Re: Poll: How Hyped Are You For Nintendo's E3 Direct?

KingdomTears

@darkswabber - as much as Odyssey 2 would be an amazing reveal I think it's pretty darn unlikely for this E3 - a few reasons why; they just released 3D World + Bowsers Fury and have Mario Rabbids 2 and Golf coming soon so there's already a lot of Mario going on already after all the 35th-anniversary stuff but mainly because the Mario movie is planned for September '22 and you just know they'll be saving a tent-pole Mario to coincide with that - I expect we'll hear about the next Mario platformer early next year. However, this is Nintendo so you never know what they might pull out of the bag!

Re: There's An Indie Paper Mario-Like In The Works, And It's About Ghosts

KingdomTears

@KateGray thanks for the heads up on this one - looks great! Looking at all the comments it seems really obvious that there's a lot of really great looking indie (+ a few non-indie) games looking to fill gaps left by Nintendo's missing franchises. For instance as a massive fan of the original Star Fox games I'm looking forward to Ex-Zodiac and Whisker Squadron. Could be a good basis for an article (or series of articles) looking at alternatives to some of these beloved classics that Nintendo chooses to ignore or reinvent in ways that change what we loved about the series in the first place?

Re: Review: Control: Ultimate Edition - A Highly Convincing Proof-Of-Concept For Cloud Gaming On Switch

KingdomTears

@RudyC3 Yes - Thank you! It bothers me so much that this is never brought up in these conversations. Like, if I was to say that a car's maximum speed is 50mph and therefore anyone should be able to get to their local shop in 5 minutes or less, it would be obviously untrue for many as I wouldn't be taking into consideration the distance between each person and their closest shop - and yet, this simple concept seems to get overlooked every time when it comes to streaming games via the cloud.

Re: Video: Does Cloud Gaming Work On The Nintendo Switch?

KingdomTears

Anyone else thinking that maybe they are introducing these cloud versions of games so when they release a more capable "pro" version of the Switch in the new year you'll have the option to run these more processor-intensive games natively on the upgraded systems while the cloud versions will provide access to the games for those who don't want (or can't afford) to upgrade? Maybe pie in the sky thinking but could be an interesting take

Re: Nintendo Treehouse: Live Returns Later Today - Tune In To See Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity And Pikmin 3

KingdomTears

@Mikeopferman As the apparently third and final person who played Pikmin 3 I'm afraid to say it wasn't for me at all. Gave up on it through boredom during the final level 🤷‍♂️ it's also incredibly disturbing for a Nintendo game (alien race descends on planet and proceeds to murder fauna for their own gain, presented as a light-hearted romp)

Re: Feature: The Best Nintendo Switch Fitness And Exercise Games To Welcome In The New Year

KingdomTears

@tendonerdyeah perhaps you're right - I was under the impression that it had sold fairly well, but can see that it might be too much effort to put together DLC if Nintendo thinks it won't sell particularly well. I'm based in the UK (London) and there are plenty of options for exercising outside or gyms, however, it's too cold for outside excerise atm and I can't stand gyms so really hoping I can use Ring Fit for the long haul.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Switch Lite Might Not Be For You, But It Will Be A Smash Hit With My Family

KingdomTears

Have absolutely no interest in purchasing a Switch Lite but couldn't be happier about the announcement, while it's always seemed inevitable that the Switch was designed to replace both the Wii U and the 3DS, Nintendo have dropped several hints in the past that this might not be the case: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/06/nintendo_is_considering_a_successor_to_the_3ds_according_to_its_new_president

Personally, I always lamented having to buy a portable system in addition to a home console order to play every Nintendo release that interested me, especially when it came to the huge droughts in quality releases that we saw during extended periods in both the Wii and Wii U eras. One of the biggest draws of the Switch therefore was the possibility of the consolidation of both Nintendo's home and handheld console division's gaming output all being released onto a single system. Nintendo have previously positioned the Switch as a home console https://www.polygon.com/2016/10/20/13347910/nintendo-switch-home-gaming-system and therefore a direct replacement for the Wii U but the Lite version can only be a replacement 3DS finally, making this dream of a single system for both console and handheld titles into a reality.

I think it's clear that upcoming titles such as Link's Awakening and Pokemon Sword & Shield would have been released for a handheld system if Nintendo were continuing with their two system approach.

Maybe now that Nintendo are starting to run out of Wii U titles to port to Switch we might start seeing 3DS titles ported over as well? I certainly wouldn't balk at a HD port of Samus Returns or Kid Icarus: Uprising turning up on Switch at some point in future.

Re: Feature: Things We’d Love To See In Super Mario Maker 2 On Switch

KingdomTears

Ok if we're allowed to suggest the unlikely:

1) customisable physics - if for example the original Super Mario Land is added as a skin, then Nintendo would need to implement the individual physics of each game into the skins (which I'm totally down for) as that game wouldn't work at all with the physics of the other games but I'd like them to go a step further and allow users to customise the physics themselves (i.e sliders affecting jump height, fall rate, stopping speed etc etc).

2). Developer videos - the original game suffered a bit in the fact that the majority people can't make well designed mario levels to save their lives (me included sadly), therefore I'd be great if Nintendo included a few videos of their developers explaining some best practices and pitfals when designing levels to help us along (ones from Shigsy would be especially appreciated)

3) regular events - similar to Splatfests etc, Nintendo could hold an event once every month or two where they announce a particular theme and creators have a week to submit their best level that matches the designated criteria. At the end Nintendo could announce a winner and a few runners up for the best designed levels and even hand out some prizes (I'm thinking eShop points). They could even go so far as to string all of the winning levels into a mini game along with an overworld map at the end of the year.

4) allow users to reskin characters and items themselves. This one's pretty unlikely but would add a huge amount of potential to the game.

I didn't play the original game later in the Wii U's life but did they ever implement a better way to search for user generated content within the game itself? That would definitely be a big addition for me.

A few of the ones mentioned by NL above, such as music creation tools etc would be wonderful also.

So much potential!

Re: Random: The Conspiracy Chatter Is Growing: Maybe There Is No Star Fox Grand Prix

KingdomTears

Oh man, this reminds me of that time Super Mario Galaxy 2 was near to release and there were all sorts of rumours about Sonic being a playable character - here's one from this very site: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2010/02/sonic_playable_in_super_mario_galaxy_2

Of course it turned out to be total nonsense, however I remember in certain portions of the game Yoshi would eat a hot pepper and the gameplay would turn distinctly Sonic-esc with Yoshi running at full speed around the levels and thinking to myself - oh that's probably where that bat s#@t crazy rumour came from!

I would have loved this Star Fox GP rumour to be true but personally I feel this pretty much confirms that isn't the case, for better or for worse.

Re: Feature: 10 Ways The Nintendo Switch Can Have Its Best Year Yet

KingdomTears

I'm trying to work out when the already announced 2019 Nintendo published Switch titles are going to arrive and on paper it already looks like a really, really solid year.

I find it hard to believe that Nintendo hasn't at least got one big announcement for release this year (after all Super Mario Odyssey, Arms, Splatoon 2, Mario Tennis Aces, Super Mario Party, Smash Ultimate etc. were all released in the same year they were announced) therefore I hope it's not too much of a stretch to think we might get Metroid Prime 4 as the big holiday game this year.

This is my guess at the release schedule for Switch on 2019 which isn't too outlandish considering what's already been announced but would be absolutely amazing if true (imo):

Jan - New Super Mario Bros U. Deluxe
Feb -
Mar - Yoshi’s Crafted World
Apr - Fire Emblem: Three Houses
May
Jun - Daemon x Machina
Jul - Animal Crossing
Aug
Sep
Oct - Luigi’s Mansion 3
Nov - Pokemon Gen 8
Dec - Metroid Prime 4
