Re: Chicken Wiggle Workshop Unlikely To Be Released On Switch This Year

Donald_M

@JHDK It's a small team trying to make the best game they can. Good games take a long time to make, especially indie games and for good, easily understandable reasons. Nobody "went back on their word". I would assume you've been a gamer long enough to realize that any release date from anyone is, until the game is actually completed, nothing more than a wishful placeholder.

A solution here would be for developers just to not give a release date on games until they can actually be sure it's realistic, but we know that's never gonna happen. In the case of stuff funded on Kickstarter, I think giving a date when the project is expected to delivered is a requirement and it's easy to see how a developer can underestimate how long a project will take if it's just begun or hasn't begun yet.

Re: Chicken Wiggle Workshop Unlikely To Be Released On Switch This Year

Donald_M

@JHDK Waiting for an anticipated game to come out, especially in the face of one or more unexpected delays, can definitely be frustrating, but if we actually have any respect for the people that make these games then we have to respect that they're working as hard as they can to make these games a reality and that they hate delays just as much as we do. We also have to respect that it's not a good or healthy thing for these people to overwork themselves just so we can have a silly video game a bit sooner.

Re: Cuphead Is Getting Its Very Own Netflix Show

Donald_M

I mean, the sample image there doesn't look awful, but the whole point of Cuphead is how it evokes the look and feel of a particular era and style of animation, so changing up the look is an odd choice, though not necessarily one that means the show will be bad, though it does create an obstacle to attracting fans of the game which seems to defeat the purpose of licensing it in the first place.

Re: Rewind Feature And Two NES Games Are Coming To Nintendo Switch Online In July

Donald_M

@alexybubble Yeah, some publishers would rather re-release their own games than license them to Nintendo as part of the online service, which makes perfect sense. No hate. It's their games and if they feel there's more money to be made in porting and selling them directly, of course that's what they're gonna do. Of course, this reality is just more reason Nintendo should move on to other platforms already rather than continuing to drip feed NES titles. I mean sure there are still a lot of NES titles not on the service, especially at the rate Nintendo is releasing them, but how many of those that we can realistically expect Nintendo to be able to license are actually good?

Re: Bethesda Confirms Wolfenstein: Youngblood Will Include A Download Code Instead Of A Game Card

Donald_M

I certainly don't mind digital games as some folks here do, but I can't help but agree that releasing a game box with a download code in it is stupid and waiting for retailers to let the cat out of the bag before admitting it was even stupider.

I mean, I can see what's happening here, this "physical" release is to keep retailers happy by giving them something to throw up on store shelves. It's not Bethesda's fault that they have to throw retailers a bone, nor is it their fault if putting the game on a cartridge would up the price on Switch and they wanted to avoid that, but it's certainly their fault they weren't upfront about all this from the beginning.

Re: Guide: Where To Pre-Order Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Mini

Donald_M

The advertising motto for this thing should be, "Genesis does what Nintendid."

Seriously though, I have no plans to get this, but I'm glad that it's a thing that exists. Love Sega, love the Genesis, and Sega's return to console-making (after a fashion) is long overdue and has been long awaited. I just hope they don't find a way to biff it the way Sony did.

Re: Talking Point: There's Room For A Switch 'Family' If Nintendo Nails The Messaging

Donald_M

@pingua08 Agreed. Whether or not anyone likes mid-generation hardware revisions that are more than just cosmetic, they're here and likely here to stay. Making games exclusive to these revised versions is just stupid though. A "Pro" version of an existing console might sell enough to justify its own existence, but it'll never sell enough to support exclusive software and no third-party developer will ever release a game that only a fraction of the user base can even play.

Re: Battle And Build When Dragon Quest Builders 2 Launches On Switch This July

Donald_M

@Alucard83 I'm with you on games that require a lot of maintenance and busy work (which is what I assume you mean by "keep it up") which is why I've never really gotten into games like Harvest Moot and Stardew Valley, but I don't recall what I played of DQ Builders requiring much of that. I may be misinterpreting what you're saying though, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

As for all those ridiculous, awesome buildings other players put together, I'm in awe of the time, effort and creativity that goes into making them, but tend not to beat myself up too much over lacking the skill and patience to do anything of the kind myself. I'm happy enough just to see what other people can come up with.

Re: Battle And Build When Dragon Quest Builders 2 Launches On Switch This July

Donald_M

I really very much enjoyed what I played of the first Dragon Quest Builders when it released on PS4 back in 2016, but there was a major difficulty spike in the third chapter and I got annoyed and stopped playing and haven't gone back to it since, though I keep meaning to give it another shot.

Assuming part 2 can avoid anything like that I'll be all over it.

Re: Undertale Creator Brings Deltarune To Switch eShop On 28th February

Donald_M

@derty You'll have a better appreciation of this if you've played Undertale, but the game is free and doesn't require you to own Undertale to play. Undertale is a fantastic game though and currently on sale on the eShop, so if you haven't played it you should really consider it. It's not a particularly long game though it does encourage replays in various ways I won't spoil. Buy it now and you can complete a runthrough or several by the time Deltarune Chapter One is available.

Re: Talking Point: What Does The Nintendo Seal Of Quality Mean In 2019?

Donald_M

I don't think Nintendo needs to be as involved as it used to be, (not that limiting the number of games per year ever stopped crap games from releasing on the NES) but they could at least make an effort to vet eShop releases to stem the tide of garbage shovelware. It's getting harder and harder to parse out the quality titles with several dozen games releasing every week, most of them junk.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want From A Switch Mini?

Donald_M

If the Switch is really Nintendo's official answer for both the console and handheld markets then a potable-focused Switch Lite to attract consumers not interested in a full console would make sense, attract the 3DS only gamers into the next generation in a way that doesn't compete with its existing hardware.

Re: Nintendo Hosting New Indie Highlights Video Presentation Tomorrow

Donald_M

@GhostGarrity Yup, I tend to like the Nintendo first party titles a bit more than you do, but those are always gonna be few and far between. Indies provide a steady stream of releases and there are tons of great ones that haven't come to Switch yet, but some people seem to think that indies aren't "real" games. They'd be happier if nothing ever came to Switch but the handful of Nintendo releases every year, I guess? That's weird.

Re: Nintendo Hosting New Indie Highlights Video Presentation Tomorrow

Donald_M

@Krull Well, great indies games that aren't on Switch and that haven't, to my knowledge, been announced for Switch include The Red Strings Club, VA-11 Hall-A, Graveyard Keeper, Where the Water Tastes Like Wine and Return of the Obra Dinn. That's just off the top of my head. The PC scene is full of great, lesser known indie games, any of which would make a great addition to the Switch lineup.

Re: Level-5 Shares New Yo-Kai Watch 4 Trailer

Donald_M

@ricklongo I guess I can't blame you for being cautious, but the Yo-Kai Watch games have all been fairly well received and there's no reason to think Level 5 is gonna screw it up now. The thing with Ni No Kuni is, Studio Ghibli was heavily involved in the production of the first game, but not the second, which might be a factor in its being a disappointment to some. There's no such major change between Yo-Kai Watch 4 and previous games to suggest this one will have a drop in quality, but I guess we'll see.

Re: Talking Point: Amazon's Efforts To Tempt Gamers Show Why We Need Dedicated Games Consoles

Donald_M

@Flowerlark To be fair, this seems to be a standard problem with the Switch more so than an issue with internet speed. I rarely have any connectivity problems gaming on my PS4, but with the Switch it's a constant issue. Mind you, the PS4 is connected directly to my router while I use wifi with the Switch. Connecting it physically might help, but I'll need to buy an adapter for that.

Re: Level-5 Shares New Yo-Kai Watch 4 Trailer

Donald_M

I've never played a Yo-Kai Watch game, I ended up giving my 3DS to a close friend after he had to sell his, but I've always wanted to check them out and am really looking forward to this one. I'm trying not to get too hyped though, since we usually don't get these games until a few years after they hit Japan.

Re: First Run Of Legendary T-Shirts Are Being Added To Travis Strikes Again In February

Donald_M

As for the t-shirts, there might be licensing issues since these shirts are based on games from major publishers or it might be as simple as them wanting to release new shirts over time to keep gamers engaged and interested, especially with the second half of the season pass not dropping until April.

Honestly, it always amuses me when people complain about free content, but people will complain about anything I guess.
