Re: Nintendo To Remaster 'Most Of Super Mario’s 35-Year Catalogue' For Switch in 2020, New Report Says

FullMetalWesker

Well I guess that's one way to port 3D World to Switch
A new Paper Mario game would be nice given Mario&Luigi may not be continuing, especially if it's as good as the first two.
On another note, I guess it means my recent purchase of Galaxy 2 on the Wii U was a bit of a waste....but that's vastly overshadowed by the idea of having Super Mario World (to own), 64 and Galaxy (amongst others) on Switch.

Re: Angry Players Are Starting To Review-Bomb Animal Crossing: New Horizons

FullMetalWesker

@gaga64 - Pretty much; sorry, I got the impression you were criticising it for not being the sole arbitrator on whether to get a product or not.

@DrDaisy - Have you seen the number of negative reviews there are? This is more than just 'a few bad reviews', this is almost 200.

@DawgP - Having to share an island isn't really the problem, it's that the representative has ultimate control, while the other villagers have next to nothing. This wasn't really a problem with City Folk, as that game didn't have a player-controlled mayor/representative, and it wasn't a problem in New Leaf because saves were tied to carts, which were a lot cheaper and thus easier to justify. This time around, however, since saves are tied to consoles, it's a lot harder to justify splashing out to get your own island, meaning more people are stuck on the same island, most without any means of deciding what stuff they want to build without seeking approval from the island rep.

Re: Angry Players Are Starting To Review-Bomb Animal Crossing: New Horizons

FullMetalWesker

@gaga64 - "A game could score 99% with critics and users alike, but if it doesn’t click with you personally, then all those reviews are irrelevant."
Not really, because that's not what aggregate scores are meant for. They're meant to provide an average from critics or users in order to provide a general guide to how others feel about a game. They're not, and were never meant to be, a blind metric on a particular user's tastes, so to call them 'irrelevant' based off that is a bit unfair.

@The_Legged_One - That's just how people be, unfortunately.

@Roibeard64 - The difference is that a console is a heck of a lot more expensive then a memory card or game, so it's a lot harder to justify splashing out.

Re: Feature: Best Castlevania Games On Nintendo Consoles

FullMetalWesker

So this means 4 out of the top 7 are in the Switch Collection, which isn't too bad. Agreed in part on the original being a bit hard to get into, though for me that's mostly down to its tendency for cheap enemy encounters (still better than Metroid though imo).

On the Dracula X vs Rondo of Blood thing, as someone who isn't really familiar with the differences, what makes Dracula X so much worse that it ends up almost at the other end of the rankings (17th vs 2nd)? It can't just be the sound, can it?

Re: The Project AM2R Creator Now Designs Levels For The Ori Developer Moon Studios

FullMetalWesker

@I-U - The difference is that when you create a Metroid game, you're playing with someone else's stuff, not your own; whereas if you created a Metroidvania game, you're using that stuff as inspiration for your own work. It's not only disrespectful to just take their stuff, but as we see in this instance, you actually undermine their own creative efforts because now you've got people asking "Why buy the official 3DS remake, when I can play this 2D remake for free?".
To put it another way, sure, it's fine to make fan art or whatever, if that's how you wanna show your love for the franchise, but when what you're doing impedes the creator/owner's efforts, that's when it goes a bit too far.

@MimoDX2 - Okay, first of all, to answer the first half of your large post, my point with the remake line was that it didn't matter if he was drawing from other old Metroid games, that he did it was bad enough on its own. Not because it was a remake by itself, but that it was a bootleg done by some random person that was always going to undermine Nintendo's efforts. That's the difference, that's what separates AM2R from Metroid: Samus Returns. One was an official remake done with the owner's approval; the other was an unofficial remake done by some random person for no justifiable reason (and no, wanting to make a Metroid game doesn't count if Metroid doesn't belong to him).

As for the other half, I think the main problem is you seem to think loving a franchise is different from loving/respecting those who created it. I mean you even admitted here "The developer was not trying to respect Nintendo." which was my point entirely. They clearly did not respect Nintendo, therefore, how could they claim to be a Metroid fan, when Nintendo created Metroid? It just doesn't make any sense.

Re: The Project AM2R Creator Now Designs Levels For The Ori Developer Moon Studios

FullMetalWesker

@I-U - " I think if he had sat on his talent or will to learn the talents for a sizable fan project that he would be much less a fan of the series"
There's a huge difference between working on the game officially, and developing a bootleg remake, just like there's a difference between creating a Metroidvania game, and a Metroid game. You see the difference? Heck, you could even post elaborate ideas on the internet as a way to express your enthusiasm, could do any number of things that would be better than what he did.

@hemonecrophagia - I thought I explained it pretty well, but I'll elaborate: You tried to make a counterpoint, but it relied on some contradictory facts, as listed below; all I'm asking for is clarification as to which one is true, as they can't both be.
You started by claiming Nintendo can't shut down fan projects, citing OoT Unreal amongst others as an example, then you finish by saying that Nintendo can, but they choose not to, citing examples where Nintendo (and others) shut down only projects that were a threat to their own projects (like Capcom and Resi Evil 2).
In short, Either Nintendo can't shut down these fan projects, or they can and they just choose not to. Which is it?

@MimoDX2 - "He. Is. Not. As i already stated, AM2R takes elements from Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission."
He made a remake. Doesn't matter what kind of remake it was, its sheer nature as a remake by itself is an 'I'm better than you' statement.
"Also, why does he need to be trying to help Nintendo in order to be a passionate Metroid fan?"
Because as I've been trying to say from the beginning, they're one and the same. Claiming to be a passionate Metroid fan, then creating a bootleg remake, is akin to claiming you love/respect someone, then copying their art project and publishing it as your own. Edit: If you're gonna steal, at least have the decency to admit it wasn't out of love or respect.

Re: The Project AM2R Creator Now Designs Levels For The Ori Developer Moon Studios

FullMetalWesker

@I-U - That's a completely different kettle of fish and I'm not sure it's that relevant to my main point (which is the idea that you can develop a bootleg remake and still claim to be a 'passionate fan' or that said remake was done out of passion).
@hemonecrophagia - Um, you might want to review your post there, as some of your arguments are contradicting each other. First you say there are legal protections for fan games like OoT Unreal, then you say something about Nintendo being able to take those down, they just choose not to. Which one is it?
@MimoDX2 - You're missing the main question: Why would you remake someone else's game if you're a fan? If you're really passionate about it, if you truly cared, why would you mess with it by not only making a complete game within that IP yourself, but one that completely remakes an already completed game? What would make you think it was okay to just do that? Surely you'd realise you aren't helping them with what you're doing?
"It's entirely possible to be passionate about a franchise, without agreeing with the rules of the company responsible about that franchise."
Not really. If you're putting your own opinions above those of the devs who made the game, then you cannot then claim you love them and their work. It's just not possible.

Re: Japan Picks Its Favourite Final Fantasy Game And Character

FullMetalWesker

Two of my top three games are in the top three on this list, so I can't complain too much, but my other top three (XII) is criminally underrated here (though it probably explains why the spin-off was canceled) so I am a bit disappointed by that (I mean, it's basically the third lowest mainline game, only beating the first two).
That said, I am a bit surprised at how popular XIV is; even it's characters ranked pretty high, with Emet-Selch (?) cracking the top 10. It's also interesting to notice that in most cases, each game has one or two characters that are heads and shoulders above the rest of the cast in terms of popularity (with Lightning, Squall, Balthier and Vivi/Zidane being especially notable).
Finally, it seems FFV is more popular than IV in Japan, which is interesting, given IV not only has a proper remake and a sequel but arguably is a minor staple in the series, whereas V, as far as I (thought I) knew, wasn't really remembered beyond its job class system and Gilgamesh.

Re: The Project AM2R Creator Now Designs Levels For The Ori Developer Moon Studios

FullMetalWesker

@I-U - There's a big difference between voicing your opinion on a game/series, and going out of your way to actually make a product based on that. Even doing nothing is better than thinking you have the right to just steal the franchise and use it for your own ends.
"If anything, Guasti didn't trust Nintendo to do a Metroid II remake, certainly not in the style of Zero Mission"
So? Even if that was the case, what gives them the right to go out and do it themselves? I mean, I'd love a new F-Zero game in a similar vein to GX, but that doesn't give me the right to go out and make one myself, does it? And no, whether Nintendo actually does something or not with the series doesn't change that; they don't relinquish ownership through lack of use (that only applies in cases where the owners agree to lease out their IPs to third parties).

Re: The Project AM2R Creator Now Designs Levels For The Ori Developer Moon Studios

FullMetalWesker

@MimoDX2 - I don't get this "Fan games are made out of passion" nonsense. Surely, if they cared enough about the IP, they'd let the actual owners create the games, trusting in their capacity for the job? Or at the very least, do what @locky-mavo mentioned and create something similar within an original IP, ala Shovel Knight or Bloodstained? The fact that in this case, it was a full-blown remake is even worse, because you're literally going to one of their completed works, and are attempting to replace it with an improved model. You can't do that, and still claim you're a 'passionate fan' who only loves the series, you just can't.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Tells Fans To "Email Capcom" If They Want Games Like Okami 2 And Viewtiful Joe 3

FullMetalWesker

Wait, wasn't Scalebound a Platinum game? Why would Capcom need to give approval for that?
As for the others, I haven't finished Okami, but a new Viewtiful Joe game to accompany The Wonderful 101 Remastered and Project G.G would be nice. Dunno about Dante Vs Bayonetta though, sounds like that'd be easy to mess up, and possibly better off as a DLC scenario than a fully-fledged game *shrugs *.

@SSGodLink - Why not? They've been doing pretty well in the past few years, especially when it comes to new releases on old franchises (Mega Man 11, Street Fighter V, Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter World) so from where I'm sitting, there doesn't seem much reason to believe they can't do the same for other franchises (Okami especially, given they've recently ported the original to all current consoles).
@LaytonPuzzle27 - Well if the closure was for financial reasons, then there's no real reason against potential collaboration in the future, right? Especially since Platinum now carries their own brand power in addition to Capcoms.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #31 - Ghosts 'n Goblins

FullMetalWesker

The EU one is pretty much the NA one with the brightness turned up a bit too high, while the JP one looks more like it's advertising more to 6-8 year old kids than a general audience, and the tone seems at odds with the game itself, imo. Thus, the NA wins this one for me.

Re: Talking Point: Saber Interactive's Latest Witcher 3 Update Sets A New Standard For Switch Ports

FullMetalWesker

@Saint_Link - "Weird poll to be honest, I don’t understand why cross-save is such a revolutionary feature."
As far as the Switch goes, it means if you already have the game on PC, you can not only keep your progress when playing the Switch version on the go, but can freely interchange between the Switch and PC depending on the situation, essentially allowing you to take advantage of the benefits of both PC (graphics) and Switch (portability) versions, albeit not at the same time. The only downsides to this would be having to buy a second copy on Switch, and (likely) not being able to have mods present on the Switch version.

Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Switch Online Good Value Compared To PlayStation Plus And Xbox Live Gold?

FullMetalWesker

@ThanosReXXX - it's alright, I probably should've done the same with my reply tbh (sorry about that).
Fair enough, I wasn't really trying to defend the system completely, just explain why I voted; specifically pointing out that for me, $30 a year doesn't really require justification, whereas $80 kinda does (speaking of, sorry I didn't mention this earlier, but the reason the prices are so high is because I was putting them in Australian Dollars, as that's the currency I use). Also, I should point out that I don't have access to PS Now (which I'm guessing was what you were referring to when you mentioned 'unlimited access to playstation's backlog'), so the only extras I get from PS+ are the monthly games, and discounts which, imo, isn't quite enough to cover the price difference and the extras offered on the NSO (Live Gold is another matter, and one I don't really know enough about to comment on).

Also as someone who owns both a NES and SNES Mini, there are actually two reasons for bothering with NSO: Being able to play on the go, and accessing titles that aren't available on the Minis (like Super Mario Bros Lost Levels, and Kirby's Dream Land 3).

Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Switch Online Good Value Compared To PlayStation Plus And Xbox Live Gold?

FullMetalWesker

@ThanosReXXX - For my part (Yes, I'm one of those 'poor, deluded souls'), I voted for it mainly because the asking price is so much lower ($30 a year compared to $80 for PS+/Xbox Live Gold) thus the value for money seemed better overall. Admittedly I was mainly comparing it with PS+, as I don't actually have an Xbox (thus my experience with Live Gold is limited), but even so, $30 a year is next to nothing really, whereas $80 is high enough that I'd have to somewhat consider it before paying, so for me personally, the Switch wins hands down.
That said, I wouldn't mind if they added N64/GCN/GBA etc. games to the service (if only to make up for a lack of VC).

Re: The Witcher 3 Now Lets You Save Across PC And Switch, Version 3.6 Patch Notes Revealed

FullMetalWesker

Welp, guess I'm adding this game on my watch list now. One of the main reasons I hadn't gotten it yet was because I already had it on PC, but now that I can play the same playthroughs on both PC and Switch, that reason is now effectively non-existent.
@nab1 - Agreed; being able to carry your saves over to Switch ports makes those ports much more enticing then they would be otherwise.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #30 - Quest 64 / Holy Magic Century

FullMetalWesker

NA cover has got to be the most generic N64 cover I think I've seen. Even the title is ridiculously generic, to the point where I gotta wonder who was behind the decision to do it like that (especially since the EU cover and title have none of the problems the NA one does).
In any case, EU wins it for me by a hair, due to the JP cover looking more like a poster then box art.

Re: Capcom Updates Its Million-Seller List, 94 Games Have Surpassed The Milestone

FullMetalWesker

@GingerNinja - Dunno how you can consider it a flop when it's the second best selling title in the franchise (and one of their best-selling games full stop).
@HeyItsFlapjack - Hey, at least it did better than Resi 0.

On the list, I'm surprised to see Mega Man games so low on this list; I mean the top seller wasn't even in their top 50 and that was on the NES. On a related note, any reason why Battle Network 4 is the second-best selling Mega Man game?

Re: Feature: 10 Nintendo Games We'd Love To See Finally Come To The West

FullMetalWesker

Fire Emblem: Binding Blade is probably the only one of these I'd really want at the moment; Mother 3 I can't say as I haven't played much of Mother 2 yet, but it might be worth a playthrough as well.

One game I would like to add to the list though is Ace Attorney Investigations 2. Haven't played much of the first one, but unlike Mother 3, that doesn't really deter me that much as I'm basing it more off my experience with the mainline Ace Attorney series. In any case, having a Switch bundle of this and Investigations 1 would be nice to have imo.

*Goes to the comments section to see reactions to the article

*Sigh *

On topic, while I wouldn't mind a Resi Evil series, I'm a bit sceptical on how well it'll turn out, even moreso than The Witcher; at least that had a series of books to draw from, this has a series of games that aren't really known for their stories.
Still, I thought The Witcher would flop and that didn't, so who knows?

Re: Persona 5 Scramble Japanese Demo Goes Live On Nintendo Switch

FullMetalWesker

Didn't realise the game had yet to announce a worldwide release date, but I just did a bit of quick research and found that P5 also had a lengthy delay between it's Japanese and Worldwide release date, so maybe it'll come out near the end of the year? Either way, I'll probably pass unless it turns out to be some godlike anime game like P5 apparently was.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Sold A Phenomenal 16 Million Copies In Under Two Months

FullMetalWesker

@dew12333 - To be fair, the "Everyone is here" phrase was saying that everyone from previous games was included in this one, which turned out to be the case: all these DLC fighters are new ones being added to the game rather than old ones being re-introduced (as was the case in Smash 4).

Kinda figured it'd sell fairly well, but nowhere near as well as it's actually done. I mean, compared to....pretty much anything, these are phenomenal figures for such a small timeframe, especially given how well the main games were performing recently (compare the sales mentioned in the article with the sales of the first four gens), along with the controversy surrounding the game prior to release. Not sure what's caused this turn-around, but whatever the case, kudos to GameFreak for their success.

Re: The Switch Has Overtaken The SNES In Lifetime Hardware Sales

FullMetalWesker

@Heavyarms55 - "It's not the 90s or early 00's anymore. The idea that a console is gonna have an 6-8 year shelf life is just not the case anymore."
For Nintendo maybe (not for Sony and Microsoft going by how their long their current consoles have lasted), but that's been the case since the N64, and even then, not only were they mostly poor sellers (outside the Wii) their average life-span is 5 years, so not that big a drop from a 6-8 year time period. Given the Switch has already outsold every Nintendo console outside the NES and Wii, I can't see Nintendo retiring the Switch anytime soon, outside a sudden, massive drop in sales and/or Nintendo having a successor they're eager to push out.

On topic, In terms of consoles, the Switch is doing pretty well, losing out only to the NES and Wii, but given it's a hybrid it's also a handheld, and in this regard, it's actually the worst performer at the moment, the second worst being the 3DS. To be fair though, their earlier handhelds didn't have to contend with smartphones which I'm guessing had an impact on the 3DS and Switch's sales (also it's still only about halfway through it's lifespan, so it could very well reach 75-100 million units by the time it's retired)

Re: Video: Persona 5 Scramble Treated To Flashy New Trailer, Demo Arrives Next Month

FullMetalWesker

@GameOtaku - Are you serious right now?
That's an exaggeration, no game has 100's of hours of story, and no, it's not going to be summarised into two paragraphs. Also let's be real, the only thing your average player really needs to know is the main story and how it relates to the events in this game.
No he isn't. Even if he was, it doesn't change that he's the main protagonist for VII and his story was unavailable when he was added. Again, if Persona 1 were released on the N64, would you be okay with Joker's inclusion?
"Banjo is synonymous with 64" How is this a counter-point?
"Outside of Japan" Why does this matter? The first game came out on the MSX, that's where it started. Trying to shift the goalposts by adding random parameters like "Outside Japan" is ridiculous if you're talking about where a franchise 'got it's start'.
" FE characters are obvious since they are Nintendo ips." Sorry, what?
"Jokers inclusion signaled to most of us a huge thing was happening." Did it though? I mean, did any of the other smash reveals signify anything?
"If Persona really is exclusive to Sony then it's obvious Sony wouldn't agree to his being in smash"
Not necessarily, given Scramble is being released on the platform.
"This to me feels like Atlus is trolling Nintendo fans"
You know companies don't actually do that though, right?

Re: Video: Persona 5 Scramble Treated To Flashy New Trailer, Demo Arrives Next Month

FullMetalWesker

@GameOtaku - Except Cloud isn't the main protagonist for the series, just FF VII, just as Joker is the protagonist for Persona 5, rather than the series as a whole. Saying that Cloud is okay because FF 1-6 were released on Nintendo consoles is akin to saying Joker would be fine if Persona 1 were released on the N64.
Also, not really. Metal Gear was originally released on the MSX, then ported (with alterations) by Konami to the NES apparently without consent from the dev team. So while it exists, The NES was not the original platform, and Kojima has apparently distanced himself from the port because of the changes made.
True, but because Banjo belongs to Microsoft, the only way to access those games legally is to go out of your way to purchase a N64 and the games from places like Ebay/Amazon etc.

......and? Is it any worse than not being able to play Cloud's title when he was released? Or Marth/Roy/Lucas's? Plus, there's probably going to be a recap thing in the game for those who haven't played P5, so it's unlikely they'll miss out on any important details.

Re: Video: Persona 5 Scramble Treated To Flashy New Trailer, Demo Arrives Next Month

FullMetalWesker

@GameOtaku - (dunno how this is relevant, but okay) To be fair, most characters in Smash are Nintendo characters, so it makes sense they'd have mainline games on Nintendo platforms.
As for the third-party characters, true, most did, but there is one exception, that being Cloud, whose one mainline game (FFVII) wasn't released on a Nintendo system until a few years after his inclusion in Smash. A few others (Ryu/Ken, Snake, Banjo) also technically count, but are a bit iffy (Metal Gear and Street Fighter haven't exactly been that cozy with Nintendo, and Banjo is an out-and-out Microsoft franchise).
Finally, Persona 5 Scramble is actually a mainline entry, a sequel to Persona 5 the same way Lightning Returns was a sequel to FFXIII, and given Joker is a protagonist for Persona 5, rather than the series as a whole (like Cloud) I'd say it still counts (or at least, it's no worse than Cloud's situation).

Re: Video: Persona 5 Scramble Treated To Flashy New Trailer, Demo Arrives Next Month

FullMetalWesker

@GameOtaku - To be fair, even if you got a PS4 and Switch, you still wouldn't have every console this gen.
@Heavyarms55 @the_beaver - It wouldn't be the first time a 3rd party title has been tied to a Playstation console (Street Fighter V anyone) and the fact it hasn't hit the Xbox One (or PC for that matter) unlike other, bigger Japanese titles like Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV seems to suggest something's going on, just not what.

On topic, is it just me, or are the gameplay videos becoming less and less musou-like and more and more akin to Kingdom Hearts? Not that I'm complaining, just surprised given the initial trailer made it seem like it was going to be a straight Warriors spin-off, and now it's looking like that's only going to be part of the experience, rather than the entirety of it.
Also, I like how the S in the logo at the end initially popped out as a 2, all-but-confirming it as a sequel rather than a spin-off.

Re: The Rumours Were True, A Netflix Witcher "Anime" Movie Really Is In The Works

FullMetalWesker

I'm not sure about the books or the show, but the games always seemed to lean more towards the grounded side of fantasy tales, so I'm not sure why someone thought an anime movie would be a good idea given anime usually does the complete opposite. That said, I also thought the live-action show was probably gonna flop, so who knows, maybe this'll work (the castlevania anime seems to have been well-received).

Re: Feature: So, Who's Next For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?

FullMetalWesker

Some of these poll suggestions are kinda making me glad we got the Fire Emblem guy as the final character in Pass 1; while probably not the best choice, it's still a step up from the likes of Fortnite/Minecraft characters, "Downwell dude" or literal Tetris blocks (how those last two made into a poll over characters like Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright or Shantae I'm not sure).

As for who I'd like to join, at this point, my hope is for Sora, Rayman and Professor Layton to join at some point, though Phoenix Wright, Travis Touchdown, Crash or a Gen 8 Pokemon could also work.

Re: Switch Up Your Fighting Style In The Nintendo Version Of Devil May Cry 3

FullMetalWesker

My opinion on DMC3 has dropped over the years (especially after DMC V came out) but it's still one of my favourite action games, and with the style swap feature added in, should make getting back into it a bit easier than it might've been otherwise.

Also, have those two deals been mixed up? I ask because the 50% off deal is valid in the eShop here in Australia, but the pre-order discount is nowhere to be seen (you do get a discount if you have DMC 1 and/or 2 purchased, but nothing else that I can see).

Re: Fire Emblem's Byleth Confirmed As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Fighter

FullMetalWesker

Gotta love Sakurai explaining Fire Emblem as if they were a new franchise to Smash xD

Also, while disappointing (would've preferred him in a later dlc pack and someone from a new franchise added instead), at least it isn't Steve from Minecraft or something similar.

@Blizzia - Side characters were never going to be added to the game. And given they wanted all three houses represented in one character, that really only leaves the protagonist as the only viable candidate (unless there are other non-house specific characters who are also major characters).

Re: Feature: Game Of The Decade Staff Picks - Dark Souls

FullMetalWesker

@LordMolecule - (not sure where you got 'randomly guess' from, but okay) What I was saying, was that you seemed to be saying "You can never be sucker-punched, if you expect everything" and then tried to make it sound like it was something special that Dark Souls does, when really, you could take that and apply it to practically anything and have the same effect. You see what I'm saying?
Also, I never said Dark Souls was unfair, just that it had it's fair share of cheap shots thrown in.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Love To See In 2020

FullMetalWesker

Given we're getting Doom 64, I wouldn't mind a remaster/enhanced port of the Nintendo 64 version of Resi 2. (As @Cyberbotv2 just mentioned) along with the Metroid Prime trilogy. I also wouldn't mind getting ports of the first 6 Final Fantasy games, even though V and VI are gonna look pretty bad.

@Zeldafan79 - To be fair, the fact it hasn't happened now isn't a great sign, but there's still good reason for Rockstar to port it over given how well the Switch is selling (and it's not like the game is too technically demanding given it originally ran on the PS3/360, and The Witcher 3, Hellblade and Alien: Isolation are all running on Switch)

Re: Feature: Game Of The Decade Staff Picks - Dark Souls

FullMetalWesker

@LordMolecule - "so long as you pay attention to everything" Yeah, this I think is the problem. Outside of having unrealistic expectations (seriously, 'it's okay as long as you predict everything'?), you seem to think that, if you can theoretically predict or avoid it, then it can't be cheap, which is ridiculous. If that were true, no video game could be considered cheap, as long as you just 'predict everything', at which point what's the purpose in saying "Dark Souls has no cheap shots/sucker punches" as if it were something special?

Re: Feature: Game Of The Decade Staff Picks - Dark Souls

FullMetalWesker

@LordMolecule - Knowing he's around doesn't help, and that roar doesn't give you much time to get out of the way, especially if you're busy fighting enemies.
Easily is a bit of a stretch, and unless you stop and check every corner, you have no way of knowing which one has an enemy and which doesn't. Even then, it's not always possible (and that's only keeping to enemies who ambush you from corners)
The fog wall does nothing, and good luck spotting the tiny dogs over the large demon wielding two giant machetes standing right in front of you. Neither of which are that relevant anyway as the fight itself is still one of the cheapest in the whole series.

Not really. Your points seem to be under the impression that a sucker punch = one that's impossible to avoid, when actually it's just one that's unexpected. Now obviously if you've already beaten the game, or you've just played enough, you'll know where everything is, and how to prepare, but if you haven't, then there are a few things that are likely to blindside you or, in the case of the Capra Demon boss, are just cheap in general.

And if you're still so sure the original Dark Souls has no cheap encounters, then explain the Bed of Chaos.

Re: Feature: Game Of The Decade Staff Picks - Dark Souls

FullMetalWesker

@Heavyarms55 - Dark Souls is one of my favourite games of all time, but I'll be one of the first to admit that even at the time, it was a bit of an acquired taste, the murky visuals and slow, clunky combat not exactly presenting the game in the best light. It's the kind of game where, if you can put up with it's shortcomings, and push through the games' many challenges, it'll reward you with a satisfying experience. The problem is that this has subsequently been done better in later games, both in From's lineup and in others, making Dark Souls look a bit of a relic by comparison.

@LordMolecule - "There are no cheap shots or sucker punches" Tell that to the countless enemies laying in ambush, the dragon who comes out of nowhere to roast you, and the Capra Demon boss fight.
@Nintyfan - Because excluding 2020 from the 2020's makes sense...

Re: Feature: Our Most Anticipated Nintendo Switch Games Of 2020

FullMetalWesker

A fair amount of good games here, but not many I'm currently interested in (or at least, not enough to buy them). Brain Training, Doom 64 (a game that's not listed, but is nevertheless one I'm interested in), and Animal Crossing are probably it for now, at least as far as games with actual release windows go. Admittedly, this is prob a good thing for me as it allows me to focus on my backlog, but I am curious as to what big titles (apart from Animal Crossing) are going to be released this year?
