Re: Weird And Wonderful Zelda-Like 'Eastward' DLC Listing Spotted

Leostacks

@ElRoberico If I were to take a less judgy stab at it, the combination of the gameplay, the intrigue the story builds, the zelda like gameplay, and the mother-like graphics stew into something of a nostalgia and critical stew that garnered the game some positive buzz. It helps it was hyped up more than the usual Indie game that isn't too dissimilar to this game, and being published by the same folks who published Stardew Valley gave it some more notice.

But yeah, plenty of folks found the sluggish pacing of the story to be a deal breaker, as it did with me. Nice little game but didn't get anywhere interesting fast enough, and the moment to moment gameplay wasn't doing anything innovative to keep me going between the massive amount of unskippable dialogue. I know folks like to use Earthbound as a possible inspiration for the game but go back and play that game, folks didn't talk nearly as much as they do in something like this unless it was part of a joke about run on sentences.

Re: Hands On: Theatrhythm Final Bar Line Feels Like A Perfectly Tuned Final Fantasy Celebration

Was the Supreme difficulty tier added in the arcade version? I was surprised to see it when I loaded up the demo, and even more surprised at how ridiculously hard it was.

The controls definitely take some getting used to, but up to the third difficulty tier (aka the hardest in the 3ds version), I was able to handle it just fine. Then going up to 4, having to hold one long note while hitting multiple single and directional notes, felt like patting my head and rubbing my belly.

The extra songs alone and the ability to play on switch would've made it worth it for me, the need to relearn the game on these controls would've added fake-longevity but longevity nonetheless. The new quest mode made like the Kingdom Hearts rhythm game's quest mode is a nice touch, making it less random and more set is good too. But the absurd lurch in difficulty makes it must for me. That and it was a better Dry-January at the bar I work at than I anticipated.

Re: Review: Risk of Rain 2 - Rough 'Early Access' Edges Can't Spoil This Rewarding Roguelike

Leostacks

@EvilLucario I've played in handheld mode exclusively, and while it seems to over just under/at 30, it holds statically and has never jumped for me.

I feel rather let down that this game seemed to be designed with the multiplayer in mind. All too often, I get blind sided by enemies I couldn't have possibly seen coming, and the surge of enemies summoned by the teleporter seems pretty unreasonable. Kind of ruins playing portably for me, but damn it all if it still isn't pretty fun to play.

Re: Nintendo Tells Fans To Tune Into The Game Awards Tomorrow, Reveals Incoming?

Leostacks

Weird thought: Whatever you announce here, also give us something we hadn't heard of. I wanted to hear more about Daemon Ex Machina because it seemed fun and unlike what they already put out. Much as I love the series' that they put out, I'm more drawn to refreshing new ideas (hence why I loved Return of the Obra Dinn, and would love it if that got a Switch port for the folks who can't play it on PC; sadly I wouldn't buy it again, any one who played it knows it has virtually no replay value once you beat it).

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

Leostacks

Once companies started withholding bonuses to developers based on metacritic scores (looking at your Bethesda), regardless of how well the game sold, I think we had hit the point where they should be done away with. But I think a score doesn't do as well of a job explaining if a game is good to someone than the content of the actual review. I've been reading a lot of positive reviews of Spiderman for PS4, and people keep positively comparing it to Arkham Knight, a game I thought was very bland. But I guess I'm pro literacy; anything that'll get folks reading reviews more and limiting comments like "THE HELL? YOU ONLY GAVE THIS AN 8?!?!?!"

@Scrummer Seriously, one of the most entertaining experiences I've had with a video game in years and the site doesn't even acknowledge it much.

Re: Review: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS)

Leostacks

@thesilverbrick I like this site, particularly for news and eshop updates, but I've felt it's just a little too sycophantic when it comes to reviews, and also seems to go very far out of its way to not criticize anything. The reviews themselves are always written well, but the scores are always higher than average. Case in point, giving Axiom Verge a 10. It kind of devalues what a perfect score is if you keep throwing them out.

Re: Nintendo Wants Everyone In Your House To Have Their Own Switch

Leostacks

Granted I don't live with them anymore, but both my brother and sister have a Switch of their own, as do I. It'll be a stupid photo op on Thanksgiving.

With that being said, shameless marketing and sales pitch aside, I'm with them on bringing people together for local multiplayer. Overwatch was the last game I'll ever play online, being a harbinger of everything I can't stand about AAA gaming (shallow story, lootboxes, anemic single player if it's there in the first place, being forced to play with folks I don't know).

Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Are Trending Well Above Wii U, and Could Even Catch the Wii

Leostacks

I don't know if it could catch up to the Wii, it felt like more of a game system and less of a fad like the wii was (not to knock the system, I preferred the virtual console there, and the system had some fun games and backwards compatability). Unless something with insane mass appeal beyond gamers like Wii Sports comes along, coupled with something that makes it appealing to folks not interested in gaming at all (I seem to recall a lot of folks using their Wii's as their primary netflix streaming device; maybe some emerging app or industry we haven't seen yet can thrive on the Switch). Refreshingly, I think it may do better than the Xbox one and hopefully catch up to the ps4, as the switch seems to fill a better niche than the other two (fun games with lower cost of entry for developers in an age where tech is prioirtized over innovation and fun).

Side note, maybe it's because I live in New York City, but I seem to have zero problem stumbling upon Switches. Each store has a few on hand, and the Nintendo World store gets them every day.

Re: Review: Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)

After the relatively bad year 2016 was for games (and everything really), it's good to see a good chunk of quality releases for every system.

Now if bethesda would just release Wolfenstein 2 for the switch now....

Re: Mutant Mudds Collection Will Support Video Capture

Leostacks

As much as I love the original, it being the game that started my love of Indie developed games, it's not an entirely exciting game to watch videos of, and there's little that can be done with capturing like the crazy zelda videos that have been popping up.

Unless this is some precursor to nintendo allowing it for all titles, in which case, sure why not.

Re: Review: FIFA 18 (Switch)

Leostacks

Considering I never play online, I didn't care for the story mode at all, and all I wanted to do was run the franchise mode until I got bored, it's an instant buy.

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th September (North America)

Leostacks

Already downloaded Deemo (looooooved Voez) and golf story, I'll pick a few more of these up next week when I'm not spending so much at once. Fifa physical is coming in.

Until the switch came along, I hadn't built a library of games (not counting steam) since the GBC. It's pretty nuts that I already have 12 physical games for the system and a ton more digital.

Re: Rumour: Source Who Leaked L.A. Noire Switch Port Drops Hint That Grand Theft Auto V Is Next

Leostacks

GTA 5 came out right around the time I grew disdainful of being home, which made me dislike console gaming. It would be nice to play this again if I'm not tethered to my house.

But let's be honest: if the rumor is true, they're putting this out because it's one of the highest selling games of the last few years, and they're well aware there's a contingent of Nintendo fans who never got a chance to play it.

Re: Random: Sports Stars Just Can't Get Enough Of The Nintendo Switch

Leostacks

Mainstream console gaming on my ps4 began to lose my interest right around the time I became far more serious about fitness and long distance running, so the Switch has been a godsend (much like my 3ds was before it). Strap on my running bag, throw my switch in, run 15km's away from my apartment, play switch on the trip home. It's definitely been a great motivator to leave the house, odd is it may seem.

Re: Switch Versions Of Oceanhorn And forma.8 Outsell Console Rivals

Leostacks

I have gotten well over half of the indie games they've released on switch so far. The fact that I'm never home (work two jobs, very physically active, commute on subway lines) means the switch suits my life much better than steam or ps4 had, and thus I'm willing to give anything even remotely amusing a chance. So keep them coming, you'll get at least one sale from me (eyes rogue legacy and nuclear throne, hopes for a port).

Re: It's "A Bit Sad" That Switch Isn't More Powerful, Says THQ Nordic

Leostacks

I'm not sure why developers are even making a big deal out of this. To me it sounds like a giving them an underhanded pitch in an age when game development has become prohibitively expensive. But no, you have comments like this or comments like "porting our game to the system is laughable" from the guys who made Titan fall 2 (which I loved, but considering that game didn't do well...).

I guess the major publishers have to tow the line with Sony and microsoft and blindly spout how graphics and power equal good, even though the Wii and the 3ds have proved that wrong.

Re: Rainway Developer Shows App In Action On Nintendo Switch

Leostacks

@TommyRabbit from what I understand, Tobyfox wants to release it for Nintendo consoles but would have to redevelop the game from the ground up (it was made via gamemaker, which Nintendo doesn't support). Unless Sony signed some exclusivity deal, it's not totally hopeless if someone lends him a hand.

Re: Nintendo Announces Super NES Classic Edition

Leostacks

If I don't have to break an arm and a leg to get one (Nintendo world here in New York always gets better stock of intendo products) the I'll get one. Otherwise, considering every game I want from that is already available on the virtual console or on IOS, it's not too appealing
