@NintendoFan4Lyf Less a protest than a straight up gag, I'm guessing. I mean, the game already has an opening movie, it's not like you press start and get a "opening movie to be inserted here" message, though that would be pretty funny. Nah, I think this is gonna be something silly poking fun at the idea of day one patches, but I guess we'll find out on day seven.
@onex The "day seven patch" thing definitely strikes me as a joke. We have no idea what this new opening movie is going to entail, but it's not like the game doesn't already have an opening movie. Some people just seem so determined to find something to rip about this game they're complaining about something that's clearly meant to be a joke. Did Suda kick their dog and slap their mom or something. I don't get it. Too much time on their hands, I guess.
Long story short, if some people want to keep their Switch a gaming-only device that's their prerogative, but the arguments against bringing streaming services to the console just don't hold water.
@Neram Considering how often I encounter people on the bus watching tv on their phones with the volume at full blast, I'm not sure discretion is a concern for many. I'm not sure why the size would be an issue anyway, the Switch has a bigger screen than any phone and if you're listening on headphones, that's plenty discreet. Portability and battery life are issues to consider to be sure, but size and "discretion"? I don't see it.
@Kriven That's an interstitial step and already possible, given it's basically what Microsoft wanted to do with the Xbone before they got shamed into reversing direction. A true streaming console (or more likely, games streamed to existing hardware like smart TVs and set top boxes) will happen eventually, it's inevitable, but the technology isn't there yet and won't be for a while.
@Nater It's not as simple as you think. Given all the devices the Switch is in competition with, it's not as simple as "Use Switch for games or use Switch for not-games." Those are far from being the only options available to people. There are no downsides to having more streaming services on the Switch, especially since it and its software are already selling like gangbusters and Netflix is unlikely to cut into that to any significant degree.
The logic for keeping most of the major streaming services off Switch really only works if the Switch is somehow the only device one owns that's capable of streaming video. The reality is that most Switch owners also own a PC, smartphone or tablet, many own smart TVs or set top boxes and a good number own one or both competing consoles. Nintendo is competing with ALL of these devices for users' time and attention. This being the case, having Netflix and Amazon and etc. on the Switch can only benefit the system. Someone streaming entertainment content through their Switch may also buy and play games as long as they're using the system anyway, but you can't sell games to someone that's watching Netflix elsewhere because Switch doesn't have it and if someone wants to watch Netflix they can and will watch it elsewhere rather than play games instead.
@diwdiws Games like this tend to appeal to me and I'm about as unhipster as it gets. Hell, the details of my personal life suggest I should be a Gamergating, indie game hating incel shouting racial slurs at people on CoD all day, yet here we are. Tastes differ. If yours don't align with this game fair enough, but don't assume you know anything about those who do. shrug
I'm always amused at the people who seem confused when one site gives a score that's higher or lower than the average. Y'all do understand that these are individual opinions, yeah?
Great game. DLC would be nice as I'd love to spend more time with these characters, but I can appreciate the creator wanting to move on to new things and Drawdog sounds potentially just as charming as Wandersong was.
As to the developer not being sure if it'll come to Switch, I appreciate him not wanting to commit to anything at this early stage, but considering Wandersong sold so much better on Switch than on Steam it seems like a safe bet.
@Scottwood101 It might make sense for Nintendo to snap up a few of these indie studios before someone else does, but let's be real, if Nintendo didn't snag Rare when their games were doing so well for them in the N64 days, they're not going to start doing the sensible thing now.
I'd be interested in giving Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy another shot. I originally played it on the PS2 fifteen years ago and though I don't remember much about it, I do remember it being pretty good. I also remember I only paid like twenty bucks for it, I'm sure as hell not paying thirty for it now!
I have nothing to say on the subject at hand as it relates to cultural issues that don't involve me, but I will say that articles like this do serve one purpose: Anyone using the term "SJW's" unironically in the comments can be safely added to my ignore list and nothing of value will have been lost.
@Agramonte 50K in the first month is GREAT sales for an indie game and 8:1 Switch over all other platforms combined is impressive even if the game did sell "only" 50K total. Not sure why you need to be negative about it, but there's always one, it's inescapable.
It's always nice to see these stories about indie games doing so well on Switch. It's good to see indie games doing well period, but with so many indie games selling better on Switch than anywhere else, all the other indie devs out there must be taking notice. There's a ton of great indie games on PC I'd love to see come to any console, but especially Switch, which has quickly become my go to platform for indie gaming.
Some people seem to think this was all to his benefit as at least he got some publicity out of it. Nonsense. If the age of social media has taught us anything, it's that, "There's no such thing as bad publicity," is a lie.
But maybe I'm wrong and a washed up rapper will somehow turn almost getting sued by Nintendo into a major comeback. I admit I don't know enough about street cred to calculate how much trying to sell knockoff chinese consoles for the same price as the real thing gets you.
@Quarth Exactly. It always takes a while with any new system for development to ramp up. Despite this, the Switch had a pretty stellar first year, but it was inevitable that year 2 would be a bit slower. We did get Smash Ultimate, but most of the other new Nintendo first party titles, while excellent, were smaller, less hype-worthy titles. 2019 is looking fantastic though with several huge titles confirmed for release next year and a couple other tentative, plus no doubt two or three games we haven't even heard of yet, knowing how close Nintendo likes to play it to the vest sometimes.
The mystery vent is just further proof that this a repurposed PS4 controller, as on the Dualshock 4 that there is a port for plugging in certain accessories, such as a mini keyboard for messaging and the cheap multiplayer headset that comes with the system.
@electrolite77 A bit rude maybe, but it's definitely a silly argument. We're getting exactly as many games as we'd get otherwise; the ports are just nice extras that give those who missed those fantastic games a second chance at them. Of course, it wouldn't be the gaming community if some people didn't find things to gripe about while making up conspiracy theories.
If I can get one cheaper that's the one I'll go for, digital or physical makes no difference. Usually. The Switch's pathetic storage situation makes buying physical pretty much a necessity for larger titles.
@Gen0neD Thanks to the rise in people using home security cameras there are videos of package thieves like this guy all over the internet and like 90% of the time the thieves are white, but you know how it is. There's nothing to interpret from any of this but that people can be jerks regardless of the color of their skin, but sadly there'll always be people ready to see otherwise.
@Moroboshi876 |I understand what you're saying, but I also think you may be overestimating how much disk space a handful of 30 year old arcade games are going to take up.
That aside, I get the annoyance, but like it or not it's been clear for a while that anyone who thought they were going to be able to get away without buying an SD card for this system was wrong.
@saintayu Exactly. There are enough NES games that they could triple the number of games released every month and it would take over six years to release the full North American NES library. Not that I expect we're gonna get every NES game ever released or anywhere close to it, but at three games a month there's more than enough NES games to keep feeding the service throughout the Switch's entire lifetime. SNES games are a strong possibility, but if it happens it won't be because there's any shortage of NES titles to add.
@retro_player_22 Despite their age, there's still licensing involved with some of these games, not to mention that those with multiplayer need to be optimized for the online functionality. It's not as simple as just adding them.
Besides, at this point it's mere speculation that we're even going to get SNES and N64 games. I mean, SNES games seem like a safe bet but with no announcement from Nintendo we can't be sure. N64 games aren't guaranteed at all and honestly have aged a lot worse than many NES and SNES titles due to the primitive early 3D graphics.
@Dalarrun Yeah, that and Adventures of Lolo are the two I'm most interested in of the ones being added before the end of the year. I played Lolo back in the day and remember really enjoying it, though it was so long ago I don't remember a damn thing other than that it's a top-down puzzle game of some sort.
@Bunkerneath It's ten bucks on Steam, which means it's gonna be at least that much on Switch. Definitely not worth it for 2 hours of gameplay, but in my experience these kinds of games usually go on sale very quickly, most likely because nobody is buying them at full price.
I'd definitely be down for a sequel. As others have pointed out it just needs more meaningful character interaction and some intertwining between the character stories, however minor. Also an endgame that isn't completely optional. I don't mind punishingly difficult postgame content for those who enjoy that sort of thing, but tying it into major story revelations, thus ensuring that many gamers will have to look this stuff up rather than get to experience it themselves, is just cruel.
I have essentially the same opinion on review scores as I do on achievements/trophies:
On some level I can see the value of them, but I wouldn't miss them if they were gone and honestly think we'd probably be better off without them. That said, I respect the fact that enough people like them and want them around that they aren't going away any time soon.
Anyway, the problem isn't review scores but sites like Metacritic and the laziness of both fans and people in the industry who think a number tells them everything they need to know about a game.
Here's hoping that this is just the beginning of Sega revisiting long neglected franchises. I would very much like a new 2D Shining Force game, please and thank you.
There are definitely games that cost a bit more on Switch than on other platforms, though I don't think the problem is as bad as some might suggest. Then again, the Goosebumps game from three years ago (which takes around three to five hours to complete) just went up for preorder today for $30, twice what it originally cost three years ago. This is an unusual example, but still, damn. Do they actually think anyone will buy it at that price?
So, Goosebumps. They want thirty bucks for a port of a crappy three year old licensed point and click game that can be beaten in under three hours? Twice what it cost when released on other platforms? Are they ****ing serious?
Already got this on PS4. It's full of some neat ideas, but feels really unfinished. Still, I had more fun with it than I did Yooka Laylee, so there's that.
@brandonbwii Let me just say, for what it's worth I think you're a pretty cool guy. You don't care for this game, but you're okay with it existing and have no problem with the fact that some people enjoy it. I don't think that's actually such a rare thing, but if you frequent gaming sites it sure does seem like it sometimes.
@brandonbwii Were you expecting logic? That's the thing about conspiracy theories, they're not about logic or facts. Maybe there's something that passes as evidence in a certain light, maybe there isn't but ultimately such things are taken on faith because they line up with your pre-existing worldview, not because they actually make sense.
@brandonbwii Well, admittedly it hasn't gotten as much attention as Gone Home did five years ago, this despite also having gay people in it! I liked Gone Home well enough myself but not to the degree some did and you know, that's okay. As I said before opinions are personal things. Nothing in this hobby of mine mystifies me quite so much as people getting endlessly angry over the opinions of others. Like what you like, don't like what you don't like, it's cool. It's okay, it's a big world, there are games out there for everyone.
@jn2002dk Uh huh. I can't speak to why anyone would give Gone Home a GOTY nod, opinions are personal things. You caring that a game that apparently doesn't interest you in any way was highly rated by some game journalists is a bit odd. Oh yes, it was a conspiracy, therefore SJWs and pushing agendas and virtue signaling. yawn
@Agramonte They did make a new game. Old games are often re-released on newer platforms. Not sure why you're upset. You get angry about every re-release or is there something about this particular game?
@brandonbwii When someone is all, "SJW this" and "SJW that" I typically tune out because it signals that they nothing of significance to say. Some people just can't accept that not everything is for or about them.
People who seem to get pissed off by this game's very existence may want to ask themselves why. There are a lot of games in the world and plenty of room in it for games to exist that aren't for you. Sheesh.
