Re: Review: Contra: Operation Galuga (Switch) - Does The Series Proud, But Best Played Elsewhere

HOUSE

@huupawel I would point out that I am mentioning the Steam Deck OLED experience, which IMHO has a better screen than any Switch screen and can run at 90 frames vs. the Switch’s 60 (or in the case of Contra, 30). There is no tinkering needed for Contra and really any game that’s Deck verified. Giving the user the choice to tinker, however, is why games tend to release first on Steam, and by the time it releases on Switch, may be significantly cheaper. It does appear that others agree in here but i respect the differing opinions.

I love my Switch so much but man, the Steam Deck has pretty much killed all the performance issues I get with Switch ports. Reviews like this, take the cons away as they aren’t existent in other ports, and you add a good 1 or 2 points to the review score. You just don’t have to worry about these issues on the Deck. The Switch 2 can’t come soon enough.

EDIT: I also want to add that at the time of this post, the game is getting on average at least 8/10 on other platforms, per OpenCritic and Metacritic. The Switch version and its performance issues are holding down the overall game on OpenCriitc because they do not separate scores like Metacritic. Imagine how many times you might have overlooked a game using a site like OpenCritic because of low Switch review scores.

Re: Review: Gordian Quest - An Engaging Deckbuilder, But A Poor Switch Port

HOUSE

I learned about this game on SwitchUp upcoming games video. I check the games on the weekly lists to see if they previously came out on Steam and this was one of them and it scored well, so I had my eyes on this one.

It is disappointing to see Switch versions of games suffer like this. Furthermore, the game is on sale on Steam just as the Switch version releases at full price. I fortunately have a Steam Deck so I know which version I’m going to get but it sucks this seems to keep happening.

Re: Hands On: The Tomb Raider Returns To A Nintendo System In A Promising Package

HOUSE

We are in interesting times fam. I have been checking to see what franchises are missing on the Switch. With the Batman games now coming, the Tomb Raider reboot games are literally the last major franchise missing on Switch. With the Lara Croft games coming, maybe there’s some hope.

Can you guys think of any other major franchise missing on Switch that’s reasonable to release on the platform?

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo Fighters Announced Alongside Main Roster

SpawnWave did a poll about which version its viewers were going to purchase and while PS5 won over Switch by about 2-to-1, it was on-par with Xbox and PC. Small sample size but that’s still really good actually and may explain why WB decided to create a Switch version. Personally I’m getting the PC version but may buy the Switch version so I can play with my friends.

Re: Grab Your Torch, Alan Wake Remastered Is Out Now On Nintendo Switch

@Ryu_Niiyama I recently looked at the top 35, 50, and 100 games on PlayStation 4 and man, the Switch is absolutely killing it. Literally the only games not on Switch at the Take Two games, EA games, and first/second party games. Tomb Raider and Batman also aren’t on Switch but feel they are only a matter of time.

Re: SNK Rules Out New KoF Games For Switch Due To System's "Technical Limitations"

@Serpenterror we’ll see though generally due to the nature of PC hardware, as I recently learned (35+ year console gamer, 0 PC experience before the Steam Deck), it may be a while. It truly is running current-gen games decently. I’m personally interested in handheld PC devices that hook up to en eGPU, kind of like how the Switch works when docked, but much better of course due to the video card. I hope Nintendo one day can do something similar.

Re: Mini Review: Severed Steel - A Heart-Pounding FPS That Makes You Feel Like John Wick

HOUSE

I think this is one of those games that has truly messed up my feelings about my beloved Switch. I was going to buy the game on the Switch at $29.99 despite no gyro aiming. I also am fortunate enough to have a Steam Deck, but because I've built my collection of games up so nicely on Switch, as long as performance is solid, I'll still get the Switch version of a game even if the Steam Deck version is 60 fps vs. Switch 30 fps. Switch I feel is better with both battery and stability. But I was curious about seeing if/how gyro aiming works on Steam Deck, so I was willing to double dip on this game if necessary. From the Steam Store, the game was $29.99, and I was like ok, cool, fine, I'll do it this one time, then something told me to look at Fanatical to see if it was on sale and yep, sure enough, it was $9.99 on that store. I was willing to overlook the 30 fps vs. 60 fps, and the resolution, but now it's 70% off, AND yes, gyro controls work great on Steam Deck. I'm wondering if this is going to keep happening, where the Steam version performs better overall, is way cheaper, and SteamOS overriding dev omitting gyro controls, is going to make the Steam Deck the preferred way to play.

Re: This Game Boy-Inspired Handheld Is A Budget Answer To Modern-Day Retro Gaming

I have an Odin and while that’s my go-to for retro games, I also have a Miyoo Mini which is an incredible micro Game Boy-inspired system that plays up to PlayStation and is out now. I highly recommend the Miyoo Mini. Also the RG351V NintendoLife previously reviewed.

I checked out the video and it is a pretty nice, has the look and feel of the Game Boy Color. I like it!

Re: Review: Shadowrun Trilogy - A Fantastic Trio Utterly Let Down By Shoddy Ports

HOUSE

@moodycat I love me the hell out of SwitchUp. Mark and Glen are fantastic. The one thing that bugs me about their reviews is I feel they are too soft on criticizing games. They routinely score games 15-20 points over the consensus. In fact I don’t know if they have ever scored games below the consensus. At the same token, I’ve run into my disagreements with NintendoLife’s reviews as well (MLB The Show scoring below any console version on PlayStation despite being on par with PlayStation 3/PlayStation 4).

EDIT: I’m watching the SwitchUp review, it seems to be running fine. I wonder if some of the technical issues are resolved with a day one patch.
