Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate Nintendo's 2021?

Josh2396

@MajorTom You're absolutely right. Looks like many people didn't even read the question before answering the poll. I guess most people just look at the game they have played and judge ''Nintendo's'' year based off that.

''Once you've accepted what Federation Force is rather than what it isn't, it becomes a much easier game to enjoy and a thoroughly decent Metroid spin-off.''
''Our score: 8/10''
Didn't know ''decent'' meant 8/10.

''And if you're more of a retro gamer, and you don't want to deal with season passes, microtransactions and so on (which are mainly optional, with games like FIFA giving a bad rep to DLC and add-ons that can actually be fun)''

This really is a new low for this website.

Indie games can be good, but I never consider them a big deal (1 or 2 exceptions aside). A few indies definitely do not make up for the lack of Nintendo games, their output has been quite low if you dont count Wii U ports. Thankfully I have a huge backlog and wont be bored, but I can definitely see why some people arent happy.

Re: Review: Paper Mario: The Origami King - A Puzzling Battle System Can't Kill This Funny Adventure

@scully1888 Yes I do know that, however you all represent the same website. And a lot of reviews from this site fall into a very ''interesting'' pattern: it is very remarkable how a lot of ''controversial games'' get 8/10s from this website: Paper Mario Sticker Star/the Origami King, Star Fox 0, Pokémon Sword and Shield, the SuperStar Saga remake, the Wonderul 101, Federation Force, the list goes on. It seems like more than a strange coincidence how almost no ''controversial (nintendo) game'' gets a lower score than an 8 on this website. Except for the obvious bad games like Amiibo Festival.

That aside,I just can not understand how a game can score an 8/10 when even the reviewer admits that a lot of the time is spend on battles that are just not fun. Even when the rest of the game is fun, it just seems a bit too high, but that's just my opinion.

Since Nintendo refuses to make a new Mario RPG, I'm glad this exists. And for those of you saying that the Origami King might be a return to the classic Paper Mario formula, it probably won't be. Nintendo isn't even describing it as an rpg, but as an ''action, adventure'' game on their webpage: https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Nintendo-Switch/Paper-Mario-The-Origami-King-1782440.html#gameDetails.

@Videogameguru50 I never said that just using an old engine made a game ''lazy''. Using an old engine does mean that you won't need to put as much effort into a game as in a brand new one, for what you need to make a new engine.

So they didn't need to put in a lot of effort into that aspect of the game. But then they just reused the same sprites as in Dream Team and Paper Jam, without slightly changing them to match the look of the original GBA game. That was the part where the developers DID need to put effort in, and they didn't.

And no. They did not remake Bowsers sprite in this game. They just used the one they used in Paper Jam and Dream Team.

TLDR: using an old engine is not lazy. But not even changing the sprites in that engine to match the source material in a remake is.
