This is honestly my dream game. Ever since the rumours about a new 3D DK I’ve been waiting for this. And the fact that it’s injected with so much retro rare love and so many cool new ideas! I am SOLD.
With the Switch generation I purchased almost every major release from Nintendo. I don’t think I’ll be able to afford this for Switch 2. And it will be harder to justify paying 100 bucks CDN for games like Luigi’s Mansion 2 or Princess Peach Showtime. Even 100 bucks for something like Links Awakening I’d be on the fence about and I ended up loving that game!
I realized something yesterday and wanted to get people’s opinion. Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV these are CDN prices… 115 for for the game, which like is Jamboree TV worth 35 dollars? And to my understanding you need the camera to play Jamboree TV, and that’s 70.
Even as a life long Nintendo fan… are we really expected to pay 185+tax for Mario Party?
@DwaynesGames not the jungle green sadly lol. I got the n64 bundle with the grey and atomic purple controller and a copy of DK64. Still played the heck out of it though.
Love the hybrid model. Actually it would have been really great in Link Between Worlds, if they had made the 2D sections for when you are stuck on a wall.
When I had my snes I pretty much just played platformers (DKC 1-3 and Super Mario World). I think I would have gotten lost/stuck quite easily in Link to the Past. I only just now played it on NSO in my 30s. I fight quite underwhelmed. My favourite Zelda’s have been link between worlds and links awakening remake. So I think I’m just missing everything that was built onto the original LTTP formula.
I’m only an hour or so in. But the story seems super intriguing, the gameplay seems very unique and I love the character and world design. Only thing I don’t like so far is the visuals/performance seems a little rough around the edges.
@canaryfarmer yeah I was quite looking forward to this one but the demo for the switch was awful imo. I never realized how much the sound impacts the experience. The dialogue was super quiet and the sound effects were none existing. Running from the giant robot in complete silence was very weird.
I remember one of my first thoughts on the switch reveal was, “maybe I’ll skip this one”. I didn’t and it has honestly been my favourite Nintendo console. I do hope the next one builds on the switch instead of trying to reinvent it.
Dread was the first 2D Metroid I finished and I loved it. But the bosses were tough and I would get frustrated. I still love Metroid and just finished zero mission and I’m playing super now… I do use the rewind function because lately I don’t want to raise my stress levels when I’m gaming (at least not too much). I may go back and try to beat them without rewind later.
The one thing I noticed that is either so obvious nobody bothered mentioning it or nobody noticed… the number of triangles on Tri seems to be linked (pun intended) to how many objects you can echo. I believe the fish echo cost 2 triangle pieces. Presumably this will control what areas we can access until we unlock more echoes.
Honestly wouldn’t mind a twist where she depleted her abilities over time so you have to find new ways to solve similar puzzles and it feels more like a survival to the end.
Personally I think this game is overpriced for what it is. At full price I would expect Luigi’s Mansion 1+2. I will probably buy for my wife/kid though because Luigi’s Mansion 3 is their favourite game to play and they haven’t played 1 or 2.
I love games based on mythology. If I can learn about a culture and beliefs outside of gamings big three (Norse, Greek, Egyptian) I think that’s really cool. I also think playing as a character who isn’t like you is a great way to empathize with other people.
Absolutely love the 2D Country games. So I would love another one that rivals tropical freeze. But breathing some new life into the series would also be great… I think we are due for a 3D revisit… maybe not open world, maybe not collectathon… maybe something like Crash Bandicoot level design?
I really hope Nintendo will branch out more into spin-offs. Something new for Yoshi. A Wario/Waluigi game that’s all about the money. A Starfox revival with some sort of open world or action/adventure gameplay would be amazing. And a pure co-op game would be so great (maybe use that for Wario and Waluigi where they have to break out of jail lol)
Excited for the release dates. But I checked the preorders and while I expected Paper Mario to be a full priced game I did not expect an HD remaster to be full price when Metroid Prime was less.
I’m enjoying switch sports but I just noticed for bowling they make the obstacles harder if you are in the lead compared to the people with less points. I assume it’s to try and balance the match but it kind of feels off.
Loving this game. Fairly new to the Kirby franchise (only played crystal shards) everything about it is great. I was worried it would be too easy based on what people were saying and the levels are easy but man the bosses really offer some late game challenges. Can’t wait to see what HAL does with Kirby next.
Most nostalgic or formative for me would probably be the N64 and Gameboy Years. My favourite overall might be the Switch (mostly from standing on everything that came before it). The SNES is also a strong contender with so many strong entries in what are now long standing franchises.
@Patendo I kinda felt the same way? I enjoyed them. I thought they were good. But I didn’t get into them the same way as the games they were inspired by.
The multiplayer gameplay in this game was just so perfect. So much fun working through the levels with friends on a couch. Definitely on the list of Wii U’s defining games!

Some games are products. Some games are toys. Some games are art. All games are games.

All I wanted for Christmas as a kid was the jungle green n64 DK Bundle. All I want for Christmas now is DK64 on NSO.
