Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Mario & Luigi: Brothership?

Noxide

I'd give it a 6.5
This is mostly for a few core reasons. The feel of the game, especially Mario games means a lot for me. Everyone has complained about the odd button mapping choices for Luigi and while that is a grave sin there are still other things that bug me. I don't like the delay Mario and Luigi have after using their hammer, doesn't feel fun to use it in the overworld. I would also prefer using X and Y for hammer attacks and counters in the battle-mode to better mimic the button mapping.
As for the story, not finished yet so I can't say much however I do feel that the dialogue isn't as enjoyable as the previous games. A lot of the dialogue isn't as entertaining and redundant, the genius mechanic is the worst. When she's supposed to say something smart but instead says something so obvious and is not played off as a joke it kind of annoys me. Then there are the side quests that don't do much beyond giving you busy work for a few items.
I also have issues with the plug characters, there's not enough to differentiate them from each island. I guess because there are lots of villages and cities so they need to reuse them a lot but it still bothers me.

Still like the game but it's not the best.

@Maubari People can post what they want so long as it's within the rules of the site and you can just sit there and accept it. It don't matter who's got more popular or if you think the post spreads hate, that's something I hope you will understand one day because it will make you a better person.

Indeed, this chipping away at past works and antagonizing the fanbase with "updated narratives" are problems that will always have to be fought back by passionate fans. Censorship is all about control at the end of the day. Control of the narrative, control of morality, control of thought. Few powers have ever resisted the temptations of censorship when they see how it can benefit them, never give them an inch and always fight for your freedoms no matter how trivial.

Re: Electronic Arts Lays Off 5% Of Its Workforce

Noxide

I think this will in the long run be a good decision for the gaming industry, so long as they are more reasonable in their "AAA" development ventures... hear me out!
I was thinking about this when Sony and Microsoft let go of a huge chunk of their workforce. The biggest reason why Sony is barely making any profit despite their games selling millions and their PlayStation Plus basically being free money is that their budgets have ballooned to a ridiculous degree. This is largely in part to having teams of several hundreds per studio working for on average 7 years for a single game. The investment for said game and maintenance to keep the studio personal paid and happy is too much, and that's not even considering how the top brass are being paid incredibly high, (it's a relatively minor factor but it illustrates the point that the money isn't being managed well).

The best scenario now would be for the truly passionate and ambitious workers who were let go to start their own smaller teams and try to make their own projects. Build a studio from the ground up that is lean, flexible, able to crunch if necessary and most importantly, have an owning interest in the projects success. Build studios where the talent gets a cut from their products net income. Chances are most workers are not willing to take such a risk but those that do will have a better hand at shaping the industry going forward.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Seeking More Studios To Work On Its IP

@PikaPhantom
Interesting observation. I found their steamworld games do well on Nintendo consoles and their history together goes back over a decade back before "Image & Form" had integrated into Thunderful. The company seems ambitious so if the rumors are true then this is a good guess.

Re: Random: Nintendo Gives Princess Peach Some Facial Tweaks In 'Showtime!' Key Art

@jowe_gv
The term "Girl Boss" can mean a lot of different things for people but for me it comes down to the way they act so smug, snarky and how the writers make sure the audience knows she "won" every single conversation. In the movie it was at it's worst when Peach and Mario were walking out to go see the Kongs and she goes "They're all counting on us.. No pressure!". Like why? We know she cares deeply about the toads, that's the big central pillar of her character and what the movie is hanging multiple emotional moments on later, so why make her so smarmy about this? Why not have her just say something sincerely? Mario and Luigi are sincere from the beginning to end and they come across better in the film as a result. You don't even have to change any of Peaches actions but instead change her dialogue to be sincere, sweet and a tad cheeky and Peach becomes more recognizable.
Sorry for that rant but those were the issues in the Mario movie for why people thought Peach was out of character and acting like a "girl boss", so to use that facial expression tied to that portrayal of her in the film has people worried for the future.

Re: Random: Nintendo Gives Princess Peach Some Facial Tweaks In 'Showtime!' Key Art

Noxide

@SykoMuffin Yeah, this facial change is because a select few people have a problem with Peach in general. They can't outright say it because it will really cause a storm but by making a subtle change like this they can slowly make changes that won't cause a massive backlash. Luckily the game is likely to remain how it was originally intended and if enough people speak up now about this in places where Nintendo can hear them then they will figure it's not worth the trouble to split up an audience over such a small detail in the future.

Re: Random: Amy Is No Longer The Damsel In Distress In Sonic Origins Plus Clip

Noxide

@ottoecamn Very much this.
Nobody has associated Amy with that role in a long time and when there are games that do have her needing to be rescued it's always along with the rest of the cast, (a different problem fans have but I'm not going to get into that now).
Also I don't care for how the trope "Damsel in Distress" is looked at so negatively these days. As time goes on I tend to appreciate these classic tropes more. There's a reason why they have stood the test of time and are reused in many stories, to claim it's outdated or offensive feels a tad immature.

Re: Prince Of Persia Is Back With Brand New Title, Out January 2024 On Switch

@graviton
My main issue with his look is the haircut, it looks too modern. Like I'm not a history buff, heck I don't even know the original prince of Persia character has hair that came from that time period but at least it looked like nobody from our time wore it. This new playable character just needs a more ancient, less modern look... Also the rap music was bad but that's all the complaints I have, the game itself looks promising.

@HeadPirate while we disagree on a few things I’m glad we share the same thoughts on the great leadership and decisions Iwata and the executives made for Nintendo, it is in my opinion the ideal scenario for a business and its influence on the economy.

Something I will point out though is Elon doesn’t really have 300 billion sitting in an account. Most of it is in assets that are doing something. Those collective assets are valued in the billions thus making Elon’s net worth one of if not the richest man on the planet.

Re: Random: Ex-Rare Dev Explains The Origin Of Donkey Kong Country's Name

Noxide

@Mauzuri Please understand that Kirby has a dedicated studio, (Hal Labs), that focus on Kirby games. DK doesn’t really have a dedicated team, neither does F-Zero or Starfox. Metroid looks to have a new studio dedicated to making 2D Metroid games with MercurySteam but who knows how long that will last. Typically devs don’t like working on the same games for so long, Kirby and Xeno being exceptions because the studios share ownership in the IP and can have an incentive to make those games their bread & butter.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Super Mario Bros. Movie, And They're All Over The Place

Noxide

I knew I wasn't going to like this version of Mario. The teasers clued me in on that real quick.

It's such a shame, Mario could have offered up something new and fresh for Cinema, instead they go with the "fish out of water" plot and drastically change up every character from how they are perceived in the games, (accept maybe Luigi and Bowser but the role of Luigi in the movie should have been for Peach).

Re: Seth Rogen On Voicing Donkey Kong In The Mario Movie: "It's Gonna Sound Like Me And That's It"

Noxide

Using Hollywood voice actors is the unfortunate price to pay when making a Hollywood movie. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of guild contract that required Nintendo to use people from Hollywood instead of their own talent.

I really hope Nintendo goes somewhere with that new animation studio they bought a short while ago. I want them to make their own projects without the influence of a decaying industry.

Re: Feature: Atelier Ryza 3's Producer On Crafting The End And Shifting Away From Fanservice

Noxide

The question is phrased very poorly.

"Having reviewed all of the Switch entries in the series over the past few years, we’ve noticed a shift from what you might call a more ‘fan-servicey’ style towards RPGs that feel like they are trying to appeal to a much wider audience. Has it been a conscious decision to redirect the style of the franchise in this way?"

I had to do a double read on that cause of how confusing the question was stated. It almost sounded like the interviewer was remarking on how the use of fan service has been used to appeal to a much wider audience. Also Junzo never actually says they're making a conscious decision to move away from fan service, that's what the interviewer thinks he said, (they put those words in brackets like this as he was answering).

Please re-title this article, it is misleading and will cause unnecessary turmoil.
