Nintendo has revealed that the Wii Karaoke U service is to end at the close of March in Europe.
After 23:59 BST on 31st March, the service will go offline and any ticket purchased for use with the software will cease to work. From 1st March the 30-day ticket will no longer be available, and on 31st March itself all other tickets will be removed from sale. Needless to say, if you've got any tickets remaining then you'll want to redeem them before March 31st.
It has also been confirmed that the Wii Karaoke U Miiverse communities will also be shuttered at the same time.
Will you miss this particular piece of software? Let us know by posting a comment below to the tune of "Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears.

I guess this is really the swansong for the Wii U
Never got this service in the states. I always wondered what the experience was like. How well it worked, songs available. Oh well, if this news is devastating to anyone please, hold on, be strong. You will pull through. 😝
Good riddance!
Huh ?!
Wii Karaoke U ?!
I've never actually opened the app... Perhaps I will now.
Did anyone actually buy passes for Wiii Karoke U?
No, well nothing of value was lost there then.

'to the tune of "Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears.'
Are you not listenening, don't have the time?
Give me a sign
Show me you know how to rhyme
I know this isn't a massive loss, but it's only the beginning of the Wii U's services shutting down too soon. Seeing as the Switch doesn't have Miiverse, I'm guessing it will be going entirely, soon.
@Damo You missed a trick by not going 'Hit Mii baby one more time'.
Anyway!
Oh, Wii U, Wii U
Your sales weren't great you know
Buy, but they never did
Oh, Wii U, Wii U
You had some great games to play
Attach rate was a high point
E3 shows passed you quickly
Tell me, Wii U,
'Cause I need to know now, oh, because...
The wait for Switch is killing me (and I)
I must confess, I still believe (still believe)
I'll leave you plugged in to play some games
Not sold to WeBuy
Play Wii U maybe, one more time
@EllenJMiller I'm having that
Never used it, won't miss it. Sorry for any fans of the service, but these decisions are usually only made when it's hardly being used any more.
@Anti-Matter It was launched when the Wii U was launched. It never really found a foothold in Europe though. Karaoke sessions are still very much an East Asian thing.
I was really interested in the service at first but then quickly found that it compared poorly against commercial karaoke services.
So it begins... what do you guys think, will they do this to Splatoon and Mario maker in the near future?
What a load of
@EllenJMiller
Hahaha...
Nice lyrics swap. XD
I'm sure it won't be missed. But hope it's not a sign of things to come and they leave the servers running for other more popular games. If the Switch is successful, then how long will Nintendo leave their multiplayer games running!
This existed?!
i should use my free tickets from my nintendo soon
@SLIGEACH_EIRE What could you possibly have against this service? It was top-notch. Certainly more comprehensive than any standalone Karaoke game I've ever seen or used before.
I think I got a free pass at one point, but never liked any of the songs they had, so didn't use it.
Sounds like a good enough time to use that 1 hour ticket reward on MyNintendo, since there's nothing else....
.....and nobody cared.
Actually, it is pretty sad to see things disappearing from the Wii U like this, seeing as it's lost BBC iPlayer as well. End of a (short) era I suppose Hopefully we're not all lamenting the Switch like this in 4 years time.
Knowing Wii knowing U
@Switch81tch The only thing I disagree on is closing the eshop. Just because the Wii's vc and wiiware are still open.
never heard of it
Hah, that tagline! XD
@LiberatedAnimal Exactly. It will probably only concern this specific service. Even the old DSi is still supported with online features and eShop.
I'm kind of sad about this, I've used it quite a few times, and even bought the Wii U microphone. It was good for busting out at parties after a few drinks. The gamepad is perfect for lining up songs in karaoke, and passing round between friends, it's exactly like going to a real venue like big echo in Japan.
Well I don't think this will be missed,it's terrible just like 1.2switch and Amiibo festival
@Fandabidozi Anyone who uses a profile pic of Little Jimmy Krankie and fandabidozi as a user name is awesome in my book.
Wonder if Joysound will make an app for Switch? The console seems perfect for Karaoke.
Oh crap, please tell me the Japanese version isn't going away. I can't imagine the rest of the world will miss it, but here in Karaoke Island it's almost better than real karaoke what with not having to change out of pajamas and the drinks being WAY cheaper.
