@Magician I could be reading your message wrong, but the Streets of Rage OST has been printed on Vinyl already. In fact, it's currently available on the UK based, Data Disc's website, and they do ship worldwide with few exceptions. https://data-discs.com/products/streets-of-rage/
@Banjo- Until we hear more official confirmation, or fans rip the engine apart on day 3 after completing the entire collection it's hard, if not impossible to say what is being used for the entire collection. As much as I'd like 5U to be backwards compatible, we'll know for sure around June 23rd.
@RupeeClock Actually, it's at 4 releases of Mania on Switch. Mania Plus was the first stand alone, then the game was eventually rereleased without the Plus content, so it's just Sonic Mania that got bundled with Team Sonic Racing and Sonic Forces, not Sonic Mania Plus.
@samuelvictor I'm picking up the PC version, so I know Knuckles will be modded in shortly. And I'm a sucker for Sonic, so I'll be rebuying an eventual physical version on Switch.
@samuelvictor "Yeah I noticed that Knuckles is not playable in Sonic CD via the Japanese press release. He wasn't in the Whitehead version either. I guess it must be that his glide or climb abilities break the game somehow because of the specific level design or features - maybe the vertical runways? To me, its not a big deal as I mostly like to play as Sonic or Tails, but I understand some people are 100% Knuckles mains, so its a shame."
Quoting for context, it's not Knuckles' unique mechanics that prevent him from being playable in CD, fans got him working in a reverse engineered version of Taxman's Sonic CD on PC with mods. That version of the game ran on Retro Engine 3, Sonic 1 and 2 ran on Retro Engine 4. Mania was on Retro Engine 5, and at the moment, it's not clear if Retro Engine 5U is powering Origins or just Sonic 3 & Knuckles. (Taxman mentioned 5U on Twitter, and with the devmenu enabled on Sonic Mania PC, you can see it's 5, not 5U)
The point I'm attempting to make is, they could have added in Knuckles, the only thing keeping them from doing so would be the time it would actually take to put his code and animations into the game, and then do testing to remove the bugs. Amateurs had this done in months in their free time, I imagine it would take days or a few weeks for an experienced team. However, this comes with the issues that the fans ran into, incorporating a slot for him on the character select screen, moving things around, etc, lots of small changes that add up that SEGA could have just said "No, we aren't giving you permission to add a new character to Sonic CD, just touch up the menus" something like that.
I previously speculated that it had to be due to Knuckles unique mechanics, but much to my surprise, the fans revealed that wasn't an issue for CD. As as someone who loves to play as Knuckles, it sucks, but I have my PC Decompilation I can play whenever that's going to inevitably have all of the Origins features either backported or eventually decompiled as well.
@Mikmoomamimocki It's been confirmed by Sega that the Mobile versions on phones will not be removed. Doesn't impact your ability to redownload it, but you won't need to go into your downloads/purchases to find it at the very least.
@Nintendofanatic94 Attached in a screenshot from Sega's official website, stating the game is Digital Only. https://imgur.com/a/3iCnBFm
I would love for the game to be physical, but when Sega's PR reps state there are no plans for physical release at this time, when Sega's official site state it's Digital Only, I don't believe your physical preorder is going to come through. Perhaps something changed behind the scene at some point, but I don't think we are getting a physical edition of the game at launch.
@DonkeyKongBigBoy I understand, I bought the original Collector's Edition for Mania, and then bought Mania Plus physically too. If you're going to hold out instead of double dipping, expect to wait almost a year at least, if you are going off of Mania Plus' release time.
Did you actually get Mania Plus, or one of the Mania rereleases?
@RupeeClock Yeah, the closing eShop was always going to get those two. Makes it more strange that they'd take them down now when they were already going to be unavailable. I know the international release, which was the second 3D Classics collection iirc had Sonic 1, and that it had a digital release on the eShop. Always thought it was a shame the other two collections didn't get international releases, since they had games we didn't get in the west included on them.
@dustinprewitt On Steam, it's sold as one game as part of the Genesis Collection. It's the recommended method for Sonic 3 AIR, a fan project that turns the game into HD with Widescreen, mod support, a boatload of achievements, and what is generally considered the best way to play the game at the moment. Origins may become the best way, but time will tell due to AIR's plethora of options included, and the PC community's tendency to backport these changes as mods into the games.
@DonkeyKongBigBoy As of right now, there is no physical release for Sonic Origins. I'll be buying it physically when and if that ever happens too.
It isn't clear which versions they plan to delist. Perhaps the 3DS eShop versions of Sonic 1 and 2 that M2 made, and the barebones Genesis ports of Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Sonic & Knuckles on PSN and XBLA from the PS360 generation, along with Sonic CD. If they do that, then they will do the same and remove Sonic 1, 2 3&K and CD from Steam.
@RupeeClock If they delist the actual mobile ports, that's really silly on their part. Mobile is the only platform Origins isn't coming to, so it isn't an audience that has a clear method to buy Origins.
@Multi Out of curiosity, did you go to the eShop to download the Octoling Expansion? When Mario Kart's DLC launched, several people missed the fact you needed to still download the DLC from the eShop with their Expansion Pass Content.
@Silly_G Considering how the game has been in development for 4 years, and plays more like a Fire Emblem game, I sort of doubt it. Plus, to make a reference to Arceus, they'd probably use Yggdrasil for Japan and King Drasil for West, since the dub had such a good name for him.
@TheFox I played Freedom Planet and thought it reminded me of Sonic, then I played Sonic Mania a year later and it was clear to me how Freedom Planet is inspired by Sonic, but they are two different experiences. If you can, give the Genesis games a second chance, if only for nostalgia's sake.
@Silly_G It's entirely possible that Discotek could be rereleasing Digimon Adventure in the west, seeing as the original Blu-Rays came out a while ago. Unless I missed something in the announcement, but I didn't see a confirmation that the Subs were using their smoothing method, just the dub because recutting anime like dubbing studios such as Saban and 4Kids takes forever. Fans have already done that for Digimon Adventure using the Blu-Ray, but there is an issue with the Sub Blu-Rays, seeing as the lines are more blurred in general than they should be in 1080p. This quality issue wasn't addressed until Digimon Tamers/Season 3 of Digital Monsters.
@AmplifyMJ It isn't a theory, Jackson's stated reason for leaving, according to Brad Buxer, one of his co-workers at the time, was that Jackson wasn't satisfied with the way his music sounded on the Genesis Soundchip. There has been a lot of information that has come out in the last decade or so on Jackson's involvement in Sonic 3.
@Hikingguy With Nintendo closing the door on new Wii U eShop titles soon, creating games for the hardware might be more difficult in the near future, since the games would need to either somehow be released physically, most likely without Nintendo's assistance and approval, or digitally, which is an issue for systems without modded firmware.
I don't disagree with you that there could be long lasting community support for the Wii U, I just think there will be a bit of a gap as the community develops more tools to work with the Wii U once Nintendo closes the official development doors.
@Kid_Sickarus Very much so a hefty price tag. From what I remember, First 4 Figures has only ever released one Sonic figure at roughly 100 dollars. The 623.99 price is almost feels forced because Sonic 1 released on June 23rd, 6/23. I'm just surprised they didn't put it at 623.91 if they are insisting on referencing the original release date.
@UltimateOtaku91 The GTS for the game was just added recently. Definitely should have been there at launch, but just sharing in case you missed the announcement.
@Joeynator3000 You can play the multiplayer mode with bots, and the online is still active. There's actually a semi-active Discord scene for the game, the online is only mostly dead, but fans have tried to keep it alive.
@DomGC A few of my friends play it, and from what I've gathered, the original writers have left, and the new writers don't know what the story is for updates that released before they were hired.
@FishyS I was actually joking that Nintendo considers that to be enough releases on NSO NES and SNES at the time being. Humorous that you forgot, but I wasn't trying to use it as evidence that Nintendo is supporting the service. If they are, it's being drip fed to hungry audience.
@Leuke A regular NES Mega Man VC Game costs 5 dollars. Here you got all 6 for 5 dollars, and some bonuses too. Can't say anything about the glitches that GameOtaku talked about, I haven't played the game myself.
If you can't afford it right now though, Capcom has been discounting this title down to 5.99 for years, so it likely is not the last time the game will go on sale before the eShop closes.
@Angelic_Lapras_King Surprisingly, it was actually a 6 Disc release, and the 6th disc had an extra 7GB of bonus features not on the original Season 2 Disc 3 Blu-Ray release. File sizes were the same for Season 1 Disc 3, Season 2 Discs 1 and 2. Can't comment on Season 1 Discs 1 and 2 though, quality control seems to have been terrible and the discs came prescratched, 1 and 2 to the point where they couldn't be played/properly read in my computer.
@Scabhead You're right, I confused it with the arcade original being on Wii VC, and a wishlist wanting Revenge of Death Adder back in the Nintendo Power days.
@Rich_Uncle_Skeleton It was on Wii VC, unfortunately, that example is not exactly relevant now. Edit: Ignore me, I confused my VC releases.
Golden Axe II on Genesis was just more of the same, and III was more of the worst. Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder was actually the sequel made by series creator, hence why it had more loved poured into it.
@Rich_Uncle_Skeleton Streets of Rage 1 was actually built using the same engine for Golden Axe, so in a way, Streets of Rage wouldn't exist as we know it without Golden Axe.
Completely agree with you that we need another entry in the series though. Have you ever played the arcade sequel, Revenge of Death Adder?
@aznable NL actually has a downvote button, it just doesn't show the downvotes anymore. At one point, it showed 5+ if at least 5 people downvoting a particular comment.
@ShadowofTwilight22 Somewhat ironically, the use of almost entirely sibling characters from the Fates roster was almost forced. The Siblings, Oboro, Azura, Corrin, and maybe one more, were the only characters with their full portraits drawn. Everyone else only had portraits for the top third or half of their body appear during dialogue. The main artist who drew everyone for Awakening, and I believe Echoes Shadows of Valentia did not have the time to finish drawing the entire cast as of 2018. That's one reason we never had an Art of Fire Emblem Fates book released, like we did for Awakening.
It wouldn't surprise me if Intelligent Systems insisted on only the families being playable, but not having full art for HD models to reference and only having 3DS models to use didn't help with any arguments with expanding the roster.
@Strictlystyles @BloodNinja @Fizza Florida has a law called the Sunshine Law, which states anyone can access public records, which includes arrest records. There are so many Florida Man stories because the news gets access to the crime reports almost as soon as they are filed and available to the public, and the more outlandish ones are ran as news stories. This is different than the news looking into a story they were tipped on, they get the information without having to do much work. That's why we see so many Florida Man/Woman stories.
@FishyS I'm not remotely interested in the game, the price caught my eye, and when I didn't see it described as free to play in the description, I was curious if it was a typo.
Duffmmann is likely correct. I backed up all 6 discs of Sonic Boom on Blu-Ray, both seasons, and each season was roughly 60 GB. Single Layer Blu-Ray is 25GB, Dual Layer is 50GB. The entire series is about 120GBs, and over 5 discs, if they are dual layered, that would be 250GB available.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did two discs of almost the entire season, two discs for the remaining episodes from Seasons 1 and 2, and one disc for the bonus features.
@BlueOcean Yuji Naka chose to leave during the middle of Sonic 06's development. Not after the game was finished. The head of Sonic Team for 15 years left when the team was working on their most difficult project yet. The confusing thing is, he must have left after Sonic Team already split into two during 06's development, when SEGA insisted that Secret Rings be developed for Wii. Interviews about the game's development show that Naka was key in creating the control scheme for Secret Rings, so he must have stayed around into planning for the game at the very least. I can't understand why he would leave when his staff of potentially 15 years would have needed his leadership the most. His departure left Sonic Team without a leader, on top of all of the challenges they were already facing during 06's development. With all of those things in mind, it's easy to see how 06 crashed and burned.
I heard this next thing within the last week, and I haven't been able to verify it yet, but apparently Yuji Naka also took staff from Sonic Team when he left, to hire them at his own company, Prope. If that one is true, then no wonder Sonic Team struggled with 06. The team is already split in half, and more staff keep leaving.
The infamous Sonic Genesis (Sonic 1 GBA) port from 2006 also doesn't have Dimps' name anywhere. You know, the team responsible for every handheld Sonic game from Pocket Adventure until Lost World 3DS. Apparently that terrible port was made in house from Sega or Sonic Team.
You are right that apparently everyone else cares about Sonic more than Sega. Nintendo would never release as many mediocre Mario games as Sega has continued to push Sonic games, knowing they will be bought anyway. But maybe they are trying to get their act together seriously this time. Remember Sonic Origins, the compilation of Sonic 1, 2, 3, & Knuckles + Sonic CD? What if I told you that it's been over a decade since Sega last released Sonic 3? The Steam ROM of Sonic 3 & Knuckles in 2011 was the last time Sonic 3 was released. From every AtGames Mini Console, every Mobile Port, every 3DS port, the Genesis Mini, and when the Sega Ages line on Switch, none of them have Sonic 3. Sonic & Knuckles also got pulled around 2016 from the AtGames Mini consoles. Sonic 3 is arguably Sega's equivalent to Super Mario Bros 3, regarded as the best Sonic game on the Genesis by many, especially when the full game & Knuckles is played. It's speculated that music rights in Sonic 3 with the Michael Jackson estate, and Brad Buxer were up in the air, and Sega could not rerelease the game without having to pay a lot of money from improperly using the music since 1994. My issue is, they spent 10 years without one of the best Sonic titles available to sell, and now it's apparently fixed? Nintendo would have never let that happen to Mario, they would have paid up a settlement amount and been free to release their game going forward. Sega could have ported that game 4 more times easily, and collected almost free money from it.
@BlueOcean One of Sonic Team's biggest issues is staff turn over rates. Most of Sonic Team's developers who worked on Generations left, several of them went to work on Breath of the Wild. Sega apparently wasn't offering enough money to keep their more experienced, talented staff.
Sega is making bank off of the Sonic Movies, the fact they haven't made a Sonic Movie Mobile Game with microstransactions actually shows a lot of restraint. They should treat the brand more seriously, but as time has shown again and again, they don't. I'd love for Sonic to be given the respect both he and the series deserves, I want Frontiers to be a major success, contender for Game of the Year, best Sonic game ever. But I'm not getting my hopes up, because the last great Sonic game wasn't even made by Sonic Team. If they want fans to start treating Sonic seriously again, they can't have another game with less than a year of development (Forces), and a game with the ultimate buggy launch. Just the crash and burn of Colors Ultimate in gaming communities did more harm for Sonic than not releasing a game this year would have. Casual markets barely care, and the Switch version will easily be the best seller there.
@BlueOcean I've seen sources show the Xbox version having bugs, at least as of 2.0 They may be mostly patched out at this point, I'm not sure. I didn't want to buy the game at 30fps on Switch because I could just play the Wii Version at that point, and am not a fan of the Epic Game Store. The game was supposed to release on Steam, early announcement assets showed the Steam logo instead of Epic.
As for the game being patched after launch, I've seen Sega release enough games as buggy, incomplete messes to where it becomes clear they didn't care about it being the best version. Take Sonic Boom on Wii U, the studio was working on a PS4/Xbox One game before Sega shoehorned in an exclusivity deal to Sega. The studio then spent the majority of their time just trying to get the game to run on the Wii U, because the engine they were using wasn't designed for Wii U. Nintendo even helped, and it wasn't enough to fix the game. They spent so much time on just trying to get the game to run, they weren't able to finish developing the game they wanted.
Take the new soundtrack toggle from the current update. What reason would there be to not have included that at launch? If it was really the Ultimate version of the game, should it not have been included from the start, for fans to choose between old and new? Or the Tails Drop feature, it only just got the ability to be turned off, and it only made the game easier. As a bonus, that's fine, but it was standard for everyone. It looks like Sega decided to release the game as is, and said to patch out the problems, instead of dealing with them before launch. It would have resulted in a delay until probably November if not December, but the game would be in a much better state and have a much better reception if it did.
Sonic Heroes has never been one of my favorite Sonic games, but I doubt it will get a remaster anytime soon. You mentioned you didn't play Sonic 06, well it has Sonic, Shadow and Silver playable as main characters, ala Sonic Adventure DX. Like I said earlier, it was supposed to have even more playable characters, but they got integrated into their respective hedgehog's campaign. Since the backlash of Sonic 06, Sonic Team and Sega have taken a hard step back on who is playable in a Sonic game. With the exception of SA2 being rereleased, a mainline Sonic game having more than a Sonic playable wouldn't happen again until Sonic Forces, with the avatar character. SA2 was still universally loved back in 2010ish when it was rereleased, it was before the internet collectively decided to hate the game. Plenty of people dislike Sonic Heroes too, so it wouldn't be an overly popular choice. Sonic Colors was most likely chosen for it's mostly positive reception, and as a way to have a Sonic game this year come out until Frontiers could be released next year.
Sonic Team and Sega have announced at least 3 times in the last several years how they are not going to rush game development anymore, yet Sonic Forces and Sonic Colors Ultimate stick out like sore thumbs to those statements.
@Gamergirl94 Sonic Team wasn't responsible for the port of Sonic Colors Ultimate. They haven't touched the game since they finished development back on Wii. This was Sega rushing a product to market before it was ready.
As for Sonic 06, plenty of problems there, but Sega insisted they release the game in 2006 for the 15th anniversary. Sonic Team had their equivalent of Miyamoto for Mario leave mid development, have their staff cut in half as Sega insists the Wii get a new Sonic game (Secret Rings) if 06 can't be ported to Wii, Sonic Team had trouble getting used to developing for HD consoles, it was a mess.
Not saying Sonic Team is blameless, they have made plenty of mistakes, but they aren't to blame for Sonic Colors Ultimate, and blaming them for 06 doesn't acknowledge how bad of a position they were in to begin with. They should have been given more time to delay the game, but Sega refused.
@BlueOcean There were rumors a while back about a Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 Remaster, but that in and of itself opens a lot of questions. Would they reuse the original voice lines, or do they bring in the current cast to rerecord? Sounds silly, but if they are remaking the games, why not touch up the voice work too?
I wouldn't get your hopes up for a remastered set of games anytime soon. Considering the state Sonic Colors Ultimate launched in, and Sega being okay with that instead of pushing it back, I don't think they would make give Sonic Team, or another studio porting it enough time or support to really honor the original games.

Re: A New Limited-Time Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Distribution Event Has Begun
@UltimateOtaku91 The GTS for the game was just added recently. Definitely should have been there at launch, but just sharing in case you missed the announcement.
Re: Feature: Kid Icarus: Uprising, Nintendo's Most Daring Release Of The Last Decade
@Joeynator3000 You can play the multiplayer mode with bots, and the online is still active. There's actually a semi-active Discord scene for the game, the online is only mostly dead, but fans have tried to keep it alive.
Re: Dragalia Lost To End Service Later This Year
@DomGC A few of my friends play it, and from what I've gathered, the original writers have left, and the new writers don't know what the story is for updates that released before they were hired.
Re: Rumour Buster: No, The Original DOOM Doesn't Take Place In March 2022
Silly Nintendo, don't they know? Doom is eternal.
Re: Three Sega Genesis Games Have Been Added To Nintendo Switch Online's Expansion Pack
@FishyS I was actually joking that Nintendo considers that to be enough releases on NSO NES and SNES at the time being. Humorous that you forgot, but I wasn't trying to use it as evidence that Nintendo is supporting the service. If they are, it's being drip fed to hungry audience.
Re: Three Sega Genesis Games Have Been Added To Nintendo Switch Online's Expansion Pack
@FishyS In Nintendo's mind, the recent Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings additions count.
Re: These Adorable Fire Emblem Plushes Are Now Available To Order
@PtM No Male Robin either.
Re: Capcom Launches Its Biggest 3DS Sale Ever (US)
@Leuke A regular NES Mega Man VC Game costs 5 dollars.
Re: Sonic Boom's TV Animation Is Getting A 'Complete Series' Steelbook Blu-ray Release Next March
Re: The House Of The Dead: Remake Is Alive, Gets Switch Release Date
Might have to try the co-op on this one.
Re: Bitmap Bureau Reveals 'Final Vendetta', A Homage To Final Fight, Streets Of Rage And Double Dragon
@Scabhead You're right, I confused it with the arcade original being on Wii VC, and a wishlist wanting Revenge of Death Adder back in the Nintendo Power days.
Re: Bitmap Bureau Reveals 'Final Vendetta', A Homage To Final Fight, Streets Of Rage And Double Dragon
Re: Bitmap Bureau Reveals 'Final Vendetta', A Homage To Final Fight, Streets Of Rage And Double Dragon
Re: "If It Smells Like Money, Konami's Going To Be There In A Heartbeat" - PlatinumGames Talks NFTs
@aznable NL actually has a downvote button, it just doesn't show the downvotes anymore. At one point, it showed 5+ if at least 5 people downvoting a particular comment.
Re: Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes 'Limited Edition' Announced For Europe
Re: Random: Someone Tried To Rob A Bank Wearing A Sonic The Hedgehog Mask
@Strictlystyles @BloodNinja @Fizza Florida has a law called the Sunshine Law, which states anyone can access public records, which includes arrest records. There are so many Florida Man stories because the news gets access to the crime reports almost as soon as they are filed and available to the public, and the more outlandish ones are ran as news stories. This is different than the news looking into a story they were tipped on, they get the information without having to do much work. That's why we see so many Florida Man/Woman stories.
Re: Nintendo Download: 27th January (North America)
@FishyS I'm not remotely interested in the game, the price caught my eye, and when I didn't see it described as free to play in the description, I was curious if it was a typo.
Re: Nintendo Download: 27th January (North America)
@ThomasBW84 Is Crush Crush actually 0.00, or was that an error and is supposed to be something like 10.00?
Re: Sonic Boom's TV Animation Is Getting A 'Complete Series' Steelbook Blu-ray Release Next March
@duffmmann @Angelic_Lapras_King
Re: Sonic Boom's TV Animation Is Getting A 'Complete Series' Steelbook Blu-ray Release Next March
@Would_you_kindly It aired starting in 2014, and ran for 2 seasons.
Re: Sonic Colors: Ultimate Has Received A New 'Celebration' Update On Switch
Re: Sonic Colors: Ultimate Has Received A New 'Celebration' Update On Switch
Re: Sonic Colors: Ultimate Has Received A New 'Celebration' Update On Switch
Re: Sonic Colors: Ultimate Has Received A New 'Celebration' Update On Switch
Re: Sonic Colors: Ultimate Has Received A New 'Celebration' Update On Switch
