@RetroGamerAndrew I love those 70s Euro-Crime movies almost as much as I love giallo films. Actually, Italian cinema in general is pretty fantastic and this game looks suitably OTT mayhem.
I really hope this proposed series of Data East arcade releases find their way to the EU eShop. If the emulation is up to snuff, I'll very likely buy each and every one of them. I adore my portable arcade on Switch. Give me more and more arcade games from these iconic game companies please π» SNK, Psikyo, Data East, Technos, Irem, the more the merrier. Where's SEGA, Konami, Taito, Capcom, Cave et. al.
Already bought and enjoyed MAGICAL DROP II and will certainly be getting the third and often said definitive entry in this brilliant puzzle series. Actually already had this game on the Data East Arcade Classics collection for the Wii π
I was on the fence about HEROIC EPISODE but if it is indeed to feature as one of the NL community weekly high score challenges I'll bite π
I think that only leaves SENGOKU II as the other currently announced Neo Geo game still to come from Hamster. Here's hoping they can add SUPER SIDEKICKS 2 and TWINKLE STAR SPRITES to the roster soon.
Where's Data East's GATE OF DOOM aka DARK SEAL? The game has been released in the North American eShop today I believe? This the first arcade game from that Johnny Turbo label of Flying Dragon or some such.
Anyone know if and when it is coming to the UK store?
Good to see we still got Psikyo's SAMURAI ACES from ZeroDiv day and date with the States. I'll be grabbing both of those asap and THE FALL: PART 2 will head to the wishlist for a later date.
Finally, I also took delivery today of FIFA 18 physical for Β£23 off Amazon UK. I'm supposed to be on a buying ban, ha! ha!
@SepticLemon I appreciate some may run into owership issues such as PUZZLE BOBBLE 1 and 2 and WINDJAMMERS but one can dream. Moreover, I think a fair number of people, relatively speaking, do buy a lot of these releases hence why Hamster has promoted its financial sales success recently. Although I can of course recognise it is a smaller market than the Nindies or main retail releases are targeted at. Nevertheless, I for one would be interested in buying SUPER SPY and CYBER LIP for the Switch βΊοΈ
@SepticLemon Yeah, fun little title with a welcome gothic horror theme. What's with the star by your name? Does that mean you're staff here? I vaguely recall seeing other NLifers having such a demarcation or quite possibly I'm going senile, lol!
Anyways, let's hope there are no licensing snags and that Hamster can get NIGHTMARE IN THE DARK out on Switch in time for Halloween 2018.
@RetroGamerAndrew I actually went back and completed (ahem credit-fed) SNOW BROS. via emulation this past Christmas. I did the same for the similar style game NIGHTMARE IN THE DARK at Halloween which was a Neo Geo title. Fingers crossed we might see the latter as part of Hamster's releases.
But you're right, even within the single screen, maze puzzle genre there are loads of fun games (Data East made at least three on their own JOE & MAC RETURNS, TUMBLEPOP, DIET GO GO) I'd love the chance to play on Switch.
On the strength of my enjoyment of the first game on Wii U (a game itself which some might consider flawed and frustrating too) I'll certainly be buying this for Switch. The story, themes and aesthetic were fascinating. Just might have to wait as I already have too many games in my wish list to buy, not too mention the growing backlog of games unfinished and too little money to spend on every release that takes my fancy. Signs that the Switch is offering decent content and choice though. Well, for me at least, lol!
Weekends I tend to be working and then kicking back with a film or two but I'll certainly participate in a few runs on PULSTAR as part of the community arcade high-score event. Who needs a Splatfest or a Party Clash when you have NL's Shmup weekly challenge to play π
@HauntingNostrils Alas no PS4 for me. I'll look up a gameplay video for the WONDER BOY 1 remake. Love that game. Master System version might even trump the arcade original for me.
Wow, we're now official aye? Sweet. Let's hope plenty of folk get involved and that we can keep this going and bring in all genres of arcade games available on Switch π
Back to news of Monster Boy's release. Good stuff, I have WONDERBOY: THE DRAGON'S TRAP on Switch and keep putting off playing it as I told myself I'd replay 1 and 2 on Master System first. But with this release incoming I had better crack on with it, lol!
@joey302 That addictive aye? I have only ever tried and failed to play CRAZY CLIMBER on Mame. Couldn't get the controls to work properly but I assume on the Switch you use each JoyCon to control each arm as your climb?
@HauntingNostrils You Sir are a gaming God. Would love to have a complete set of games for a retro console. Especially one so dear to my childhood. Amazing.
@HauntingNostrils Every Master System game? North American or European? Either way, that is amazing. My first console of my own was a Sega Master System.
@Deathwalka Apologies. I haven't kept up with this thread. I was pretty grumpy and disappointed with the announcement as once the 1 Gold Coin equals 1 pence had been revealed. I just feel it could have been a lot more generous but who knows. Let's see how this new system evolves. As for my coins. I can't even remember. I have been trying to use the Gold coins up as they expire each month. Basically, very little option but to redeem them against wallpapers for laptop and iPad, iPhones. I also grabbed the Pikmin 3 DLC and some 3DS themes. I'll have Gold coins expiring over the coming months as I bought stuff pretty much monthly since Switch launched last March. Heaven knows how many Β£ that outlay is in total. It will likely only net me a pittance in actual cash off future purchases. Anyway, I'll stop rambling as plenty here feel strongly the other way and that we should be extremely grateful to get anything off for our loyal and substantial financial custom we have given this company. I've no desire to spread any more negativity about my feelings regarding this matter. So I'll sign off.
Yep, I've bought every ZeroDiv Psikyo release so far and will definitely be adding this to my already sizeable shoot 'em up collection for Switch. Also kudos for the contextual info regarding the split from Video System and the formation of Psikyo. I'd love to read a feature on NL discussing these matters and how the Neo Geo based AERO FIGHTERS series fits into all this. AERO FIGHTERS 2 and 3 sharing DNA as they do with Psikyo's template for shooters albeit in a different aspect ratio π
@joey302 Ok. Buddy. As long as you have a Nintendo Account linked to your Switch Profile (you'll have one if you have ever played online on the Switch or bought a game off the eShop) it is simply a case of selecting your profile avatar and selecting add friend from the list of options on the left. There should be an option on the right that says search for friend with friend code. Enter my code in there and it'll find me and confirm you want to send me an invite. Confirm it and then i'll get a notification to accept at my end. Done.
@joey302 Excuse me if I'm getting things mixed up or if we have already done this but I think we were going to exchange Switch friend codes in the past? If you click on my username, my friend code is visible on my NL profile. Shoot me over a friend invite buddy. We can see what arcade games we've been playing. I recently completed METAL SLUG X again. Such a great game but hard as nails.
Interestingly, we are getting another Data East game on the horizon in the form of Neo Geo's MAGICAL DROP III from Hamster. Other games confirmed are FATAL FURY 3 and SENGOKU 2.
If anyone knows of the other Data East games coming then give us a holler.
For now though here's my top picks of games I hope to see as part of this new line of arcade games on Switch (decent emulation permitting): BAD DUDES, ROBOCOP, SLY SPY, THE CLIFFHANGER: EDWARD RANDY, JOE & MAC, BLOODY WOLF, MIDNIGHT RESISTANCE, DESERT ASSAULT, BOOGIE WINGS, NIGHT SLASHERS, CAPTAIN AMERICA AND THE AVENGERS, NITRO BALL, WINDJAMMERS and GHOSTLOP.
MAGICAL DROP II for the Neo Geo is a Data East game already on Switch courtesy of Hamster. I'm very excited for more games from their back catalogue. Not played this one but am likely to pick it up at some point to see how this publisher handles the emulation and if good, will want to support their efforts to bring more Data East classics to the Switch.
Please tell me the estimates of 1 Gold Coin equates to 1 pence or 1 cent are incorrect. If that is true it is an utter insult by Nintendo and I hope they get significant flak for such a miserly approach to rewards. As much as I love Nintendo and the Switch, it is growing increasingly hard to ignore just how (lazy/ignorant/greedy) they are when it comes to pricing/rewards etc.
I'm sure many of us have invested a small fortune into the Switch and its games since launch. All of that money to Nintendo and riding on such a success. I may be a fool but I expected more of them in terms of My Nintendo since its creation. Business or not, surely all these Gold coins we have accumulated would be at least worth the cost of a full price Indie eShop game or perhaps half price off a 1st party digital game.
Seems greed is all that matters to business and I'm stupid to ever think it could be otherwise.
@joey302 Agreed. Such a shame companies like Data East are no more. Always hope to see their legacy live on albeit in the hands of other companies that now own their IPs. Please, please, please let the emulation be of a high standard. If so, I'll buy plenty of these games.
Has there been an announcement for the next batch of Neo Geo games coming from Hamster? Tomorrow's 2020 SUPER BASEBALL is the last one of the current slate.
Presumably FATAL FURY 3 may be part of the upcoming releases then?
[UPDATE] FATAL FURY 3, MAGICAL DROP III and SENGOKU 2 are all incoming for the Switch!!!
@Shiryu I had to select the game and manually get the update to start. I think it is highlight game on Switch and then hit (+) plus to bring up the software options. One of those is check for update. The game then updated for me and the invisible bullet glitch was noticeably reduced. Bullets still get obscured by the green power up pellets but they are at least visible once they move from underneath them.
I imagine in the original arcade game, the bullets were likely prioritised as the top layer and thus would not ever be obscured by other in-game graphics? Anyway, much better now than it was.

I'll likely be buying both the vertical shoot 'em ups. At least, I believe SENGOKU ACES is a vertical scrolling shooter much like Psikyo's other output? (The original post above says horizontal). Will continue to support ZeroDiv and other companies dedicated to bringing great arcade games to the Switch.
More likely to get round to picking up STRIKERS 1945 II or another ACA Neo Geo game on my wish list than anything here. That's cool. Can't afford to have games I want every week, lol!
Slim pickings quite honestly. KIRBY STAR ALLIES is the only game I'll be buying on cart at retail during the first 3 months of 2018. Thankful the eShop continues to provide some options that will get me excited albeit if I'm financially relieved at not having to find the money for full price games every week, month.
@KeeperBvK Fair enough. I love PLANTS VS. ZOMBIES wherever it began. I own the game on Steam, iPad, PS3 and iPhone. The latter being the platform I most associated with it purely from my own time spent with the game on mobile. Thanks for the clarification and it wasn't my intention to suggest just because a game was 'a mobile game' it means it is synonymous with low quality. I appreciate there are gems (often very well buried) amongst all the tat on the App Store. Just pondering out loud that I'd rather the eShop was less quantity and more quality from my own perspective of these things.
@meppi Really good to hear they responded well to your contact. SENGOKU ACES has piqued my interest as whilst I am unfamiliar with the game it is apparently created by the man behind the fab AERO FIGHTERS/SONIC WINGS shooters and actually the first game Psikyo made as a company?
Banjo K and Diddy Kong Racing are probably the two retro games on past Nintendo systems I'd like most to revisit on the Switch's Virtual Console. I'm aware such a release of these games and the existence of a Switch VC are mere flights of fancy but an N64 lover can dream, lol!
Another one for the wish list. What's coming next as I think this is the last game of the previously announced most recent batch of Neo Geo titles from Hamster.
