Re: Video: A Speedrunner Has Completed Super Mario World In Under A Minute

Hrimfaksi

@SLIGEACH_EIRE It is one type of speedrunning. I mean, you do know, that 100% or no glitch or no outside bounds are all types of different speedruns for different games. Some games can be broken completely, some only to a certain ammount. You can run marios with no warp zones or warp around. All of these are valid speedruns in their correct category. You don't try to compare a 100m runner, 1km runner, a person with skiis and a rally car, even though all of these sports use "speed" as their defining trait. Just because a run uses or doesn't use specific techniques, you can't simply say, that it's "cheating". It might just not be your liked way or speedrunning, that's ok.

Re: Atari Has Reached the Minimum Goal for RollerCoaster Tycoon on Switch

Hrimfaksi

@Danpal65 That is not an established company. Those are some guys that have the licenses and the name Atari, but those are NOT an established company. All the original people have left a handful of reaquisitions ago. Now Atari produces hats with their logo. More or less, nowadays those are just license holders and they have no idea what to do with IPs, that they have. That's why it's crowdfunding, no big company is willing to put money behind those guys. For now, let's hope for the best and steer clear, because there is a big likelihood that they won't even be able to produce one game.

Re: Review: Pokémon Crystal Version (3DS eShop)

Hrimfaksi

I still believe that to be the best pokemon game. It had oriental mystery and charm, which modern pokemon games do not use. They try to model places after European or American locations and frankly, seem shallower for that (at least for me).

Re: Nintendo Will Freely Provide Cardboard Design Patterns For Labo

Hrimfaksi

@SLIGEACH_EIRE
"Anti-Matter
Pssst...
I will help you.
Later, if the Templates can be download for free, print them on paper first, paste on the Cardboxes, cut them based on their pattern, assemble them, insert your Switch or Joy Cons, Done !"

Dude is correct, that is indeed how you can make it extremely easy. And cardboard is the easiest stuff to obtain for cheap. So after you've bought the game itself (and probably tried it once with the kit), your kids would be able to make new toys themselves. With the improving 3d printing, you can even make them in plastic for cheap. That is the future, at least the good part of it

Re: Review: Unepic (Switch eShop)

Hrimfaksi

When it was first realeased 6 years ago on PCs and was one of the first indies in this vein, it was really cool. Now, 6 years later and market pretty saturated as is, this game does not hold as well on its own.

Re: Bloodstained's Latest Level Reveal Has A Very Far Eastern Feel To It

Hrimfaksi

I feel like I am an old man, but this style of graphics just doesn't work for me. Because it is so high def and all the slopes are "realistic", it looks weird to me and I would hate to control it, because I would not be able to easily discern the slopes and background/foreground. My senses are overpowered by all of this. And I will most likely hate it, even though I don't wanna.

Re: ARMS Version 5.0 is Launching Tomorrow

Hrimfaksi

Do not play this game that much (I have other games, that are better enjoyed alone), but when friends visit for a party, that's one of our favourites. Even people, who are not well-versed in fighting games can take part, it's quick, easy and when played in 4 people mode, quite chaotic, so even those, that know what they are doing can be easily destroyed.

Re: Nintendo "Spending A Lot Of Time" Considering YouTube Livestream Monetisation

Hrimfaksi

@KryptoKrunch Not for Nintendo, we haven't seen proof of higher sales for them correlating with famous YT making a video. Specifically because they do not share their pictures of sales at all or only on very specific terms (not granular enough to check against YT). Also, they did attack youtubers who monetized their games without their approval (so less impact here). But other games, especially small to middle of the road indies have shared their sales and they do have huge correlations with YT fame. Sometimes the entire game is dependent on whether there is enough youtube clout of it or not (and there have been facts about those cases). However, we cannot judge whether it works the same for such a big company as Nintendo and whether it will work in their favour if they just let anyone stream their games.

Re: Soapbox: DOOM is the Most Important Switch Game Yet

Hrimfaksi

@rjejr
For me it sound completely counter-intuitive. Let me explain:

"graphical calibur - ie not retro indie or Just DAnce - is a nice addition" - It looks worser on switch, so that's a bad selling point.

"It's Doom, a well known game for decades" - Known, but for pushing PC gaming and graphics further, all previous attempts of Doom on nintendo platforms were failures.

"FPS - not too many of those on Switch yet" - There is a reason for that. Basically, fast shooters do not work as well on any console, especially a portable one.

"M - nice to see for some of us" - True, but once again, we are in minority here.

"online multiplayer - home and portable" - multiplayer is the weakest part of the new Doom.

So from my point of view it's not "many breaking features, it's such a interesting game for this system", it's "many features, that seem out of place on this system, seems weird to put it here, might not sell".

Re: Super Mario Odyssey is the Fastest Selling Mario Title to Date in the US

Hrimfaksi

@WaveBoy your concerns are valid, but the "pixel" perfect platforming does come into play later. When you finish the main storyline and start collecting all the moons (especially the added power moons), there are a lot of challenges that require pixel perfect and very time-precise platforming. They just decided, that the main romp should be finishable be everyone and only then you get to the meat of the game. It's the only minus this game really has, but after mario maker, that saw 100% sadistic levels that were made and played by some part of the community, how can you make a mario game without a wide margin for difficulty. You need to create the game that both casual children and masocore adults can get satisfaction out of.

Re: Bethesda Adopts "Popular Internet Saying" To Promote DOOM On Switch

Hrimfaksi

@FTL Just because they are a company, does not mean they have any idea, how well it will sell. If companies knew that, SEGA would still be producing consoles, THQ would still exist, EA wouldn't have closed a ton of different companies and Wii U would never see the light. Companies do not know, how many anything will be sold, they have projections, and they are quite often, do not equal reality, sometimes things sell more (see NES mini), sometimes things sell less (see all the aforementioned failures). That's why I am afraid that other companies (and not Bethesda) will use DOOM as some indicator, which it should not be.

People like me? I played DOOM on 6 year-old PC and found that it is brilliantly optimised. So, running on Switch is great and all, but it looking even worse, than on my middle-of-the road old PC, that's just not good marketing.

Also, as other people pointed out: the price is a big deal-breaker. DOOM was 50% off a month after it's release on PC. It can be bought for a fraction of switch price, while having better gameplay (see mouse) and better graphics. I am not saying "nintendoomed", I am just saying DOOM is a bad game to present on Switch.

Re: Bethesda Adopts "Popular Internet Saying" To Promote DOOM On Switch

Hrimfaksi

@Bruh @Saego But it does not profit from PORTABILITY. It does not have small easily-chewed game parts. It has big expansive levels that take quite a while to finish. It does not profit from joy-cons, from motion controls, from anything that is particular to Switch. I don't think it's gonna sell bad, but I wonder, if that is the best game to bring over.

@Danpal65 1 year and 6 months, that is a very long time in modern terms.

Re: Bethesda Adopts "Popular Internet Saying" To Promote DOOM On Switch

Hrimfaksi

I still can't grasp, why would anyone buy DOOM almost two years later on a console, that does not help it gameplay or graphics-wise. While I am happy that it comes to Switch, I am worried that people won't buy it and third party devs will just say: "Well, we said so", while disregarding the problem that the game was poorly suited for Switch from the get-go.

Re: Guide: Powering Up Super Power - Finding The Ultimate SNES Console

Hrimfaksi

That's not the optimal original SNES experience though. Current FPGA can already emulate the ahrdware of all 8-bit hardware, wait a year or two and buy a new FPGA console, that can emulate the console on the hardware level, meaning you get EXACTLY the same features (from the standpoint of the game, the console is exactly the same) and also get lagless HDMI and other modern features.

Re: Soapbox: Breath Of The Wild Is Amazing, But Is It The 3D Zelda That Enthusiasts Expected?

Hrimfaksi

@Ainz No you won't. Replace too many small dungeons with big ones, and you get a completely feature-less world with nothing to do inbetween those big dungeons. And if you keep 100+ small dungeons and also add 8 big ones you get a whole lot of other problems: you need to move people in specific directions not 4, but a lot more times (which makes those areas highly linear), you also get content glut, where there is just too much to do (people won't do the smaller dungeons and will only try the bigger ones), what about rewards? Previously you got a whole lot of items that can now drop in the world. Example would be fire rods. If at the end of one of those big dungeons you get a huge unbreakable fire rod, what's the point of the smaller ones. You start breaking the whole inventoryweapon system. And so on. Sometimes half-measures are worser than none. In this case, adding 8 big dungeons won't help with linearity, it will clash linear parts with open world and make a mess of a game (or you need to make an even bigger game and at this point, development budget becomes even more of a trouble).

Re: Sony Doesn't Consider Switch To Be A "Huge Market Opportunity"

Hrimfaksi

I think House if full of it. Vita failed because of smartphones? Really? And 70 million 3ds are somehow not harmed by the same smartphones? You are full of it. Sure, if smartphones were not there, Vita may have had sold twice or trice it's numbers (10 mil right now), but so would 3ds. If you sold 7 times worser than competion, do not try to shift blame.

Re: Retail Version of DOOM on Switch Will Need a Download for Online Multiplayer

Hrimfaksi

@SLIGEACH_EIRE While your concerns are valid and true, DOOM online multiplayer is the weakest part of the game and argueably should even be cut from it, to prevent it from tarnishing the singleplayer. So even if they said that multiplayer is completely absent from DOOM, it wouldn't be a bad thing. I do share your concerns about putting halves of other games on cartridge, but in this particular case: EH. We are better off.

Re: Crime Classic L.A. Noire Is Sleuthing Its Way To Switch This Year

Hrimfaksi

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Don't you think that most of the support does come first in a way of easy ports? I mean, playstation has been out for 4 years and you can probably name about 20 good AAA from 3rd parties. Some of them were also ports (Diablo III as an example). I am not saying that Switch will encourage the same level of 3rd party support as 4th year PS4, but it's release year has been much stronger than PS4 one (which actually was abyssmal, even though they still had sold a lot of consoles, just because xbone was that much worser).

We already got one great AAA 3rd party, now we get more ports. If the level of support remains on the current level (not the level that was in the first month or two), it will be one of the strongest console lineups ever.

Re: Hands On: Super Mario Odyssey Looks Set To Continue Switch’s Year of Hits

Hrimfaksi

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I understand you find new Xenoblade uninteresting? With it and Skyrim introducing RPGs to Switch, hopefully they will announce some more. Next year we are gonna see one more big RPG (if Pokemon is not moved further, then that's it). Probably some 2d platformers (maybe a donkey kong by retro). I would think that they should have a slot for a fighting game (smash would be awesome, but unlikely, they might do a full-on addon for ARMS). And so on. With 20 mils sold at this point (once again, hopefully) and healthy indie support, that seems like a quite a console. It surely beats the launch of PS4 (it had almost zero great exclusives at the beginning), so one would hope that at this point 3rd party will be eager to move on this platform (especially Japaneese).

Re: Review: Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition (Switch)

Hrimfaksi

@Tate24 you do understand that there is such things as prerelease copies (they may have not gotten worlds at all, or got it much later) and review embargo (as in, most games tell you WHEN you can realease anything related to the game, specifically to ensure that information clout happens on specific date, most likely release day).

Re: Splatoon 2 Designer Explains Why The Maps Rotate And Salmon Run Is Time-Limited

Hrimfaksi

Let's translate:
We thought that each one mode is not enough to grasp your attention for a long time. That's why we decided to rotate modes, so that you are forced to play other and relucatantly sucked in the whole game and play for longer.

It is a valid idea, but it's also insanely backwards. In modern gaming you don't ban doing something, you encourage. Let's think that they don't rotate the modes completely, but give out 2x (cash or xp or whatever) in certain modes at certain times. That makes people move to those modes, but it's not as tyrannical and just makes better sense.

Re: Pokémon CEO on the Future of Pokémon and the Switch

Hrimfaksi

@the_beaver The games are never developed AFTER the previous one was realeased, franchises are started long before. Announced games are usually about 2-3 years deep in development. So, most likely they will spend the usual 3-5 years to develop new Pokemon game (and that is, if they don't move the date, which they quite possibly do). Moreover, most assets (that is high poly pokemon models) have been in development for much longer, they probably did this work while preparing for pokemon go and might have considered a wii u game at some point as well. The assets in new 3ds games are already quite well done, and most likely, will not see massive overhaul. From this standpoint, they actually need to do LESS work, than they did when they moved from 2d to 3d (BW to XY).

Re: Review: De Mambo (Switch eShop)

Hrimfaksi

@Pazuzu666 That was never a mobile game. This was developed for pc, ps4 and switch, with timed exclusivity to switch. Were you thinking about Implosion? It's not throwaway though. Sure, you can feel it came from mobile, but it has quite decent gameplay.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is Still Due to Arrive in 2017, Which is Nice

Hrimfaksi

@mid_55 XC was much better of a game. Sure, XCX had better exploration aspect. But as a whole, (story, characters, battle system and music) XC is head and shoulders above XCX (which was frankly an unfinished game). Play it, aniticipate XC2, hope that some aspects of XCX exploration get it to this new game, worry that they changed the visual style too much, that's my recipe for success.

Re: Nintendo Switch Smashes Target With 2.74 Million Hardware Sales in March

Hrimfaksi

@Octane It does. Latest reports said that it had 136% attach rate. That is pretty weird, but perhaps that is the result of the fact, that not all switches that were preordered got fullfilled, while all Zeldas did. Also, some people may not plan to purchase switch atm, waiting for odyssey and overall just holidays but are quite sure, that when they do buy switch, they will play zelda on it. That is quite possible, since the game itself is already a must have, so someone might already have it and wait for enough money for a switch.

Re: Rumour: Russian Nintendo Store Leaks Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle

Hrimfaksi

That thing is most likely true. I am from Russia, this link is on Nintendo store (the site is considered the official nintendo seller). I have used this particular store for 5 years for my 3ds, wii u and switch purchases, so it is just a normal Nintendo store with this bundle available for preorder. Although the picture is different, it uses the neon joycons on the front of the box.

Re: Here's Why Nintendo Switch Games Cost More Than Those For Other Consoles

Hrimfaksi

@KirbyTheVampire Let me explain a standpoint of some people on prices on my example. I am from Russia. I was able to preorder Witcher 3 digitally for 600 RUB, afterwards the market crashed and RUB now costs less. But I can still go to GOG and buy game of the year Witcher 3 (with all the massive addons and while on a discount) for 900 RUB. Do you know how much BOTW costs right now in Russia? 4500. To further drive my point, average pay in Russia is 20000 per month. Will Nintendo be able to penetrate this market at this price? Absolutely not. Nintendo maintains a position of a luxury product. It remains uncompetitive in many markets because they are not digital only and cannot and will not use regional pricing.
