There's a new live-action Resident Evil movie coming to cinemas on 24th November. It's expected to be a more faithful recreation of Capcom's long-running survival horror video game series - with the director Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night) stating how he worked "very closely with Capcom" on the film's development and designs.
Screen Gems has now shared a "first look" at Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City by releasing a series of promotional shots featuring characters such as Leon S. Kennedy (Avan Jogia), Claire (Kaya Scodelario) and Chris Redfield (Robbie Amell), Jill Valentine (Hannah John-Kamen), Albert Wesker (Tom Hopper), Richard Aiken (Chad Rook) and Lisa Trevor (Marina Mazepa).

Hard to grasp anything from a few stills, but I hope it's good!
Leon and Luis had a baby.
Anyhow it’s always nice to see Lisa! I wonder what will they focus on the most… the mansion incident or the fall of Raccoon City.
No Milla Jovovich?!
No Paul W. S. Anderson?!
Colour me almost intrigued.
The casting’s honestly really good. Lisa also looks surprisingly accurate.
Based upon three images, this already looks better than the first resident evil movies haha.
I had a bit of a chuckle when I read about this earlier today. At the same time, my kids were watching an episode of Victorious with Avan Jogia in a scene at the exact same moment. Just had me thinking about how much a far cry from Victorious Resident Evil is
I liked Lisa the most to be honest
Don't know if it's just me, but the stills look more like they're from a decent fan/student film than the blockbuster I'm guessing it's supposed to be.
Mind you, it could still easily end up better than the vast majority of the previous films (not that that would be difficult) but as first impressions go, it's a bit shaky imo.

Some cosplayers with torches and guns.
Oh, this is going to be so cheesy and bad haha. Such is the curse of videogame movies.
Only a few in it's history have made it above average.
@Wavey84 Remake Leon actually is better than old Leon. Capcom finally got rid of that cringe 2000's era of bad boy persona and actually gave him some depth. Too bad we still have old Leon for every other piece of media though.
From screens all i can tell is that Leon is a terrible cast Other than that it looks great.
Oof, Resident evil will never be anything more than a mediocre film series. It has nothing to do with the cast but everything to do with source material being ridiculous already.
Trying to mimic the game as close as possible has been the downfall of many video game adaptions.
Hopefully the film doesn't try to take itself too seriously and embraces it's cheesyness.
@Vexx234 warcraft sonic detective pikachu mortal kombat the old one kinda good oh the tomb raider is also not that bad
@iaLgan Only 2 on those list could be considered good or just "okay"
But I mean we are talking a couple of rough diamonds in a pile of crappy film adaptions from the past decades, dating all the way back to the 90's
That's not exactly a great track record.
The actor playing Chris at least looks like Chris, the others don't. As bad as the Anderson films are at least they looked more like the characters then the images above.
@Fangleman32 Yeah i know what you mean. But still hoping for a good movie not saying i will be the first in line to see it but just for curiousity i will Ohh i remembered the best one was Street Fighter Joking ofcourse.
Whu, wait, what? I wasn't aware a movie was being made.
Interesting to see how they will handle a RE live action movie for the first time ever.
Who is Paul Anderson? No, you are making him up. There never existed an RE series with Jovovich in it. You had a bad dream.
@SilentHunter382 Well it would be kinda weird if all the characters looked like Chris Redfield... XD
It looks "meh". Yeah, that is my professional opinion.
Very generic, it looks like a TV show, but not a good one.
Is...is this a SyFy movie?
This will attract a full audience in cinemas now? So is the pandemic actually over now? Some people are surviving without the vaccine?
Oh, come on now... no Barry? For crying out loud!
Paul Anderson was the one who decided his wife could go for the role not saying Milla is bad but come on Siera did a good job on RE films tbd
Leon looks awful but the rest look good, I'll give it a go I've seen ALL of the RE films at the cinema, it's a become tradition of mine so they got my money either way.
A bunch of cosplayers, excited about playing characters in a video game without appreciating they look nowt like em, wandering aimlessly about in a mansion... can't be any worse than Paul W. S. Anderson's efforts.
I don't get the hate with the existing RE movie saga.
It's so bad it's actually kinda good.
Let's face it they will never win any Oscars but they are a decent zombie films.
@FullMetalWesker I thought the same, maybe looked a little bit cosplay?
Indian Leon lol. Trash can destination comfirmed.
I just don't understand why they needed characters from RE 1-3 when this is the story of RE1. Why couldn't they just make a movie version of just the first game? It literally wrote itself. Hollywood always thinks it knows better when it comes to game films and almost always fails miserably.
@Wavey84 It's so damn annoying, isn't it? Imagine it was the other way around and POC characters were made white for the movies. We wouldn't hear the end of it. I'm sick of the pandering and I wasn't even born in the U.S.
Chris and Wesker looks okay, the rest not so much.
How do you guys manage to recognize any of the character?
None of those pictures make any sense to me, and I have played all main line entries 🤔😖
@Nudawa "Indian Leon lol"
I had to google this, but Avan Jogia is Canadian. British Indian father, English, German, Welsh mother. But you only saw Indian. What do you think that says about you?
@Wavey84 "lol And Jill looks to be mexican"
Hannah John-Kamen is British. She has a Nigerian father and a Norgwegian mother. But you saw Mexcian?
@Richnj nationality =/= race
And if you Google "indian" guy there are about 1000 pictures that looks like him.
Leon and Claire are a miscast if you ask me.
Though i have to say, they would make for a great Luis Sera and Helena Harper respectively!
Chris and Jill look pretty good, the bloke has a biceps as big as my thigh, so that checks out xD
What little i can see of Barry looks ok. Costume is great, but he looks a little young.
Not sure if the bloke with the buzzcut is supposed to be Wesker. If so, it's the only one who completely misses the mark then.
The monster design is simple yet on point as well.
The mask looks a bit too clean, but that's a nitpick.
What little set we can see also looks pretty good.
I think their pick for Leon (and presumably Wesker) is the only one that really sticks out as wrong, yet not offensively so.
But part of Leons character design is his baby face, the "innocent rookie", so he could have used a clean shave at least.
But we've seen SO much worse, this looks pretty promising actually. The costume design looks to be incredibly faithful!
@Nudawa So this is purely about the way he looks?
And what race do you think Hannah looks like?
@Richnj Hey man, don't let idiots get to you. Stupid will always remain stupid. You cant fix stupid. People like wavy just want attention.
Give Claire a ponytail and Leonard a shave. I’ll end up seeing it on a $5 Tuesday with no expectations. I’m not into the idea of doing both stories in one movie.
I see how RE 1 could be hard to stretch into a full length feature but RE2, in the hands of an imaginative professional, would be cake. It’s just going to be trimmed back and hurried in this.
@Fangleman32 I was just amazed by the heights of stupid achieved.
All look like cosplayers. Latino Leon and Jill don't look the part, and the same happens with all the cast. Going to see it without any expectations.
Oh now Capcom decides to stick closer to the source material. SMH.
@iaLgan Well RE at it's core is too ridiculous to make into any serious film. The only way I can see it ever being anything good is if it becomes campy horror film or abandon the games, becomes an entirely new franchise that is RE in name only.
The games plot are just too silly. A bunch of solders break into a trapped filled mansion led by a douche wearing glasses at night with a god complex who wants to unleash a super virus onto the world.
There is just no way any serious writer or director can make such a premise into anything that's not ridiculous.
@Wavey84 Yeah I was about to say it looks decent, then I saw Leon
@Richnj Hah, since RE is a Japanese horror franchise, I wonder if people would accuse the company of forcing diversity if they decide to one day make a Japan exclusive film featuring nothing but a Japanese cast.
Still no trailer. Red flag if you ask me
Considering the track record of live action Resident Evil, I'm not entirely optimistic. It does at least look more like the games. Lisa Trevor looks cool.
They better mention the Jill sandwich.
I'm definitely excited and I hope this goes to theaters and not streaming.
