Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want From A Switch Mini?

Koke

I don't see how they can reduce costs enough to make this viable. Let's assume they cut docking functionality, capping it at 720p. Then integrated "mini" joycon and a reduced bezel so they could use the same screen. But if they do all this, it's no longer a "Switch."

The biggest issue though is price, since they'd need to hit around $180-200 USD for it to make any sense as a 3DS successor. The Japanese My Nintendo store already sells a dockless Switch with joycons for ~$250. I'm really feeling this is just a rumor, at least for the next couple of years.

Re: Feature: Digital vs Physical - What Is Your Preference for Nintendo Switch?

Koke

I prefer physical because the games aren’t as strictly tied to usage rights agreements as digital. With physical, I always have that game, not just as long as a company decides to offer it for redownload, renew licensing rights, or maintain a server. While it may seem silly now to say this since Switch is so young, anyone whose Wii breaks after the eShop goes down will likely understand. Physical is about more than a box.

Re: Indie Devs Explain Why Their Games Are Successful On Nintendo Switch

Koke

At least in Japan, promotion from Nintendo has a lot to do with how successful a game is. I don’t know about other regions but Nintendo of Japan runs a regular indie spotlight article series on their website, as well as YouTube shorts. That combined with floor space in the Nintendo booth at events like BitSummit really increases visibility. Games like Death Squared got that kind of direct publicity.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

Koke

If I encounter a review that does not give a numerical score, not only do I ignore the review text, but I immediately look for a review with a numerical score. A big part of the reason I use this website is that there is a concise summary paragraph with a score at the bottom. During my work week I don’t have time to read a whole article.

All review scores should be taken with a grain of salt, but I read the reviews here because I trust the reviewers.

Re: Soapbox: Let's Give Nintendo Switch Online A Chance Before We Throw It To The Wolves

Koke

I don't mind paying for online and their pricing is more than reasonable. And, if the online-enabled games are promoted as a "bonus" incentive, that's fine.

However, claiming that a trickle feed of classic games is a replacement for a full-featured Virtual Console marketplace is what is making so many people angry. Are the downloads permanently tied to an active subscription or are they yours to "keep" on an offline system? What happens when the service eventually is taken down in the future? Nintendo needs to explicitly address this.

If consumers are to fully embrace downloads as a viable replacement for physical media, there needs to be a lot more longterm transparency on Nintendo's part. Tethering the issue to the online package will only make the issue worse.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Details Of Nintendo Switch Online

Koke

About a month after Nintendo effectively pulled the plug on Wii download purchases, no mention of permanent VC purchases concerns me. Subscription use sounds great now, but how about in 12 years or so when the service ends? There needs to be a purchase option for VC titles.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

If this was 2000 and on the Gamecube, the score would be a 1/10 and a developer would have gotten fired for not meeting deadlines. Funny how updates changed everything.
