Re: Nintendo Switch Gets A New Lick Of Paint As De Blob Splats Down In 2018

Julien

@Cosats I’m still waiting for him to explain why it’s easier to port Steamworld Dig 2 on the Wii U rather than the 3DS. Appears to have a lot of opinions masquerading as facts, without much knowledge to back them up.

Also seems to forget there are people that, for whatever reason, didn’t own a Wii or Wii U so these remastered ports will be new games to them.

Personally, I think de Blob, it’s sequel and the DS version were all great games. Happily double dip if the price is right.

Re: Review: Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (3DS)

@Galenmereth I can’t remember the exact wording but one example was something that Raynie says near the beginning of the game which could be construed as homophobic. Hopefully someone else is willing to play the 3DS demo to compare against the start of the DS version and make notes of these changes.

On the graphics front, Raynie’s breasts remain ridiculously large.

The limited edition DS version of this game and 999 are probably my best ever impulse videogame purchases.

I’ve pre-ordered the 3DS remake on amazon and am currently playing the demo. The only change I don’t like is the snippets of speech given to NPCs that aren’t fully voiced. These snippets often don’t match with any of the written text which I find quite jarring. I would’ve preferred text only for those NPCs.

I’ve also noticed they’ve altered some of the text from the DS version to make it more politically correct.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend?

Looking forward to playing Celeste but holding off a sale, especially after paying full price for Oxenfree.

And if you enjoy the storytelling aspect of Oxenfree, I recommend checking out Steve Jackson’s Sorcery! By Inkle Studios on Steam, IOS or Android.

@idrawrobots Agreed! Guess WarioWare Twisted! wasn’t included as it didn’t get released in the U.K. I believe the reason why was something to do with health and safety.

I’ve all the games on the list, including 2 copies of Ninja Five-O. (Those and the GameCube component cables are my pension!)

Re: Feature: Skin Deep With The Exciting World Of Nintendo Tattoos

Julien

"I did use to work for the Nintendo hotline in the UK as well they were good times and worked with some really good guys."

"I prefer to do original designs, where I tattoo a lot of existing characters going with something original is extremely difficult, but I do try and use images I haven’t used before or to add some sort of background to make it more original."

Did NL run out of full stops / periods for this interview?

Re: Nintendo Releases Stunning Third Quarter Financial Results, Confirms Switch Sales Have Overtaken Wii U

Julien

@NewAdvent By "kill off the 3DS" I mean Nintendo should stop developing new games for it rather than cease manufacturing the system.

Parents will still buy the 3DS for their children. I've friends who've bought a PS3 for their pre-teen boys rather than as the console and games are much cheaper than a PS4. I can see the 3DS fulfilling the same role in the handheld market. Huge back library of games available, what with DS backwards compatibility.

I still regularly play my 3DS as plenty of games yet to experience. (Just finished Hey! Pikmin. Much better than expected after reading the reviews, but then I'm a big fan of 2D platformers.)

Re: Nintendo Releases Stunning Third Quarter Financial Results, Confirms Switch Sales Have Overtaken Wii U

Julien

@westman98 Indeed. Subtract the 5.03 million sales of Super Mario Land on Wi U to (more than) compensate for Nintendo hardcore fans and you're still left with sales of 4.03 million which is only 60,000 less than Super Mario Galaxy 2 sales.

This suggests that the Switch is attracting back both the Wii home console and DS handheld consumers that Nintendo lost in the dark nights of Wii U (and not so dark days of 3DS).

Re: Nintendo Releases Stunning Third Quarter Financial Results, Confirms Switch Sales Have Overtaken Wii U

Julien

@OorWullie It's a crime that the first Xenoblade Chronicles only sold 0.92 million. An amazing game, especially for its time.

XC2 feels rushed to me. Wish Nintendo had delayed the launch until 2018. (I'd wager most of us were still playing Super Mario Odyssey when it was released.) That said, it's still a good game and agree that with more promotion, time and a higher Switch install base it could sell 1.5 million.

1-2-Switch sales are also surprisingly low. Deservedly so in my opinion though as it's such a shallow experience. It's one of the few Nintendo games I've regretted buying. (At least with Fling Smash it came with a Wii Remote Plus so effectively cost just US$10.)

Re: Random: This Zelda-Inspired Beer Looks Like It Might Refresh The Parts Other Beers Cannot Reach

Julien

@Savlep99 Most American CRAFT beers are 5%+ ABV (alcohol by volume).

Unlike the U.K. there’s not a sliding scale of higher tax for higher ABV in the U.S. which is why stronger beers are more prevalent.

This tax ladder is also the reason why the majority of British real ales (craft beer before craft beer became a thing) are 4.something % ABV.

Comparing these craft beers / real ales with mass market beers (e.g. Bud, Miller, Heineken, Carlsberg, etc.) is like comparing a gourmet burger to a Big Mac!

Re: The Donkey Kong World High Score Record Just Got Smashed To Bits (Again)

Julien

1,230,100 or 230,100? The article and headline says 1,230,100 but the photo shows 230,100.

If it is indeed 1,230,100 but the game won't display anything above 999,999, it would be worth mentioning this in the article.
As currently it's not clear whether or not 1,230,100 is a typo with the conflicting 230,100 shown in the photo.

Re: Review: Gorogoa (Switch eShop)

Julien

Would be useful if reviewers could indicate whether a game is available on another platform at a lower price. Or, at least, whether it’s a Switch exclusive or not.

Appreciate this is a Nintendo site, but I’d rather not pay over double the price for the same game just to get it on Switch when I also own an iPad and iPhone. And other readers have Androids, PS4s and Xbones. Nowadays, I doubt any of us live in a Nintendo exclusive bubble.

The money saved can be used to buy more (Nintendo) games!
