consider buying it but why would anyone pay for the dlc in advance unless it's at a discounted price? Much better to wait until the dlc is released than give them the money months in advance.
I've got the Wii U game on pre-order but that's because I think it will have a low print run and could become difficult to get hold of. DLC will always be available.
If the Wii U port isn't even starting until the PC version is complete then there's still time for the Wii U version to be canned. The longer it takes to complete the PC version the greater chance of Wii U being canned. Be great if it comes to Wii U though.
@thesilverbrick I've got years left for my Wii U. Loads of games to finish and loads still unplayed. Not to mention the evergreen titles like MK8, Smash, CoD, Fifa etc. And of course the Wii U is so small it takes up barely any space.
@eeyore Why are you surprised Nintendo haven't closed the Wii U eshop for new releases? Doing that might convince some developers to move their games to Switch but it would also alienate some Wii U owners.
There is no harm in allowing Wii U owners new games. They may be future Switch owners so Nintendo would be wise not to make Wii U owners unhappy. If they closed the eshop or online functions they will certainly lose me as a customer.
@JTMnM Unless you intend to sell your Wii U I don't see why you wouldn't buy more games. It isn't a dead console, it will continue to work just fine. You don't have to stop using it, that's your choice.
I know that there will be very few games released now but I find it odd how most people talk about Wii U in the past tense. As if you must stop using it if you buy another console.
I fully intend to get many more years great gaming from mine. Despite its commercial failure it's the best console I've had to date.
I don't think Nintendo are doing a very good job of convincing me to upgrade to Switch. I don't want a Zelda game that I can get cheaper on Wii U, and a so called sequel that looks barely different to the original, I.e Splatoon 1.5.
Then there's several games just being re-released; MK8, Minecraft, Minecraft Story Mode, Lego City. Plus ancient rehashes SF2 and Bomberman.
Paid for online with comms via mobile phone app, expensive games and peripherals. So far announced, limited 3rd party support.
@gortsi I've had a pre-order update from Base.com telling me that Darksiders Warmastered Edition is now due for release on 30th June 17. Price is £12.85.
If I recall the XBox One didn't exactly fly off the shelves in its first year and yet it got all the multiplatform 3rd party support consistently. Wii U never benefitted from the same level of support.
Clearly the Switch is likely to suffer the same or worse fate regarding 3rd party support. If it does then it seems likely to be a great but low selling console just like Wii U. When you add in all the other things that Nintendo are doing wrong with Switch, its chances of success seem to be low.
I love my Wii U and will just stick with it, not even considering buying a Switch at this point. Frankly, Nintendo have made it a very easy decision for me.
This has probably already been mentioned but the problem isn't just the ridiculously limited access to just a single free retro game each month. It's also the fact that with little 3rd party support just how many Switch games will be playable online?
Looking at Wii U, the answer is not very many. So compared to other platforms you will be very limited with the games that can be played online.
Anyway, who pays for the online servers is it Nintendo or the game publisher? On Wii U I believe it's the publisher, so Call of duty servers are paid/maintained by Activision. NBA 2k servers were switched off very early, presumably by the publisher, not Nintendo? Does anyone know the answer to this? Even the Wii versions of CoD Black Ops and MW3 are still playable online because Activision have kept them running.
And why would I pay to play MK8 Deluxe and Splatoon online on Switch when I can play virtually the same on Wii U for free?
And why on earth should you have to use your mobile phone to communicate during online games? So you have to charge your mobile even more and tie it up whilst playing online. This is just stupid.
And Nintendo better not think about switching off the online for any of their Wii U games anytime soon or I'll never buy one of their products again.
Given that MK8 sold 8 million copies on Wii U, Nintendo must have made good money from MK8 sales. Development costs for MK8 on Switch must be minimal, if Nintendo had any real idea how to shift consoles they would do a Switch pack with MK8 pre-installed for say an extra£20/20 Euro/20$ and see how that sells. Instead they expect you to pay £35 for Tech Demo in 1-2Switch and £60 for Zelda. Bonkers. No surprise why I won't be buying a Switch.
Even my die hard Nintendo loving mate who intended to buy one on release, now won't because the only launch game he's interested in is Zelda which he can buy £20 cheaper for his Wii U.
He is stunned by the price of the games and the peripherals.
If people keep buying the same VC titles again on subsequent Nintendo systems then Nintendo will happily take your money. You know that you can just keep your 3DS, Wii or Wii U if you buy a Switch and simply play your VC titles whenever you want without re-purchasing.
I won't be buying a Switch anyway so not an issue for me. Very happy playing all my great Wii U games including free online play.
@AlternateButtons Maybe I'm wrong, I haven't played it but from the footage I've seen so far it looks very similar to the original which is as you expect from a sequel. But it doesn't seems to be that different for me to pay £300+ to play it online, new characters, maps, weapons etc. You may feel differently and thats fine.
So what's your opinion on MK8 Deluxe then, do you consider that to be different enough to buy a second time and pay to play online or would you stick with the Wii U version.
Maybe you have more access to Splatoon 2 than I have, instead of just saying I'm wrong perhaps you could explain why you think I'm wrong? And maybe you could just disagree and provide logical reasons why you disagree instead of just being aggressive/defensive and just saying I'm wrong. We are all entitled to our own opinions and I think I explained mine well.
@AlternateButtons How about u don't accuse me of not doing my research. Been reading up on the Switch all day. I think I make a lot of valid points which many people will agree with. I love Nintendo and my Wii U but frankly so far Switch fails to impress.
I will say that Splatoon 2 may change more before release but looks very similar to original. As for MK8 it is virtually identical and all media outlets agree.
There isn't really anything to draw in current Wii U owners at release. Splatoon 2 and MK8 look barely any different to the Wii U versions and yet they expect us to pay for a new console plus the games plus pay for the online, surely that will cost £350+. I'm not paying that sort of money to effectively play the same games I can still play online for free. Same applies to other remasters.
And 3rd party support at launch seems worse than Wii U. Ubisoft's announced games are all games already available on other systems. EA pledged more than 1 game on Wii U at launch. Does Activision have more than Skylanders planned? Where are the major 3rd party franchises that are available on PS4/Xbone?
And have you seen the price of extra peripherals? Wow.
I'm surprised how low PC software sales are and yet all publishers are more than happy to release multiformat games on PC until the views come home. I realise that there are no platform license costs attached, but even so.
I recently finished the 1st game which I downloaded when it was on sale. I thought it was quite a good game actually. Similar to thhe Batman games but not as good. I enjoyed it though. Not that I'm inclined to play it again anytime soon but if needed I should be able to re-download.
@scamander Every fan base will not be covered. I only have a Wii U, I'm not planning on buying a PC or another console anytime soon. So I have no way of playing this game now.
It will be interesting to see how many Wii U owners will go on to buy a Switch, especially soon after launch. I absolutely love my Wii U but I wouldn't risk buying a Switch having experienced what's happened with 3rd parties, indies and even Nintendo themselves abandoning Wii U so quickly.
I understand the economics involved, but I wouldn't be an early adopter again. I wish Nintendo great success with Switch but I won't be gambling on them again.
When I buy another console, I will take the safe bet and go with Sony or Microsoft next time.
Releasing on Wii U targets 13m Wii U owners. If it gets released on Switch early after the Switch is released, then there will be far less than 13m Switch owners to buy it, even if Switch sells well.
I wish they would just tell the truth. There's been no mention of 'technical issues' but now Switch release is confirmed they make up an excuse.
If other 3d platformers can run on Wii U and we can have Mario Galaxy on Wii, to say that Yooka-Laylee has technical issues running on Wii U sounds unbelievable.
Just glad I didn't give them any money as I don't have or plan to get any of the other systems.
Shame as I would have bought it.
All we need now is for Nintendo to can the Wii U version of Zelda BotW and then my faith in Nintendo systems will be gone forever.
Again, so many talking about the Wii U in the past tense as if all of a sudden you can't play games on it just because there are hardly any new games left to release.
I play on mine almost every day and still have a massive backlog of games that I haven't got round to playing or haven't finished. Not to mention games like FIFA, Need For Speed, MK8, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Call of Duty, Tekken and more that are infinitely replayable in multiplayer.
No one is forcing you to stop using it just because new games have dried up. Continue to enjoy the many great games already available and get some of those that you don't have yet. Just pray that your Wii U or Gamepad doesn't break as it doesn't seem like a replacement will ever be cheap!
So many of you talking about Wii U in the past tense. I play mine loads and will continue to do so. No more new games but hey, I'll never have time to finish all the games I already have. Some like MK8, Call of Duty, Smash, FIFA, Tekken, Need for Speed etc are infinitely replayable.
You don't have to stop using it just because a newer console is released.
I'm happy to carry on playing while the wife watches some rubbish on TV and as others have said, Off TV play enables me to play so much more.
To date, best and most used console I've had and I have no desire to buy another console yet.
I love my Wii U but having been burnt by lack of 3rd party support and the Wii U suffering an early death due to poor sales I won't be jumping into Switch early on. And I'm not bothered about gaming on the go, luv off tv play though.
I just can't see people buying this in addition to their PS4/Xbox as it doesn't look any/much better than Wii U, so can't see anyone beyond Nintendo fans buying it. So how quickly will 3rd parties jump ship if sales are low in the 1st year?
Just hope they don't switch Wii U online off anytime soon.
Some new games might help too, rather than ones that can already be played on Wii U or other systems.
It does look like a good bit of kit though so good luck Nintendo.
@MysteryAozz I have no issue with Nintendo releasing Zelda on NX but they don't need to delay the Wii U version to do so. This is no different to what Ubosoft dId with Rayman.
Strange how Ubisoft had so much criticism for delaying Rayman Legends to release it as multi platform. When Nintendo do it with Zelda for Wii U so they can release alongside NX, hardly anyone complains.
Will be interesting to see if Nintendo point this out when they advertise the price drop on eShop this week. Haven't got the game but I understand you can still get online matches at times. Anyone buying it from eShop after the price drop will be annoyed if Nintendo don't advertise the server shutdown.
Was thinking of buying at £14.99 from my local Game, won't bother now.
Well it's definitely coming to eShop on 7th June in Europe. If you do a search on eShop by entering 'Wii U', it will list upcoming games including this. Terraria is down for 9th June.
I search like this regularly to check for upcoming eShop releases.
I'm not convinced that the copies in CEX in the UK are used anyway. I have never seen that many copies of any Wii U game in any CEX store and why aren't there loads in Game stores too? More likely they are new copies that CEX managed to source on the cheap because the game and Wii U is a flop in the UK.
If the disc version gets released in the UK, good luck buying it in stores, it might be in Game if you are lucky but nowhere else. Wii U at retail stores is all but dead in the UK. Pretty much online only.
Wii U at stores in the UK has been abysmal from day 1.

Nintendo just have no idea what represents a fair price. The development costs for DKCTF and Hyrule Warriors must be minimal. Perhaps they didn't make a profit from the original versions given the low Wii U audience and so are trying to recoup from poor Switch owners.

Re: Splatoon 2 Has A Nasty Surprise In Store For Rage Quitters
Exiting an online match mid-game isn't always due to being a sore loser. Online matches can be lagging so badly that frankly they can be unplayable and simply not worth carrying on. And lagging isn't just caused by your own WiFi connection, you can have great internet but still get laggy games.
I play loads of CoD on Wii U and sometimes the lag is so bad it's just not worth carrying on. I don't mind losing but if the game is too laggy it's just not worth playing so I might quit and find a better lobby. In my opinion you should not be banned for this.

I'm surprised how low PC software sales are and yet all publishers are more than happy to release multiformat games on PC until the views come home. I realise that there are no platform license costs attached, but even so.
Re: Activision's Amazing Spider-Man Games Make A Sharp Exit From The Wii U eShop
I recently finished the 1st game which I downloaded when it was on sale. I thought it was quite a good game actually. Similar to thhe Batman games but not as good. I enjoyed it though. Not that I'm inclined to play it again anytime soon but if needed I should be able to re-download.
Re: Yooka-Laylee's Wii U Cancellation is Only Due to Technical Challenges, Not the System's Woes
@scamander Every fan base will not be covered. I only have a Wii U, I'm not planning on buying a PC or another console anytime soon. So I have no way of playing this game now.
Re: Yooka-Laylee Rattles Away From Wii U Release
It will be interesting to see how many Wii U owners will go on to buy a Switch, especially soon after launch. I absolutely love my Wii U but I wouldn't risk buying a Switch having experienced what's happened with 3rd parties, indies and even Nintendo themselves abandoning Wii U so quickly.
I understand the economics involved, but I wouldn't be an early adopter again. I wish Nintendo great success with Switch but I won't be gambling on them again.
When I buy another console, I will take the safe bet and go with Sony or Microsoft next time.
Re: Yooka-Laylee Rattles Away From Wii U Release
Releasing on Wii U targets 13m Wii U owners. If it gets released on Switch early after the Switch is released, then there will be far less than 13m Switch owners to buy it, even if Switch sells well.
Re: Yooka-Laylee Rattles Away From Wii U Release
Shame as I really love my Wii U.
Re: Guide: The Top Nintendo Black Friday 2016 Deals in the UK
Wii U deals are so terrible that NL post deals about 4k TVs when Wii U can't even run games in 4k. Smacks of desperation.
Re: European Wii U and 3DS eShop Cyber Deals Now Confirmed
Big Deal! Utter rubbish
Re: Poll: The Wii U is Four Years Old, But What Is Its Legacy?
Re: Looks Like Nintendo Has A Sense Of Humour About The Wii U's Failure
So many of you talking about Wii U in the past tense. I play mine loads and will continue to do so. No more new games but hey, I'll never have time to finish all the games I already have. Some like MK8, Call of Duty, Smash, FIFA, Tekken, Need for Speed etc are infinitely replayable.
You don't have to stop using it just because a newer console is released.
I'm happy to carry on playing while the wife watches some rubbish on TV and as others have said, Off TV play enables me to play so much more.
To date, best and most used console I've had and I have no desire to buy another console yet.
Re: Gallery: Let's Take a Look at the Nintendo Switch
Re: Ubisoft Hails Nintendo As "One Of The Best Partners In The World"
@MysteryAozz I have no issue with Nintendo releasing Zelda on NX but they don't need to delay the Wii U version to do so. This is no different to what Ubosoft dId with Rayman.
Re: Ubisoft Hails Nintendo As "One Of The Best Partners In The World"
Strange how Ubisoft had so much criticism for delaying Rayman Legends to release it as multi platform. When Nintendo do it with Zelda for Wii U so they can release alongside NX, hardly anyone complains.
Re: Devil's Third Online Servers To Close At The End Of The Year
Will be interesting to see if Nintendo point this out when they advertise the price drop on eShop this week. Haven't got the game but I understand you can still get online matches at times. Anyone buying it from eShop after the price drop will be annoyed if Nintendo don't advertise the server shutdown.
Was thinking of buying at £14.99 from my local Game, won't bother now.
Re: The Book Of Unwritten Tales 2 Will Be Opening On Wii U Next Week
Well it's definitely coming to eShop on 7th June in Europe. If you do a search on eShop by entering 'Wii U', it will list upcoming games including this. Terraria is down for 9th June.
I search like this regularly to check for upcoming eShop releases.
Re: Random: Store Shelves Appear To Be Filling With Pre-Owned Copies Of Star Fox Zero
Re: Minecraft: Wii U Edition is Getting a Retail Release Soon
If the disc version gets released in the UK, good luck buying it in stores, it might be in Game if you are lucky but nowhere else. Wii U at retail stores is all but dead in the UK. Pretty much online only.
Wii U at stores in the UK has been abysmal from day 1.
