Update: If you were hoping to back Elementallis before the Kickstarter comes to a close, you have a little over 24 hours to do just that. At present, the project has raised more than €90,000 and has met most of its stretch goals.
More info on the game can be found in our original article below.
Original Article (Mon 10th May, 2021 10:30 BST): With The Legend of Zelda being the super popular – and super good – series that it is, it's hardly surprising that so many developers aim to create new experiences inspired by or based upon its gameplay. Elementallis is the latest title to do just that, and it's just secured itself a release on Switch.

From indie developer Iván Ruiz Lozano, Elementallis is described as "a classic top-down adventure with a modernized retro aesthetic." The game's been generating funds on Kickstarter for around a week now, and with another 24 days still to go, it's already gathered more than double its original €18,000 goal.
The Kickstarter page says that Elementallis is "mimicking the style and feel of classic 2D Zelda games," and we're certainly getting the Zelda vibes from the trailer above. Players can expect to explore a "vast" world, conquer dungeons, and restore 'Elements' to solve puzzles along the way.
"As a son of elementallists, you took part on the disruption of the Elements and now you'll need to travel the world and restore them with the aid of your newly met Elemental. Explore the lands of Elregir, help its inhabitants, face enemies and strong bosses and solve puzzles in your quest to restore the Elements and bring back the world to its former balance."
Features:
- Prove your worth in the 8 dungeons, full of puzzles, secrets, enemies and bosses.
- Use the Elements to fight, solve puzzles and uncover previously inaccessible areas in a metroidvania-esque style.
- Discover the 8 different biomes and help its inhabitants.
- Fight in real-time combat and defeat your foes using the Elements wisely to exploit their weaknesses.
- Experience a story about growth and overcoming guilt.
The game's aiming for a June 2022 launch on Switch and other platforms; if you'd like to learn more or back the project, you can visit the Kickstarter page right here.
What do you think? Does Elementallis look like it has potential? Will you be backing the Kickstarter? Let us know in the comments.

The title reminded me instantly of Crystalis, but they plainly weren't aiming for that comparison.
I don't see many new ideas here (that may be the point, of course)... so I cannot say I am interested, at the moment.
Having watched the trailer, I feel like this is a perfect blend of "The Legend of Zelda" and "Mystic Quest Legend" gameplay- and graphics wise. Anyone else feeling this way?
Kickstarter, where chinese like rip offs flourish.
looks generic af
It looks a little generic and bare bones in spots, and heavily based on the GBC Zelda titles in particular.
But it does look like it would be fun.
I'm wary of the promise of a physical release though, since they haven't outlined who or how they will fulfill that.
Seems to look the part in a solid and competent way. I agree, sort of a heavy GBC flavour to it. I'm not sure I would download it and actively go out ot my way (in a backlog) to play it though.
Interested in this
Wow, that looks amazing. But also a lot like Link's Awakening. Let's hope, Nintendo doesn't want to cancel this. :/
A good start but they need to get someone working on level design as it is a bit bland.
@Lando_ Why would they cancel it? It doesn't infringe on any of their copywrites. Just look at Blossom Tales. Its the same idea.
All together now! COPIED
More Zelda is always good, when done right. Color me interested
Personally, I think we should be careful about openly bashing a game because it's "heavily inspired" by another game. Many readers often complain about hacks using game assets and engine to make a different story, often pointing out that if a developer has the skill they should make their own IP. When a developer makes their heavily inspired game, readers complain that it's lifted from another
@Excalibur_120 I couldn’t put my finger on it initially, but after you said that I totally see the Mystic Quest influence in the graphics.
Looks fun! I like the graphics, and having the items be elements opens lots of possibilities gameplaywise. I just hope it has a good story.
Looks interesting, but after being burned by Blossom Tales I’m wary.
I'll buy a good Zelda clone any day of the week!
You can use other words than super.
I'm interested in this upcoming Elementallis game (as well as Xbox's Tunic) in terms of 2D "Zelda-likes"...
... but 3D Dot Game Heroes & Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King set the standard for 2D Zelda homages imo... need sequels to those too btw.
... Wun can only hope.
@Excalibur_120 @BloodNinja
Yea so far Elementallis looks like 2D Zelda x Final Fantasy Mystic Quest x Secret of Mana to me.
Fingers-crossed it has it's own unique appeal to and turns out well!
... Wun can only hope.
Funny, I released "The Elementalist" on Steam in May 2019... TBH my version is more an homage to the first LoZ but guess they had a similar vision to my own, though I didn't give my wizard a sword, that's cheating!
Looks like fun. I'll gamble a few quid on that.
These types of games are the reason why I just replay zelda games.
No disrespect to developers, but if I have time to play, it’s going to be the best games I can. A rehash of a great game, which one do I play. Just played through lbtw and I almost forgot how awesome it is.
I will admit I was initially disappointed when the lovely splash art changed into well done but slightly generic pixel art. But the concept looked cool, especially chaining the elements together, so it won me back over.
Those tiny characters and huge landscapes... I don´t how to feel about this one. I really want a Zelda-like to be good, but I don´t know if this will be the case.
Some of these knock-offs posing as "tributes to" or "love letters to" a given franchise are better than others, but the harsh truth is there's a glut of them on the market currently. While pretty much NONE of them come close to the combination of game design, production values, or sheer scope of the products they try to emulate, for awhile they had enough appeal to sell some copies. But personally I believe we've reached a point of saturation where unless a project REALLY stands out (especially AFTER the final reviews come in), most of these games are going to be ignored. There are just too many of them, and too many better games jockeying for hobbyists' time and money.
Looks great, I absolutely adore the Game Boy Zeldas! Too bad the music isn't on par with Zelda.
Glad for those that helped with the Kickstarter. I rarely do Kickstarters. Two have delivered, still waiting on the third (I won’t name names, but at this point I have mostly given up).
This might be excellent, but I generally prefer games clearly inspired by Nintendo to play with the art style a bit. My favorite example is Ittle Dew. It's clearly a love letter to Zelda... but they played with the art, music, and design to make something unique and different.

This looks ALMOST like sprites cut/pasted from GBC Zelda games.
Look, I understand that some game developers get excited about creating something - anything. But do we really need another inferior clone of A Link to the Past?
I mean.. they could have body created something new instead of a literal Zelda clone.
Hey look, hearts for health, green bar for magic, almost identical sprites for pots, blocks, terrain.. enemies that are "not keese" there's "not mt doom" and the "not master sword".
At least blossom tale tried to be it's own thing.
There's "tribute" and then there's "legally enough pixels in each sprite to not technically be stealing... Wink". And this ain't no tribute.
Now if my KS support goes through I'll be happy....
