@Harmonie I don't know about that. As far as I know the only clues to Redd and Brewster's return right now is lines of dialogue spoken by certain villagers. It's not much, but it's reason to be optimistic.
@Harmonie Whether you understand the appeal or no, more content is never a bad thing. Considering we paid $60 for this as opposed to $30 or $40 (It's been a long time, I don't remember which.) for New Leaf, which had more content out of the box and eventually got a sizable free update, I'm certainly hoping Nintendo at least adds back in most of the stuff found in previous games and a few new things besides before they even think of trying to sell us any paid DLC. We know it's coming and I'm okay with that if it's good, just don't try to sell us stuff that should've already been there, Nintendo.
@Benji80 Give me a break, dude. Other than the animal killing, which has been addressed, is bad, even the director agrees, it's just a movie. You don't have to like it, you're free to consider it sick and reprehensible, but why should it be illegal?
This is certainly unexpected and not the sort of thing you'd have ever expected to see on a Nintendo console up until a few years ago. Whether it'll actually be a decent game of course remains to be seen, but I'm a big fan of horror in any form and am always up for any new horror games coming to Switch.
I think it's been obvious from the beginning that Nintendo was always planning to bring back at least some of the things currently missing in this installment. I actually rather like this approach. Instead of unlocking everything in the first couple weeks, we're going to gradually given reasons to keep coming back. This will of course be less relevant to those who buy the game further down the line, but I still think its neat.
I'm still skeptical of the eventual paid DLC though. I mean, I don't think Nintendo will try to sell us stuff that should have been in the game from the beginning, but until they start confirming some of this upcoming content it's gonna be a nagging worry in the back of my mind.
April Fool's Day would have been a perfect time to reintroduce Redd if it hadn't been co-opted by Bunny Day. That said, signs are definitely pointing to his return, it's just a question of how long Nintendo is planning to make us wait.
@patbacknitro18 Yeah, right. It's not like there's ever not been huge interest in a third Half-Life game in the... checks notes ... SIXTEEN YEARS since Half Life 2 came out. Maybe after all this time Valve felt they needed to release some sort of buffer project to gain actual interest in continuing the series before committing to a full sequel, but it's just as likely Half-Life 3 will never happen. I hope I'm wrong, but I'll believe it when I see it and not a moment before.
I'll acknowledge the troll in these comments one last time, just long enough to point out that as a "leftist" I'm perfectly fine with playing any game that expresses conservative viewpoints as long as it can manage not to be racist or sexist about it. Sadly, being offensive in the most boring, predictable ways possible is the only "conservative" value that seems to matter to alt-right pieces of trash like our little visitor.
Nintedo has a lot of neglected properties. This, F-Zero, Kid Icarus, Star Fox, Star Tropics, among others. If Nintendo isn't gonna do anything with them they should let indie studios make a pitch to revive them. As obscure as some of Nintendo's older properties are, I guarantee that even something like Ice Climbers would get people excited if Nintendo would just take a chance on it.
Personally I never had a problem with this event. The eggs are a bit much though, so it's just as well the drop rate has been adjusted. I'm happy to see Nintendo are listening to fans and getting patches out so quickly for this game. If only fan feedback was acted on this quickly for every game. The fact that a lot of Nintendo employees are stuck at home right now and some of their other work may be suspended at the moment may have something to do with it.
@Kimyonaakuma The rumor is that a back-to-basics Paper Mario is on the way, but right now there's now way of knowing how reliable that is. Ah well, I'm feeling hopeful for now, but not TOO hopeful.
Between now and the 12th there are eggs hidden all over the island and also DIY recipes for egg based items. If you're able to get the entire Bunny Day set built by the actual Bunny Day you apparently get a special prize.
@Heavyarms55 Oh okay, I get ya. I agree, if they released one remaster a month leading up to a new Mario game of in November I think people would get tired of Mario long before the new game came out, not to mention the backlash if they tried to release the remasters for like $40 or even $60 dollars each. I'd gladly buy a compilation of Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy remasters for $60.
I want all of this, but I agree that the best way to handle it would probably be a collection of Mario remasters in June, a new Mario game of some sort in November (most likely the rumored new Paper Mario game) and maybe something else in between. We haven't had a Dr. Mario game on Switch yet. A new Mario Golf or other Mario sports title might be likely as well.
It definitely feels like, "Hidden Gems" here means putting a spotlight on some their lower selling games to try to shift some copies. The only thing that interests me here is Yomawari: The Long Night Collection. It's been sitting on my wish list for a while and at half off I figured I'd go for it, though since it's a survival horror title I might well end up sitting on it until October since I always enjoy having a few nice spooky games to play during spooky season.
@Heavyarms55 I mean, releasing it as a collection wouldn't change the fact that it's still multiple games. I still support the collection idea as a collection would likely be better priced than if they released them all individually.
Definitely hope this is true as it would be awesome. I've never gotten to play Super Mario 64 or either of the Super Mario Galaxy games, so I'd be down for seeing them on Switch. Of course it remains to be seen just how "remastered" they would be and what Nintendo would charge for them.
@darkswabber Beating the PS2 is a tall order, but I think the Switch can at least manage to surpass the Wii. Being a hybrid helps. Instead of a dedicated handheld drawing off sales, it's got a handheld-only variant in the Switch Lite. Not everyone double dipped on Nintendo consoles and handhelds in the past, but with the Switch you can get both in one, or just the handheld if that's your thing and that'll really help sales in the long run, especially when we get to the point that the price starts dropping.
As with everything from PETA, this is eye rollingly stupid. I will address only this:
"'Is Tom Nook Exploiting you?'"
Ah look, this meme again. For decades now, Tom Nook has been giving us interest-free home loans and letting us pay them off at our own pace. If that's exploitation, I think we could all use some.
@aznable Fair enough. You're an equal opportunity jerk, I can respect that.
Anyway, it's not hard to figure out why Nintendo would prioritize a new Animal Crossing over Metroid or F-Zero. You will get your new Metroid game eventually. F-Zero's probably not very, but I do hope you get the games you want to see even if they hold no interest for me personally.
Anyway, the resource thing, as mentioned, isn't really a problem, but the fact that only one player gets to progress the game will be a big problem for some. I get the encouraging sharing thing, but since multiple players on one Switch don't actually get to share everything, it turns what is already an arbitrary restriction into an unfair one.
@aznable Dude, I'm sure there are plenty of things you like that others would consider stupid, that's life. Not sure why you feel the need to go out of your way to insult others over a game you don't like, but I suspect you are a miserable person and I feel very sorry for you.
@aznable It's cool you don't like AC, not every game is for every gamer, but since it's now officially the second biggest launch in Switch history before even factoring in digital sales, I'd say putting resources into this has worked out pretty well for them.
@Brumblescope After some consideration I named my island Duckston. I'm from Boston and my nickname is Duckie, which is also what I named my character in the game.
I had it preordered on Amazon, but then cancelled it and bought it digital because this is the kind of game I'll be playing a lot and since I play almost exclusively docked I don't wanna be messing with cartridges if I don't have to. Seems like I might have made the right choice. Sucks for people who prefer to go physical and might not get their hands on the game for a while. I'm already going crazy with the game downloaded to my system, waiting for it to unlock. If I had to wait another five days or me I'd probably go burn something down. And they say video games don't lead to violence!
It's a nice looking kit, if I didn't already own a Switch I'd strongly consider picking it up. Kind of ridiculous that the US version of the bundle doesn't come with the game, though. Poor show, NoA.
@kalosn Yeah, although I never got to play either of the console versions as New Leaf was my first Animal Crossing experience, I always imagined it would feel quite different to be playing the game on a big tv rather than a handheld, especially since I've always been more of a console than a handheld guy. In that way the Switch almost feels like it was custom made for Animal Crossing. You get both experiences in one system. Although I'll likely be doing most of my New Horizons playing on the big tv at home, I imagine I'll also take frequent advantage of the handheld mode simply because it's kind of game that encourages daily play and you don't always have the time or the ability to dedicate to playing at home.
This is a really weird move for Reggie. Why retire from Nintendo, a company almost universally loved by gamers, only to join a company almost universally hated?
Anyway...
"The gaming industry needs a healthy and vibrant GameStop"
Nonsense. Gamestop is the reason that the vast majority of people who want to shop at a brick and mortar videogame store have only Gamestop to choose from. Gamestop needs to die and maybe something good will rise up in its place. Or maybe not, maybe the time for brick and mortar videogame stores has passed. Either way, no one should mourn Gamestop's inevitable passing.
@Euler Huh? Sold badly? I mean, sure it didn't move Breath of the Wild or Super Mario Odyssey numbers, but five million in sales ain't bad, especially for a niche game centered entirely around building and playing user-created levels.
I like the 2600 cover the best, but of the three we're officially voting on I gotta go with Europe. I also like that this week we actually get three very different cover images to vote on, more often than not we're just voting on different variations of the same cover image.
@Bobb Very much agreed. Robotnik is a much better name than Eggman. I understand that Eggman is his original Japanese name and I guess they reverted it to keep the name consistent worldwide, but he'll always be Robotnik to me.
@idrawrobots Marketing efforts to "age things up" almost always result in the exact opposite. Simple and timeless will always be preferable to some edgy flavor of the month.
Miiverse gave the Wii U some unique personality and sense of community that the Switch sorely lacks. Maybe Nintendo feels like it doesn't need that since the Wii U was a flop and the Switch has succeeded so well without it, but there are still plenty of us out there that miss it and would like to see it return.
I remember quite enjoying Deep Space Nine: Crossroads of Time, though I played the Sega Genesis version. Was it actually any good, though? This was 25 years ago and as a huge Star Trek fan at the time I'm sure my standards weren't high. Anything that was at least playable was sure to be met with enthusiastic approval.
@Emob It's not just Nintendo. Capcom released the Resi 2 remake last year for $60 and this year we're getting Resi 3, also for $60. Whether or not you think these remakes are worth $60 is a matter of personal opinion, but these games are full remakes that require a lot more work than a port or remaster and I think in the future we're going to see a lot more remakes dropping at full price and not just from Nintendo or Capcom.
It's an interesting question, but I think things worked out for the best. There's no indication a CD expansion for the SNES would have worked out any better than the SegaCD did and that failure would have cost us the entire PlayStation brand and all the games that wouldn't exist without it.
@SmaggTheSmug Trump is still in his first (and hopefully only) term. He hasn't had a chance yet to try to extend his time in the White House. I don't think it'll happen anyway, but I can understand the worrying that he might try. Anyway, when I said there's a Trump parody in RotJ I was referring to Jabba the Hutt.
Anyway, the First Order makes perfect sense to me as a dangerous but not actually terribly imposing echo of what's come before and I find Kylo Ren as nostalgia-driven, rage-fueled brat to be a fairly compelling and terrifically contemporary villain, its just that the movies never put any of these ideas to very good use and the chances that the last movie will redeem that any are pretty much nil. The fact they're apparently bringing back the Emperor in some form reeks of desperation. They created perfectly good villains in Kylo Ren and the First Order but never figured out what to do with them, so they're just throwing their hand up like, "Let's bring Palpatine back, why the **** not?"
@SmaggTheSmug We already got our heavy handed Trump parody in RotJ, it just took us thirty years to see it.
Seriously though, as far as I can tell the cries that the new Star Wars movies are "too political" seems to come down to some people not liking the efforts to diversify the cast. This is ridiculous of course. If the new Star Wars movies are mediocre, and they are (though I also concede that I'm no longer the target audience, a lot of kids seem to like the new movies and there's nothing wrong with that at all) it has nothing to do with the cast, who I at least think are all pretty great. I suspect some fans have picked up on the none to subtle parallels between Kylo Renn and toxic fandom and aren't too happy to see themselves portrayed as the bad guys they are. Mind you, that's all a minority. I think most critics of the new Star Wars movies, like me and apparently you, just don't think they're very good, but aren't really all that fussed about it. I mean, at least they're not as bad as the prequels.
@SmaggTheSmug Yup, the Witcher books and games comment on racism in the ways the different species interact and even the way Witchers themselves are regarded.
This seems to be a common theme with fans who scream about how political things have gotten, they seem to have completely missed all the political and social justice themes in the past stuff they profess to love, no matter how unsubtle those themes are. When people claim that stuff like Watchmen or The Witcher or Star Trek or Star Wars was never political before now, I can only shake my head and chuckle ruefully.
When I was playing the game, the soundtrack in my head was the closing bit of Killing in the Name played on loop. **** tha Police may have featured as well.
@JHDK I deleted the "flip out" bit because I'm trying to see your perspective and not start a fight, but I guess you saw it before I did. Fair enough.
Anyway, for various reason we're always gonna get release dates long before we reasonably should and in many cases they'll prove to be incorrect. I'm with you on wishing developers wouldn't give release dates until they could be sure of them though, or would at least try to keep them realistic.
In the case of Kickstarter, as I said, I'm pretty sure you have to give a date when the project is expected to be delivered by, but I also see that the Chicken Wiggle team gave themselves less than a year to deliver the game after funding and anyone could see there was a high chance of that not working out. I think some developers fear that if they admit a game will likely take a long time to release people won't back it and, to be fair, to some extent they're probably right. More often though I think developers really do just underestimate how long a job is going to take, especially if they're used to working with a bigger team or more resources and then move into crowdfunded indie development.

Re: The SNES PlayStation Was Going To Have A Super FX Chip Built-In
It's an interesting question, but I think things worked out for the best. There's no indication a CD expansion for the SNES would have worked out any better than the SegaCD did and that failure would have cost us the entire PlayStation brand and all the games that wouldn't exist without it.
Re: The Witcher Showrunner Doesn't See "Rabid" Fans As The Enemy
Re: The Witcher Showrunner Doesn't See "Rabid" Fans As The Enemy
Re: The Witcher Showrunner Doesn't See "Rabid" Fans As The Enemy
@SmaggTheSmug Yup, the Witcher books and games comment on racism in the ways the different species interact and even the way Witchers themselves are regarded.
This seems to be a common theme with fans who scream about how political things have gotten, they seem to have completely missed all the political and social justice themes in the past stuff they profess to love, no matter how unsubtle those themes are. When people claim that stuff like Watchmen or The Witcher or Star Trek or Star Wars was never political before now, I can only shake my head and chuckle ruefully.
Re: Ubisoft Working On Multiple Animated Shows Inspired By Its Existing Video Game IP
@PBandSmelly A cartoon based on a kids game will be aimed at kids? How very dare they!
Re: Random: Someone's Made A Fake Untitled Goose Game Spotify Soundtrack Of Rebellious Gangster Hits
When I was playing the game, the soundtrack in my head was the closing bit of Killing in the Name played on loop. **** tha Police may have featured as well.

Re: Chicken Wiggle Workshop Unlikely To Be Released On Switch This Year
@JHDK I deleted the "flip out" bit because I'm trying to see your perspective and not start a fight, but I guess you saw it before I did.
