Re: Review: STAR WARS: Knights Of The Old Republic - Still Strong With The Force Despite Dated Design

FullMetalWesker

@Zeldafan79 - Not necessarily. Some games hold up better than others (for example, the original Paper Mario still looks good even today), so it's important to include how much a particular game has held up, especially when dealing with games like this or GTA III that are much beloved, but haven't aged that well.

@Mountain_Man - "Actually, it was since it was originally released for the Xbox, and ironically enough, one of the chief complaints about the PC version was that it was obviously designed to be played with a controller!"
That's weird if true; I started on PC and found going from there to console a somewhat awkward transition for the same reasons mentioned in the review (one of the reasons why I was never really as enthusiastic about this Switch port); can't imagine people having the same reaction going the other way around, but I guess it's what you're used to?

Re: Zelda: BotW, Super Mario 64 And Pokémon GO Shortlisted For The Golden Joystick 'Ultimate Game Of All Time' Award

FullMetalWesker

There's a couple there that I'm a little confused on (SMB 3 over 1 or World? SimCity over The Sims/2?) but overall, it seems decent enough for what it is. Not surprising to see Pokemon Go is the controversial one, but I can kinda see why it was included (after all, it was instrumental in popularising mobile and AR games).
In any case, it'll be interesting to see which ones win.

Re: Soapbox: Can We Please Retire The Phrase 'Lazy Devs' Already?

FullMetalWesker

@Lyricana - Technically, maybe, but even so, I'd argue that it's easy to confuse the technical meaning with the connotation you described, (to the point where I'm sceptical if that's what's actually meant by the majority of those who use the phrase) so I'm still not quite sure why it's being used, when 'cheap' conveys the same meaning and isn't so easily misunderstood.

@Franklin @Zuljaras - As I said to @sourcecode, "Take another look at the article, it's not saying there are no lazy developers, it's saying that using the phrase every single time something goes wrong is more than likely inaccurate given how complex and stressful game development is nowadays."

Re: Soapbox: Can We Please Retire The Phrase 'Lazy Devs' Already?

FullMetalWesker

@Lyricana - "To be honest, though, that is so obviously the case that it's confusing to imagine you actually thought everyone was under some mistaken impression that "lazy devs" really did mean people just screwing around, unwilling to work. Obviously it's a matter of money they're willing to spend."
This makes no sense. Why would you use the term lazy for something that has nothing to do with being lazy? Why not just say "cheap devs" instead if that's what was intended?

@Sourcecode - Take another look at the article, it's not saying there are no lazy developers, it's saying that using the phrase every single time something goes wrong is more than likely inaccurate given how complex and stressful game development is nowadays.

@TeddyBearSolid - You're missing the point. The article is saying that, more often than not, when something goes wrong in development, it's not due to 'lazy devs' it's because mistakes were made, usually with producers/management under allocating resources to a given project.
And it's not specific to Pokemon, that was just an example.

Edit: As for the article, pretty much agreed, though I'd suggest not so much retiring the phrase, as using it with a little more thought, (in other words, don't just throw it around every single time something goes wrong). Thank you for saying this though, much appreciated.

Re: Best Ace Attorney Games Of All Time

FullMetalWesker

Weird seeing JFA ranked 4th overall. Admittedly, it ends on a high note, but that's about it, and even then, it's more a good fanservice-y case than the more usual big plot/story heavy case. Personally, I'd probably rate it towards the bottom with Investigations (which seems to have the same problem from what I've played so far), with PAA, T&T and PLvPW at the top (at least as far as favourites go).

Re: Ace Attorney Fans Voted On Their Favourite Characters And Cases - Do You Agree?

FullMetalWesker

@dsparil - That doesn't really explain why Kazuma specifically is so popular. Also, the GAA games aren't that new for Japanese fans, as they (obviously) got the original 3DS releases back in 2015 and 2017 respectively, so I'm not sure how much of an impact that would have.

@nessisonett - Technically, the question is asking which case left the biggest impression, so I'd imagine it could go both ways really (in this case, TBT being so bad it ended up leaving the harshest impression on people's minds).

...Either that, or people in Japan really do like this case, but I'm hoping it's the former.

Most of this isn't too surprising, but the one thing that stood out to me (outside the aforementioned case) is Kazuma's popularity. Overall, not only is he by far the most popular character from the GAA games, but out of everyone in the franchise, he's only beaten out by the main trio (Phoenix, Maya and Edgeworth) which, for me at least, seems a bit weird. Is there some reason why he, specifically, is so popular?

Re: GTA Trilogy's Physical Edition On Switch Appears To Require A Download

FullMetalWesker

Considering these are three PS2 games, I have to admit I'm a bit baffled they don't just throw all three on the one cart, but I'm guessing they still aren't that confident in the Switch, and/or think this is a 'happy medium' between accessing the physical only market, and saving on the cost of using 32GB carts.
Either way, a bit of a weird decision.

Re: Random: Uh-Oh, Nintendo's Switch Online 'Expansion Pack - Overview Trailer' Is Generating A Lot Of Dislikes

FullMetalWesker

@MrFox - "124 SNES/NES Games + Online: $20

20 odd N64/Genesis Games + DLC
for a game not everybody owns: an EXTRA $30"

To be fair, most of those NES/SNES games weren't available at launch (I think only 20-30 NES games were packaged initially).
Plus, from what I've seen, the US pricing for the expansion seems to be worse than other regions: here, the base sub was $30(AUD), yet the expansion was still $30 more, thus only doubling the rate, and other regions seem to follow the same idea of only doubling the base sub for the expansion.
On the other hand though, the base sub also included cloud saves and misc. add-ons (such as Tetris/Pac-Man 99) in addition to the stuff you mentioned.

So, tl;dr, comparing launch to launch, it was more like:
Base Sub: 20 NES games + Online + Cloud Saves + Misc. Deals = $20
Expansion Pass: 9 N64 games, 14 Sega Genesis/MD games, AC DLC = Double Base Sub (+$10 in the US for some reason).

And as we've seen, this is set to grow in the coming months.

On the one hand, I feel this is a bit of an exaggerated response. Sure, the Expansion Pass pricing isn't great, but I wouldn't call it a 'rip-off' or extremely overpriced.
On the other hand, if the reasoning for a large portion of the price increase is paying royalties to Sega, then I've gotta wonder why they bothered including them to begin with?

Re: Wish Kingdom Hearts Was Native On Switch? A True Port Is Still "Undecided"

FullMetalWesker

@KnightsTemplar - This right here. Hearing them say things like “we think cloud is the best way to play KH on Switch” is a complete slap in the face for those of us who can’t even access these cloud games. Why they don’t at least release 1.5+2.5 physically and digitally (I’m pretty sure the file size won’t be that large, given these are remastered PS2 games) is baffling when they clearly have no qualms doing so for every other platform.

Guess it’s a good thing I’ve already got the series on PS, so I,m not really missing out, but it would’ve been nice to be able to play the older titles on the go.

Re: Don't Worry, 3D All-Stars' Super Mario 64 Will Still Likely Be The Definitive Switch Version

FullMetalWesker

@EarthboundBenjy - *sigh * No. 3D All-Stars was just another limited anniversary item, like Super Mario 35, the Game and Watch, and almost everything else that was announced in that Direct (the sole exception being Super Mario 3D World+Bowsers Fury). From what I understand, it's the standard approach Nintendo takes in regard to anniversary retro collections (e.g. 25th Anniversary Mario Collection, 20th Anniversary Kirby Collection), so if anything, the only thing they did was possibly delay the release of these N64 games so as to avoid potentially diluting the impact of 3D All-Stars' release.

Re: Nintendo Aware Of Crash Error "Near The End" Of Metroid Dread, Says It's Working On A Fix

FullMetalWesker

@BloodNinja - "They made the timing window unnecessarily tight so that the player will die frequently. It's padding to justify a $60 game"
I had a reply typed out, but @Dethmunk and @UnseatingKDawg pretty much said what I wanted to say, so I'll simply refer to their comments.

Responding to the actual article, if the glitch only happens if map markers are used, then I guess I don't have much to worry about, as I've not really seen much use for them so far.

Re: Metroid Dread Sparks Improved Sales For Past Games In The Series

FullMetalWesker

@chardir - I mean, if I'm being honest, I did too, but to be fair, that was only Fusion; these figures are listing Zero Mission, the Prime Trilogy, and even Super (for some reason), so it's clear people aren't just doing what I did and getting caught up on the relevant entries in the series; they're actually using it as a reason to try out other games as well (not that that's a bad thing, just...using the Wii U seems an odd way to do it).

Re: Metroid Dread Sparks Improved Sales For Past Games In The Series

FullMetalWesker

@sixrings - "I’ll guess they are remaking zero mission with the dread engine to be released at full price"
Just out of curiosity, why Zero Mission specifically?

I mean, to be fair, reaching number one on the Wii U chart probably doesn't mean that much (for all we know, it was just 50 people) and I'm pretty sure the Metroid games have always done well there, but even so, the idea of Dread inspiring people to dig up their Wii U and buy the older games seems a bit odd to me (especially Super, since that's already on Switch atm).

On another note, I agree with others that Fusion and Samus Returns at least probably should've been re-released on Switch, as this game is a direct follow up to those two, and Fusion at least shouldn't be too hard to bring over.

Re: PSA: Please Don't Forget To Transfer Your Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island To Your Switch OLED

FullMetalWesker

Not sure how I forgot about this, since I had to go through this last year when the revision model came out, but then again, if it requires you to have both your old switch and new switch at the same time (assuming I understand the situation correctly), I don't think it would've helped much, as my plan was always to trade-in my old switch to help pay for my new one, thus preventing me from having both at once.

*sigh * On the plus side, I'd only managed to invest 50 hours into it, so I guess it could've been worse.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting The "Cloud Versions" Of Kingdom Hearts On Switch?

FullMetalWesker

The thing is, I'm not even sure I can play the cloud versions. Pretty sure I saw somewhere that, much like PS Now, the Switch Cloud service isn't available where I am, so it's not even a question of whether I want to or not, since I don't even have the option (though that said, if I did, I'm not entirely sure I'd be that interested, so it might be a no, regardless).

Still not entirely sure why they aren't at least porting 1.5+2.5 directly though, since there's nothing there that needs the cloud to run (though if Doom and Doom Eternal can run reasonably well, I'm pretty sure the 0.2 demo can get by).

Re: Feature: So, Who Will Be The Final Fighter In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?

FullMetalWesker

"Well, to gear up for the excitement we've taken a previous list of ours, made a couple of necessary tweaks and once again ended it all with a poll."
Could probably have done with a few more tweaks, because you have 'already a Mii costume' listed as a con for Cuphead, but not for Dante.

On a more general point, you guys could also make a little more effort for cons in general. The amount of times it's basically 'nothing' is a bit ridiculous, especially for characters like Goku who have a pretty big point against them (not originating from a video game).

As for who I'd like to see, unrealistically, I'd still say Sora (if for no other reason than to have KH music in Smash), but realistically, Crash Bandicoot would be nice.
That said, I'd probably be fine with anyone, as long as it isn't a Fortnite or meme character (Goku, Waluigi, Shrek, etc.).

Re: Bandai Namco Is Changing Its Logo In 2022

FullMetalWesker

@JasmineDragon - "Let's be honest, their logo was already bland and forgettable"
Sure, it wasn't great, but you've got to admit, compared to this new logo, the old one looked positively vibrant.

I'm generally in favour of a more minimalistic design, but this is not a great way to do it. While I get that most of their video games are anime/manga-based, there are probably better ways to visually express that than this incredibly bland-looking speech bubble, especially compared to the previous logo, which at least looked unique (though the namco logo posted above was probably better than both if I'm being honest). In fact, considering how vibrant anime/manga are in general, you'd think a more extravagant icon would be the way to go?

Re: The Super Mario Movie's Release Date And Cast Are Revealed

FullMetalWesker

Strike 1: Teaming up with Illumination instead of Disney/Pixar or even Dreamworks.
Strike 2: Not using the existing voice cast, opting instead for some random celebs (Including some truly bizarre choices).
Waiting for Strike 3 to definitively rule this film off as a bomb waiting to go off, which, the way things are going, shouldn’t take too long.

Re: Nintendo 64 And Sega Genesis 'Expansion Pack' Announced For Switch Online, Launches This October

FullMetalWesker

@ivory_soul - "Everyone 10 years ago: We have to buy each individual game?! It's an outrage!
Everyone today: We have to pay a monthly fee and not be allowed to buy every game individually?! It's an outrage!
Also, everyone who complained and complains now: Buys everything no matter what Nintendo puts out."

What's funny is that I've ended up the opposite: I used to think buying individual games was the better idea (since you could pick and choose which ones you wanted, and only had to pay once), but recent experiences with the 3DS have had me leaning more towards the NSO, as it's a low yearly price for unlimited access to a suite of titles, that I can easily drop whenever the next console comes around.

@Silly_G - "As long as Nintendo want to charge extra for N64 games, surely it would have made more sense to issue occasional physical releases with all the games on a cart and perhaps sell the games individually via the eShop? Wait, no, that would make too much sense."
No offense, but what exactly would be the point in having them on carts? I know you like everything in some physical format, but for the average person, what would be the benefit in buying a cart for some largely untouched N64 games, for a system that's approaching the end of its life cycle?
eShop would've made sense if they were still interested in the old Virtual Console format, but they're stated before that the NSO is an outright replacement for that service, so in this environment, it'd be weird if they started doing both (not that I'd mind having both available, but still).

On the main article, personally, I kinda wish they'd thrown some GameBoy games in as well, just to solidify the expansion as a worthy upgrade. But I've been wanting an upgrade to the NSO for a while now, so having both N64 titles, and an authentic N64 controller for the Switch (with some Genesis/Mega Drive games as a bonus) doesn't sound too bad.

Re: Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, 23rd September

FullMetalWesker

Considering it’s apparently focusing on titles coming out during the Dec-Feb period, I doubt there’d be many if any new announcements of significance, but if that’s the case, what are they showing that’s worth an entire direct over? As far as I know, the only nintendo titles coming out in that period are Advance Wars and Pokémon Arceus, and the latter recently got a decent showcase, so what’s left to show off? (unless all these rumours on expansions to the NSO retro library have some merit after all?)

Re: Best GameCube Games

FullMetalWesker

Looking at this list again, it seems to have a few odd things in it, such as Super Mario Sunshine being in a surprisingly low position, (though I guess it's ranking is mostly due to universally high scores and it being generally considered one of, if not the weakest of the 3D Mario games), and the inclusion of re-releases like Zelda Collectors edition is also a bit suspect (but seems to be the norm here); but the thing that really throws me is Metroid Prime 2 not only ending up all the way down at 25th, but is apparently 'considered the weakest in the Prime trilogy'. Really? Has Prime 2 fallen in recent years, to the point where it's now considered worse than Prime 3? I dunno, maybe I missed something *shrugs *

Still, it's clear that Gamecube library is very beloved here, when the lowest placed game here has a score of 8.16 and over 5 titles have a 9/10 or higher.

Re: THQ Nordic Appears To Be Releasing Star Wars Double Packs

FullMetalWesker

@ottospooky - Don't see how that'd be, since all these other Star Wars games aren't canon either (the only ones that are atm are the new Battlefront games, Fallen Order, and Squadrons).
@K1LLEGAL - If you can, I'd recommend playing the PC version. The controls are infinitely more intuitive, and there are mods available to smooth out it's aging graphics somewhat.

Can't say I'd be interested personally; the Jedi Knight games always felt better on PC, and I already have Racer on Switch, so I'd be better off getting Commando by itself than in this collection. That said, if these collections result in more people buying them (which in turn lead to more old Star Wars titles like Rogue Squadron or Shadows of the Empire on Switch), then all the power to them.

Re: Blizzard Outlines Plans To Rename Popular Overwatch Character

FullMetalWesker

Not sure how this name change announcement on its own is proof that this will be as far as it goes; whether they take the necessary steps or not, this change was inevitable. They can do this, and still take further steps if they decide to go down that path; alternatively, they could decide not to. Either way, it's impossible to tell from this announcement alone what they'll do, beyond what was stated in this announcement.

Re: This Week's New Pokémon Snap Update Also Includes Quality Of Life Improvements

FullMetalWesker

@wanghosom - "Can't wait for negative Nancy to complain about this too!"
My first thought to this was "Yeah, someone will probably complain about how it probably should've happened sooner" or something, then I see this comment:
"'quality of life improvements'. Or correcting things in a game that should have been correct first time round."
Thankfully though, that seems to be the minority this time around.

In any case, it's nice to see some refinements being made to the core gameplay in addition to the free extra content. Here's hoping more arrives in the future.

Re: New Pokémon Snap Is Getting More Areas And Pokémon In Free Update

FullMetalWesker

@TDRsuperstar2 - "Free DLC is code for “here’s the rest of the game”
@Silly_G - "Sure, but it certainly beats paid DLC, which is also code for "here's the rest of the game"."
No. It is not.
Sure, there may be exceptions, but more often than not, what's included in the base game, is the base game; anything else is bonus content added on top.

Re: Pokémon Unite Is Adding A New Monster Tomorrow

FullMetalWesker

Nice to see Gen 3 get another rep, makes things a little more balanced (outside of Gen 1 ofc). Hopefully the next pokemon added is from Gen 2 (Ampharos?) since, outside of it being my favourite gen, it's currently the only gen without any playable characters in the game.

As for my thoughts on Unite, considering I'm usually not too into MOBA's, it's decent enough, but as others have said, the monetisation is a little out of control atm.

Re: Nintendo Is Shutting Down Dr. Mario World For Mobile

FullMetalWesker

Well that's a shame. Though I didn't play that much of it (same with pretty much all my mobile games) for a mobile game, it didn't seem that bad; certainly better than their attempt at Mario Kart.
Here's hoping an offline version of this or a new Dr. Mario game come out sometime in the future.

Re: Square Enix Says A Console Version Of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Depends On Demand

FullMetalWesker

@Anti-Matter - "I voted NO for a lot of reasons.
1. FF 1 & 2 you can get better graphics on PSP. Also GBA version as well.
2. FF 3 & 4 have 3D remake on NDS.
3. FF 5 & 6 have PS1 and GBA version."

As much as I'd like to agree, to be fair, the GBA versions (and PS1 versions most likely) are pretty hard to acquire these days, and what is available tends to go for a pretty hefty price.

In response to the article, has there been confirmation as to whether the bonus content included in later versions (i.e. FFII's Soul of Rebirth) are going to be included in these versions?

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Switch Online's Library Is A Snapshot Of '90s Gaming Shelves

FullMetalWesker

Good point raised in the article, but as others have said, this would be more tolerable if the quantity of the titles weren't so low. I'm all for throwing random stuff on the service, but when it's the only stuff being added, and at such a slow rate(what is it now, once every three months?), it makes what could be an 'oh, okay, this could be entertaining for an hour' into 'another day without GBA/N64/GCN/etc games on the service.....*sigh *'.

As much as I bemoaned the Wii U's slow rate of adding VC games, at least we got a decent amount by the end.

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES Service With Three More Titles

FullMetalWesker

@BanjoPickles - Not to mention the Arcade Archives (which is rather big at this point) and Sega Ages lines.

@River3636 - It really doesn't make sense why they don't take the same philosophy they took for the Wii U exclusives like Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D World of "Well, the games didn't get a fair shake due to the Wii U failing, so why not see if they'll work on Switch?" with the Wii U Virtual Console. I mean, I get they're trying out a subscription model to see if that works, but you can do that, and still work the Wii U VC library into it. Heck, if the current price is too low to justify it, why not add a premium tier that allows access to additional consoles? Or two, and have the first allow access to, say, GB/GBA/N64 titles, while the second allows access to GC/Wii/DS titles?

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting A Switch OLED Or Valve Steam Deck?

FullMetalWesker

@TheWingedAvenger - Not sure if you're a troll, or just delusional, but either way, you're way off base.

First off, the Steam comment was a general comment in response to the article, not a part of my comment to you specifically.
Second, as I said before, taste is entirely subjective. Getting a high off your own opinion and talking down to others who don't share it isn't a substitute for objectivity, it's just smug behaviour.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting A Switch OLED Or Valve Steam Deck?

FullMetalWesker

@TheWingedAvenger - "You're the one who's making this personal. I just said that there is good taste and bad taste."
'Taste' is entirely subjective (much like our actual taste sense), so you're not exactly doing much better to be honest.

As for the Switch vs Steam Deck question, honestly, why not both? If the Steam Deck ends up doing everything it's advertising, then it becomes the go-to place for 3rd party handheld gaming, leaving Nintendo the place to go for 1st party Nintendo titles, which is essentially what's been happening now with Nintendo and Sony/Microsoft in the console market for quite a while.

And that's assuming the Steam Deck delivers. Which it may not.

Re: Talking Point: Everyone Has A Bad Game They Love, So What's Yours?

FullMetalWesker

I don't know about if it was outright bad but Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire wasn't the best game even at the time, yet it became one of my favourite N64 titles and was probably a large reason by my getting into Star Wars in general.

Gauntlet Legends was another one that was pretty fun to play, though that was probably more due to it being the only co-op game we played back then.

Was expecting to be annihilated based on how OP everyone was saying it was, but ended up beating him fairly comfortably with Ganondorf on either my first or second try; was a bit confused at first, but after reading some of these comments, it seems it's not that OP, it can just throw out a crazy combo every now and again that can take you by surprise if you're not expecting it.
"he may occasionally make an example of you." seems to sum it up pretty well.

Re: Free Super Mario Party Update Gives Massive Boost To Online Play

FullMetalWesker

I'm guessing there's got to be some logistics reason for why this took so long to occur, and why it just seemingly pops out of the blue like this? Because at the moment, I'm left scratching my head trying to figure out why this update is appearing now of all times?

That said, if this is a precursor to more content (like boards), then I'm all for it (even if I have to re-buy the game to take advantage of it).

Re: Feature: Best Game Boy Advance (GBA) Games

FullMetalWesker

@countzero - (Sorry for the late reply) To be fair, I included 'almost' in brackets to convey that I thought it was almost a spin-off, but not quite, and the reason for that is that it felt more like a deviation from the usual formula than a continuation of it, with changes that more mess around with the formula than necessarily build on it (such as the mission computer, the linear nature of the story, etc.), and (at least to me) that's generally what separates a spin-off from a sequel.
Now obviously it isn't an actual spin-off because it continues the story of Super Metroid and as you pointed out, is literally called "Metroid 4" in the opening, but, at least to me, it gets pretty close.

Re: Feature: Best Game Boy Advance (GBA) Games

FullMetalWesker

This list seems to still be in a state of flux, but looking at the top 10 (without ports) it seems to be what I expected: a decent list of good titles, but lacking of absolute classics; the fact that the top 5 consist of a Metroid Remake, a JRPG that was never localised, a Metroid spin-off (almost) that's more often-than-not overlooked, a Castlevania game, and a semi-obscure JRPG says a lot (although to be fair, the Game Boy/Colour library isn't any better).
On the other hand, the fact that most of the top 50 have a user score above 8/10 shows how consistently solid a lot of it's titles were, even if none of them were stone-cold classics (I was surprised to find out that Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories didn't even crack the top 50, as I figured that was a decent enough title to at least scrape in at the end, but it seems not).

Re: Feature: Zelda: Majora's Mask Is A Testament To What Nintendo Is Capable Of When It Gets Weird

FullMetalWesker

@Zeldafan79 - "Why are any non-SNES/NES title not already available on switch is beyond me! For shame Nintendo!"
There, I fixed it for you

"He is not the Hero of Time, because he never grew up to be a hero; he exists in a timeline where he is little more than a kid with a sword and a horse."
I'm not sure if this was verified or not, but isn't the Link in Majora's Mask the one who went back in time at the end of OOT and became a kid again, losing Navi in the process (the finding of who is supposedly the premise of this game)?

Nitpick aside, this was an interesting article. I don't believe I've heard anyone bring up the idea of acceptance when discussing the theme of despair present in the game, nor do they go that in-depth into the musical theory side of things (although given there's a linked video talking about just that, maybe I've just not seen/read many pieces on the game yet), so it was interesting to hear those ideas being brought up. It just goes to show just how much can be drawn from this game, which, considering its development and that it was working from a series that was (mostly) fairly straight-forward stuff, is pretty incredible.

Re: Soapbox: I'm Tired Of Ports And Remakes - Where Are All Nintendo's New Ideas?

FullMetalWesker

I'm not really sure what the article is asking for here. The title asks for where Nintendo's new ideas are, but the article seems to be ignoring the new ideas they've been putting in (or allowing in) their existing IP's, and dismissing what new IP's Nintendo have made for the Switch as 'good but not great'. Is it asking for a new, original IP that becomes a classic for Nintendo in a couple of decades? Because (putting aside the fact that it's not something you can just do whenever) that's not a problem with Nintendo specifically, that's a problem with AAA gaming and big publishers/developers. Nintendo can try new IP's (and they have), but as we've seen with ARMS, there's no guarantee they'll be a success, and in the meantime, I wouldn't say the new ideas they continue to put in their existing IP's are anything to sneeze at, especially if they lead to titles like BotW and Odyssey.
