@PinkSpider LOL, I've never heard anyone complain that British actors are "taking our jobs". We fully understand why Britain produces the best actors. From birth they constantly pretend they're somewhere else besides the UK, and who can blame them? This continuous practice of pretending they're someone else and somewhere, anywhere but in the UK gives them the opportunity to obtain hours upon hours of expertise to become top-notch actors.
After finishing my current Lunatic+/Classic playthrough (using soft resets), I'm going to replay it on Lunatic/Classic with no soft resets. I know the maps well enough now where I can anticipate where reinforcements will show up and what strategies work for each map. I am sure I will lose several people along the way, but I'm interested to see how far I can get.
Looking forward to this, and I'm glad they hit all their stretch goals. I backed it and will be getting the 3DS version. Too bad that likely won't have Battle mode but I don't play much multiplayer on my 3DS unless it's wifi anyway.
Sad news. He was a great critic because even if I didn't agree with his opinion, I could always tell from his review if I would enjoy the film or not. That's rare from most reviewers. He will be missed.
I bought the physical copy, though I did toy with the idea of downloading this one since I knew I wouldn't resell it and it would be convenient to have right on my system. I wound up going with the physical copy because of the pre-order bonus I got.
It's also the best 3DS game I've played so far. I've put in a lot of hours into the game already and with all the additional content still coming I don't see my play time slowing down any time soon. Love everything about the game.
I'm buying the three that I don't already own: Bit.Trip (downloaded it for $10 last night), Ketzal's, and Fractured Soul. They all were on my Wishlist already, and the only reason I hadn't taken the plunge was because of their prices. Good move on Nintendo's part. I'm a little surprised to see Crashmo in this, since it came out fairly recently and seems to have sold well.
I'm a fan of the Madden games, though I haven't bought any in recent years. If I had a Wii U I'd probably get this. That's only because I don't own a PS3 or 360 though. Sad that the graphics and frame rate on this Wii U version don't even match those older consoles.
I would love a legit port to the 3DS though. The bare-bones one they released at launch actually looked and played pretty well, it just didn't have the additions we were so used to: franchise mode, trades, and, oh I dunno...stats.
I'm enjoying finding out the behind-the-scenes aspects to getting a game released on the eShop. There have been a lot of Gunman Clive stories in the nintendolife news lately, but I've enjoyed them all. Really cool to hear the experiences of the small developers. I hope Horberg's success continues.
I experienced a glitch once, and I've played it 12+ hours. I had the 3D on during the Stage 10 boss fight, and I think it's because there was too much going on on the screen at the time. I had fired the spread gun a couple times, oil was shooting at me, etc. That happened within the first hour of me playing the game, but since then I play that boss battle with the 3D off and I haven't encountered a glitch.
Love the game, and I look forward to what the designer does next.
Will be picking up Super C. Loved Contra, but hardly played Super C.
I would definitely recommend Ghost Recon, but as others have said, that price point is silly. You can get the retail version for around half that cost.
@Nareva I am waiting for a black XL before I make the upgrade. If I felt the XL was a must-have, I'd obviously get one with the color choices available now, though I don't particularly like the red or blue. I figure a black version will come out eventually (already available in Japan) so I can wait until then.
So to answer your question--yes, color choice can affect the sales of a device, though it's probably not a huge factor.
I love this game, and I'm glad a lot of other people do, too. I've spent more time on this game then I expected. It's the most fun I've had with a $2 game on the eShop, and even though it's a quick game I've spent several hours on it trying to get all the speed badges.
I'm very happy for the developer's success, and I hope it leads to more great games. I would love a sequel, too.
That said, what do the numbers on the x-axis of that graph mean? It's not days or weeks. How much time does each segment represent?
This would look amazing on the 3DS. Wish it were slated for both Wii U and the handheld.
I always thought Marble Madness would be a great 3D Classics type of game (yes, I know it's not made by Nintendo so it wouldn't happen), but this would definitely fit the bill.
Sacred Stones is my second-most played game on my 3DS. I had never played a Fire Emblem game before that, so I'm glad it was included as an ambassador game. Love it.
I was going to buy this even without a demo, but I'm glad more people will get a chance to check it out. I hope the demo is done well and not too confusing.
@KnightRider666 I'm in the same boat. A few times I've decided against getting a game simply because of the size and I would then have to move stuff off my 3DS menu onto a SD card. I know it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I generally only get 10-15 minutes of time to play in one sitting so the notion of copy/deleting games from my SD card to system memory turns me off. I would have purchased several more DSiWare games if I simply had the room.
That said, Jump Trials Extreme is only 20-25 blocks (can't remember exactly) so I went ahead and got it. I'm a fan of platforming in general, and I enjoyed 10 Second Run. This review plus the trailer on the eShop convinced me to give it a shot. I'm glad I got this as it's better than I expected. It's better than 10 Second Run, in my opinion, and has a ton more replay value. 100 levels, and then Time Attack and then the "medal" modes...lots of playing to max those out and I'm enjoying trying. Perfect game to play when you don't have a lot of time.
Yeah, I read that article. I still marvel that you translate those quotes as "threatening their fans" though.
Again, people sure like making up things to be mad about.
EDIT: Your Planet Crashers comments enlightens me a bit. Perhaps you just don't like Renegade Kid's games so now you've found a "legitimate" reason to dislike them.
Good news to me. I enjoyed the first quite a bit. I would assume it gets a release on the 3DS eShop, which is what I prefer because a game like this is perfect as a portable game.
@GeminiSaint "4) Beat the game 8 times or more, and you can press A+Start on the title screen to play the bonus worlds A, B, C and D."
Do you have to beat it 8 times without using the warp zones? I've beaten it once without using warp zones to get World 9, but I'm hoping subsequent playthroughs to unlock A, B, C, and D can be faster by using warps.
I just beat this about half an hour ago. It's been the main game I've played over the last week since it was released on the eShop. So difficult, but so gratifying to beat.
I had never played this before, so I did laugh out loud at a few of the trollish moments that I didn't expect. Most notably, the springboard that took me waaaaay over the flagpole to a backward warp zone. I went from "Wow, awesome! I've finally managed to jump over a flagpole" to "Oh #$@% you".
Wow, this was a good week. I had already bought quite a few games off the eShop in recent weeks, and I just went a little crazy and spent, ahem, $45 on games released today (BIT.TRIP.SAGA, Wario Land II, escapeVektor, PIX3D, 3D Game Collection, and the NSMB2 DLC).
I should be good for a while...
Oh wait, Lost Levels and Fluidity come out next week? Uh oh.
Oh rad. This is a pleasant surprise. I've enjoyed the DLC levels so far, and I was hoping they'd remake some retro ones. Didn't think it would actually happen though.
Thanks. Ha, just downloaded it and saw that. Came on here to answer my own question. It looks like it keeps the top 5 scores for each level, too. Not bad.
The joke's been made, but it bears repeating--I think Phi has been forced to play so many lackluster titles that his opinion of a "near perfect" game has been skewed. I was iffy on this because of the price tag, but after reading this review (from my favorite and most trusted reviewer on this site) I took the plunge.
I don't regret getting it, but I think my expectations were so high after seeing a 10 that I am a little disappointed. I love the atmosphere and the subtle score--it's a great game to play with headphones on in bed right before you go to sleep--but I found it to be a little repetitive and easy. Plus, I suppose I was hoping for a better ending. I'd knock the score down a couple of points.
@Chrono_Cross I don't understand the point of your first paragraph. Was any of that directed towards me? I have to assume it was since we're the only people who have talked about this game in months.
If it was, then you're making huge assumptions. I played Animal Crossing when it first came out for several hours over several days and found it incredibly boring. Why was I bored? Because of all the things this review mentions. Those same elements are why others love the game. So my point stands...the review does a good job of letting people know what to expect from the game, and from that they can begin to figure out if they want to check it out. Having to leave a score on a game like this is quite difficult.
Obviously relying solely on one review on whether to check out a game or not is dumb, but you have to start somewhere and take in a few opinions.
"If you're going to read a review on the original Animal Crossing, you should go elsewhere"
Yes, because you disagree with the review, it's a bad one.
The review is right on. People shouldn't get so hung up on scores. Sometimes putting a score on a game is just not necessary. If the review gets across if someone will like the game or not, then it has succeeded. This review does that. Animal Crossing is definitely not for everybody (like myself), and this review would help steer those people away from it. Likewise, it would help people who would enjoy it realize it's worth checking out.
Take away the obligatory score, and the review wouldn't upset anyone.
@Chicken_Brutus Thank you very much for taking the time to address my questions. I apologize for making you write and think about this game for another few minutes.
@Kinioka Yes, but my point is that the review didn't address the game with its intended audience in mind--small kids. I mean, did anyone above the age of 8 really think they were going to like this game, or find it challenging whatsoever? Of course not. Experienced gamers are obviously not going to like this type of game, so the review could at least be helpful by addressing the game with its intended audience in mind.
I don't think anyone expected this to be great, but the review didn't address something I wanted to know about the game. The game is obviously meant for three to six year-olds. I have a three year old that enjoys games that are no challenge for an adult (Arcade Bowling, for example) and that we would easily say is trash. But that doesn't mean it would be awful for a youngster. I had this on my radar for him because he likes Chuck E. Cheese's and it seemed like the games would be simple enough for him to enjoy without getting frustrated.
Thinking as a child...Does the game at least make kind of a big deal when the tickets come out of the machine? Are there sound effects and music to make it resemble a Chuck E. Cheese's? Would even a kid who doesn't have perfect eye-hand coordination get perfects on all the games while barely trying?
I've only been frequenting this site for a few months, and I lurk the comment sections. I've noticed a common trend. Some people are almost always negative (Chrono_Cross in particular) and it seems like their sole purpose on this site is to crap on stuff that other people may enjoy.
I get that some people only like non-competitive games (thus several comments about how Mario Kart 7 sucks and how you're only looking forward to Animal Crossing), but realize that there is a big market for these games. Just because you don't like a game doesn't mean it sucks. These are well-made games that don't happen to interest you. That's cool. There are many games that would fit that description for me.
I, for one, am looking forward to this because I enjoyed New Super Mario Bros. quite a bit. What's wrong with making a similar game, if it's based on games that were great? Oh wait, maybe I understand now...are people being forced to purchase every game that Nintendo comes out with? In that case, I understand the constant negativity.

Crimson Shroud is a steal at that price.
The only one I don't have is Aero Porter, and $3 is probably low enough to get me to download it.

Looks like some of the other smartphone platformers I have, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. If the price is right, I'd probably get it.
