Star Wars fans got quite surprised during the latest Nintendo Direct - with Aspyr lifting the lid on its Switch port of BioWare's iconic RPG, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. It'll be arriving on 11th November.
"A beloved Star Wars game is coming to Nintendo Switch! Blast off to captivating planets and join forces with Jedi, droids and outcasts in this blend of action, role-playing and adventure. STAR WARS: Knights of the Old Republic launches for Nintendo Switch on Nov. 11. Pre-orders for the game start later today!"
According to Nintendo's official game page, pre-orders are now open. It'll set you back $14.99 USD or your regional equivalent and apparently requires a whopping 15.6GB of space.
Will you be adding this to your home menu when it lands on the Switch eShop later this year? Tell us down in the comments.

YES! Thank you!
For anyone who hasn’t played this go in knowing nothing, several plot twists happen and for me this was what I imagine the “I am your father” moment experience was like in theaters. By the time I saw empire strikes back, that quote was engraved in pop culture, so I had no real shock from the plot twist. This game has a great story even though it gets off to a slow start at first.
Did have to laugh at the ‘looks like a PS2 game’ in the live chat. Ironically it was an Xbox exclusive.
This is awesome. This will be a day one purchase for me.
YOOO LET GOOO
My only concern is if this will stay true to the original, but I might be confusing it with a remake. If this is just a remastered port of the original, then I am all for it.
I actually never played it before, but heard how good it was, so I'm getting it. (And I did play the mobile port a wile back)
This is amazing. What a great Direct!
I think it's funny how in the PS5 showcase they announced a remake for this game and now 2 weeks later they announce that the original is coming to Switch lol
@JayJ it IS the original. The remake is PS5 exclusive for a time period
Looks like I will be buying it if it runs well on Switch
@anoyonmus Oh good, so I was confusing it with that lol. Sounds like this is the way I'll be playing it for now on, especially if they got the native widescreen support that the Xbox version lacks.
Still have my original XBox version of this. For anyone who hasn't played this but has played the Mass Effect games this is in many way the groundwork for the first Mass Effect in many ways.
I will definitely get the LRG for this. I love pre-Disney Star Wars!
Everyone buy this! Then we might get KOTOR 2 and Jade Empire!
I never played it so it’s nice to have the opportunity available! I understand it’s a fan-fave Star Wars game.
holy crap this is awesome but wat concerns me is that ea might make the switch version with less stuff then the other console versions.
Awesome!!!! From the 2003 xbox game.Wow.
I nerded out when this was announced, love this game and can't wait to play it all over again, this combined with everything else probably made this my favorite Nintendo Direct that I can remember, no joke.
KOTOR?
The KOTOR?!
on Switch?
Where's the preorder button!
I just preordered but why is it 15.6 gigs!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!!?
There is hope in my heart for Jade Empire now. Now who am I gonna romance…Juhani, what’s up?
I never thought I see the day when KOTOR made it to a Nintendo system. Nice that Xbox is willing to give this game another chance outside the Xbox and PC platform. Enjoy it Nintendo fans.
Hmm, it’ll probably come to LRG and then get announced in a double pack for retail when the second one is announced.
Let's just sit here and hope Aspyr doesn't screw up another Star Wars port.
@RiasGremory EA has nothing to do with this re-release, and I'm not sure what you mean by this version having less content than the other versions. This is a remaster of the original, not the recently-announced remake. It's going to be the same version that was on Xbox, PC, and mobile, just now available on Switch.
Oh my gosh day one buy for me!!!!
I’ll take this over the woke (rumored to be anyway) remake any day… remaking classics never works well for most games.
@Krysus because it is getting remastered
@Captain_Toad it is on the eshop, my friend
I hope this means Kotor 2 is coming soon too. I've wanted this so much
Played it when they released the port on mobile. Forgot how ugly and tedius it was. Was a great game back in the day, but doesn't hold up well.
Current playing it on my Series S and have just become a Jedi, i might leave it and restart with the Switch version instead.
@Specter_of-the_OLED MS have no say over it as they don't own the rights to the game in any way.
Sorry, that day belongs to Shin Megami Tensei V.
Great and just when I finally cracked and bought it on Xbox. Then they go and release it on switch. Well anyway guess I'm finally gonna play this for the first time. I've heard it's amazing!
Meh not a star wars fan oh well
@nessisonett And top of it.. Xbox games made PS2 look like a retro console.
PS2, like PS1 had no hardware filtering at all. LOL
Even today i'm surprised Sony figured out that hardware filtering were possible on PS3.
@KiraMoonvalley Yeah. I'm 3 years old, and is why i own a PC with RTX 3070 / AMD Ryzen 9 5900X (12 Core), and a PC with GTX 1660 Super, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One X and Switch among other things.
Why? Because i'm a 3 year old with my own salary. Look it up in Guinnes Mr. Budget Troll.
If you were older than 2 year old, you would know that graphics is NOT the same thing as framerate.
Almost forgot. Congrats for not being able to write a comment without swearing. LOL
Since swearing is so important to you, i guess you are 6 years old? Twice as old as me?
I will get this and play this on my OLED Switch. I have spoken.
You just know Limited Run will have their grubby mits on this in about a years time. With another 8 months to actually get the damn thing, with inflated shipping, of course. 🤮
Otherwise, this is fantastic to see KOTOR on Switch.
The classic, as in, NOT the remaster they're also doing? or yes?
Removed - offensive remarks
Is this some kind of response to the timed-exclusive and hardware-intensive KOTOR Remake on the PS5?
Cool for those who wanted it, but I already have the mobile version on my tablet, so I don't see the benefit of having it on Switch as well.
Still, if this means more Star Wars games in the future, then I can't complain (here's hoping Rogue Squadron or Shadows of the Empire show up next).
@KiraMoonvalley I'm never angry ever. You are the angry one here looking at your post which were even censored by the system.
@KiraMoonvalley I block budget trolls like you too which are too young to understand anything.
Great news! Amongst the best Star Wars video games this was.....
Well at least we have ways to get the original before Disney ruins it.
I was reluctantly buying a PS5 for the remake. now I don’t have to! They keep giving me reasons not to get a PS5.
This is one of my all time favourite ever games and I hope playing it again for the first time in 15 years doesn’t sully that
Why is the download size up to 15gb? While on pc & android it's 3gb🤔
Please someone share your thoughts about this i need to know more?
An elegant Star Wars game from a more civilized age.
Fond memories of this one and its sequel from the xbox ere. Will grab it for sure sometime.
Know, THAT'S a great surprise! I'll gladly accept the sequel too!
Looking forward to seeing what this is like on the Switch. I always wanted to play this but never had an Xbox. Eventually got it on a tablet, but that was no way to play it.
15gb!? The hell!?
One of my favourite games, period! If they also release KOTOR2 with lost missions and all the fixes, I will be the happiest boy.
I already pre-ordered it. I am so happy right now, I thought KOTOR wouldn't make it to Switch because it is an EA game.
Excellent, I'll definitely be getting this, even though I already have the iOS port (which supports controllers). I won't be bothering with the remake on PS5 because of certain people working on it.
@Liam Doolan can you share any thoughts on why the file size is 15gb? Is this a remastered edition of some sort?
Always wanted to give this game a try. Not a huge Star Wars fan per sé, but I like it well enough.
For anyone wondering why the file size is so big, the Force is in it, obviously.
I thought this was a double pack. Does this mean 2 is still Microsoft only?
I wait for a physical release but then it is Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!
@Sourcecode Woke? There's no rumours at all beyond some incels throwing a tantrum because of some stuff one of the designers for the game has said, there's nothing actually to make "woke" in the game anyway.
As for the remake well i think its needed, its a great game still but it does have its quirks what haven't aged well and the pacing of the first act isn't great. Also don't know what you mean about remaking classics doesn't work when one of the best remakes ever is Resident Evil 2 and of course REmake, in fact i can think off many great remakes of older games.
@Gwynbleidd Yeah the remake is the one hitting PS5, this is most likely a small remaster in the style of the previous SW games on Switch.
For $15, I'll get this. Partly because I never did play it when it was new.
I still know nothing about the plot of game, after all these years, just that you can be good or bad and it affects the ending, I think?
I am so glad I can play the original game ported to Switch because I really don't want to get another console at this time with the remaster coming - I just don't need that. Maybe when TES VI comes out I'll consider a gaming PC. But I don't need an XBSX or PS5. So it's really nice that we can get ports of original games at the same time as other people are getting remasters.
On the converse, I love that Zelda Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask are coming in their N64 forms to NSO, but can we still have HD versions of the 3DS remakes, by the same logic as these two separate KOTOR releases?
If this is the original and not the "woke" remake, then it's a must buy.
I'd also love to see Dragon Age: Origins on the Switch.
I played the original back then but but back then if game wasn't Max Payne it was too boring for me.
Now that I'm older and hopefully smarter and more beautiful I wanna give it another go.
I'm actually more interested in this one rather than the PS5 remake.
@Mountain_Man definitely the original and I’m right there with ya. I like my games without having politics shoved down my throat…even subliminally.
Big question will this also be getting a physical release like the other Aspyr released Star Wars games are getting?
@Mountain_Man There is no "wokeness" in the remake, its just something a bunch of incels have started because they don't like the comments one of the devs have said. Of course funny thing is "wokeness" is already in the game and always has been.
Just in time for the remake...oh wait!
Anyway, still nice to have. Although graphically it might be totally outdated. A couple of years ago this would have made me very excited. But now...
Also, very big file-size for such a old game.
@WallyWest One of the lead writers of the remake is a toxic feminist, so you can expect it to have "woke" nonsense up the wazoo.
I’ll take this over the woke remake any day… remaking classics never works well for most games. ^_^
Definitely getting it on Day 1
@Mountain_Man EXACTLY! But you’re gonna have those who put the blinders on and pretend like everything is “fine”.
@Mountain_Man Yeah i've seen her comments but i don't there's need to worry, why? Because its one person. The game already has some pretty strong female characters and there's barely anything "sexual" wise in the game to tone down so really what will she do? Come on what harm do you think this writer will do? Oh no we might have a gay character now or more strong female characters so f**king what, the lead can still be a male if you want and they can still be a beacon of hope or agent of evil.
Yay, now you don't have to play it on mobile devices, or PC, or backwards compatibility on Xbox & pay those measly little prices. Real gamers want to buy more expensive games that were available everywhere else for less....🙄
@Henmii it looks like they are upscaling the graphics in the Switch version
It must be good and big if that file size is to be believed. Meanwhile the PS5 is recieving a remake, and who knows how it will weight...
Better improve graphics before release first....
@anoyonmus
Well that's something...
@SwitchForce it looks like it is improved from the trailer but I am not 100% certain
