I had something similar to this happen when playing with a friend of mine on the 3DS version just the other day, and both of us were cracking up so much. I saved the replay. Video is better, but I'll try to describe it.
We were both down to our last life, and he launched me high into the air. Enough that I was in the exit animation, where my fighter was slowly spinning away into the distance. After launching me, his Luigi fell forward (his victory move). However, he was on a moving platform that quickly zoomed off the screen to the left. Luigi couldn't move, and because he reached the side of the screen before I officially disappeared from the screen, the game gave me the victory.
Always glad to see an update, though I was hoping for some sort of content boost, even if it was DLC. New missions, maps, subs, etc. But at least some things have been improved. They got rid of the glitch where you took damage after collecting a dropbox from a defeated opponent. I liked the play coin requirement originally because it virtually eradicated teamkilling, but now that they've removed friendly fire anyway I don't mind them dropping the play coin requirement to get more players in the water.
They need to advertise this better to current owners who were turned off about the play coin rule. That should bring some back. It was nice to see a lot of new players last night. Got a 24 streak! Haven't had one of those since September. Granted, I haven't been playing as much.
@Kobeskillz I've played various games on it for approximately 40 hours. I was also referring to the overall sales and games. I don't need to buy and play every game to say the system is a disappointment. Any rational person who can read the news about the system would understand (and likely agree) with the term "disappointment" when it comes to the Wii U.
LOL, Damien is the king of click bait. And it worked on me!
I'd be willing to bet a couple bucks that NL is in on this joke and will stretch it out until April Fool's for the final, dramatic reveal. That would explain the amount of space and credence given to this guy.
There is a severe lack of quality board games on the 3DS, which sucks because I love board games. I had never even heard of this game, but I'm interested...especially if we can play others online.
Speaking of, I would pay full retail price for a Settlers of Catan game on 3DS. Man...
@XCWarrior I am talking 3DS, obviously. There is only a limited amount of System Memory to save DsiWare games. You eventually have to move some of them to your SD card (making them inaccessible from the 3DS menu). When you do this, you lose saved data.
Would be nice if Nintendo gave us more room in the System Memory. I would buy more games.
@XCWarrior Yeah, but many of us have used up all of our System Memory so it means we have to move a game to the SD card, losing all its save progress, if we want to download anymore DSiWare. It's annoying. I would buy more games if I knew I could just have them easily accessible with their save data right on my 3DS menu.
Great update simply for the Friends feature. Already tried it and it works great. I see it says they've improved the Mechanic. He was already one of my must-use crew members, so that's nice, and the faster torpedoes if you're moving forward is very interesting.
@Galenmereth I tried to make a comment in that Religion=Video Games thread before it got locked, but it'll work here, too. I tried to say, "I can't think of anyone else on this site who consistently makes such high quality posts." I enjoy reading your responses.
@Mus1cLov3r Yes, I downloaded it. I've spent about 10 hours on it, mostly because my kid likes seeing his Mii doing stuff. I had a couple of laughs but it got boring very fast.
Great update. Friend battles is long overdue. @Tsurii897 In a perfect world, yes. Unfortunately there are many players whose sole purpose is to troll the game so they would only fire on teammates. It ruins the experience completely. That will be completely fixed with this update. Really pleased with friendly fire being removed.
I have this and absolutely hate the graphics. They interfere with the gameplay in many parts. The one on the 3DS eShop is the best version, in my opinion.
@Zach777 No, MAB's kind of right. The Wii U's start was so abysmal and the system is so awful, that Nintendo had to move a lot of resources from the far superior 3DS to the Wii U in hopes of saving it. It's not working so far and unfortunately it does affect the 3DS's future.
@CaviarMeths @DarkEdi The reason for some of those short pauses is to avoid getting fireworks at the end of a level. Those pauses actually shave time off the total.
Nice, very cool to give a free update to an existing game. It's also one of my favorites on the eShop. I've 100%ed it from scratch four or five times. Looking forward to playing as Max in Treasurenauts, too.
Great review, and I almost completely agree. I like it enough to give it a 9 though. I'd put it up there with one of the top eShop games released. I love the nostalgic feel to the game; it feels like how I /remember/ NES games feeling.
I'm having a lot of fun with it, and have definitely laughed out loud a few times at my own stupidity, or general "unfairness" of some of the deaths.

Re: Review: Christmas Wonderland 4 (3DS eShop)
The best part of this game showing up is that it reminds us to revisit Phil's review of last year's Christmas Wonderland 3. That was a masterpiece!
The review, not the game.

Re: Renegade Kid’s 3DS Metroidvania Title Xeodrifter Blasting To North America Next Week
Oh cool. Didn't expect it this soon. I will be buying it.
Re: Nintendo Download: 4th December (North America)
Anyone know if that free theme offer also applies to retail copies of the game? Or is it only free if you download the game?

Time to stock up on eShop cards again.

Re: Feature: The Wii U is Two Years Old, But How's it Doing?
It's been disappointing, to say the least. I've played it with friends, tested it, tried demos. It's just not a "must have" for me yet.
I'll buy it when Zelda U comes out.
Re: The November Club Nintendo Rewards Are Now Up For Grabs
Oh good, they actually are offering eight. Would have sucked if they were going back to four.
Re: The November Club Nintendo Rewards Are Now Up For Grabs
Ew.
Re: Mad Men Football Shows Off Its New N64-Inspired Sports Uniform
People defending this game crack me up. Have at least some semblance of standards.

@whiffy5 "There's no way this guy is getting smash on a dead console."
B-b-but...it's coming to the Wii U.
Re: Nintendo 64x64: Conker's Bad Fur Day
The multiplayer in this game is fantastic. So many modes!
I still play this on my N64 whenever friends or family come to visit.
The Beach is probably the most popular, then the Dinosaur game.
Re: Nintendo Download: 9th October (North America)
Who says Ubisoft has abandoned Nintendo? Three 3DS games in a week!

Focus, RK. Focus.
Re: Guide: Unlocking the Full Roster in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
Little Mac will be my main character, I think.
This will drain all of my free time for the next, oh I don't know, three months.

Re: Review: Azure Striker Gunvolt (3DS eShop)
I believe this was Phil's last review for NL, so I'm glad that it was a good game. I was hoping it would be MadMen Football, but alas.
Excellent review, as always. It gave me what I needed to decide if I wanted this for sure.
Peace and love, REED. Peace and love.
Re: NES-Themed Nintendo 3DS XL On The Way as GameStop Exclusive
Like others have said, the box on the NES one looks way better than the system itself. Still, it's tempting.
Re: Ultimate NES Remix Coming To 3DS This November
Nice. It'll sell more on 3DS then Wii U.

Re: Steel Diver: Sub Wars Gets an Upgrade to Version 3.0
@TimeGuy I had no idea you were on this site. You're one of the few people on MV that doesn't make my eyes roll right out of my head.
I'll add you when I get near wifi again.

@JoshTheBaws If you can, check out fluffyclan.weebly.com so you can get everyone else's FC. Then we can do that tournament.
If you're not able to, let me know here, and I'll just post them here, maybe.

Re: Review: IQ Test (Wii U eShop)

Re: This Majora's Mask Cake is Legendary

It's probably because the game sucks.

George Washington from the Nintendo exclusive Mad Men Football.
Re: First Impressions: Breaking Out With Siesta Fiesta on 3DS
@Zach777 I was just running counter-character to MAB's two year one-note joke that the 3DS sucks.

Re: British Tabloid The Sun Brands Gaming "As Addictive As Heroin"
That's why I like digital downloads over physical carts. It's a lot easier to get the digital version in the syringe.
Re: Review: Mysterious Stars: The Singer (DSiWare)
And you didn't even get a review copy. You had to buy the game. Now that's dedication.
