@mikegamer If they use any bit of the original source code then it's theft of intellectual property. I assume there has to be some as they would have to get past the NES10 chip and other anti-piracy protocols found inside of the ROM .
Seriously though, after all the piracy on the WII and DS Nintendo has been coming down hard on this stuff. It'll be available for a week before Nintendo's lawyers force them to remove it from the store.
Unethical, that's rich. As a developer I have a lot if respect for Dyack's skills but he's not the victim here. He killer Silcon Knights and every time he opens his mouth about the project fewer people want to support him. Eternal Darkness was great but I won't back this project.
@blackice85 That's cool. Raw digital will be nice. I guess if I get one I'll just hook it up my Triniton (it has a single HDMI port) so I can still play Duck Hunt and Gumshoe.
I wonder if it's too late in development to add RGB, or S-video? They probably convert the analog signal to digital right away meanings it's very unlikely.
I have a both the frontloader and toploader as well as a Famicom and these kind of things are always something to consider. I'm probably going to be purchasing a retron 5 (blasphemy, I know) within the next month so I probably won't buy this. My setup is just too small right now for my big SONY Triniton CRT as well as my HDTV so a Retron 5 will really be nice. Plus it now has the ability to play rom hacks through patching. CRT is the best way to go but if the picture looks good and compatibility is 100% it's pretty tempting. I currently use my frontloader most of the time since it gives me the best image but they are finicky even if you take care of them. I refurbished nearly a 100 frontloaders and I get sick of dealing with the pins being too tight or too loose.
If you like this kind of thing I encourage you to put in $13 or more. It really encourages them to do this again on the future. Plus you're getting $100 worth of games so it doesn't hurt to add a few Ezra bucks. I'm really happy with this bundle even though I had a few already. Rythym Thief and Citizens of Earth have really surprised me at how good they are.
@FierceRagnar exactly I paid $8 for 10 sets of gears. You can take a downright unusable controller and make it a 7/10 or 8/10 tightness. The reason you can't always make them perfect is because the bowl is so worn out.
@FierceRagnar The problem is that none of those are what the developers had in mid when they programmed their games. Kisch-bent has been selling the replacement gears for a while but the bowl and bottom of the stick have never been reproduced. As someone who grew up with them having the original stick with a few new pieces is the best.
@Farpun For convenience. If you already have a CRT and all the old hardware it doesn't make that much sense unless you want to save space. The save states are nice for difficult games though.
@SnackBox I don't think so. None of the other Gameboy Games on 3DS have had that feature yet. I believe it's because they are using a Gameboy emulator not a GBA emulator. You do however have the option to play with a white background or one that mimics the old green screen.
No physical rewards, that's too bad. I loved saving up for some Club Nintendo posters. Also we need to be able to link our accounts across consoles so that if our system breaks or is stolen we can re-download our games. That's one big reason that I won't buy digitally right now unless there won't be a physical release.
What LinkSword said. The controls are as tight as can be and you feel like a ninja after you get the hang of it. Castlevania is fun for a while but you can still die easily even if you're good. There are just too many cheap death with all the bones and Medusa head floating around. This is one of my favorite NES games.
That Wii U VC comparison is actually fairy accurate although most TVs will brighten it up a bit. I really doesn't make sense when you consider that they have the original ROMS. I've been debating for a while on what I want to do with my NES setup. I just can't find room for my WEGA anymore so I'm stuck using an HDTV. I thought about AV modding my toploader but now I'm not sure.
@Nico07 I think some SNES controllers could have had both brown or white but I may be thinking if the white NES Dpads. The brown is definitely original and the white actually looks like it goes to a 64 because of the two holes.
@Nico07 I think some SNES controllers could have had both brown or white but I may be thinking if the white NES Dpads. The brown is definitely original and the white actually looks like it goes to a 64 because of the two holes.
@RupeeClock They may not play DS games but since they were designed to play games they still hold up well. The fact that it has buttons, a large high quality screen and is a sturdy little machine makes it my favorite method. It still doesn't play all 64 games well but I use the quality buttons and comfort in your hands make it rally stand out. I use it mainly for SNES, NES, and Genesis games on the go and have never had an issue with those. Also, playing games on modern mobile devices kills the battery fast but I can play a SNES game son PSP for 7-8 on a standard battery. They are also relatively inexpensive. I picked up my PSP 3000 for $20 bucks last year but you can find a good one for less than $50.
Supposedly you can hack a Vita to the same and due to the newer tech it can run newer console emulator but I haven't tested it yet. Once Sony stops supporting it and doesn't update it anymore I'll pick one up to try.
@rjejr If I'm going to pay more for a game I want something physical not just in-game content. Besides, paying for in-game currency sounds a lot like Candy Crush and other iOS games. I think that kind of perk would be good as a free bonus for early adopters as it rewards the player but doesn't cost the company anything.
@JaxonH I agree, most Amiibo support is additional content and Nintendo has been great with their DLC, especially with Splatoon, but with the case of Splatoon Amiibo, the levels were there on day one and only accessible to those who have the Amiibos. Maybe I don't quite understand those levels becuase I can't play them, but I liked the Octo Valley levels and wish I could play the others.
Nintendo, you did this to yourself. I have no problem paying for a nice figurine especially if it is functional with my video games but I'm not paying $80 just get all the levels in Splatoon.
Amiibo, whether you like it or not have made it so that a lot of on-disc content is locked out. I don't mind having Amiibo that add skins like Mario kart or Wooly World but I'm not a fan of having to buy a figurine I play all of my game.
He was belittling his employees fans which isn't going to help his situation. If you work for a major company you can't just run your mouth and expect nothing to come from it. Nintendo keeps a very close eye on their PR. I feel bad that he lost such an amazing job but he probably broke the terms of employment by speaking out on a public forum.
I couldn't tell it was Splatoon themed until I saw the title. There's too many colors. They are neat none the less and that's cheaper than a lot of backlit DMGs.
@shani I've been that level 8 before who wrecked the other team. The teams are usually well matched (way better than CoD) and I completely agree that level doesn't equal skill but experience is a huge factor.
I haven't had many connection errors at all. The thing that bothers me is that there is no systematic matchmaking to keep high level player in one group and lower level players in another. I'm only level 12 so I get destroyed when I'm stuck with players who are all over level 20.
Seriously!? Nintendo exclusives are great but I'd like to be able to play my favorite third party titles on a Nintendo console too. They are isolating themselves from some great third party studios by making inferior hardware. People don't but Nintendo consoles to play this kind of games butthey are missing out on huge profits because of this. I don't mind the gimmicks but when they get in the way of raw power and graphics, it's annoying. Nintendo has proven that they can sell systems with some finish and less power and do fine, but I'd like to see them move away from that thinking. IMO it doesn't make sense to launch a system and not be able to at least match the specs of consoles from 2-3 years ago.
I love that they showed StarFox Fire Emblem and Xenoblade but none were a surprise. Zelda and Metroid are interesting concepts but they look more like mobile games and or Nintendo Land attractions. Since I play my 3DS on the go, I prefer games that designed to be single player experiences.

I guess I'll have to dig out an extra NES Four-Score and and find some Famicom-mini schematics so I can add NES controller ports.

That's awesome. I hope they make the controllers detachable and give them longer cords.
