@607jf As I said, if my daughter didn't play on it occasionally, I would be happy to sell it and recoup some of my investment. Arms alone was one of the worst gaming purchases I've ever made. It should have been a $30 game on the eShop.
@WaveBoy When they announced the Wii U, I thought there were many opportunities to use the second screen. Many called it a gimmick, but I too felt it was underutilized. In the end, the Wii U seemed to succumb greatly to consumer confusion and bad marketing. The name itself was a disaster. Many people asked me years ago if the Wii U was an accessory to the Wii. Not everyone follows these circles closely, so the hesitation to purchase a new console made sense.
In the end, you're right: the Switch library will grow and surpass the Wii U's. If we're comparing hardware-to-hardware, I prefer the Wii U console. I prefer the controls incredibly. It was backward compatible with Wii, it had Netflix, a universal remote control, Netflix, MiiVerse (R.I.P.), Amazon Video, better user management (imho), a stylus that was both a game accessory and a creative tool, and overall a stronger and more durable hardware design.
I look forward to seeing the Switch grow. I barely pay any attention to Nintendo anymore. I invested deeply into Wii U, and I feel a little betrayed by the company. I just don't like the way they're doing business these days, and I'm not anxious to fork over hundreds of dollars every time their console fails and they scramble to roll out a new one. I know that's not a popular opinion here, but that's how I see it.
I don't care about sales in Japan. I love the Wii U; I love it a lot more than the Switch. I've had my Switch less than 6 months, hate the controls, one of them has already broke and I've had to have it serviced, the game library is growing but mostly uninteresting to me, and the Wii U has about a dozen more meaningful features to me. I would gladly sell my Switch if my daughter didn't use it regularly.
I tried hard to like BotW, but it wasn't for me. My wife managed to finish it, but she didn't like it either and struggled to find the patience to complete the game. I have no interest in revisiting it.
@KirbyTheVampire is correct: there are far better open world games on other platforms. Calling it Zelda doesn't make it a great Zelda game. It's the worst brand of Zelda that has ever existed because it shares so little in common with its predecessors. I would liken it to putting on the Link skin in Skyrim.
The story and side quests failed to engage; cooking was tedious and lacked a recipe book or better interface; mobs were redundant; weapons broke too easily which hurt the combat experience; mounts were more trouble than they were worth to manage; the world was big but a little too big to feel either familiar or interesting enough to walk around endlessly for long stretches; shrines were plentiful but repetitive; for the largest Zelda world ever created, there's a serious lack of dungeons. Virtually every part of this game frustrates and feels like micro management, not an adventurous, engaging fantasy romp.
After 50 hours or so, I gave up. It just wasn't fun. Sorry. Others will disagree and that's fine. We're all looking for different things in our gaming experiences, and Zelda: BotW failed to interest me. Worst of all, it never really felt like Zelda to me. It felt like I was playing a mediocre open world title with a Zelda skin.
I think the game is incredibly overhyped. It's one of the worst Zelda games, and I've played nearly all of them. Walking around in blades of grass and collecting items to cook just doesn't hold my interest. It's a lopsided title with too much emphasis on what's never made a Zelda game worth playing; it's basically a walking simulator with puzzle play pushed to the background, weapons that break after two fights, and a series of other agonizing 'features' (like swimming) that are needlessly punishing and outright boring after a few hours. I'll never understand why so many people like this game when there are far superior open-world games on the market today.
This is part of what I don't understand about Nintendo's methodology. They'll introduce something, only to retract it later. Why not build and improve on the MiiVerse infrastructure for Switch and future platforms? They have a strange relationship with their own technology. I realize this is Nintendo land, and someone is always going to defend their actions, but as a new Switch owner, the console is very lacking in apps and features that would easily enhance the experience. Again, look at the last generation on the Wii U: Netflix, Amazon Video, MiiVerse, etc. The Switch is two steps backward in some ways.
I'm really not sold on the Switch, yet. First of all, the Wii U felt abandoned and I invested heavily into its library of games. It's now become obsolete as no new titles are being developed for it. Nintendo wants my money again with a new console, but why should I keep spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on new hardware and games when they've clearly demonstrated they struggle to work with 3rd party developers, struggle with marketing their gaming consoles and (when things get tough) they bail on those consoles and make a new one?
I like the concept of the Switch, but it's Nintendo that has made me buyer beware of their way of doing business. I feel kind of betrayed, to be honest. Just my two cents.
Everybody you say? I love the Wii U. I use it every day. There are so many well-reviewed games on the console but LOL Nintendo, right? So many gamers don't even give it a chance and I feel sorry for them. I think they're missing out on some great titles.
Honestly, I've been laughed at by Gamestop employees for purchasing and asking about Wii U games. I'm sure you can guess how I feel about their CEO's opinion.
1. Twitter integration isn't working properly. I've tried to tweet about the app to my friends but it doesn't create a new tweet with a proper share link.
2. I should be able to give friends clothes I don't care about. Give players the ability to trade items and it will enrich the friend capabilities that are sorely lacking in the game.
3. Answering friends' questions does not immediately work. There seems to be an unnecessary lapse in time between answering questions and my friends seeing those answers. It's not even close to being instant. There doesn't appear to be any reason for this.
4. Coin currency is needlessly confusing. There are Miitomo points, platinum coins and gold stars. Why not create one type of currency or at the least, only two? Three currencies is confusing and strange to me.
I was just at this store over the Summer and it could definitely use a facelift. I think Nintendo is missing some opportunity here. There are some great t-shirts here and of course most any game you could want on existing consoles but the second floor has too many stuffed animals. I hope they can do more.
Thank you for posting this! YES! It's painfully small. Truthfully, I had the same problem with MH3. I would enjoy Xenoblade if the text were bigger and if I had an option to lower or disable the music. I like some of it but not all of the time.
@Yorumi I'm done. You are highly ignorant about feminism, objectification and sexualization of women. What you're advocating for here is that 'breast size choice' is above all, more important to female gamers when evidence (largely outside of Nintendo Life) all points to women who want LESS sexualization of their bodies in the media. That includes games. I'm absolutely finished speaking with you. Go argue within feminist circles about your superior logic and see how important women believe 'breast size' on their game avatar is. Oh wait, just talk to Bazzlin.
@Yorumi Your comment is all straw man here. I never said 'all women should look the same'. I mean, if a girl has green hair and the avatar choice does not include green hair, according to your logic, the game makers aren't being sensitive to women. Of course that's ridiculous. An avatar cannot possibly provide all conceivable options for a female to look precisely like the player.
One thing that seems clear to me is that as a '32 year old male', you clearly know very little about feminism, objectification or sexualization of women which is entirely absent from all of your responses. You never provided any evidence that female gamers care in any capacity about the inclusion of a breast size slider in video games. We both know it doesn't exist though.
You've also accused me of name-calling to which I asked you to explain when and where I did it. Of course, we both know that didn't happen and you've failed to provide any evidence of it. Suggesting that you might be 'trolling' should not — and cannot — be conflated with name-calling. That's ridiculous and you know it.
I'm mostly disinterested in your arguments because — as I've already stated — your position is that 'breast choice' is greater than objectification and sexualization of female figures. In feminism, this is seen as a common ailment in the media and if you did your research, you would understand that.
@Yorumi What name have I called you? I have only suggested that perhaps you are trolling. I'll just conclude that there's a misunderstanding about the slider. As indicated by Bazzlin's comments — a FEMALE btw — it's clear there is no consensus on the inclusion of a 'breast size slider' as you're espousing here.
@Yorumi You are sorely out of touch with modern reality and feminism. What you're saying here is that breast choice is greater than media objectification and sexualization of women. Do you know how many women would find that offensive?
@Yorumi I NEVER said I wanted the slider. Never happened. Not me. That would indicate the opposite of what I'm trying to say here and it would negate your counter argument. You've confused me with someone else or you're trolling. You're also mincing my words here, quite badly. What I am suggesting is that by including the feature, it only serves to continue objectifying and sexualizing the female figure. This is echoed in most corners of the feminist movement but you would need to educate yourself on that matter. It's not my responsibility to do that for you. Do your research.
@Yorumi When did I suggest that women are born with different size breasts? Even if I did, how is it an untrue statement? I would never suggest under any circumstances that women should not be seen in public. I literally have no idea what you're saying or how to respond. Trolling?
With respect to the comment section, I have no idea who is truly male or female but my wife echoes my sentiments as do many other women I've met. While I can't speak for every female gamer on the planet, I feel quite certain there has never been a real demand for larger breasts among the female demographic. If I'm wrong, please provide some kind of irrefutable evidence of a movement or protest in favor of it. I suspect there aren't any though.
@Jaz007 What women out there are complaining in any capacity about the fact their female avatar does not have adequate breast size? I mean, we already live in an incredibly objectified society where women are spread across all forms of media as sexual creatures. The reverse is hardly true which is why I mentioned the pants bulge. I'm a man and I can clearly see there is no desire for that feature because men do not care. Where are the droves of female gamers who are demanding larger breast size or more objectification and sexualization in media and games of their bodies? We need less of it, not more.
@Jaz007 You're joking, right? It's not "obvious" to me at all. Create a proportionate breast size and move on. Isn't breast size just as arguably 'crude' and 'gross'? It seems entirely subjective to me. Your entire counter argument here is 'penis = gross' while 'breast = not gross'. Give me a break.
Color me crazy here but maybe we don't continue to use games to sexualize and objectify women? Does breast size really matter to gamers? Last time I checked we aren't allowing gamers to adjust 'pants bulge size' for male characters.
Lots of Apple hate here. I for one will be getting the new Apple TV. I love the Siri integration. When I think back on the hundreds of hours I've poured into New Leaf, I'm reminded of the changing seasons, the holidays, my neighbors moving in and out and the island. I keep reading about the design themes in ACHHD but are these other New Leaf elements still in the game? It seems like a watered down Animal Crossing with a heavy focus on design. Will it even have the same charm and annual activities and changing seasons we've grown to love about this game? I'm just curious as I haven't quite made my mind up about this one.
@TICGS I thought about that but I changed my e-mail address several months ago. Unless they had complied a very old list, I'm unsure how that might have happened. I'm still waiting to hear back from Nintendo.
Unfortunately, Nintendo did not send me my codes. I met all of the qualifications and even called them this morning. The support rep said he didn't understand why I didn't get it as he agreed, I met the qualifications being a Platinum member last year and having been opted-in for promotional e-mails. Luckily, my friend got an e-mail and I got the code anyway. Still, I would have liked to receive the extra codes to share them with others on here. Perhaps in a couple of days, if I hear back from Nintendo, I'll do just that.
@cyrus_zuo Me and you both. Try emailing them at Nintendo.com's Support page. That's what I did. I'm sure their support is overwhelmed though. I'm not really expecting anything today.
@nf_2 I tried e-mailing Nintendo through their Support page. I guess now it's wait and see. I was definitely Platinum last year and I've been signed up for their e-mails the entire time, so, not sure why certain people aren't getting them.
@El_Scorpio Took the words right out of my mouth. I don't have the money to upgrade to new hardware but I'd love to own Xenoblade. My family has bought 3 of these handhelds. It definitely feels like current owners are getting the shaft on this one. Why should I give Nintendo more money at this point? I would be reluctant to buy any new hardware unless it's closer to the end of it's cycle now since a new one can come along mid-generation with some exclusives I can't afford to buy. Give me a break, Nintendo. This is definitely a huge disappointment for me.
It's all a little... underwhelming, I think. I guess I'll need to see more to be convinced of the upgrade. I have a 3DS XL and I don't see much reason to get one of these. It seems like a more polished version of what I already have without any 'must-have' features.
Also, I like the stylus where it is now. The new placement feels less natural.

They say if you meet the qualifications, you should get the code. It doesn't say anywhere that only 'some' Platinum members will get the codes.
Re: Demo for Super Smash Bros. 3DS Announced for North America and Europe
@nf_2 I tried e-mailing Nintendo through their Support page. I guess now it's wait and see. I was definitely Platinum last year and I've been signed up for their e-mails the entire time, so, not sure why certain people aren't getting them.
Re: Demo for Super Smash Bros. 3DS Announced for North America and Europe
Is there anyone else out there, like me, who has NOT received their codes and yet they meet all the qualifications?
Re: Demo for Super Smash Bros. 3DS Announced for North America and Europe
Have they already sent the codes out? I was a Platinum member in North America and have been subscribed to their e-mails the entire time.
Re: Poll: Tell Us What You Think of the New Nintendo 3DS
@El_Scorpio Took the words right out of my mouth. I don't have the money to upgrade to new hardware but I'd love to own Xenoblade. My family has bought 3 of these handhelds. It definitely feels like current owners are getting the shaft on this one. Why should I give Nintendo more money at this point? I would be reluctant to buy any new hardware unless it's closer to the end of it's cycle now since a new one can come along mid-generation with some exclusives I can't afford to buy. Give me a break, Nintendo. This is definitely a huge disappointment for me.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Brings Life to the 3DS With New Models
It's all a little... underwhelming, I think. I guess I'll need to see more to be convinced of the upgrade. I have a 3DS XL and I don't see much reason to get one of these. It seems like a more polished version of what I already have without any 'must-have' features.
Also, I like the stylus where it is now. The new placement feels less natural.
Re: Mario Kart 8 Update & DLC Scheduled for 27th August
Battle arenas. Please.
Re: The Club Nintendo Reward Details Are In For August
Why can't we choose if we want these VC games on our Wii U or 3DS? I want SMB2 but not on my Wii U. C'mon Nintendo!
Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Discusses Future Cross-Platform Development as an "Opportunity" for Nintendo
Please share purchases across consoles. I want Earthbound on my 3DS. Please!

Listening to that song first thing this morning was like being 7 again and turning on Saturday morning cartoons.
Re: Mario Kart 8 Limited Edition Software Bundle Coming To North America
Seeing as I live in California, this is out of the question for me.
