I may be old fashioned, but I would never even consider buying a download version of a physical release game. When game companies stopped putting manuals and inserts inside, it just seemed cheap and stingy to me. So, happiness might not be the right word for when a publisher includes something that should be there in the first place.
Sounds a lot like they are reviewing the genre, not Yooka-Laylee. Like, if we review Mario 3 in 2017 ... "This game struggles so hard to be fun, but we have 3 dimensions now, not 2. Unless you like jumping and moving sideways in one direction, you are better off playing a more complex game that embraces the past couple decades of hardware improvements."
I don't know about you guys, but I am reserving my opinion on Yooka-Laylee until I actually play it after seeing the tone those reviews took.
I would have played if I didn't get an error message every time I tried to connect to a match. So, I guess the menu music is nice? Hopefully Nintendo will get its act together with servers before the game actually comes out.
@ luke88 If you're looking to pick up a console, my best advice is to check Amazon regularly. During the preorder phase, they had units available at pretty random times, despite being sold out almost all of the time. Yodobashi also seems to not put out purchase cards for all of their stock either. I got the Link Archer amiibo this week by asking at the counter.
@Luke88 I'm in Kansai. Bic Camera is doing the lottery. As to accessories, I have yet to see a Pro Controller or a colored JoyCon in a store. The amiibo are possible to find, except Zelda and the Guardian. Nintendo and Hori cases are all sold out everywhere. Lots of apology signs next to displays.
I don't know anyone who got a console who didn't preorder it. The demand seems to be very high though, since many people are looking at displays and asking staff about stock whenever I'm in a store.
I live in Japan and the sales numbers this week are because there are no more Switches on store shelves. A lot of the games and almost all of the licensed accessories are sold out too. A couple major electronics stores say they're getting a shipment in on the 19th, but are holding a lottery to see who can buy a console.
The prices listed on Amazon are for the cheapest 3rd party seller, since Amazon's direct preorders sold out last week. These prices are all really inflated. The official Hori prices are much lower.
The preorders in Japan at retailers sold out on the 21st pretty soon after they opened. Later in the day a lot of major online news sites started advertising the Nintendo site opening on the 23rd. I was only trying to get a case off My Nintendo and it had crashed almost instantly. I can't say I'm surprised, though.
I live in Japan and ordered mine today. The confirmation email said the systems will ship from late July to the end of August, with those purchasing first receiving first. It's nice they are making numbers that match demand instead of producing a small number for scalpers to grab up.

Whoever writes the update explanations at Nintendo ... I want their job!
Re: Florida Officials Ban Inflatable Mario And Maybe Even Freedom of Speech
Neither Santa nor the Easter Bunny have a documented history of jumping on people's heads or habitual mushroom consumption.

Re: Random: Japanese Kid Crafts Cardboard Nintendo Switch After Mother Refuses To Buy Him One
@ThatNyteDaez If Nintendo now responds to cow-milking challenges, this kid definitely has a chance.

Nintendo needs to give this kid a Switch. He's earned it.

Re: Talking Point: The DLC Expansion Pass for Zelda: Breath of the Wild is Both Surprising and Inevitable
At least with amiibo, you get something tangible with your DLC. I don't know why they don't just add it that way. It's a lot less offensive.

Yay, they used normal screws! Not triwing or gamebit or any other nonsense.
