British indie studio Three Fields Entertainment has revealed that its upcoming arcade racer, Dangerous Driving 2, will be launching on Nintendo Switch in "Holiday 2020".
The game, which is unsurprisingly a sequel to last year's Dangerous Driving, is described as "the arcade racer for everyone", with a driving gameplay style that's said to reward those who want to test their reflexes at high speeds. It's all set within an open world, and players can choose how they want to race through events against AI opponents or for fun in 'freedrive' mode.
It also features split-screen multiplayer - so you can explore the game's world with a buddy if you prefer - and the braver racers amongst you can go ahead and compete with others online. Here's what Alex Ward, Founder and Creative Director of Three Fields Entertainment, had to say in a press release:
"Dangerous Driving 2 will truly be our best game yet - delivering new features our fans have been clamouring for such as Nintendo Switch support and split-screen, building on the innovations we as game makers are passionate about including interactive music and emergent game modes as well as addressing the areas we weren’t happy with in the last game."
We don't have any videos or screenshots of the new game just yet, but hopefully this launch trailer for the original game (on PS4) will give you an idea of what to expect:

Sold! 1st game was plenty of fun and this will be great on the switch! Can't wait to see more!
Oh HECK YES. Huge fan of the Burnout series and there isn't enough of this kind of thing on Switch.
Oh man, amazing news! I cannot wait to pick this one up if it runs well
I'm all-in, as long as they improve the UI with better use of fonts and overall design. The first game was in dire need of that.
Bit of a shame it going open world as Burnout was better before it did so but nevertheless I'll be picking this up day one
@carlos82 yeah I agree burnout paradise took me a while to get used to but once I got to know paradise city I found it amazing day one for me too!
I like a lot of what I saw but it would have been even better for if they included a city you could zoom around in, finding cool jumps, and the like — paradise city was pretty great for that. I like games that are a lot like the old midtown madness games. Miss those.
Should be good.
SOLD! With a capital S, O, L and D!!!
Asphalt 9 has set the bar SO DANG HIGH not sure if this will pass muster, but always happy to see a solid arcade racer be available on the Switch.
So, these are the former Criterion people? Good to know. It most certainly does have that original Burnout vibe, so I'm getting pretty stoked seeing this being announced. I've been waiting SO long for a real Burnout game or a Burnout-alike, and now one is finally arriving in the near future.
Burnout Paradise doesn't even compare. Burnout shouldn't be open world. It takes away most of the fun that the previous titles had in spades. For fans of the original games, the last good or great Burnout game was Burnout Revenge, and I would even welcome that old but still great game on the Switch, so EA, if you're listening...
@ThanosReXXX burnout revenge is my personal favourite but I think most people seem to prefer burnout 3 takedown I would settle for either on switch
@Gs69 Oh, that would be welcome too. In fact, I'd welcome any of the old Burnout games, all the way up to Burnout Revenge. I still play them every now and then.
@carlos82 well your in luck. a lot of ex burnout devs ended up making this game
Looks good but what does this bring that’s not already in Asphalt 9. Maybe full game without micro transactions which means less daily grinding. I guess will depend on the price.
They lost me at open world. They're basically making this Burnout Paradise, and that was the worst Burnout game by an order of magnitude. Open world ruins Burnout.
The original Dangerous Driving is really good on PS4, it's just lacking polish and the budget to bring it up to the level of the great Burnout games. That they are already abandoning that is depressing.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted is still a better racing game than we have on Switch .
I'm hopeful for this...and cautious. I can't do low frame rates in racing games...so I worry this will look good, but really only be playable on other platforms.
Looks really good, never heard of the first game.
@oh_no_melon Was 3 the first one you played, prior to paradise? If so, then you need to understand that those mechanics were all intentional, and once you're used to them from having played the first 2 games, you'd be well used to it, by the time you got to the third game in the series. That's also why I say that the series was never meant to be open world, because save for Paradise, all the games were track and mission based. And they were very good at what they did.
That the steering or feel of the cars wasn't very realistic didn't matter either, because they were arcade racers, not racing sims. All of it took skill, both the driving and the drifting, or making expert use of turbo boosts, but once it clicked, you could have an absolute blast with the original games.
Mind you, I'm not saying that I didn't like Burnout Paradise at all. In fact,
I own the special edition with all the extra DLC, but to me, it still never felt like a "real" Burnout game. Actually, looking back, it's the first game that took that particular approach that we saw later in the re-imagined Need for Speed games.
Looks great! Brings back memories of Burnout Takedown, one of my favourite racing games of all time.
It a huge racing game fan so MK8D is usually all I need but if the price is right, I may check this out.
So what they're saying is that it's Burnout Paradise with local-multiplayer?
oh hell yes count me in
Take my money...
S old
O
L
D
This should be good. The twin pack thing on PS4 was good fun.
I instantly got Burnout Paradise vibes from watching this.
Are you saying it's coming with a local multiplayer?
I must play it with my kid.
@oh_no_melon That sounds fair enough and going back to older games, once you're already used to newer, and in your opinion better and/or more preferable mechanics can admittedly be a bit of a harsh experience, sucking much of any remaining entertainment out of it.
And I'll agree that the games definitely had their faults, and not just the third game, but nobody's perfect, and neither is any game, so I just look at the overall picture most of the time.
Guess we'll have to agree to disagree on what Burnout is supposed to be, because I think the numbers speak in favor of it being a "normal" arcade racer, simply because of there having been more Burnout games that took that approach, but I don't mind you having your own opinion about that, so you're welcome to it.
It's just the way that I look at it, as a person who played and liked all the games.
That sucks, by the way, about the PS version of Takedown. On the Xbox and Xbox 360, you could just use the triggers or the left and right bumper buttons.
Big smile yessssssssss!!!!!!!
So an open world similar to Burnout Paradise? Sounds cool. I loved Burnout Paradise. Not as good as Revenge, but I loved Paradise. I’ll wait for some gameplay footage on this, and if it’s good I’ll consider purchasing it.
@bluedogrulez are you serious? Or joking? I have never tried asphalt 9.
@danrenfro2016: completely serious. Probably 300 hours in and still loving it. May replace Star Wars Episode I Racer as my fav arcade racer of all time.
It looks like a good game. it would be nice if they put out a demo first. I will probably get it either way.
Did you play the original? Excited for another racer on Switch?
No, but I have played Burnout 3 on PS2 and loved it a lot. If Dangerous Driving 2 plays somewhat similar to that, then I'm on board.
@bluedogrulez Big fan of A9 also, but an open world burnout game will beat it hands down. Too many issues with A9 lately, solid game though. I have over 360 hours into it and I'm just now contemplating hanging it up.
From the trailer I watched for Dangerous Driving, I am seriously looking forward to the sequel on the Switch. Maybe I'll still be going strong in A9 by the time it releases, but I'll want to check it out regardless, just as long as the price is right.
So this has proper online from day one? Still waiting for a decent online racer for Switch.
