If Nintendo was smart, assuming the NX is actually as powerful as a PS4, they be making a deal with Sony to allow PSVR support on the NX. Nintendo gets to participate in the hot new thing, with little hard investment, Sony gains another selling point for the device. The only real hardware investment Nintendo would need is for a USB adapter for the Playstation camera. It's a win all the way around!
Not to date myself, but I remember, as a kid, the dream of E.T. and Gizmo going on an adventure together. I am astonished that it is actually happening! Toss in The A-Team, Goonies, and Knight Rider packs, and I'ma gonna have to bust out that Time-Life: Sounds of the Eighties collection!
I can see this happening. Sell the portable separately, and have two skus for the console, one with and one without the portable (with a big sticker on the cheaper sku, noting that you have to have the portable). Or, sell the portable, only have one console skus that also includes a portable, and tell people that they now have two usable controllers for the NX (I'm assuming that the portable portion will act as a Gamepad style controller, and that the NX will support at least 2 (probably 5)).
Really starting to wonder if it's not time for an industry standard for consoles. I can see more benefits than negatives.
The big three would be able to focus on actual innovations, instead of reinventing the wheel every few years. SAves them money, because they aren't trying to outdo each other's consoles. Publishers & Developers wouldn't have to worry about porting to different consoles, only optimizing for the OS and any accessories needed.
For consumers, it would open the potential to have a single console, but access to all three ecosystems. Choose between an XBox Gold, PS Plus, or NX subscription to utilize their OS and network. If you want, subscribe to more than one.
Be able to use the controller of your choice with the system of your choice (barring, of course, needed specialty accessories).
Provides impetus for the companies to finally enable cross-network play and/or purchases.
My first thought when Nintendo announced NX was that it would be released in 2016. I can, not only, believe the rumored release date, but also the targeted number of sales. The big question is: What is NX?
What if the NX is not an individual item, but the name of a platform?
Take the Wii U, update the hardware to PS4 level (or a bit beyond) specs. Add in the New 3DS, and it's successor hardware (which will also remain touchscreen based). Now wrap them up with a unified, scalable OS, along with unified, account based, digital purchases.
Now, the home console is capable of utilizing more than one Gamepad, the new 3DS would be capable of acting as a Gamepad, and Nintendo releases a cellphone and/or tablet hardware add-on, so that you can use your own device as a Gamepad. New 3DS would also have bi-directional streaming capabilities.
The system launches with the entire Wii, Wii U, and DS/3DS library available for play. The updated spec allow easier porting of 3rd party titles, with Nintendo not stressing required use of the Gamepad.
Since the hardware is mainly updating the parts, it wouldn't take much to switch the production lines quietly. It comes in at a slightly cheaper price point for each individual item. Announce at E3, finish presentation with release date of 7/1/16, pre-orders go live when buzz is at it's hottest.
Since new 3DS is on NX platform, it counts for NX sales. 20 million sales in 12 months between the two products, easy.
The first one was fun. I wouldn't mind some co-op play this time. Be easier to help my kids level up, and only seeing other people's restaurants was boring. Hope they got creative with some new worlds to visit. And the item drops could be a bit better.
Not like I won't end up buying 3 copies if it's exactly the same, though. sigh
Personally, I really think Nintendo screwed up on the implementation. The RFID should have been programmed to fill out stats that were upgraded in different games. Fighting, Driving, Luck, Accuracy, etc. Then, to max out your Amiibo, you'd need to tap it in Brawl, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Splatoon, etc. Gives an impetus to buy more games to use your Amiibo in.
Instead, we have a system where you have to delete data to use a figure in more than one game that writes to the figure. Between that, and Splatoon locking content behind the figures, its really turned me off.
Is there any word on whether the Speedway mechanics are also available in the Toybox, so that users can create their own tracks, or is it just the pre-done mini-game?
Seriously, though, it would be awesome if they stripped out the innards of a Wiimote, and updated a Power Glove for the event. Even better if they did it and included Boom Blox in the competition.
This would be a great game to introduce with a smartphone/tablet companion app. Allow the user to create a level on the app to upload to the Wii U to play later. Hell, let the user create/change a level on the fly while someone is playing the level! Talk about competitive Mario.
First off, I have to say that I absolutely love the fact that they used the original Kenner Landspeeder toy as the base model (you can tell from the button on the front of the landspeeder). That's attention to detail.
I don't mind the idea of DI3.0 being split between Star Wars and Disney Originals, but I sincerely hope that the devs will make sure that there are add-on playsets for both halves of the game. If not, at least open up the playsets, after initial completion, for all characters.
I always found Club Nintendo somewhat confusing. Earning coins to get to Gold or Platinum, but it only lasted a set amount of time, but spending coins didn't make you lose coins, but sometimes it did. Then there were the rewards that would be sold out almost as soon as they were available.
And if I'm wrong with that description, it goes to show how confusing it was/is!
Hopefully, whatever comes next will be more straightforward, and whatever rewards are offered will be available in large enough amounts that members will have a realistic chance to earn them.
"...What inspired me the most was an experience I had with a ***********. My brother had one at his place and when hanging out, we often played with it, and I completely loved it."

2) Crossbuy
3) My Pipe Dream update - Replace the Mii Plaza with Nintendoland, add in temporary "exhibits" to showcase whatever MiiVerse communities they want (just like the current plaza), as well as "exhibit" space for all eShop purchases, Wii mode, and Disc games.
I think the general idea of Amiibos is fine, and I like the idea of having different sculpts based on different games, however the concept that a Smash Bros figure won't have the same functionality in MK8 as an MK8 figure sort of defeats the purpose of making them cross game compatible.
They should be selling based on the idea that people will want to buy multiples of the same character because they like the new sculpt, not because "well, this is the one that goes with this game". They're going to run into problems when the masses figure out that cross-game compatibility does not equal full compatibility.
Sweet! Too bad I already have three out of the four NA offerings. Not going to complain, though. Might be nice having Pikmin 3 or Wii Party U on a hard drive.
Hope they go a different direction from what they did with Lego Lord of the Rings. Level design was a bit confusing, but, more importantly, using the vocals from the films really put a damper on the "fun" aspect of the game. Hard to get into silly visuals when the character is speaking in grave tones about grave happening.
@DStroke @Cesco Thanks for the insight. Not the answer I would have preferred, but not a deal breaker. I'll still give a try if it ever comes to the US.
I don't agree with pressuring Nintendo on this point, too much. While I understand the desire to have more playable female characters in games, this series has always been about Link. Though, showing Zelda in a stronger light throughout the story would be great. Perhaps acknowledgement that she's been working on, and making headway towards, freeing herself, while you/Link have been trying to save her. Make a game with her as the main character, maybe Zelda's Quest, sure. But pushing to make her playable in a Legend of Zelda game? No.
On the other hand, pressuring Nintendo to make sure that all future Mario games that have selectable characters include either Peach or Daisy, or both, as options? That I can get behind completely. Who says a Princess can't have her best friend rescue her?
Any chance that Wii U reviews can start incorporating a breakdown of control options, particularly for single player modes? It was great to see that there is a multiplayer mode with one on the Gamepad, the rest on the Wii Remotes, but is that also true for regular head-to-head? Is single player Gamepad only, or can it be played with the Wii Remote, like previous entries?
This was a great review, but with the various controllers on the Wii U, I think this might be an aspect to look at.

Re: Poll: Is Nintendo's Wii U Advertising and Marketing Doing Enough?
They should do a campaign riffing on the Wii's "We would like to play" campaign.
Door opens, two Japanese men are standing there with Wii remotes in hand.
"We would like to play.."
Slight waggle to the Wii remotes.
"...with you!"
They hand the door opener a Gamepad.
Spotlight some asynchronus multi-player, Nintendoland, Wii Party U, etc.
The Japanese men start to look tired. The door opener asks if they want to play another round.
"We need a break. We would like to watch television. You play now."
Door opener uses the Gamepad to switch the television input to a tv show, then sits down and starts to play. Camera closes in to show Super Mario 3D.
logo screen
The new Wii U - available now.
Also compaitible with Wii games and accesories
logo screen fades to the two Japanese men facing the camera, outside the front door
"We would like to play..."
They hold up Wii remotes
"...with you!"
They hold up the game pad and Wii U console.
Here ya go Reggie. No cash needed, but let's have a sit down about a a game idea.
