Re: Sonic Colors: Ultimate Has Received A New 'Celebration' Update On Switch

Knuckles

@BlueOcean Message was said to be too long, breaking it into two parts.

It's Sonic 06, not Sonic 05, and I'm not sure I'd want to see it remastered simply due to the troubled history. The game was supposed to have Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge, Omega, Silver, Amy, Blaze, and even Metal Sonic with their own full Sonic Adventure 1 like stories. If you start to fix the games and repair the content, then where do you stop? Several missions are still within the game's code, just disabled. And then items, take the Gems, they were supposed to have a functioning energy meter, but that's just broken and allows for infinity uses? Do you restore the meter to intended functionality, or leave it in because that's how the world has known it for almost 16 years?

Sonic 06 is a can of worms to properly remaster and will likely never get the full gameplay remaster it needs, even from fans who are remaking the game. The story is still a mess, content is an absolute mess with the game. At one point, I wanted it remastered too, but at that point, why not just make a brand new game? It would almost be as much work.

Speaking for the sales figures of Sonic Colors Ultimate, the Switch version likely sold the best. Sonic games tend to sell the best on Nintendo platforms, regardless of how the game plays.

As for other Sonic games, 3D Sonic and bad cameras go together like Super Mario and Best Seller.

Sonic Generations was already hitting 60fps on PC back in 2011, and while I don't have a 4K display to check, I wouldn't be surprised if the game could hit 4K resolution with a proper monitor and graphics card. I wouldn't want to rebuy a port of Sonic Adventure 1 or 2 on anything other than PC, and that's entirely because of community support for the games. Sonic Adventure DX on Steam is a butchered port Sonic Adventure DX on 360/PS3 is a butchered port of Sonic Adventure DX on PC, which is a butchered port of Sonic Adventure DX from GameCube. I said butchered a lot of times, I know, but they took away visual elements from the games, added in new bugs, it's just not done well. And what's to stop them from doing it right this time? The solid almost 10 years of Sega rereleasing Sonic Adventure DX, and doing it worse each time. History has not been kind to the releases of that game. There are plenty of community mods though that restore the game back to the way it originally was on GameCube, or Dreamcast if you prefer that.

Sonic Adventure 2 also got a 360/PS3/PC port. The code for the 360/PS3 version is good, but the PC version is a mess internally. This is the version a port of Sonic Adventure 2 would likely be based off of for future games, and considering how it hasn't been rereleased on any PlayStation, or Nintendo console for a new version, probably not happening outside of 360 Backwards Compatibility anytime soon. Fans continue to work on this one, and have a nice amount of mods for it, but the mod loader can be a mess due to how bad the code for the PC version is. The game is not a buggy mess, but under the surface, it's barely held together.

Re: '90s Sonic The Hedgehog Cartoons Speeding Onto Blu-ray

Knuckles

@BlueOcean You're asking me to pick between my children here, lol. Most of the shows hold a special place in my heart.

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, the first cartoon I watched for Sonic, absolutely loved it as a kid, would set an alarm to take up at 5AM to watch it on TV, since that was the only time it would play for me. It's Looney Tunes Sonic, lots of fun, even today.

Sonic the Hedgehog (SATAM) A Darker Sonic series where Robotnik has already taken over the world, and Sonic with the Freedom Fighters try to take it back. Early Archie Comic readers would love this, since the show inspired Archie's Sonic comic line. Still love the theme song, I enjoyed the plots, shame it didn't get more episodes. A different yet good take on Sonic.

Sonic Underground, easily my least favorite just for growing out of it. It's primarily aimed at really young children with music numbers at least once per episode. Set in a universe similar to SATAM where Robotnik has already won, it's not exactly a tonal mismatch, but the lighthearted nature would have worked better with Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog's world instead.

Sonic X, perhaps the most famous Sonic TV show, it's an anime from Japan that brought Sonic Adventure 1 and 2's stories to life during the 2nd Season. The 4Kids Dub changed several things, and cut some scenes, made some things shorter. In the Sonic Adventure 2 story, they actually played Live and Learn in the Japanese version. Sonic X holds a lot of nostalgia for me, but I'm not sure I'd call it my favorite.

Sonic Boom, admittedly haven't watched more than an episode or two, but I've seen the memes, and it's a good show. Quality cartoon and writing. I'd say one complaint about it being 3D Rendered is that Sonic always seemed a bit slow to me, like they never got the effects right fit him to be going really fast.

Sonic Prime: Hasn't aired yet, not sure.

Special Mention: Sonic The Movie, the 1996(Japan)/1999(International) Anime OVA special. This was easily my favorite Sonic cartoon growing up, with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Metal Sonic, the song Look-a-Like is still enjoyable today. It's a fun show.

So, the Sonic OVA is my favorite overall, in terms of Cartoon, I would have said SATAM a few years ago, but I forgot how good Looney Tunes Sonic was, so going with Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog for my favorite Sonic cartoon, and to break the rules, I'll list Sonic X as my favorite Sonic Anime.

Re: '90s Sonic The Hedgehog Cartoons Speeding Onto Blu-ray

@BlueOcean The Sonic Cartoon was originally aired on ABC, and Jaleel White was their golden boy. He saved Family Matters from cancellation, and he was becoming a rising star from several different appearances in movies and shows. The show runners for Sonic decided they would pitch Jaleel White as the voice for Sonic due to his popularity with ABC in a hope the show would be greenlit.

Now for another daily Sonic fact, the show they approved would go on to be known as Sonic the Hedgehog (SATAM). There was a creative disagreement over the direction of the show, and ABC almost backed out. Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and SATAM came about as the result of those differences. That's why two Sonic cartoons were airing at the same time in the early 90s.

Re: Pokémon Legends Players Will Get Some Extra Goodies If They Have Sword & Shield And Let's Go Save Files

Knuckles

@Bobb Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been seriously paying attention to this game until recently, but wanted to reply.

Unless specified, when a game says it requires the game data of another game, it just looks at the save data on the console to see what's there. All you would need to do is boot the game, not even to the title screen in some instances, and then you have save data on the Switch.

If a friend has one of the Pokemon games physically, you'd literally just need to pop it in your system for a minute. If no friends have it, you could ask at stores like Gamestop if you can just verify the cartridge works. There's a few different ways to get the save data without buying the game.

Re: Modernised 'Panda' GameCube Controller Hits Kickstarter, Instantly Smashes Goal

Knuckles

@DevinRex

"No Bluetooth support built in. Meaning you have to use a wire to play on Switch. Or pay an unknown price for the rumored addon." - On the Kickstarter page, add the controller to your cart, you'll see the pricing options for the add ons. Wireless pack, which is Bluetooth for Switch and PC, is 30 dollars.

"$90 for the "base model"" - The features this controller offers, if modded to a regular GameCube controller, would be roughly 200-300 dollars. This is intended to serve as an elite controller instead of a standard controller.

"No price given for add-ons." - See my first comment. Off the top of my head, 30 for wireless add on, 25 for the travel case, and 20 for the Pro Shell.

""Just trust us dude" marketing." - Panda Global is a grassroots organization within the Smash Community, they started out small and slowly expanded. They have been developing the controller for the last 3 years, much to the annoyance of those who wanted updates and to know more on the progress of the controller. Now, they're ready to go live with it, have uploaded at least 3 videos about it, breaking down how it works. Controller is polled for inputs 2,000 times per second, and has built in adjustments to be fine tuned for issues such as snapback. At the end of the day, it is "just trust us" marketing until it can be independently verified, after all companies fake videos all the time. However, a company really shouldn't spend 5-6 years building trust within a community and then try to scam them for cash. That's how the brand never recovers, which is the exact opposite of how Panda has been operating.

"Hard pass. I'll wait for reviews and the eventual bargain bin price drop." - Entirely your choice, just don't expect it to drop to bargain bin prices. This isn't a Hori or PDP Controller, it's not going to be worth 10 dollars. It's a premium GameCube controller for those in the market for one, for those already willing to pay at times 500 dollars for a controller with extra features primarily to play a 20 year old platform fighter.

In case anyone else is curious how to perform the Bow Lift Smuggling Slide, here's a video tutorial. The first three minutes show how it's done, with step by step tips. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfcxrfMjsWc

Oh, and @talllennart, it's not hacked. Just like how Backwards Long Jumping in Super Mario 64 isn't a hack. Might not be intended by the developers, but that doesn't make it a hack.

Re: Random: We've Been Wrong About This Streets Of Rage Special Move For Almost 30 Years

Knuckles

@russell-marlow I do not think we are getting more DLC, but probably a balance patch or two down the line. One the the main people responsible for SOR4 said on Twitter it was time for Lizardcube to brave new horizons, https://mobile.twitter.com/BenFiquet/status/1417518653189365762 , and as much as I would love more content, there is a great Streets of Rage game here.

Personally, I think we will see Streets of Rage 5 in the next 5-10 years. The story reason behind the newly added Survival Mode is that it takes place after SOR4's main story, and the characters want to be prepared for anything that could come their way next. I know that's grasping at straws, but I'd be disappointed if we never got to see the results of their training.

Re: Random: We've Been Wrong About This Streets Of Rage Special Move For Almost 30 Years

Knuckles

@Joriss "Hishousouzan", and I believe it's pronounced something like "Hi-shous-ouzan". In case you were curious, her offensive Special is called Kikou Shou, but this is a lot easier to hear.

@Mach_Rider If you played Streets of Rage 3 growing up, then you did hear Bare Knuckle, as Axel says that instead of Grand... well, I guess now Ground Upper in the English version. In SOR2 though, it was still the same sound clip between all regions.

Re: Hands On: Streets Of Rage 4's Mr. X Nightmare DLC Is A Dreamy Add-On

Knuckles

@bimmy-lee I thought you had to hold Up and B once the boss battle ended to unlock Roo? You can just do it on the title screen in SoR3? If that's true, I think I combined the two unlock methods in my head. No wonder I thought you would never encounter it in normal gameplay. I've also spent the last week wondering how anyone knew to do that at the title screen.

Also, thanks for showing how to do spoiler bars. I haven't used them in years here and just forgot the formatting.

Re: Hands On: Streets Of Rage 4's Mr. X Nightmare DLC Is A Dreamy Add-On

Knuckles

@bimmy-lee I have a question about your two methods, but will experiment with spoiler brackets below before I ask. Question will be edited in shortly.

I am only aware of unlocking Roo in Streets of Rage 3 from his boss fight. What other methods are there, and why would you try Up+B and Start on the game's title screen?

Re: Hands On: Streets Of Rage 4's Mr. X Nightmare DLC Is A Dreamy Add-On

Knuckles

@John_Koshiro In case you didn't know, both Streets of Rage 2 and 3 Skate are unlockables as Retro Fighters in the game. They announced this over a year ago in a trailer, so the animation you love is in the game.

The developers said that they couldn't add Skate back and have him be the way everyone remembered in the new art style. The game takes place 10 years after the original, and he wouldn't be the small fighter of the previous two games. He would have grown since then, and they didn't think it would reflect his playstyle properly on a fighter of Adam or Axel's size.

Re: Hands On: Streets Of Rage 4's Mr. X Nightmare DLC Is A Dreamy Add-On

Knuckles

@HamatoYoshi Your theory falls apart when you consider Microsoft has 2 active storefronts with this DLC, Xbox and Windows Store, Steam has the DLC, as well as GOG, Epic, and likely any other store selling the content. So, was it Sony that paid a publisher off to delay Switch owners from giving that publisher more money, was it any of the other hosts, or perhaps the chance that Dotemu is telling the truth and there is a technical issue? Don't cut yourself with Occam's razor.

Re: Hands On: Streets Of Rage 4's Mr. X Nightmare DLC Is A Dreamy Add-On

Knuckles

@bimmy-lee About the spoiler comment, it's not something you would find in regular gameplay. I'm not 100% sure if it was added as part of the game update like Training Mode or you needed to purchase the DLC for it, since I already owned the DLC on PC when I learned about it. I don't remember how to do spoiler brackets here, but you would not get that through regular gameplay.

Edit: Read a few more articles, you need the DLC purchased for this to work.

Re: Sonic Origins Spin Dashes To "The Latest Platforms" Next Year

Knuckles

@Pandy "I hope Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles is playable"

Footage is shown of Hyper Sonic, a form you can only unlock from playing Sonic 3 & Knuckles, so it's practically confirmed that you can play Sonic 3 & Knuckles. It's an important distinction seeing as some previous collections have only allowed for Sonic 3 or Sonic & Knuckles.

Re: Random: Say Hello To The Wii SPii Portable, A GBA-Sized Console

Knuckles

@GMACGAMER1234 Considering how it's not for sale, it wouldn't have preinstalled games in the first place. However, seeing the size of the handheld, it would most likely use a MicroSD card, which at large enough capacities can hold multiple Wii games. This is assuming of course that you've made copies of your own Wii games and placed them on the SD Card.

Re: Talking Point: The Problem With The X Button

Knuckles

@Roam85 One for jump and the homing attack, one for the Spindash and Lightspeed Dash.

In regards to the Dreamcast button placement, Sega had already committed on their ABXY placement back with the Genesis, with the 6 Button Controller having the buttons go ABC on the bottom row, and XYZ on the top, and continued this with the Saturn. They only dropped the C and Z buttons on the Dreamcast Controller.

Re: Video: Square Enix Shows Off Balan Wonderworld's Local Co-Op Mode

Knuckles

@DragotheKomodo Thanks for the explanation. As someone who grew up playing the Genesis Sonic games, I'm quite used to having multiple buttons mapped to the same action. I'll admit though, I found 6 buttons being mapped a little more funny than the Genesis Sonic games' 3 buttons for jump.

I do think the game's atmosphere is beautiful, and plan on picking it up at some point regardless of how it reviews. I'm just hoping for the game goes over well. Based off of the demo, it seems like the Switch will have performance issues compared to other platforms, so I'm not expecting the highest review score from NintendoLife, but I am expecting a fair assessment of the game.
