Re: Random: Here's Every Game Music Reference In The Latest Super Mario Movie Clip

KingdomTears

The music sounds great, and happy that they are utilising the themes from various games, but did anyone else just feel like it was information overload watching that trailer for the first time?

There was so much going on and with a different theme popping up every few seconds I was struggling to keep up with what was happening on screen as my ears kept on going "oh, where do I recognise this from?" - God knows what 80-90 minutes of this would do to my aging brain 😵

Re: Talking Point: How Were You Introduced To Metroid?

KingdomTears

First was Metroid Prime 3 on Wii that my brother bought me for xmas one year, I really wasn't into first-person shooters at the time and gave up pretty early on. Then tried Fusion with the 3DS Ambassador program, but got bored after about 2/3rds of the way in. At that point, I just figured Metroid wasn't for me. Then when the SNES mini got released I decided to give Super a go and absolutely loved it from start to finish. I've only played one other Metroid since (Dread) and loved that too. Really hoping the Prime remake rumours are true so I can finally get around to trying it out also!

Re: Mario Strikers: Battle League Update Adds Daisy, Shy Guy, And More

KingdomTears

Agree with everyone mentioning that GaaS titles shouldn't be full price at launch. Honestly Nintendo should add the base version of games like this (Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario Strikers, Mario Party, Switch Sports) for free as part of the NSO expansion pack and then charge small amounts for extra characters, maps or story modes with a season pass option to get all of the additions at a single cost. I'm a bit confused as to why they keep following the current model as it just seems to be annoying their loyal fan base, but guess these titles sell well to families, so Nintendo doesnt care

Re: Bayonetta 3 Has A "Naive Angel Mode" For People Who Don't Want To See Bums

KingdomTears

@Clammy Okay. Why I incorrectly interpreted your comment as a joke was because you purposefully took my comment out of context and made it about guns when it was clearly prefaced with a comment about combining sex and videogames. I now see that you were merely incensed by the idea that I was cool with gun violence in videogames, but not nudity in videogames - which would be fair if I had actually said that.

For the record, I'm really not particularly enamored with gratuitous violence in videogames either. I will say this, however: There is a marked difference between violence against other human beings or animals within games and violence against fantastical undead demons that are intended to represent pure evil.

Therefore I'd like to refute your claim of "pure hypocrisy" on the grounds that this really isn't like-for-like.

Re: Bayonetta 3 Has A "Naive Angel Mode" For People Who Don't Want To See Bums

KingdomTears

This is really cool actually. I played the demo for Bayo2 back in the Wii U days and just couldn't see myself playing through the whole thing as the nudity just didn't sit well with me (videogames and sex aren't something I'm looking to crossover personally; more power to you if you get off on this kind of thing). This would actually make me much more inclined to play it with this option.

Re: Poll: What Are You Hoping To See In The Nintendo Direct Mini?

KingdomTears

@mariomaster96 I believe bayo3 and Mario rabbids2 would be second-party titles, since they are created by third party devs but published by Nintendo directly. Doesn't mean that they definitely won't show up however - these two games have been big question marks on Nintendo's release schedule for the 2nd half of 2022 so it would make sense for them to have some kind of presence at the show.

Re: Switch Online N64 Controllers Were Restocked Today, Did You Get One? (North America)

KingdomTears

My god, this is really starting to annoy me as well.

Honestly, surely there's a way that Nintendo could tie sales to individual switch online accounts (since you need at least the basic service to order these) and then lock the controllers sold to only be able to be used with the account sold to for 6-12 months? That may be a bit of a drastic measure but would solve the scalpers issue and only needs to be in place while they are in such high demand / short supply.

Re: Random: Pixel Artist Reimagines Super Mario Sunshine As A GBA Release

KingdomTears

@blindsquarel same here on your top 3. I actually hated sunshine the first two times I tried to play it - finally got into it last year with the all-stars re-release and (i think mainly because they fixed the camera controls) absolutely loved it. My list would be:

1). Galaxy 2
2). Galaxy
3). Sunshine
4). 3D Land
5). Bowser's Fury
6). 3D World
7). Odyssey
8). 64

That being said, to me even the worst game (64) is still an 8/10

Re: Feature: Hot Zelda: Link To The Past Takes From '90s Game Mags, 30 Years Later

KingdomTears

I was a regular buyer of Nintendo Magazine System back in the day but somehow their review past me by completely. It was only several issues later when they ran an article on the best SNES games and ALttP beat out Mario World to #1 that I took notice of the game. I ended up buying a second-hand copy from some guy via auto-trader and ended up loving the game more than words can say.

Re: Round Up: It's April Fools' Day, Here Are The Best Gaming Gags We've Seen

KingdomTears

That stacker mockup would solve a long-running issue I have with Ring Fit Adventure, as it is not possible to purchase a digital copy of the game so I'm forever having to switch out whatever other game I'm playing so I can excercise in the mornings (I'd even pay another £70 for the game to own a digital copy, if that was an option). Would be so happy if someone made this a reality.

Re: Feature: 16 Theories About Link's Weird Arm In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2

KingdomTears

I've definitely been thinking the same about a few of these theories such as the circular time line and the arm belonging to Ganon/Demise. Was thinking that Zelda might fulfil the role of the Goddess Hylia in having her role in the game focused around sending the land back into the sky. Sad that we'll have to wait at least another year to find out if any of these are true!

Re: Rumour: A New Zelda: BOTW 2 Name Is Gaining Traction Online...

KingdomTears

Yeah, I don't buy into this rumour at all tbh.

Maybe it's the Wario Land article that NLife just put up, but was just thinking that maybe Nintendo will drop the "Legend of Zelda" part of the name and go forward with "Breath of the Wild" as the series name instead (basically a spin-off). Similar to what they did with the Wario and Yoshi series:

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 > Wario Land 2
Super Mario World > Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island > Yoshi's Island DS

Maybe the sequel therefore will be just Breath of the Wild: <something>

I'll take a punt at Breath of the Wild: Demise's Curse

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask Joins Switch Online's N64 Library Next Week

KingdomTears

I'm of the opinion that the Expansion Pack isn't seen by Nintendo as a retro-games service at all, but instead a push towards a subscription tier for their software-as-a-service model. Like the Nintendo Switch Online service, which is primarily about playing games online with cloud saves, etc. The NES and SNES games should merely be seen as the cherry on top.

We've seen Nintendo work towards a SaaS model for years now (the original Splatoon followed this model with a bare-bones initial release followed by a slow drip-feed of new courses and weapons - I'm sure there'll be other examples that happened prior to this), and recently they have kept gamers locked into titles like Smash and Mario Kart tour by providing new items/courses/characters to play with over a long period of time. It only makes sense that they want gamers to keep coming back to their existing games (many of which have sold in ridiculously high numbers) but also charge for the extra content. That's why Mario Kart 8's dlc is stretched out over 2 years and that's why the N64 service is drip-feeding games to us. They want to keep you coming back, not give you everything at once, and then be done with it after a week or two. It also explains why the expansion pass is more than the price of NSO itself.

I really think we're going to see more "season pass" style dlc for existing games (think new Mario Odessey kingdoms being rolled out one at a time every 6-8 weeks) and most of the upcoming games and recently released games (Splatoon, Mario Strikers, Pokemon: Legends Arceus) will have extra content added over a period of time that will be available for free with the Expansion Pack.
