Been looking forward to buying ACA Double Dragon since it was announced. Shame it seems to have disappeared from the eShop?! As mentioned the game is currently only visible in my wish list. Error message when attempt to purchase. May have to wait until New Year now as the little gaming time I have will likely be dictated by entertaining family preferences. Never mind, as long as Double Dragon does indeed arrive soon it will be a amazing way to kick off my 2018 gaming. I play as many retro titles (if not more due to their shorter length) as I do shiny new stuff.
Aside from DD I'll likely try the demo available. I tend to grab any and all of them - my son is more than happy to spend time with a game demo, lol!
@crackafreeze Cheers for your impressions fella. I've stuck it on my wish list for the New Year. Last few pennies for games in 2017 will be going on Arcade Archives DOUBLE DRAGON and R-TYPE if the latter arrives.
A remastered version of WindJammers has been released on Sony PSN for PS4 and Vita I believe? Same company as the one that did the WonderBoy Dragon's Trap remake.
Really hoping the emulation is arcade perfect on these Data East titles. Their back catalogue has some really fun and humorous - not too mention bonkers (Trio the Punch anyone? π) - games.
Surprised the updates for this game didn't at least run to a 12 month period. I'm expecting ARMS to be under my Xmas tree along side SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY. Hopefully, they'll still be some people like me who were late to the party but can still get some mileage out of the online?
Also, fans of the arcade game who have the means to play GBA games whether it be through emulation or original hardware. Go play DOUBLE DRAGON ADVANCE. It is absolutely phenomenal. Like a best hits package of the arcade Double Dragon 1, 2 with gameplay refinements and superior graphics.
@GrailUK Is this for real? Amazing, just been reading through Hardcore Gaming 101's book of Data East Arcade Classics. So many memories. Let's have some Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja, Robocop, Night Slashers, WindJammers, Joe and Mac, Two Crude, Sly Spy, Boogie Nights and that Indiana Jones one for starters.
Side note: dude, turn on your activity profile so I can see what you been playing π
@dav2612 Thank you for clarifying this for me. I thought I'd misunderstood as how could they possibly release the game on Switch lacking this basic functionality. Anyway, thanks again. I'm indeed tempted to play this game and see if I can get into it. Been years since I played FIFA and worry it will be too difficult now. The last one I played definitely began to feel too much like a simulation and it was a real challenge to even score more than one goal in a match against the A.I on anything but the easiest two difficulty settings.
Noticed FIFA 18 is now discounted on the eShop. Can anyone tell me if the career mode in this game allows for the buying and selling of players? I recall reading a few reviews on its release that seemed to imply this was missing from the Switch version. Baffling if that is true as what is the point of a career mode if you can't alter and shape the squad of your club?
Anyway, used to be a big FIFA fan but haven't really put any time into the franchise for a number of years. However, I may be tempted to give this one a try.
@crackafreeze Cool. Be keen to hear your thoughts on it. Shoot me over a Switch friend invite if you fancy? Always keen to see what folks have been playing on their activity profiles.
There's no better recommendation a game can get than seeing people have actually put time into playing it. Too many folk talk about how good game X or game Y is but then reveal they never spent much time with it at all. Some reviewers don't even finish games they review.
Very likely the most fondly remembered arcade game of my entire gaming life. An incredible Christmas gift to mark the end of an incredible Switch adventure for me in 2017. Day 1 download with a bullet!
@crackafreeze Yeah, I like the look of this one. Kind of reminds me - gameplay wise - of the METAL SLUG series and other chaotic and charmingly humorous run n' guns.
@OorWullie Great to see a beat' em up with online co-op come to Switch. Last decent one I can remember was that FINAL FIGHT digital release on PSN for PS3. I'll pick the game up at some stage but need to curb my spending until the New Year. Will have new Switch games under the tree come Xmas and plenty to keep chipping away at in my backlog. I may however have to make an exception for the incoming DOUBLE DRAGON Arcade Archive release (how I wish that had online co-op). Anyways, enjoy your purchases π
Namco Museum is finally on sale. Β£15 is a far easier pill to swallow for this particular collection. Guess I'll make it another Switch software related gift for myself for Xmas, lol!
@OorWullie Cool, whilst not every game in the collection holds much personal nostalgia for me. It will be a fitting way for me to round out my gaming in 2017. A year which has seen me get massively back into arcade games, not least thanks to the Switch and releases like this and the Hamster Arcade Archives. Look forward to giving these vintage Namco games a spin with HD rumble π
Both Pinball games and that new game demo for me. As well as finally pulling the trigger on the Namco Museum Collection. Been waiting for discount since release.
@GrailUK Ha! Ha! Authenticity, I could visualise it - sounds and smells too. (Sent you over a friend invite btw).
I'll no doubt pick this up at some stage. Actually, completed the original NES game earlier this year. So be cool to notice the differences here with that sort of fresh in my mind.
Was hoping this one would come to the Switch. Look forward to picking it up and playing it soon.
Also, just to say, it is fantastic to see so many of the positive comments for arcade/retro games above and often on the other Arcade Archive posts/threads. Feels like a community π»
@OorWullie Ah I see. Makes sense, like you said what with the MVS and AES having virtually the same presentation.
Roll on DOUBLE DRAGON, R-TYPE and any more we are still due before the end of the year. Does anyone have a definitive list in that regard? What arcade games have been confirmed for the last few weeks of 2017 and any confirmed with dates for 2018? I can't get enough of them despite the weekly wallet outlay.
@OorWullie I think you can rotate the screen to play vertically on Switch in the Hamster Neo-Geo games? Not exactly the same but similar to that other company putting out GUNBIRD and STRIKERS 1945.
GBA games on Switch you say? Please, please release DOUBLE DRAGON ADVANCE. Would be an awesome one-two punch with the original Technos arcade DOUBLE DRAGON imminent for an Arcade Archive switch release. The GBA version might even be 'the' pinnacle form of this legendary beat-em up.
Another nice arcade game shaped surprise for us retro-loving Switch owners. Honestly, so happy to see arcade games of 80s/90s vintage come to Nintendo's hybrid system. Emulation is great of course but I personally love seeing these games get official releases on modern hardware.
@OorWullie Yep, awesome news. I often peruse the UK and U.S eShops - more often than I manage to play games in fact, lol! Noticed the GUNBIRD listing late last night. Great stuff, I'm really looking forward to what other arcade titles make it to Switch in 2018!
Been mad busy of late but will certainly pick this one up as soon as I get some Switch time. Looks like another great opportunity to share some arcade couch co-op fun with my young son.
Also very curious to hear what Hamster has in store for us next with their Neo-Geo and other arcade titles.
I'd imagine most people interested in this type of game for Switch will be wondering, like myself, which is the superior: LetterQuest Remastered or Spellspire? Both have come to the Switch in the past couple of months.
@Shiryu Just wanted to express my huge thanks for tipping me off to the pseudo-sequel for Sunset Riders. I fired up Mystic Warriors on Mame emulation last night and was blown away at how much fun it is. Essentially, a more refined version of the mighty Sunset Riders with ninjas! Plus, early on there is an awesome nod to this Dev team's previous masterpiece: fighting through an American drive-in, the movie playing on the big screen is the memorable attract mode intro for Sunset Riders. Just brilliant. Mystic Warriors has been one of my most pleasant gaming discoveries this year. Thank you Sir!
Another for the Switch wish list. Will get to it eventually. Thank you Hamster. Many of us appreciate the legacy of the Neo-Geo and arcade game fun, hence why these ACA releases are doing so well. Long may it continue.
@Shiryu Hell yes. I recall reading a Retro Gamer magazine article on the Wild Guns remaster a few months back. Sounded really interesting, an evolution of the SNES original.
@Shiryu Seconded. It burned paying the full retail price for SUPER BOMBERMAN R at launch but credit to Konami. In this instance, I do feel they have tried to add in more value to a game which was blatantly overpriced to begin with. It would be a wonderful gaming world indeed if Konami could bring over so many of its quality gaming IPs from yesteryear. Along with Capcom, Konami are a true giant in terms of their legacy across the arcades and 8-bit, 16-bit era consoles. Earlier this year I revisited Sunset Riders both on Snes and on the arcade machine. Such a brilliant and fun game.
Actually, scratch that. I had forgotten this Karnov fighter had been previously announced under an alternative title along with the latest slate of releases:
"Seven more NeoGeo games are on the way. We can look forward to Art of Fighting 3: The Path of the Warrior (already released), Street Hoop (released last week), Fighterβs History Dynamite (coming this week), Soccer Brawl (Nov), World Heroes (Nov), Top Hunter: Roddy & Cathy (Dec), and The Last Blade (Dec)." (Taken from NintendoEverything)
So that leave two Thursdays at the end of December for potentially two more unannounced Neo Geo games. Any guesses as to what they'll be?
Hadn't realised this one was coming. Think I know about 4 other ACA Neo Geo Switch games announced by Hamster. The aforementioned futuristic footie game, now this Karnov fighter and stuff like Last Blade and that co-op action platformer where you get to jump in mechs. So does that leave the door open for 1 or 2 more as yet unannounced Neo Geo surprises for Switch to round out the rest of 2017?
UPDATE I can confirm this latest patch has fixed the former problem I mentioned and HAS-BEEN HEROES now appears and tracks your game play time via your profile as it used to properly. Suggest they now reduce the price and try and get more people playing it. Games prominent on your friends activity log sells games. It's simple and effective word of mouth style advertising. Stunned 1-2 Switch still hasn't been patched to demonstrate how well it sold and how many people have played it.
Sincerely hope this latest update now fixes the problem introduced by the previous update which meant HAS-BEEN HEROES no longer appeared in your profile play activity history.
Letter Quest Remastered was 'free' on PSPlus for Vita a good few months back. Is this new Switch game in any way related to it? They seem like, exactly the same?!!
The My Nintendo rewards scheme continues to be such a depressing waste of potential. Honestly, Nintendo are either clueless on how to reward its customers in terms of worthwhile, genuine discounts of value or they are simply plain greedy. Either reward your customers for buying your full price products or don't. As it stands, it's little more than an insult.
Apologies for my grouchiness. Fatigued by the lack of improvement in this service since it launched.
Happy to see the Switch and Nintendo doing so well. Always room for improvement in terms of quality of software/services for its customers and hopefully the deluge of cash will go towards that. I optimistically predicted the Switch would outsell the Wii U in its first year and will be amazing if this does indeed happen.
For anyone curious the next batch of Neo-Geo games coming to Switch are: (taken from NintendoEverything)
