Lose a bit on the system, make it back with the games. Drop that price like it's hot. Can't afford to lose that much money per system? You'll lose a whole lot more overall when no one buys it.
I do think that $300 is a good price when bundled with those games, but $250 is magic. Just seeing that 2 (and not when it's one cent away from not being a 2 anymore) will really get people moving. Even some of the most casually-interested gamers will pick it up with one or two games for $250.
@scamander They've said it, but they haven't said it in an obvious way that someone will pick up in passing (as in while watching one of these ads). I haven't looked into it too deeply, so until now I've only had a vague idea of how it worked.
In typical Nintendo fashion, they fail to just explicitly state what the Amiibo does. I think I only finally got the concept completely after yesterday's Direct.
How about: "Amiibo figures unlock CPU characters that fight along beside you and grow as they fight."
Really, is that so hard? Just showing someone putting the thing on the Gamepad and then showing a screen full of fighting dudes IS NOT HELPFUL.
I have a bunch of friends who were hesitant to move on to Black and White because they wanted to keep using Battle Revolution for their tourneys. I can understand what Masuda is saying, but there's something to be said about everything being displayed on the TV somehow. Even if we don't get another Stadium it would be great to have some way to do that. People do want it.
This is the sort of thing I would have bought when I was younger and dumber. But now I'm just smart enough to know that I would buy this and be too dumb to use it.
So does that mean that Wii games that supported the Classic Controller but NOT the Gamecube controller can now be played with a Gamecube controller acting as a Classic Controller? Sweet, I can finally play Geometry Wars the way I originally wanted! XD
I really can't fathom why it would take close to two years to give us folders when the 3DS already had them. It's like the simplest little feature possible.
I'd never even heard of this game until well after the 3DS one came out. I guess back then I had eyes for nothing but Mario. This sort of thing might as well have been invisible.
The more coverage I watched the more I entertained the idea of picking this up even though a year ago the mere idea of even touching a Dynasty Warriors game was less than desirable. Seeing the review scores has kind of broken me out of the daydream though. Maybe I'll pick it up in a few years when it's cheap and somehow I've finally worked through my staggering backlog.
And yet Nintendo is STILL hesitant to reveal this date even though it's only two months out and it's for the biggest game the Wii U has got for an entire year, presumably because they don't want to steal the thunder from the 3DS version, despite the fact that the Wii U is the system that needs it most. They've attempted to avoid one of their products cannibalizing the sales of another, when in fact they've set up a situation that's already doing that and in the worst way possible.
Hands down my favorite system, with the highest number of amazing games I've ever experienced. And it sold the worst, which caused Nintendo to change how they approached game design, and ultimately has been causing me to love the company less and less. So in my eyes, it's both the best and worst thing to ever happen to Nintendo.
These are still happening? Thank goodness, I though the whole thing just ended up being those awful videos that showed up on Nintendo Video. (Along with those equally disappointing Wind Waker videos.)
Right now what Nintendo needs more than anything is a game that basically requires the figures like Skylanders and Disney Infinity does. The draw is in buying a new toy and also getting the satisfaction of unlocking a new character to play with. Nothing Nintendo has offered is anything close to that. And I think their assumption that the figures will sell just because kids like toys might be the undoing of this whole thing.
But we'll see what they come up with. I just don't think the fact that they've failed to reveal anything at this point is a good sign. And unlocking minor additional features in games isn't going to cut it.
Buying this game even for 50 cents only encourages people to release unfinished games. Not everyone deserves support just because they're making games. Their games have actually got to be worth something.
On the one hand, I feel like this HAS to all be hinting toward the very real release of the game.
On the other hand, even if they had only just begun work on it back when Link Between Worlds came out, they would have been able to show it at E3; it's a darn remaster, which can't possibly take this long to make.
So I'm forced to come to the conclusion that they do plan on making it someday, but right now they're enjoying just screwing with us.
@SetupDisk Even just compared to regular shooters. You've got to move the stick soooo much for the game to register movement. It makes everything so inaccurate. I'm glad some people enjoyed it, but I really don't understand how, and I feel like Capcom killed the game's potential with those controls.
I'm way way into what this game is about. Just seems to unpolished for the price though. I'd love to pick it up someday if it gets a pretty hefty sale.
I didn't know there was a Hotel Dusk sequel. Great to know there are sequels for both Hotel Dusk AND Trace Memory, neither of which I can play despite them already being in my language.
Gotta loooove that region locking. Makes a ton of sense to put out games that just can't be played by a huge percentage of the world despite them already being translated. For all we know the dev wouldn't have gone bankrupt if Nintendo would just be reasonable.
@Thulfram I just can't justify buying it when the demo contains half the game. There's this huge map, and in the demo you only traverse a tiny bit of it, and the gameplay is so ridiculously simple that I first assumed there would be 50-100 levels at least. But then I found out there are only 20! If they tried again and included more levels I think they could have a fun little time waster on their hands. I think the game has potential.
Every so often I find myself returning to the Witch and Hero demo for another playthrough or two. I know everyone hated it, but I like it for some reason, and every time there's a discount I have to stop myself. I'd buy it if it had more levels.
And the great thing? These people have a serious impact on how Nintendo does business. These are the people that Nintendo is constantly trying to appease. That's good business, right there.
Hey mods, can you just start deleting the "must be a slow news day" comments? It's getting REALLY old, and they never fail to crop up on every single "for fun" article.
Anyway, Smooth is the best. He's sort of like Weird Al; he tackles songs that normally I wouldn't have listened to and makes versions I love to hear regularly.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)
@Dezsi Oh my gosh! I was only saying my mind was blown that it wasn't the way I've been saying it, but I only just now got the pun! XD
Re: Satoru Iwata Outlines Nintendo's First QOL Platform
This is very cool. My wife's got sleeping problems, so I'm eager to see if this might help.
Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)
"Diddy's Kong Quest"
and not
"Diddy Kong's Quest"?
Mind blown.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)
I still remember that Christmas morning, so long ago. Good times.
Re: Nintendo 64x64: Tetrisphere
I've always been surprised they haven't revisited this concept. It would work well on 3DS.

Re: Nintendo 64x64: Pokemon Snap
Every system Nintendo has made since the N64 has been more and more perfect for a new Pokemon Snap game...and yet we have nothing. I don't get it.

I would pick up Star Fox if they actually had it at a decent price. That game should default to like $20 max by now.

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND NINTENDO.

I WISH that was a deep, masculine voice. Sounded more like a regular guy trying to imitate a deep, masculine voice. Comes off as pretty lame to me.

I'll bet the guys at Nintendo will be pleased as punch to see this. ND's have shown that this is their exact brand of humor.

@SetupDisk The dead zone on the Wii U version rendered it unplayable to me. If it had gyro controls like on the 3DS I would have been all over it.
Re: Capcom Is Remastering The GameCube Resident Evil, But It's Not Coming To Wii U
They're obviously skipping Wii U because of low sales of RE:R, but low sales of RE:R were because of its TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE CONTROLS.
This industry is baffling and infuriating.
