Re: Isaiah TriForce Johnson and Captain Nintendo Dude Get in Line for the Nintendo Switch Launch

Julien

The missus and I stood in line for 7 hours at Nintendo World for the Wii U launch. We met some great, like-minded people. Bloody cold though and it was "just" November.

Anyway, good luck to them. If I was their age, I'd be tempted to do the same.

@Joker13z Or be that Mr Nobody who gets in line when they're warming up somewhere and then film the reaction when they return. (They'll now need to tag team their spot to prevent someone doing this.)

Re: Editorial: Pricing Blunders Have Distorted The Narrative Around Nintendo Switch

Great article!

Those leakers didn't help, mis-managing public expectations with their inaccurately low pricing predictions.

What Nintendo needs is a European or American CEO, with a far less conservative mindset who is willing to take more risks. (But that's not going to happen.)

@Dezzy As I mentioned in a previous Comments, the 279.99 U.K. price is a combination of Brexit (the pound is now worth around US$1.25 whereas before Brexit it was about US$1.50) PLUS 20% VAT.

In the US, sales tax (their equivalent of VAT) is added AFTER the MSRP of US$299.99. This sales tax varies by state (and potentially city).

For example, in New York City it's 8.875% so the Switch costs US$325.54.

In New Hampshire it's zero so the Switch costs US$299.99. (That state raises taxes via other means such as property, car registration, tourist attractions and hard liquor).

Re: Super Bomberman R's Retail Price Has Finally Been Confirmed

@Louie6 We're "complaining" because we want Nintendo to succeed.

However, releasing 20-to-30-year-old reworks, tech demoes and Wii U ports at full price (plus expensive accessories) is hurting the Switch's chances to do so, not helping it.

Nintendo is now competing against Sony, Microsoft, Apple, Android phones and even itself (with the 3DS).

@Arehexes I've been a gamer since the 1980s so am aware how much SNES and N64 games cost back then in the UK. However, talking about Nintendo of now versus Nintendo of the 1990s is something of a moot point. Instead we should focus on the stiff competition that the Switch CURRENTLY faces in both the console and handheld space.

Otherwise, if we're comparing the present to the past, then shouldn't today's games that take tens or hundreds of hours to finish cost hundreds or thousands of pounds when compared to those on the Commodore 64 or ZX Spectrum that were 10 pounds and could be completed in 10 minutes?

Re: Eiji Aonuma Outlines the Challenges in Developing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Yes, it's a shame we didn't get a Zelda game exclusively on the Wii U showcasing the gamepad the way that Skyward Sword showcased Wii Remote Plus.

Just hope we get a second Zelda game on the Switch so it can showcase that console's unique features (HD Rumble, Multi-Touch Screen, IR Camera, etc).

@rjejr With Twilight Princess, Nintendo probably considered the Wii Remote waggle an improvement (for their new console) versus the GameCube version, whereas keeping the gamepad map for the Wii U would make the Switch version seem inferior from a gameplay standpoint.

Re: 1-2-Switch Looks Set To Include At Least 20 Minigames

Julien

Regardless of the number of mini-games, it's still an overpriced tech demo.

I would've preferred Switch Sports, but guess Nintendo want to distance themselves from the Wii brand (despite the Joy Cons being a pair of advanced Wii Remote Pluses & Nunchucks with extra features).

Re: Super Bomberman R's Retail Price Has Finally Been Confirmed

Too much!

All these retro upgrades (Super Bomberman R, Ultra Street Fighter II, Sonic Mania, Puyo Puyo Tetris), tech demos (1, 2 Switch) and enhanced ports (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Lego City Undercover, Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition, etc.) should be 40 or less.

Let's ALL buy Snipperclips for 20 (which also just happens to look like a great game) so Nintendo gets the hint that less (cost) is more (sales).
