Shovel Knight may no longer be a Nintendo console exclusive, but the game is still one of our personal favourites on the 3DS and Wii U eShops - and it's about to get even better thanks to some free DLC.
Showcasing the Plague Knight, Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows will be delivered entirely free of charge. In case you weren't pumped about it already, Yacht Club Games staffers Nick Wozniak and Sean Velasco are here to give three reasons why you should be counting down the days until this content drops.

Whilst I enjoyed Mario Kart 8 more than any other game last year, Shovel Knight was my personal favourite game as it not only nailed the whole 8-bit retro aesthetic, the game was also really good fun - as well as offering a worthwhile challenge - to boot.
More Shovel Knight is great!
The only reason I'm even interested in the DLC is Mona. I wanna know how she's involved with Plague Knight, everything else is just a metter of "play once, then never again", if it's made the same way as the main game.
urgh i still havent finished shovel knight. need to finish the last 2 or 3 levels

Oh cool i just bought it a few weeks ago and finished it in a few days and thought Id never touch it again. Didnt even know it was getting free dlc
Can't wait for the expansion. Hoping it adds some additional challenge. My only complaint about Shovel Knight is that the bosses to me seemed to get easier as the game progressed.
I know this DLC is complete but when is the release date??

You know, I'm excited about this. It will be fun, but the time it took was huge and I'm really, really hoping they are working on something totally new. I mean, it's great they are delivering on the Kickstarter promises in a big way, but is this going to be the only game Yacht Club Games makes for years to come? Hopefully they are just being secretive.
I absolutely love Sean's enthusiasm. He makes for a great face for Yacht Club Games, and his enthusiasm in one of the previous interviews with Nintendo Minute is one of the things that got me really hyped up about Shovel Knight; I just love seeing people who are so genuinely excited about the games they make, and he seems like a ridiculously cool guy. Can't wait for the expansion(s) to come!

Haha. I thought it was really easy i barely died. I also love old school games like Ghosts n' Goblins, MegaMan, Mario 3 , and DKC so comparatively speaking i found it a lot easier than the games i cut my teeth on as a kid. If you want to get good at platformers i'd suggest getting good at the classics. If you can beat those kinds of games you won't struggle with modern games that are more balanced.
I'm in love with that studio. I hope they continue to make quality platformers like this.
This expansion looks awesome. I enjoyed Shovel Knight but i found it to be a bit overhyped considering i enjoyed Teslagrad and SteamWorld Dig quite a bit more. However the fact that they are releasing this new version of the game quite a bit after i beat it and with new exclusive areas has me really excited to play through it again. Plague Knight seems very interesting and different gameplay wise so it won't feel redundant. The Challenge mode however might be my favourite addition, it's a mode that's appealed to me in the past in other games (e.g. NSMBU) and it looks very well fleshed out in thee video.

I just hope the rest of the DLC doesn't take so long...I mean it has been over a year. But I'm excited to play it!

I already completed the game multiple times and got all the achievements, buy I'd still love to play this again with the new content.

Wait a minute. The DLC is the first update. It is awesome already. And they are giving me more? I love these guys.
This game is just one of the best games in recent times, even when considered next to all these big AAA titles, truly, and it's just getting better and better.
Seems pretty cool, though I still need to finish the main game, which I put on hold for nearly a year after I beat the 4th boss.
Great game by a great studio, and to top it all off its the DLC is completely free!

That's cool. You'd think they would have followed up with Shield knight being a playable character. Maybe next update.
The only problem I had with the original Shovel Knight was that I wanted the world map to be bigger. It was a jam packed, colorful, fun and flawless world, but I thought a game with this quality and soundtrack deserved to be epic.
Shovel Knight is such a polished and welldesigned gem, an the slight lack of content won't be an issue anymore with the free huge update / completely new game coming soon.
If they ever do a Shovel Knight 2 I like the idea of having it in 16bit style.
God, I love this game. Hope that Shield Knight becomes playable, eventually. Almost certain they said that she was on the cards, way back.
Its so cool that they are doing free upgrade DLC for this game. This is a company who has total class. I would like to say thank you very much. You have brought the world a great gaming experience. I hope its a huge success.

@SKTTR I was thinking the same thing. If they ever do a Shovel Knight 2 I would love to see it go 16-bit style.
