Re: Nintendo Of Europe Unveils New Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament Portal

Gibb

Started joining local Smash tournaments in my area (Austria) a few months ago and have enjoyed it a lot so far. People were very open to newcomers and skilled players shared tips (like how to escape some crazy Cpt. Falcon combos; e.g. DI down and away and save your air dodge) freely. There's a tournament about once a month, but before that starts and in-between rated matches you can play friendlies and practice.
I fully intend to keep attending these events and recommend every avid Smash player of any age (the players at the last events were between 14 and 40) to at least take a peek and visit so they can make an informed decision of whether they enjoy it or not and maybe meet some fellow hobbyists.

Re: Review: Final Fantasy IX - A Strong Entry In The Classic Series Despite Some Rough Edges

Gibb

I loved FF IV, FF VI & FF VII (great stories, great gameplay) and enjoyed FF VIII, FF X and FF XIII (solid) but somehow never played this game.
Got it right after the Direct and I'm now about 14 hours in, but boy this game is slow. The story so far was alright (and seems to slowly pick up pace after the events in Burmecia and Cleyra) I like the characters and sometimes silly dialogues. Graphics and music have aged horribly (nice analogy with milk in the review) and the slow and surprisingly hard battles (as @Expa0 has described perfectly) feel pretty frustrating at times.
I'll give it some more time, it's still a mainline FF and will usually reward some patience.

Well written review by the way!

Re: Random: Microsoft Really Digs Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Gibb

Even if this tweet is not a good base for speculation, Minecraft guy makes sense.

I'm amazed however, that nobody in this comment section mentioned the possibility of the Monster Hunter as a possible DLC-fighter. Rathalos is already in, the Hunter is just busy farming Great Macaos and co until he / she is ready.
No idea what else they got, but I'm ready for any new character - probably each one will be fun.

Re: Video: Get Over Here And Watch More Footage Of Mortal Kombat 11

Gibb

Woah watched a bit of the reveal and boy, that is way too much gore for me. I thought it wouldn't bother me, but that was just too much. I played and liked MK2 on the SNES (even though I highly preferred Killer Instinct back then). 16bit gore is easier to handle and there was far less of it.
I've heard MK are great games, but they are not for me. Also how can those fighters keep fighting after those attacks break all their bones etc? ^^ I thought they showed a lot of fatalities in a row and it took me a while to realize that those were only standard attacks. Became clear when I saw a few of the fatalities.
Anyhow, good to have such a big release on the Switch for those who like it.

Re: Future Business Shift Could See Nintendo Move Away From Home Console Development

I wonder if there will be any attempt by NL to update this misleading article and provide insight into the full context. Good thing I regularly check nintendoeverything for a more serious approach.
On the overall quality of the site: At least a few of the last reviews on NL were good, you just have to ignore the articles that aren't worth reading.

Re: Final Content Update For Splatoon 2 Will Be Released Next Month

Gibb

Ooooohhhh shiny new stuff!
Adding cold blooded into another ability seems like a really good idea, since next to nobody played it. Not so sure about that main power up, but then again I trust Nintendo. I'm curious if cold blooded ability chunks get transformed into main power up chunks or if you lose either the bomb def up or cold blooded chunks... hm.
My favourite game on the switch - here's to 2.500 more hours.

Re: Video: YouTube Content Creators Team Up With Nintendo To Promote Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Gibb

I don't get why so many people here accuse these youtubers of being sellouts and why this seems to be a major issue for some commenters here.
I watched the videos - the baking video was charming, the inkling song video made me chuckle a few times and the Villager / Peach / Link / Little Mac one was very well made (and pretty funny at that). The others were not really my thing.
Nintendo gets low-cost publicity, these people get some financial compensation for doing something they probably would do anyway - looks like a win-win situation, if you're not a negative Nancy.

Re: Nintendo Uploads Consumer Service Video Explaining How To Prepare Your Switch For Trade-In Or Sale

Gibb

Quick question concerning Splatoon 2 specifically:
If you buy a new console, but keep your Nintendo account and log in with that, are your rankings and outfits kept or not? Since I put around 2,5k hours into the game I sort of don't want to lose my collection. I know I can always climb back up the ranks if I were to lose my progress, but losing all the carefully crafted equipment sets (and given the random nature of rolling for abilities) would be quite a bummer.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Reveals Nintendo Has Already Selected DLC Fighters For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Gibb

Since Dr. Wily is in already (assist trophy or spirit, I don't remember anymore), I hope some ARMS representative gets in as a playable fighter. Would like Ribbon Girl or Master Mummy (preferring the latter since he's heavy) since their fighting style would fit right in.
I guess there'll be someone from Xenoblade, probably Elma (Xeno-X port for Switch anyone?) or Rex & Pyra / Mythra.
I would love the Octopath Travelers to get in, because the game was an exclusive, very good and pretty popular.

Other than that I have no idea what the DLC will bring, except for at least one very happy gamer, who find's every Euro spent on SmashUltimate worth it - I can hardly wait for the release.

Edit: The Monster Hunter would make a very fitting addition as well. Every attack with a different weapon, all costumes a different equipment-set. Gorgeous to look at.

Re: Soapbox: It's Not Cool To Lock Pokémon Behind A Paywall

@Kalmaro Sensationalism. You put out some crap and hope it creates enough buzz. Works in politics, works in journalism, works on NintendoLife.
Even got me to post 3 comments, which is probably the whole point of this article anyway and it totally worked. From that point of view this article is brilliant.

Re: Soapbox: It's Not Cool To Lock Pokémon Behind A Paywall

Gibb

"Upon doing so, you'll receive a Mystery Boy in Pokémon GO."
I had a good chuckle. Open up that mystery boy.

Also why are so many people (including the author) assuming that they know so much about a game that hasn't released yet. Maybe hold your judgement until you have at least played the full game - anything else makes you look pretty foolish and short sighted.

Re: Soapbox: It's Not Cool To Lock Pokémon Behind A Paywall

Gibb

So you need to own a Pokémon game to catch Pokémon. Greed! Grab the pitchforks!
What an utter nonsensical article. Could you catch Mankey without owning Pokémon red? Could you catch any Gen 6 Pokémon without owning a 3DS with a copy of either X or Y?
Your conclusion seems puzzling to say the least.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 13th)

Gibb

Stuck on MH GU and the usual Splatoon2 madness (those X-rank matches are fun and tense but really show me how far the skill cap in this game goes).
Also slowly chipping away at the challenging Mega Man 11. And I sampled Hyper Light Drifter today (also found it to be surprisingly difficult). Either my gaming skills have rusted, or I'm playing very tough games at the moment - probably both.

Happy gaming everyone!
