Good to read this game has been received so well. It's a tough challenge for sure but as stated above, it really does capture that classic horizontal scrolling shooter magic. Certainly a one more goer!
Just haven't had the pennies nor time for this one yet. Pinned to the wishlist though and I'm so looking forward to more IREM Arcade Archives - especially the R-TYPE series.
This is the company's twitter - any chance someone can tweet them (I don't have an account there) and ask if these games are coming to European eShops? @ftegames
This is classic Data East. Played the heck out of this arcade cabinet at my local leisure centre as a kid. And on the Amiga port. Since returned to it on the Wii (Data East Arcade Classics collection) and via emulation. Would love to have it on my Switch. 100% nostalgia for me, despite its flaws. One of my all-time fave arcade games.
Is this from that Johnny Turbo label? Will it come to U.K. eShop? Still waiting on DARK SEAL aka GATE OF DOOM to appear.
Really interesting and exciting to see 'modern' arcade games such as these nestle in nicely along with the classic 80's and 90's arcade games we are getting on Switch.
I'm all for more arcade/retro collections coming to the Switch. Be nice to have them physical as well as digital. The Atari 2600 is an historical system but largely a blind spot for me. If it has Atari arcade games on, I'll likely bite. I just earnestly hope we get to see other arcade collections from the likes of Capcom, Konami, Sega, Taito, Cave, Midway et. al.
And wake up NAMCO we want more games for NAMCO MUSEUM be it as DLC or another collection.
Yowsers! Was anticipating a positive review but this was evangelical. Best Shmup on Switch?! That's some serious praise. Can you hear this CAVE? Come on now and bring all your bullets to this growing Switch shooters heaven.
@Alikan We bought the Switch as a family console (as we did Wii U and Wii before it). My young son was the main reason why we decided to give it a go. He had never played a Skylanders game before and to date it is still the game he has put the most hours into (over a hundred according to his activity profile). Of course, more recent games such as ARMS, SPLATOON 2 and MARIO ODYSSEY are closing in on that now but all in all. I would say we got more than our money's worth out of it and that includes all the additional expense of buying all the Sensei figures.
In fact, the wife and I even played the story mode through to completion in local co-op having already exhausted 1-2 SWITCH and completing SNIPPER CLIPS and SUPER BOMBERMAN R together. That first few months of the Switch were light on games I really wanted but we made the best of it.
@Marios-love-child I thought I was the only one on the planet who didn't buy BREATH OF THE WILD along with my day 1 Switch π Ended up with 1-2 SWITCH, SNIPPERCLIPS, SUPER BOMBERMAN R and SKYLANDERS IMAGINATORS instead βΊοΈ
The art style and turn-based battles piqued my interest back when this was first shown in a past Nintendo direct. That seems like a long, long time ago now. Glad it is finally seeing a release and will look out for reviews.
Oh yes! Loved AERO FIGHTERS for SNES back in the day and of course AERO FIGHTERS 2 for Neo Geo hardware. From the little I can remember of 3. It is of the same great Video System quality.
Good news, always try to keep my expectations in check but very much looking forward to seeing what, if anything, Nintendo have up their sleeve. The Switch is celebrating its first year after all.
Noticed this had popped up on the UK eShop recently. The trailer certainly captured my interest as I do like me some BOMBERMAN and I'm intrigued to see how they rework this template as some of the footage had enemies firing down certain lanes etc. Onto the wishlist it goes.
Cool to see some 'modern' arcade games coming to Switch. My heart belongs to the late 80s and 90s arcade titles but these newer arcade games are still awesome as it gives many of us a chance to play them for the first time. Perhaps, the process of getting arcade games built on hardware from the early 2000s onto Switch is more tricky hence the longer development time? On the wishlist they go for sure.
@OorWullie Sing it brother! Switch is becoming arcade nirvana. It also has one of the best turn-based strategy games of all time in MARIO + RABBIDS KINGDOM BATTLE. Honestly, that game should be right up there along with ZELDA: BotW and MARIO ODYSSEY in any discussion of the greatest games released for Switch in year one. Long may this glorious reign continue.
Totally agree with all those that suggest the 3DS Game Play Activity Log is far , far superior. Alongside being able to save your game save data to 'NintenSpace' or SD card an overhaul of the Switch Activity Profile is top of my wishlist for this system. Baffling why Nintendo don't seem to be making things such as this - which improve the user experience - a priority.
Oh yes! AERO FIGHTERS 3 and SENGOKU 3 for starters. Both were high on my Hamster wishlist. I'll also grab GHOST PILOTS at some point down the line. Still several great Neo Geo games I'd love to come to Switch. Good times.
@sfb Ha! Ha! I played through all the levels of SNOW BROS. this past Christmas (credit feeding) on Mame. I may well do the same for SNOW BROS. 2 this year - although what with all the snow in the U.K. at present it might be more apt to play it this weekend, lol!
@RetroGamerAndrew Thanks for the clarification and comments about this game: I think I'll push it back into wishlist then rather than immediate purchase. I wish there were more classic single screen arcade games akin to those we mentioned on Switch. I can only think of MARIO BROS. In the Arcade Archives series on the system so far.
I too recently saw a listing for this game on the Japanese eShop. I like the look of the gameplay in this one. The room at a time flow of the game, clearing enemies and platforming elements reminds me of some of those fun single screen arcade platformers such as SNOW BROS. , TUMBLEPOP, NIGHTMARES IN THE DARK.
Can anyone who has played the game previously on another platform, tell me whether these impressions are actually accurate to the actual game and how it plays?
Kudos to Nintendo for having a demo of KIRBY STAR ALLIES. I think every 1st party game should have one (I'd love one for all games to be honest). Lovely treat for my son when he got in from school. I had recently put the game on the 'to-buy later' category but as a vote of thanks for giving us a demo I may revert back to getting it Day 1. Seriously, amazed we still don't have demos for games like ZELDA: BREATH OF THE WILD and MARIO + RABBIDS KINGDOM BATTLE. Both games are to some degree an acquired taste for many and I guarantee both would sell even more if folks had a chance to try them.
Also, not to be a pedant but there is only one Neo Geo game in this update. The post description suggests a 'flurry of Neo Geo ports'. SENGOKU 2 is the ACA Neo Geo game from Hamster. The other game is STARFORCE an arcade game in the Arcade Archives series. This game has nothing to do with the Neo Geo.
@Shiryu Thanks for all the info. Sadly, I very rarely use Steam these days but I'll try and remember to add it to my wishlist on there. Think I already have it on my Vita wishlist.
@Shiryu Really? That's good to know. I presumed these games would never come to Switch as they are usually played on arcade hardware with multiple monitors. I think there was a really well reviewed console exclusive one - perhaps for Sega Saturn or Dreamcast. I forget.
Definitely add to my wish list (that grows no matter how often I prune it back). May have to wait until it gets down to Β£20 or less though. Spread what limited gaming funds I have as far as they can go.
Was pretty underwhelmed by what I played based off the recent Switch demo (grabbed it off the Japanese eShop but think the demo is also out in other regions now). The lack of actual control and buttons hindered my enjoyment to be honest and despite being modern, the older Neo-Geo shooters such as PULSTAR and BLAZING STAR are vastly superior in terms of gameplay.
@Robotron2084 Absolutely, mega-fan of gialli. Even the most derivative and mediocre giallo has more visual/aural style and technical panache than its equivalent in the more popular 80s American slasher.

Bravo Hamster. Get out there and get deals with all the major arcade developers from the 80s and 90s. Starting with SEGA, Capcom and Konami.

A great puzzle game by any standard and one of Data East's very best games. Fantastic that both 2 and 3 are on the Switch.
