@San_D Me too on Hollow Knight. My last attempt at a metroidvania and unfortunately I found it dull. Glad I'm not the only one! @SoManyHaveDied I tried the Invisigun demo on a whim and absolutely loved it. Good example of demos working to get you to try games you'd otherwise not go for. Bought the full version (and joined the Discord) - it's so underrated, and full of content.
I booted up my old Wii U recently. I say "booted up", actually more like "TRIED" to boot up. Man what a terrible console. Pro controller was out of charge, and it uses a different USB type to the massive, clunky tablet controller. HUGE delays when switching between menus. Hooking up the bloody sensor bar to go with the Wii Mote, the Nunchuck add on...all so clunky after using the Switch. I mean, I loved the console when it came out but in hindsight...what a misfire.
Another shout for Into The Breach, in my top 5 games of all time now I reckon. I've 100%-ed it recently but still go back to it. Had less luck with Enter The Gungeon which I absolutely SUCK at but I'm really tempted by Moonlighter especially as it's in a sale.
@hadrian This was on Wii U? Perhaps you mean NFS Most Wanted, which was pretty similar. As for Burnout Paradise, wish this wasn't open world. I agree with @eRaz0r - Burnout 2 was the best one I've played. Self-contained racing and a proper Crash mode. Open world leads to too much aimless driving around, which is fun for a while but I want the focus and accessibility of selectable tracks.
@BenAV I think if I hadn't played a tonne of Wii Sports bowling I'd have fared a lot better. My brain expects to grip and (crucially) let go of the trigger button when I pick it up/release the ball.
Played a tonne of this yesterday. Hit and Blow was a really pleasant surprise, and Toy Curling is very addictive. Couldn't get to grips with bowling - controls are different to the Wii Sports equivalent which threw me off. Loads I haven't tried yet. The whole package is terrific value.
@Benji80 I always have a go at the challenges but I don't tend to rank highly - I tend to be a couple of seconds off the top spot. Huge fan of the game though, and wondering what that final DLC spot is under the main campaign menu.
@FullMetalJumper Paradise looks near-identical to a game I had on Wii U, Need For Speed Most Wanted. While I enjoyed that game the open world format makes it a bit aimless - I just want to jump into a race. Mario Kart aside my favourite racer on Switch has been Horizon Chase Turbo. Super Pixel Racers has definitely piqued my interest though. I love how many different modes it has. Would love a demo.
@FullMetalJumper he literally mentioned that in the review. Mantis Burn and Gotcha Racing was the other one. I've got Mantis Burn but I found it a bit dull. I'm going to save my moolah for Burnout Paradise, even though I'd rather not pay big cash for a friggin open world racer. What can I say, I'm a sucker for Burnout.
Comment number 155 so no one will read. But i have to say it - this is a free update, with loads of cool new features and a FRIKKIN world maker. Yet all I see is "no amiibo support", "no new level themes", "it's not proper SMB2" whining. Jesus H Christ when will you people be happy.
Jesus Christ it's free. No-one has to pay for the extras and there are no ads. I never bother with mobile games but I'll also never understand why people complain about stuff they get for free.
Had to go cold turkey on this series long ago, it devours far too much time. Still, I miss the simple old data of CM2 and 99/00 with text only games and searching for "interested foreign based" players and destroying the Scottish league with my dominant Rangers team.
For some reason I expected to see bloody Ocarina of Time at #1, before realising it wasn't released on DS. Something new then! And actually no Zelda on there. Which is good because my only memory of DS Zelda was repeating that damned dungeon over and over again. And Star Fox Command was one of the angriest, most immediate marches to trade in a game that I can remember. Utter rubbish. Anyway, great list, and some good memories on here. For me Meteos was an underrated gem (forgive the pun).
@gamekill Yeah thought I was. What have I become? Totally agree, games, like movies, don't cause bad behavior. Still think it looks too real for me to enjoy the theme though.
What a horrible idea for a game. Stealing from regular houses and people seems a bit too "real", like it'll give yobbos in real life some creative ideas. Maybe I'm just getting old.
Very exciting. One of my favourite games on Switch. They've done some interviews recently on Facebook with Barry Leitch who did the awesome soundtrack.
No Into the Breach. No Wargroove. No Horizon Chase Turbo. Three of the best games I've played full stop, let alone on Switch. Still, just a bit of fun, and otherwise a good list!
At last my favorite game given the prevalence it deserves. Totally agree with the article. Love Death Race, the Giant Hand track, the X Cup, the music. What a game.
Got Horizon Chase over the festive period to play with my wife and we absolutely love it, smashing out all those gold trophies. Was a huge fan of Top Gear and Outrun. Definitely room for both on Switch - how about a port of Top Gear next?
