The numbers don't really surprise me at all. 3DS games should be way simpler and, therefore, faster to make. So if Nintendo combines ressources from 3DS and Wii U to Switch, this will still not nearly produce the same amount of games as Wii U and 3DS combined got.
The Switch numbers are higher than the old Wii U numbers, that much was to be expected and that is what we got.
The only year that seems odd is 2020 so far, unless they will still announce more than we would expect. The virus might be at fault here though.
@Euler I do not know how it is in your country, but here in germany the massive pay of sports stars is a never ending debate even among fans. Ask 100 people and 99 will tell you that they are massively overpayed and that things should change in that department.
So from my persective, I don't know what you are talking about.
@StevenG How many years you need to get that money with even average salary very much depends on the country you are living in though, and whether you are counting your salary before or after taxes, which are also strongly dependend on the place where you are living.
It would really surprise me, if Nintendo would stop their mobile business. Games like that are relatively cheap to make, yet can make a huge amount of money, which is also why parts of the gaming industry wants this as the future... Even Nintendo games on mobile that are not regarded as success are probably at least turning even or even still make a profit. Not to say anything about the successes.
It might not be the cash cow they hoped for after Pokemon Go, for that reason it makes sense to slow down a bit and concentrate more on Switch again. But stopping the mobile department entirely? I don't think so.
And I honestly just don't care, personally. I am not much interested in their mobile games and I don't think it has much of an impact on their usual console business either way.
I am still curious if the Wild Area and the dlcs end up being a kind of test for an actual open world Pokemon game. Not sure if open world really is a good idea for Pokemon at all, I think this might sound far better than it actually is.
All that being said, I don't expect to get an answer in this presentation. That would be too big of an announcement for this, I think.
@Jokerwolf I completely agree that the way Microsoft does it is great and better than Nintendos solution. But you wrote: "Only if they do family sharing like xbox so I don't have to buy the same ***** game for everyone in my family." under a news about a possible digital-only Switch, suggesting that this is not a problem with physical games. The way Nintendo game sharing works has no disadvantage to physical games though.
Whether Nintendos solution is good or not is, of course, subjective, but as long as it does not have any disadvantages to the lending of physical games, that I am used to, I am personally just fine with that.
@Jokerwolf Umm, Nintendo already has that? There just can not be two people playing at the same time, but otherwise you can share digital games all you want...
The question is: Is there even any point in a digital only Switch? A Blu Ray drive costs a notable amount of money, so a digital-only Xbox or PS can be sold a bit cheaper. But is a card reader really expensive enough for that to be the case? In mass production, I don't think so.
So who will buy a digital-only Switch, if the normal version effectively costs the same?
We can go one further and say, that a digital only Switch needs more internal storage to make sense. In that case, the digital Switch would be more expensive.... But that depends on how they handle it.
@Ambassador_Kong Oh, come on now... All I was arguing is, that if you want to have a higher resolution or framerate, you have to sacrifice something else. If you think that the game would look over all better with a higher resolution even if that means, for example, lower texture resolution, than that is your opinion, but it is nothing more than that: An opinion.
They enhanced other parts of the game. If they didn't do that you could have 1080/60, easily. The game would, overall, not look that much better than the original though, just an upscaled version with some enhancements here and there.
This has nothing much to do with any "basic levels of industry acceptability". If you want to go with that, than it was, to me, already completely unacceptable that a PS4 wasn't outputting every game in at least native 1080p. PCs have already been able to do that for ages at that point. So what are those basic levels? Anyone will have his own opinion on that. And saying that the Switch is weak compared to other home consoles is something we don't have to discuss, it is obvious and we have had this discussion a million times already. Doesn't change that this game wouldn't necessarily have looked better over all with higher resolution if they made sacrifices somewhere else though. And no one is arguing that PS5 and Nextbox won't be technically a lot better than the Switch. They would be able to output this version of this game in 4k, I am sure. It's just not something I am arguing, at all. The thing is: If this game were on PS5, they could sacrifice that resolution again for even more details. Just think what absolutely amazing textures and poly counts the game would have if it was running on an PS5 with, say, 720p resolution and 30fps (whether it would still be worth it at that point, is another topic). We could argue about industry standards again then, even though the game might look absolutely incredible in such a case.
And yes, I know how annoying fanboys can be, defending everything. But people here were mostly just normaly arguing against what @StevenH was writing. You know, things you do in a comment section.
@StevenH I just wanted to explain to you, why the way you are thinking just doesn't work regardless of the console.
But yeah I get it, i am just a stupid Nintendo fanboy even though my main system I game on is a PC. I am really tired of that argument, you can not reason with anything, since the moment you say anything defending a Nintendo game, no matter how justified that is, you are just disregarded as a fanboy.
Have you even considered that others here, arguing against you, might have a point?
Well doesn't matter, I am fed up with this as well. I guess in that sense we feel similar. We are both asking ourselfs why we even tried to argue.
@StevenH What you are saying does not make a lot of sense. Even PS5 and Series X might have games running at low resolution and framerate (Unless Sony/Microsoft just won't let those games on the market.). Even though, it would have been totally possible to have Xenoblade Chronicles run at 1080/60 on the Switch? The thing is that they ->decided<- against it. They upgraded the graphics until it was not easily possible anymore to run the game with greater resolution on Switch. This is a kind of decision any developer has to make, regardless of how powerfull a console is. Sure game XY could have 1080/60 on a PS5, but we could use this hardware for a higher poly count and better lighting instead. Something like that.
In case of Xenoblade, I think that was the right call at least. The game looks so much better than the original and you are basically saying that they should have sacrificed that to get the numbers up. Well, looking at the game, thank god they didn't.
If you think that a game, looking like it does now, should still have higher numbers, you are talking about the wrong console. That the Switch has some limitations compared to even PS4 and XONE should be obvious.
@GrandScribe
As sad as it is, being able to do everything that the developers wanted is not realistic in most scenarios.
I bet the devs wanted to include Bionis Shoulder to the original game as well, but they couldn't do that either.
Who knows, maybe the developers of BotW would have liked to make a world twice as large, but there was a "money issue" there too.
That is simply what I was trying to say, not being able to do something because of money is the norm, especially in a medium like games, where you could always still add something to any game.
Monolith Soft got money to do this remaster and they most likely could have remastered the entire OST, but they decided to use the money on other features, if they had more money, then the OST might have been the next thing to include and if they had even more money (...) and if they had even more money (...) and if they had even more money we might have have gotten a full remake and if they had even more money.........
Where do we draw the line until we do not have a money issue anymore?
But yeah, I do agree that some kind of master mode would be really nice. I love a good challenge.
@mazzel But thats exactly what I am trying to argue here. If "budget limitations" = "budget problems" then every commercial game ever in existence has had budget problems.
Budget is always limited and there will always be features that you would want to include, but can't because of that.
@Mgene15 Funny you say that. I, for example, have a pretty good gaming pc which I upgrade regularly. I love seeing great graphics, though that does not mean I disagree with what people are mostly writing here at all. You do not need to be a fanboy to see that graphics do not deliver the kind of impact they used to anymore. I would personally not go as far as saying it is irrelevant already (otherwise I wouldn't have that pc...), but it becomes less and less important per generation.
How important you see graphics currently is purely dependent on your opinion, but the decline in importance is hard to argue against.
That is the problem when it comes to graphics. More powerful hardware for better looking games were a huge thing in the past, because the differences were massiv. Now, graphics are already so great, that any upgrade just does not have as much of an impact anymore.
That is not saying that better graphics are unwantend, in my book. It just naturally isn't the killer feature anymore.
Another thing: AAA companies are already investing so much money into the graphics of a game, in a lot of cases I wonder what would have happened if they used half that budget just to improve other parts of the game instead...
@GrandScribe Can't find anything about budget "problems" in the interview... Budget is limited of course, it is limited in every project. Giving unlimited budget for a project is not realistic. Because of that, scope is also always limited.
Apart from that, I would also have loved an hard mode! Though, I am not complaining, the game already gives a lot IMO.
@Araquanid You are throwing around a lot of claims that are just not likely. In fact, i would say that stuff like "I'm aware of how large pirating has become on the switch (I'm convinced everybody just does it now)" and "nintendo game replayability isn't as intriguing or polished as the other consoles"
are quite far fetched things to say, especially the former line.
Although I do agree, that games like Pokemon can get a lot of replayability through mods. You could say, Nintendo games tend to offer a lot of possibilities for hacking. That doesn't mean that Nintendo games have that much less replayability then games from other companies though. All systems are pretty similar in that regard, I would say. At least they are not so far apart that this would noticably increase the amount of hacks.
I generally dislike having to pay just to be able to play online. This service though is at least cheap enough for me to not care a lot about. That doesn't make it good, but it does make it better than the other consoles solutions in my book. (PC is best though, obviously)
And all the extra stuff you are getting is, to me, mostly useless on any of the three consoles. Nintendo might even be the best case for me, I like being able to just start some retro games without having to buy them specifically or having to plug in different consoles. That is at least something, I guess.
Apart from the fact that there won't be a Direct, this could mean a lot of things or maybe nothing.
Could mean, no game announcements or they could just announce the games without a Direct. Could mean, no more major games in 2020, or maybe not, because those games would be very far in development already and they can bugfix from homeoffice. ...
Lots of possibilities and we can't possibly know, so at this point I take it as it is said: Probably no Direct in June, that is all. Apart from that, nothing would really surprise me either.
@Yorumi There are a lot of games out there where I could understand your stance. AC is not one of them...
As was already mentioned, you are clearly missing the point of Animal Crossing. This game isn't about "completing" it and with that, your entire argument basically falls apart.
@chocolate_supra Or make the dock, No dock at all. Make it a system that is generally able to work by itself and make the original Switch or Lite connect over wireless. Now you have a more powerful home only Switch version and a second screen.
Sounds like the usual for big online games. The higher the user count is, the higher the chances are that any change might piss off a huge amount of players, even if they are still a very low percentage.
I am saying that, even though I don't play Fortnite myself, so I could be wrong in this case of course, but this is just what usually happens. You know what never really happens? A game as big as this actually dieing, just because of a few changes.
Well, if the support were to say "yes, you can do it, it should be fine!" and something DOES happen, that would look really really bad for them.
So saying something like this is dangerous, especially since they could never know what kind of wipe and solution you actually use, some variants can very well be too agressive.
All that being said, colors like that are always in danger to fade by cleaning.
I think the customer support is required to be careful in cases like this, even if the danger is low.
@Judal27 I am with @GoblinKing86 on this one. All I am ever seeing is gimmicks being locked behind amiibos... I think the only game where amiibos acutally give you an interesting function is Smash. Even that one is debatable...
In most cases, you are getting some items which ultimately make the game a little easier. Personally, I do not even want that to happen.
I have some Amiibos and I basically never used them, because the unlocks are so uninteresting, which is fine by me, it shouldn't lock out anything meaningful and they are nice figurines either way.
@SupaWaluigi I would go for 3, personally.
I think SR3 is overall the better game and a lot of the draw for SR4 comes from the fact that it is even MORE over the top than the third.
So if you already played 3 and are wondering how they could possibly get any more ridiculous, play 4.
Also, 3 and 4 are a bit more tied together, story wise. Not that this is important in this kind of game, but it's always nice to know the characters a bit more if possible, I guess.
"Nintendo used the core concept of the hardware to sell the dream, rather than a list of meaningless numbers that most casual players won't understand."
Out of experience from previous consoles, I dare say at least 95% of people talking about it don't really understand these numbers. Casual or not does not matter.
And the reason why is: "The latter pair are engaged in a war of technical power; they're fighting for the title of the most powerful home console and that's why teraflops and compute units in GPUs matter; these are the metrics upon which victory will ultimately be decided for many buyers."
No number can ultimately decide which console can give you the best graphics and fps in total. There are too many factors in play here... People won't understand that. The danger lies in companies maybe wanting to get higher numbers instead of actually better hardware, since numbers sell.
Well at least at least people are not looking at much at pure clockspeed anymore...
@Moroboshi876 I see. But yeah, this is only such a timesink if you want it to be. It's also possible to just play through it and the game has more than enough content that it is worth it just for that, I'd say.
@Moroboshi876 I am not sure what you mean. There is nothing in this game that requires you to play every day.
While there Isn't a story, it is simply a level based game. You finish a level and advance to the next, unless you don't want to. So you finish the game once you complete the last level.
Ironically, if Nintendo shares do rise further up in the future, it will be partly because of publications like the financial times.
They make people hesitant to buy more shares, causing the value to stay lower than it could be.
If Nintendo proves them wrong in the future, share prices could go up just because of that.
This shows the problem of these kind of publications very well, a prime example if you will.
These guys know how to work with numbers, they know how to work with numbers and they know how to read a chart, they also know what is going on in business. But that all being said, with markets like this one, they do not understand the market itself at all.
To counter some of there arguments: "The Japanese gaming company has yet to adapt to a market moving rapidly away from consoles" -> Just because sales on the likes of smartphones rise, does not mean that the sales of traditional consoles sales will drop. No one plays on a phone INSTEAD of a console, in truth there is a time and demographic for both options. One does not eat much from the other. The only thing that could fight the consoles (besides PC) is...
"Cloud gaming" -> Currently there is no cloud gaming service on the horizon that looks like it could seriously challenge anything. The most promising product (Stadia) just failed miserably. (It was the only one that had the necessary marketing in the first place)
"The origninal Switch dropped in sales" -> It dropped in sales partly BECAUSE of the Light...
"No new Console this year" -> Fair point considering PS and Xbox this year.
What I do agree on is the conclusion. This seems like a bad moment to buy Nintendo shares, like the article says there is not really that much reason to believe that it will rise even further. Would be a risky buy at best.
@Kalmaro Cloud gaming works for some people, but doesn't work well for most people on this planet. Even if you have a generally good internet connection, that doesn't mean that cloud gaming will work well for you. Heck it is enough if you just happen to sit to far away from the next server. The input lag will already be a big disadvantage as well. Even in an ideal scenario you will have input lag, if you are very receptive to that kind of thing than this might literally never work.
Of course if everything in your place is perfect for this than, then cloud gaming might work very well for you and that is great for you, but it doesn't help all the people who are bound to have problems.
Besides that, you are talking about Shadow, which is, as you have described yourself, very different than other cloud services. I can live with Shadow, as it really just lets you outsource your hardware. Nothing wrong with that, if it works. But looking around, seeing the development of other cloud services clearly shows, that this is not what the industry tries to push us to. And that is what annoys the most: The industry tries to push us gamers to a kind of service that would mainly be an advantage for them, but not for us.
I am not a big Star Wars fan, but I have seen all the movies. Still, even for me this movie might actually have been the worst movie i have ever seen. I went in without much of an expectation and ended up laughing about how bad it was half the time. Its biggest issue is how nothing about it makes any sense. For example, it can be fine to have this kind of development for Luke, but given what we know about him, the explanation we got makes absolutely no sense and just breaks the character. The amount of plotholes in this movie must bei a new record as well, I have never noticed as many as here on just the first watch and I was not really searching for them.
@MisterKorman It's fine If you like the movie. I also like some things that are objectively bad as well, but the way you are trying to defend this movie leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. You can't just talk as if this is just the recent punching bag for the fans, as this has a far bigger magnitude than anything before. Solo literally tanked just because people were done with this trilogy after TLJ. It's also not just Fans that are dissappointed but tons of more casual viewers like me as well, just looking at the comments here, you should see that. Some of your arguments defending the movie itself are a real stretch as well. I.e. you can't think of anything better they could have done with Snoke? Oh come on... Even just saying who he is and letting him die in a slightly dignified way would have already been a massive improvement. The way he was killed was just as dumb as you could get. It almost felt like satire...
@SmaMan @Anti-Matter A bright and very humorous game about managing a hospital and curing as many people as possible... And the first thing you think about ist how you could technically also do the opposite of your goal and kill people?
I actually had to stop and think for a moment If you are even right about that possibility. I guess with a little creativity you could do it... Like, If someone on the brink of death is standing in line somewhere and you can edit the line so others get priority all the time until the guy dies. That would also mean actively sabotaging yourself of course as dead people are about the last thing you want in your hospital.
This is way too far fetched for pegi to up the rating in my opinion.
I mean what are the Lemmings games then? Those games are usually Pegi 3 as well....
And as a bonus fact: A 3 year old wouldn't be able to effectively play a hospital management game anyway.
@frogopus That is also something I am thinking again and again. Sure they could make a botw style Pokemon game, for example, but there is no garantee that this will even end up being good. Just because something sounds nice, doesn't mean it is nice. Especially not considering how many fans there are, that might have a problem with the changes.
Zelda botw is a brilliant game, but there are people who hate it for a reason.
@Yorumi Ok, seriously now. What you are writing is so over the top, that it is very hard to take seriously at all...
As for me, I am not such a big fan of Pokemon at all. I was, back in gen 1, but later not so much. I very much dislike gen 7, as that is, to me, easily the worst generation of them all. Yet, I very much like gen 8, as it does a lot of things very right in my opinion. In fact, this is now my favorit Pokemon gen of them all. Reading your comments, one would think that someone like me can't even exist, but here I am. Though your way of thinking now is probably something like "he is fooling himself", I guess...
There is a lot to like about this game, compared to earlier gens: Graphics are, like them or not, far superior to previous Pokemon games, even if it was just for the 1080p alone (which it isn't). Whether it is still the case when you look at it "relative to the system power", doesn't change anything about that. Combat animations also look alot better than ever before. Yes the animations of the Pokemon themselfs are the same as ever, but the effects themselfs, look a lot better than previously. A new world to explore is always an argument for a new game in and on itself. A lot of completely new Pokemon, like we have rarely seen before. More creativity in arena design (gameplay wise). Dynamax actually is a lot more fun than it looks at first. Some very interesting looking routes, like we haven't seen before. Great city design, far superior to earlier games. ... You can subjectively not care about any of that, but that is the same as me subjectively not caring about the missing Pokemon. Yet you are talking as if the games are just objectively bad.
You say it is easy to compare the graohics of this game to other AAA switch games, yet you are going so over the top, that it seems like it is not easy to do that at all...
Sure it is easy to see what gen 8 is lacking compared to some earlier titles, but it should be pretty easy to see the things that the older games are lacking compared to gen 8. If you say, you don't care about something like the wild area, than that is not an argument here, just another proof of how subjective things like this are.
You say there is a form of tribalism (which is generally true for a lot of games), but then you do not seem to accept the fact that some people just like this game and try to argue against them by invalidating subjective arguments, making you appear as someone in a tribe yourself. And if you want to deny that now, read your own comments again, you are doing it! "If people want to buy it fine but don't tell me it's because it's a quality game or a step forward.", for an easy example.
I am actually an professional programmer, btw. Though I am not a game developer, I have to say, if you think there is no, or barely any coding involved in moving Pokemon from gen 7 to gen 8, then it is actually you, who doesn't understand how coding in this instances works. Sure, it MIGHT be possible to just copy and paste everything and it works fine, if the stars align correctly. That really depends a lot on how exactly everything is coded in both games and how well it is compatible. In praxis, this is, in projects of this size, basically never the case. You can fully expect there to be coding involved for each Pokemon. If you have experience in programming, you should be aware of that. This would only possibly be different if they literally just took gen 7 code and just made a new world for it, which you do not seriously believe is all they did, do you? That is beside the fact that the argument "they just copied the Pokemon from past gens" pretty much invalidates itself. If it is THAT easy, then why didn't they just do it? There is no motive to be found here at all. Even if you think that the people at gamefreak are the worst kind of lazy people, there would still not be enough of a motive to do that. Unless it is actually NOT that easy of course.
Also as someone who likes playing Fifa, but isn't buying it every year, because I think the changes are not enough: Comparing this to the changes from any Pokemon gen to any other is ridiculous. Even just the fact that there is a new world, already makes the difference from one game to another much bigger than anything Fifa accomplishes over multiple years. That should be VERY obvious. So much for: "However, anyone who bought these games and says one word of criticism toward EA or Activision or any other AAA dev I'm going to laugh in their face constantly. No, I'm not surprised by this level of hypocrisy but it is hilarious."
Sorry for the wall of text but it just had to be written out.
@QueenKittenWrite If you only see the fact that I have compared these games at all and didn't try to understand what I was talking about, then I daresay it is you, who ist part of the problem on why the fanbase gets so ridiculously toxic.
But it is not like I wasn't expecting this response. This really just proves my point for most people that remember how both games look in detail.
And another thing: I remember not being the only one thinking people will hate this game, even before it was even announced. Why? Because expectations were insanely high and unrealistic. You want a Pokemon BotW? Do you remember how long BotW was in development? Do you remember how long Pokemon could have been in development, max? Do you see the problem here?
Honestly, as much as I love BotW, I sometimes feel like this game has completely screwed expectaions of some parts of the Nintendo community. I am not even sure if BotW was even commercially successful, simply because it was so long in development and must have cost a fortune to make. They are probably trying to change that with BotW 2 reusing the same engine.
And btw.: Yes I do realise that people will scratch their heads reading my comparison with BotW, but I chose this example very intentional.
Some things in that game look like hot garbage, probably worse than in any other Switch game. There are framerate problems as well and it has lower resolution on averege.
Yet the game is (rightfully) regarded as beautiful.
If you do not understand how that could be, this is something you should think about.
It's a very clean and sharp looking game, partly thanks to the 1080p (this btw. costs a lot of hardware ressources in and on itself). Colors are very vibrant as I want it to see in such a game. Attack animations are very much a few steps up from what we have seen on 3DS (I am not talking about how the Pokemon themselfs are animated here, but the attacks themselfs). A lot of general animations are also better, less in battle, but in the world. Polycount in general is decent enough.
Yes, a lot of the textures are bad, espacially for the ground but that is actually true for most Switch games on the market. Just look at BotW for example, that game is supposed to be looking beatiful, but the textures are clearly even worse on avarege, yet no one even talks about that. An "The graphics are really bad in that regard" kind of talk is easily possible with every single Switch game up till now. It's really like some people are basically search for something to be upset about. Or, and I think that is the main issue here, you just subjectively do not like the graphical style of the game, which is fair, but well, not very objective. If I read something like Luigis Mansion or Link's Awakening as positive examples, I am starting to wonder if people realize that these games are far less hardware demanding for abvious reasons and can therefore invest more into details...
I am one of the people that really disliked SuMo, but, to me, this game is clearly a lot better than that. In every regard.
And about the criticism: If you don't like a game for some reason, that is fair of course, it is always fair. The problem in this case is people giving nonsencial "reviews" (EVERYTHING IS HORRIBLE, because of these two things I don't like...), people downright attacking gamefreak, people downright attacking people who just like the game... And so on. Because of people like this (and there are A LOT of them right now) the fans that actually like the game, like me, are getting tired and hit back, obviously. That is what fuels this entire conversation about these games right now...
Yes, the stakes are higher, but that is kinda part of the job description. If you do not like that, than I would suggest taking a different job, though it might be a bit hard to find a job that you can not lose due to some kind of misbehavior...
But don't worry there is an easy solution to avoid this kind of punishment for cheating: DON'T DO IT
@Xansies I completely understand that. It would be great if P5 was being ported to Switch, as it is an amazing game.
What I am upset about is people making connections that make no sense.
We don't get P5? Then we don't want P5S either!!! -> This kind of stuff.
It just isn't getting us anywhere. It doesn't make a port of P5 more likely, if anything this might makes it less likely.
Especially if we talk about SSBU Joker in that context as well. What has that to do with anything?? People have some strange view on what "being a character in SSB" is supposed to mean, but again, this whole discussion isn't us getting anywhere. And frankly, it is just a minority anyway, so not even the developers and publishers will really care about this one.
Also, can we stop this whole "... needs to happen, or else..." nonsense? It is seriously annoying to see people, again and again and again, behave like they are entitled to something even though they are not. Can't we just go back to enjoying games, simply because they are good? P5S might be a perfectly good game even without P5.
@Ralizah That is the annoying thing about these kinds of rumors.
If the rumor turns out to be true: Surprise ruined!
If the rumor does not turn out to be true: Massive dissapointment!
No matter how it turns out, taking such rumors seriously doesn't get us anywhere...
I never had any issue with the D-pad either. While I also think that Nintendo used to make better D-pads in the past, I still like this one far more than any of the competitors, this includes all third party controllers I have ever had my hands on, for any system.
But the difference in opinion about this seems to be so extreme that is somehow interesting. Is there maybe a difference? Maybe it depends on how you hold the controller or something? Or quality of the controllers veries? Because if I read stuff like "pressing 'right' but the controller registers 'up'", it is just completely beyond me how this could happen with the Pro Controller, I just never had any problem like that at all.
I have been trying to tell for years now, that you can pretty much make any game run on any system that is at least on 360/PS3 level. There is nothing about the gameplay that requires anything of note, internal hardwarewise. The only thing, where hardware really comes into play, is graphics and graphics can always be down- or upgraded to whatever you need. I have been trying to say that in the past in discussions about Witcher 3 as well and... Here it is!
The only two question, if you want to port a game to a weaker system, are:
Is the amount of work required to do that worth it? The weaker the system is, the more work it usually is to port and downgrade that kind of game.
Is the inevitable downgrade worth it? If the game, in the end, looks so bad that you do not want to sell it like this, then yeah...

Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Making As Many Games As It Used To?
The numbers don't really surprise me at all.
3DS games should be way simpler and, therefore, faster to make.
So if Nintendo combines ressources from 3DS and Wii U to Switch, this will still not nearly produce the same amount of games as Wii U and 3DS combined got.
The Switch numbers are higher than the old Wii U numbers, that much was to be expected and that is what we got.
The only year that seems odd is 2020 so far, unless they will still announce more than we would expect.
The virus might be at fault here though.
Re: Nintendo's Directors Earn A Relatively Modest Wage Compared To Other Industry Execs
@Euler I do not know how it is in your country,
but here in germany the massive pay of sports stars is a never ending debate even among fans. Ask 100 people and 99 will tell you that they are massively overpayed and that things should change in that department.
So from my persective, I don't know what you are talking about.
Re: Only 7 Copies Of This 'Super Secret' Pokémon Card Exist, And One Just Sold For A Record-Breaking Sum
@StevenG How many years you need to get that money with even average salary very much depends on the country you are living in though, and whether you are counting your salary before or after taxes, which are also strongly dependend on the place where you are living.
Re: Nintendo's Mobile Business Is Here To Stay
Re: Random: Something's Really Not Right With That Pokémon Unite Promo Image
@Lawnachaun It isn't simply about the colors though, but about the buttons being
on the wrong side as well.
Re: Reminder: "Big" Pokémon Project To Be Revealed In Pokémon Presents Livestream Tomorrow
Re: Poll: Should Nintendo Release A Digital-Only Switch?
@Jokerwolf
I completely agree that the way Microsoft does it is great and better than Nintendos solution.
But you wrote: "Only if they do family sharing like xbox so I don't have to buy the same ***** game for everyone in my family." under a news about a possible digital-only Switch,
suggesting that this is not a problem with physical games.
The way Nintendo game sharing works has no disadvantage to physical games though.
Whether Nintendos solution is good or not is, of course, subjective, but as long as it does not have any disadvantages to the lending of physical games, that I am used to, I am personally just fine with that.
Re: Poll: Should Nintendo Release A Digital-Only Switch?
@Jokerwolf Of course it is game sharing.
The only thing you can not do is play online multiplayer with only one copy.
It is basically the same as you lending the physical copy, just that you don't have to meet every time.
Re: Poll: Should Nintendo Release A Digital-Only Switch?
@Jokerwolf Umm, Nintendo already has that? There just can not be two people playing at the same time, but otherwise you can share digital games all you want...
Re: Poll: Should Nintendo Release A Digital-Only Switch?
The question is: Is there even any point in a digital only Switch?
A Blu Ray drive costs a notable amount of money, so a digital-only Xbox or PS can be sold a bit cheaper.
But is a card reader really expensive enough for that to be the case? In mass production, I don't think so.
So who will buy a digital-only Switch, if the normal version effectively costs the same?
We can go one further and say, that a digital only Switch needs more internal storage to make sense. In that case, the digital Switch would be more expensive.... But that depends on how they handle it.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Receives A Day One Update
@Ambassador_Kong
Oh, come on now...
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Receives A Day One Update
@StevenH
I just wanted to explain to you, why the way you are thinking just doesn't work regardless of the console.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Receives A Day One Update
@StevenH
What you are saying does not make a lot of sense.
Re: Monolith Soft's Takahashi Tetsuya Talks Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition In This Translated Famitsu Interview
@GrandScribe
Re: Monolith Soft's Takahashi Tetsuya Talks Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition In This Translated Famitsu Interview
@mazzel
But thats exactly what I am trying to argue here.
If "budget limitations" = "budget problems"
then every commercial game ever in existence has had budget problems.
Budget is always limited and there will always be features that you would want to include, but can't because of that.
Re: Platinum Studio Head Doesn't Think Next-Gen Hardware Will Be As "Ground-Breaking" As The Switch
@Mgene15
Funny you say that.
Re: Platinum Studio Head Doesn't Think Next-Gen Hardware Will Be As "Ground-Breaking" As The Switch
Re: Monolith Soft's Takahashi Tetsuya Talks Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition In This Translated Famitsu Interview
Re: Nintendo of America Files Two New Lawsuits Against Switch Hack Resellers
@Araquanid
You are throwing around a lot of claims that are just not likely.
In fact, i would say that stuff like
"I'm aware of how large pirating has become on the switch (I'm convinced everybody just does it now)"
and
"nintendo game replayability isn't as intriguing or polished as the other consoles"
are quite far fetched things to say, especially the former line.
Re: Nintendo Says It Will Continue To Increase The Appeal Of The Switch Online Service
@ArtiomNLS It kinda is my cup of tea.
Best regards,
an Alien
Re: We Won't Get A Nintendo Direct This June For E3, Says Report
Apart from the fact that there won't be a Direct, this could mean a lot of things or maybe nothing.
Could mean, no game announcements or they could just announce the games without a Direct.
Could mean, no more major games in 2020, or maybe not, because those games would be very far in development already and they can bugfix from homeoffice.
...
Lots of possibilities and we can't possibly know, so at this point I take it as it is said: Probably no Direct in June, that is all.
Apart from that, nothing would really surprise me either.
Re: One Month Later, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Review-Bombing Is Only Getting Worse
@Yorumi There are a lot of games out there where I could understand your stance. AC is not one of them...
As was already mentioned, you are clearly missing the point of Animal Crossing.
This game isn't about "completing" it and with that, your entire argument basically falls apart.
Re: Gamescom 2020 Officially Cancelled, Digital Event Now In The Works
@theJGG I have no idea how Directs are supposed to replace Gamescom.
There aren't even a lot of game announcements during Gamescom...
It's about being there, trying out future games and having a great day.
Re: Nintendo Switch 10.0.0 Firmware Update Supposedly "Adds Preliminary Support For A New Hardware Model"
@chocolate_supra Or make the dock, No dock at all.
Make it a system that is generally able to work by itself and make the original Switch or Lite connect over wireless.
Now you have a more powerful home only Switch version and a second screen.
Re: Random: #RipFortnite Is Trending On Twitter, As Players Protest Against Current State Of The Game
Re: Nintendo Tells Customers To Stop Using Alcohol-Based Products To Clean The Switch
Re: The Definitive Edition Of Xenoblade Chronicles Won't Include Any Extras From The 3DS Port
@Judal27
I am with @GoblinKing86 on this one.
All I am ever seeing is gimmicks being locked behind amiibos...
I think the only game where amiibos acutally give you an interesting function is Smash. Even that one is debatable...
In most cases, you are getting some items which ultimately make the game a little easier. Personally, I do not even want that to happen.
I have some Amiibos and I basically never used them, because the unlocks are so uninteresting,
which is fine by me, it shouldn't lock out anything meaningful and they are nice figurines either way.
Re: Review: Saints Row IV: Re-Elected - Marvellously Madcap Open-World Fun
@SupaWaluigi I would go for 3, personally.
Re: Talking Point: Jargon-Heavy Xbox Series X And PS5 Reveals Vindicate Nintendo's Approach
"Nintendo used the core concept of the hardware to sell the dream, rather than a list of meaningless numbers that most casual players won't understand."
Out of experience from previous consoles, I dare say at least 95% of people talking about it don't really understand these numbers. Casual or not does not matter.
And the reason why is:
"The latter pair are engaged in a war of technical power; they're fighting for the title of the most powerful home console and that's why teraflops and compute units in GPUs matter; these are the metrics upon which victory will ultimately be decided for many buyers."
Re: Review: Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition - The Best Version Of The Best Devil May Cry
@bluedogrulez
DMC 3 was the first game in the series that really defined what it means to be a DMC game as we know the series today.
So what you are saying is indeed true.
If you liked Bayonetta, there is a high chance you will also like at least DMC 3, 4 and 5.
Re: Review: Two Point Hospital - Arguably The Best Version Of An Acclaimed Modern Classic
@Moroboshi876
I see.
But yeah, this is only such a timesink if you want it to be. It's also possible to just play through it and the game has more than enough content that it is worth it just for that, I'd say.
Re: Review: Two Point Hospital - Arguably The Best Version Of An Acclaimed Modern Classic
@Moroboshi876 I am not sure what you mean.
There is nothing in this game that requires you to play every day.
While there Isn't a story, it is simply a level based game.
You finish a level and advance to the next, unless you don't want to.
So you finish the game once you complete the last level.
Re: The Switch Is "Teetering On The Brink Of Becoming Outdated", Says The Financial Times
Ironically, if Nintendo shares do rise further up in the future, it will be partly because of publications like the financial times.
They make people hesitant to buy more shares, causing the value to stay lower than it could be.
If Nintendo proves them wrong in the future, share prices could go up just because of that.
It is still a risky buy right now though.
Re: The Switch Is "Teetering On The Brink Of Becoming Outdated", Says The Financial Times
This shows the problem of these kind of publications very well, a prime example if you will.
These guys know how to work with numbers, they know how to work with numbers and they know how to read a chart, they also know what is going on in business.
But that all being said, with markets like this one, they do not understand the market itself at all.
To counter some of there arguments:
"The Japanese gaming company has yet to adapt to a market moving rapidly away from consoles"
-> Just because sales on the likes of smartphones rise, does not mean that the sales of traditional consoles sales will drop. No one plays on a phone INSTEAD of a console, in truth there is a time and demographic for both options. One does not eat much from the other. The only thing that could fight the consoles (besides PC) is...
"Cloud gaming"
-> Currently there is no cloud gaming service on the horizon that looks like it could seriously challenge anything. The most promising product (Stadia) just failed miserably. (It was the only one that had the necessary marketing in the first place)
"The origninal Switch dropped in sales"
-> It dropped in sales partly BECAUSE of the Light...
"No new Console this year"
-> Fair point considering PS and Xbox this year.
What I do agree on is the conclusion. This seems like a bad moment to buy Nintendo shares, like the article says there is not really that much reason to believe that it will rise even further. Would be a risky buy at best.
Re: Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa Thinks Cloud Gaming Is "A Long Way Off"
@Kalmaro
Cloud gaming works for some people, but doesn't work well for most people on this planet.
Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 Contains A Nintendo Switch Controller Image
Red Dead Redemption is on Steam.
Steam has Switch Pro Controller support for all games.
Having a Pro Controller image makes sense, even if just because of that.
Re: Random: Star Wars Director Appears To Use Pokémon GO To Comment On Angry Fans
Re: Two Point Hospital Now Launching In February With Two Expansions Included
@SmaMan @Anti-Matter
A bright and very humorous game about managing a hospital and curing as many people as possible...
Re: Japanese Charts: Pokémon Sword And Shield Is Still Flying Off Shelves As Switch Dominates
@frogopus
That is also something I am thinking again and again.
Re: Japanese Charts: Pokémon Sword And Shield Is Still Flying Off Shelves As Switch Dominates
@Yorumi Ok, seriously now.
There is a lot to like about this game, compared to earlier gens:
Graphics are, like them or not, far superior to previous Pokemon games, even if it was just for the 1080p alone (which it isn't).
Also as someone who likes playing Fifa, but isn't buying it every year, because I think the changes are not enough:
Comparing this to the changes from any Pokemon gen to any other is ridiculous.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Verdict On Pokémon Sword And Shield
@QueenKittenWrite If you only see the fact that I have compared these games at all and didn't try to understand what I was talking about, then I daresay it is you, who ist part of the problem on why the fanbase gets so ridiculously toxic.
But it is not like I wasn't expecting this response. This really just proves my point for most people that remember how both games look in detail.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Verdict On Pokémon Sword And Shield
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Verdict On Pokémon Sword And Shield
And btw.: Yes I do realise that people will scratch their heads reading my comparison with BotW, but I chose this example very intentional.
Some things in that game look like hot garbage, probably worse than in any other Switch game. There are framerate problems as well and it has lower resolution on averege.
Yet the game is (rightfully) regarded as beautiful.
If you do not understand how that could be, this is something you should think about.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Verdict On Pokémon Sword And Shield
I don't really get the hate for the graphics.
Re: Ninja Thinks Pro Players And Streamers Who Cheat Should Be Treated Differently
Yes, the stakes are higher, but that is kinda part of the job description. If you do not like that, than I would suggest taking a different job, though it might be a bit hard to find a job that you can not lose due to some kind of misbehavior...
But don't worry there is an easy solution to avoid this kind of punishment for cheating: DON'T DO IT
Shouldn't be that hard.
Re: Atlus Is Releasing Persona 5 Scramble In Japan Next February
@Xansies I completely understand that. It would be great if P5 was being ported to Switch, as it is an amazing game.
What I am upset about is people making connections that make no sense.
We don't get P5? Then we don't want P5S either!!!
-> This kind of stuff.
Re: Atlus Is Releasing Persona 5 Scramble In Japan Next February
Also, can we stop this whole "... needs to happen, or else..." nonsense?
It is seriously annoying to see people, again and again and again, behave like they are entitled to something even though they are not.
Can't we just go back to enjoying games, simply because they are good? P5S might be a perfectly good game even without P5.
Re: Atlus Is Releasing Persona 5 Scramble In Japan Next February
@Ralizah That is the annoying thing about these kinds of rumors.
If the rumor turns out to be true: Surprise ruined!
If the rumor does not turn out to be true: Massive dissapointment!
No matter how it turns out, taking such rumors seriously doesn't get us anywhere...
Re: A Revised Nintendo Switch Pro Controller Has Been Spotted In Stores
Re: CD Projekt Red "Probably" Won't Port Cyberpunk 2077 To Nintendo Switch
But is it possible? Yes, always.
