Re: Talking Point: Is EA's Switch Strategy Lazy, Or Simply Common Sense?

Lroy

“Hot Pursuit, lest we forget, was a PS4/Xbox One launch title.” - I don’t think this is factually correct. NEED FOR SPEED: HOT PURSUIT was 360/PS3 and even got an inferior port to the original Wii.

Most importantly, Hot Pursuit was bloody brilliant back in 2010 and I’ve even sunk 20hrs plus into the game again on PS3 this year alone. Pre-owned copies can be had for less than £5. The online servers are still up although suspect this remaster will sound the death knell to that.

Either way, delighted this Criterion racer is coming to Switch and am enjoying the recent BURNOUT PARADISE: REMASTERED on Switch too.

Would’ve loved to see the original PLANTS VS. ZOMBIES come over along with DEAD SPACE, DANTE’S INFERNO and MASS EFFECT. Hopefully, in 2021/22.

Re: Nintendo's Huge Spring Sale Gets Even Bigger, Lots Of Top Switch Games Discounted (Europe)

Lroy

Can’t see any discount at present on SLAY THE SPIRE. Still showing as £19.99. Is this an error by NL or is this game going to be discounted later?

Must say, Nintendo never fail to disappoint with the meagre discounts they offer on first-party games. I deliberately held off buying anything in this current sale to see if they might actually offer 40-50% off but no. Of course not.

Likely proceed and spend the cash on Nindies instead. Got my eye on WARGROOVE, BATTLE CHASERS: NIGHTWAR and the aforementioned SLAY THE SPIRE if it gets a price cut. Already bought DARKSIDERS WARMASTERED EDITION for Wii U as it was £2.99!

Re: Switch Lite Teardown Suggests It Has The Same Drift-Prone Analogue Sticks As Standard Model

Lroy

@nessisonett The Pro Controller also has a design issue due to the materials used and this leads to drift as well. Save your money and buy a leading brand alternative to any of Nintendo’s Joy-Con or Pro Controllers. Ludicrous that this is the situation but hey ho.

For a decent D-Pad, I recommend the HORI Pokken Controller. It can be had for less than £20.

For a controller with joysticks, I have pre-ordered the new 8-Bit Do Pro+ it’s gotten good reviews online. That one was pricey £40 approx but I am simply not prepared to shell out for a second Pro Controller from Nintendo.

You have been warned but good luck and hope you find a more reliable controller to enjoy your Switch again.

Re: Video: What Actually Causes Switch Joy-Con Drift?

Lroy

@beazlen1 I’ve had two sets since launch. So they would be outside the 12 month warranty I assume amazon uk and Argos uk offer? Nintendo aren’t interested because I didn’t buy them from Nintendo UK store.

I then have a Pro Controller bought from Sainsbury’s in Nov 2017. Again, suspect now outside any warranty period offered by that supermarket. My other set of Joy-Con came with the second Switch console I bought in Spring 2018. Again, from Sainsbury’s. So again, outside warranty.

Because I didn’t buy them from Nintendo directly (why would I at the extra cost?) and because they are not covered by Nintendo’s UK store warranty of 24 months as a result. The person I spoke to simply wouldn’t help me.

I’ll be contacting Nintendo again and see if their stance within the UK has changed at all.

Re: Video: What Actually Causes Switch Joy-Con Drift?

Lroy

It baffles me why the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller keeps being omitted from the discussions about ‘drift’. The analogue sticks on the Pro Controller are also blighted by a similar design flaw and develop drift also. Not too mention the fact the D-Pad often registers incorrect inputs too.

All 3 of my Joy-Con sets have drift to varying degrees and my Pro left analogue stick is the worst offender for it.

To date, Nintendo UK have done absolutely nothing to offer a repair service. Unless you bought your hardware/controllers direct from Nintendo themselves (which I would imagine the vast majority of Switch owners do not, Amazon etc being considerably cheaper) they simply say not our problem.

Whole scenario stinks and has soured the otherwise overwhelmingly positive experience of being a Day 1 owner.

I’ll never buy another Pro Controller or set of Joy-Con from Nintendo unless this design and manufacture flaw has been explicitly stated as being fixed.

If anyone can recommend a non-Nintendo alternative for both the pro controller and the joycon, i’m all ears. Rather give my money to someone other than Nintendo when it comes to controllers now.

Re: Dry Bowser Takes To The Court In Mario Tennis Aces, New Trailer Shows Him In Action

Lroy

Wish Camelot and Nintendo would add more additional content for the single-player campaign. The core gameplay is great but there’s very little actual game content in which to use it. Bought this at launch and have currently less than 15hrs gameplay logged. So not worth the asking price in my experience but I haven’t utilised the online tourneys or online multiplayer as much as I could. That’s the only way I can see myself getting some more value out of the game for the cash I paid.

Unless, I have missed it in the options, you can’t even replay through the story mode with a different character without having to wipe your save file. Daft.

Re: Konami's Castlevania, Contra And Arcade Collections Now Include Japanese Game Versions

Lroy

After the post-launch support SUPER BOMBERMAN R got, the announcement of a brand new CONTRA game and now these updates for the Anniversary Collections, looks like Konami are making small steps back into positivity among gamers. Is it confirmed we have TATE mode for these collections as an option too?

Own two and intend buy all three of the Anniversary Collections. Hopefully, we’ll get some more especially of Konami’s 90s arcade output.

Re: Looks Like Ubisoft's Child Of Light Isn't Getting A Sequel After All

Lroy

Such a shame. Recall some pretty definitive noises coming out few years back that CHILD OF LIGHT 2 was coming. Bizarre such remarks would be made - several tweets from not just this person - if production had never even began on a follow-up.

Gutted, this and THE WOLF AMONG US never got the sequels they deserved.

Re: Capcom Teases An Arcade Collection With Some Rare Gems

Lroy

Super hyped. Absolutely adore Capcom arcade games. Honestly would be flawed if they gave us ALIENS VS. PREDATOR. Talk about holy grails of beat-em-ups. Come on SEGA bring REVENGE OF DEATH ADDER to Switch and Konami we want all your beat-em-ups and SUNSET RIDERS and MYSTIC WARRIORS while you’re at it.

Re: Mario Tennis Aces Version 3.0 Adds New Opening Movie, Ring Shot Mode And More

Lroy

I played through the story and have never gone back. I keep meaning too as some of the new online co-op missions look cool, I just wish they weren’t timed events tied to online. I’d like them to just be extra modes that stay in the game forever and allow you to play them whenever you feel like it and have time. I’m actually already so fatigued by limited, special event style content in games nowadays. I often just avoid them altogether. So please inform me if I have misunderstood how this extra content that gets rolled out for this game works.

Plus, it would be nice to actually get some kind of animation for whatever is supposed to be in the treasure chests you open in the story mode.

The core-tennis gameplay is great in MARIO TENNIS ACES but I do feel the surrounding game content around it was actually a bit of a let down.

Re: Star Wars Pinball Is Coming To Switch With Exclusive Features And A Physical Edition

Lroy

@JayJ I imagine the Zen original tables might not actually work as intended anymore if they implemented these new physics? Don’t get me wrong, I’d love the ‘deep’ engine to be applied to every single Zen table but would imagine that would require going back and even redesigning, altering some of the tables. I would hazard a guess it is far more complex than just ‘flicking a switch’ to implement this.

Re: Star Wars Pinball Is Coming To Switch With Exclusive Features And A Physical Edition

Lroy

@holygeez03 I think the Marvel tables will come to Switch in this same manner as STAR WARS PINBALL.

Yes, I agree going back to Zen’s fictional tables with their more video game physics is jarring but doable. But quite honestly, I pretty much play the Williams Volumes 99% of the time if i’m playing PBFX3.

I’ll still buy all the tables Zen put out, including the physical release of STAR WARS PINBALL, as I want to support Zen as I would love to see them continue to produce these digital creations of real-world tables and go on to secure more licences in addition to the Williams/Bally ones.

Re: Star Wars Pinball Is Coming To Switch With Exclusive Features And A Physical Edition

Lroy

@Tirza Have you played the new Williams/Bally tables in PINBALL FX 3? ‘Deep’ one of the brain-boxes over at Zen has created an entirely new physics engine and it is hands-down the most realistic game-play you can get in digital pinball.

EDIT: Play the Williams or Bally tables in classic/arcade or if you’re really hardcore classic/tournament settings. Absolutely phenomenal. Zen have gone from having fantasy, floaty physics lagging behind FarSight’s (TPA/Stern) gameplay to now being the gold-standard of gameplay realism in pinball.

Re: Don't Expect A Saturn Mini Anytime Soon, Says Sega

Lroy

Pre-ordered the Mega Drive Mini. I’d buy every Sega Mini console system too. Saturn top of the list but I’d take a Master System one next year for sure.

Obligatory, I would love for BAKU BAKU ANIMAL to be released on a Saturn mini but in the meantime get it out on SEGA AGES for Switch.

Here’s footage of this awesome puzzle game.

Re: Free-To-Play Puzzler Gems Of War Is Out Now On Switch

Lroy

@nhSnork I never knew the original PUZZLE QUEST came to DSi ? I own it on Steam and PSP on Vita but I’d buy it again on 3DS for sure. Will have to check to see if the DSi store is even still accessible on 3DS. I did buy that Steam World Tower Defence game off the DSi store for 3DS but that was a good few years back now.

Re: Free-To-Play Puzzler Gems Of War Is Out Now On Switch

Lroy

@XenoShaun Thanks for sharing that information. Not heard of CLICKER HEROES myself. But I get what you’re saying about not needing to spend cash to play the game properly. I’ve got it downloaded and gave it a go yesterday. I’ll certainly stick with it and see how I get on. Just really miss PUZZLE QUEST 1 and 2. Hoping this can live up to that strong legacy for these types of games.

Re: Free-To-Play Puzzler Gems Of War Is Out Now On Switch

Lroy

Oh and someone needs to get a port of MIGHT & MAGIC: CLASH OF HEROES onto the Nintendo Switch. Undoubtedly, the absolute pinnacle of puzzle/RPG hybrids. A fantastic game on Nintendo DS. There’s a spruced up version on PSN and other platforms too but the DS had the benefit of no load times.

Re: Free-To-Play Puzzler Gems Of War Is Out Now On Switch

Lroy

From some of the folks behind the brilliant puzzle-match3-RPG games PUZZLE QUEST 1 and 2, so definitely worth a shot for free. However, I have heard some mixed comments about the game on mobile due to the in-game transactions. Basically, wish there was a way to strip all that out and just play PUZZLE QUEST 2 on Switch, lol!

Re: Kid Icarus And StarTropics Join The Switch Online NES Library This Month

Lroy

@Heavyarms55 This may have already been answered in the comments here, but you can create a Japanese account for your Switch/My Nintendo. Just needs a dedicated email address. You can then access the Japanese eShop and download the Famicom Switch Online app. Then open that app with the Switch account (you mentioned North American) you have linked to the Online Service Plan. It should still boot up the Famicom app and play just fine but alas, no English support as far as I’m aware? Not really used it much myself but do have the NES and Famicom apps downloaded and running.
