Re: HAMSTER Accidentally Leaks Two Upcoming ACA Switch Releases

This post and the comments have been awesome to read on my tea break. All power to the Switch arcade and its community here. Wonderful reading all those stories that also capture my own experiences as an arcade mad child and home computer, console enthusiast. Great tag line: The "Switch: Arcade Perfection" (or at least moving in that direction with each new retro release. Please bring Sega, Capcom, Konami, ToaPlan, Cave, Taito and company along for the ride too). Thanks to all for sharing.

Re: Punch-Out!! Is Your Next Nintendo Arcade Archive, Releases Next Week

Lroy

Wonderful news! I'll be adding this to my healthy Switch arcade library for sure. Really hope the Arcade Archives series, Nintendo titles or otherwise, become weekly or more bi-weekly at least. So much gaming joy resides in the history of the arcade era. Multiple arcade releases to Switch a week is pure heaven for me. Can't think of another time I've enjoyed gaming so much as the advent of the Switch and these releases.

@ThanosReXXX The weekly arcade high-score challenges have been but one way I've met like-minded gamers for conversations about all manner of games. It is just one aspect of my interaction on this site and of my gaming hobby. We seem to have become embroiled in a larger discussion about gaming that I never intended nor do I have any strong opinion to express or share about it. If you're cool, I'm cool. It's now past midnight and I'm off to bed. Have a good one 👍

@ThanosReXXX I agree with a lot of what you say. High scores aren't 'my thing' or anything like that. Achievements have never been a concern for me as I'm almost exclusively a Nintendo system owner. I just meant it has been fantastic to build a community on NL of likeminded arcade gaming fans around the Switch and these releases - there is a thread in the forum about it. The weekly challenges we have been doing on these games has seen me make some great gaming buddies. We play for fun chasing our own scores and improving as players by sharing expertise and tips. We also as a new group of friends play a lot of other games together. So it has really brought us together and enriched our enjoyment of the hobby rather than be some kind of abstract barrier or arbitrary badge of honour. The arcade games on Switch are probably my personal highlight of buying the system.

@neufel @oorwullie Cheers for getting back to me. OUTLAST wasn't on my radar at all but I just happened upon some footage and it kept me watching. I'm a HUGE horror film and literature fan but never really played that many 'horror' video games. I think the latter is largely because I play games with and often alongside my wife and children. So not suitable to share with them. However, might make for an interesting change of pace for me in terms of a game I can play with headphones in handheld mode late at night solo.

Already downloaded the new Switch game demos as is my custom. Might even get round to playing one of them (e.g. The saucy one 😉).

Will add DARK SEAL aka GATE OF DOOM, that GBA beat-em-up 'Kintaro's Revenge' and the Psikyo shoot-em-up SOL DIVIDE to the wishlist. Possibly MOON PATROL too as its music is a major ear-worm.

@RetroGamerAndrew Oh of course, if you are throwing Capcom and Konami into the mix then yes, the Neo Geo beat-em-up library cannot compete. What Capcom and Konami did in the early to mid nineties was amazing in terms of constantly '1-upping' the other with their respective beat-em-up games. It would be absolutely incredible if we could get these games onto the Switch. Please, please, please someone make this happen. I want Capcom and Konami arcade games on the Switch and soon!

Is SENGOKU 3 the best side-scrolling best-em-up on Neo Geo? Must confess, I'm struggling to think of a better one: MUTATION NATION, ROBO ARMY, BURNING FIGHT, SENGOKU 1 and 2. Not bad games and I own most of 'em on Switch but SENGOKU 3 tops the lot. What other beat-em-ups does the Neo-Geo have? There's that NINJA one but I forget its name. Hopefully, that'll come to Switch one day.

@DABYX Not entirely sure I understand your concern? The Neo Geo MVS arcade hardware and the Neo Geo AES console hardware are practically identical from a software stand point. The games play near identically in a substantial number of cases. What am I missing?

Re: Mark Of The Ninja Remastered Is Creeping Onto Nintendo Switch This Autumn

Lroy

Never played this before and it has my interest on Switch. That's one of the good things about how the Switch library has developed - despite a lot of the naysayers - for us folk who don't own every system, play every game, read every piece of games news, reviews, watch every YouTube video et. al. - old games can be brand new experiences for us.

Re: Review: Sengoku 2 (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

Lroy

Much like the shoot-em-up genre, you simply cannot have 'too many' beat-em-ups on the Switch IMO. Also really looking forward to SENGOKU 3. The graphics on that game look superb and it is the only one from the series I have never really had much experience with. Will rectify that when it hits the eShop in a week or so.

Re: Review: Bad Dudes (Switch eShop)

Wish the Data East library had gone to Hamster as their Neo-Geo emulation is very good. I will still buy this game in the hope Flying Tiger can up their game if shown support e.g. ZeroDiv's support of their Psikyo titles has been commendable. They have patched most games and I hope they continue to do so and add online leaderboards like Hamster. Hell I hope Hamster recognise they too can still improve and give us some of the supplements that the NAMCO MUSEUM collection has on Switch: artwork borders, game manuals/instructions, plethora of audio visual options and filters.

Anyway, love this game. Would have a place in my own personal dream arcade, right next to Data East's ROBOCOP.

Been spending a small fortune lately with DANMAKU 3 UNLIMITED my latest purchase. Still on the fence for KIRBY so will hold off for now. AERO FIGHTERS 3 is a certainty but really need to try and wait to curb my rampant expenditure these past few weeks and months ☺️
