Re: The Wonderful 101 Could Have Been Released on Wii

DerpSandwich

@wombatkidd I have more examples than those, but I don't find that this is worth my time. I have the right to my opinion, and I don't need to keep defending it to feel good about myself. I'd rather just walk away.

Also, my points being wrong is up for debate. I don't feel anyone has proven anything. Well, maybe except that people on Nintendo Life have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for criticism against Nintendo and will niggle away at you until they think they've "won".

Re: The Wonderful 101 Could Have Been Released on Wii

DerpSandwich

@JtotheY Seriously! The weirdest part is how they pretty much abandoned the Wii for the last two years of its life. Everyone assumed that it was because they were focusing whole-heartedly on Wii U. But then the Wii U comes and we get cheap Mario games, and games that were originally going to be on Wii or look like they should be on the 3DS instead. It's like, what have they been DOING for the last three years???

Re: The Wonderful 101 Could Have Been Released on Wii

DerpSandwich

@Ernest_The_Crab Pikmin 3 would not have been quite as good if they'd kept it on Wii. But if they'd been on top of things and hadn't put it off for years and years, by now we'd have Pikmin 4 on our Wii U. To be completely honest I'd rather have a really good game every few years than a slightly better game every NINE. (And all in all Pikmin 3 actually seems rushed to me, with only decent graphics and not a lot of content, but that's beside the point.)

Look, you can argue each and every game I mention, but you're not changing my opinion.

Re: The Wonderful 101 Could Have Been Released on Wii

DerpSandwich

@LDXD I completely agree that taking a lot of time on games is what makes a lot of Nintendo games amazing. I just think that they could go a little faster with better management and not sacrifice quality. Like I said, they just need to tighten things up a bit. Plenty of other developers are putting out fantastic, polished games in no time at all. But Nintendo is just a little too lax when it comes to release dates.

Re: The Wonderful 101 Could Have Been Released on Wii

DerpSandwich

I'm getting a little tired of hearing about how Nintendo starts a game on one system and ends up taking so long that they bring it to the next system instead. We just end up getting a ton of games that take forever to release and that don't fully utilize a system's graphical power. (Pikmin 3 and Twilight Princess, to name a few.)

Re: Aonuma Explains His Quest to Have Improved the "Overall Game Flow" of The Wind Waker HD

DerpSandwich

I know I'm in the minority, but I really did not mind the stuff that they're "fixing" in WWHD. Everyone thought that the Triforce quest at the end was like, the most terrible and boring thing in the universe, but I never would have even thought of it as a problem if so many people weren't so vocal about it. I love treasure hunting in the ocean, and I loved having something to spend all my rupees on, and I really didn't mind the break in the "flow" of the game. It's weird; I just really didn't mind it at all.

Same with the sailing speed. I thought it was a lot of fun, and the slow speed made it more interesting and rewarding somehow. And right when it would have gotten a little too tedious, you get the ability to warp.

But I guess if these are problem for most people, it's good that they're changing it. Though I wish I could choose to have more of this stuff the way it was before, beyond just not buying the new sail.

Re: Early Estimates Place Pikmin 3 August Sales in the U.S. at 185,000 Units

DerpSandwich

@AugustusOxy I loved the game, though I was also disappointed by certain aspects of it. However, saying it's the shortest of the series is just untrue. Pikmin 1 can be beaten 100% in three or four hours. People who are rushing through 3 are reporting eight hours at least, around 20 for 100%. It's much more densely packed with obstacles and such, where 1 was just kind of like, "run around and grab them all, and you're done in one sitting."

Re: Club Nintendo Rewards Updated for September

DerpSandwich

I've always wanted to try a Mario Vs. Donkey Kong game, so maybe I'll give this one a go. (The new one doesn't interest me at all, however.)

I'm sort of interested in Art Academy too, but I think I'd rather play a Wii U version if anything, so I think I'll wait.

Re: Rayman Legends Sells More Copies In The UK On Wii U Than Any Other Format

DerpSandwich

It's funny how so many people said they weren't going to buy the game/not buy it on Wii U because of the delay. That's literally the opposite of what you should do. If you really want to stick it to them, you've got to buy it on the platform it was planned for. You've got to show them that it's worth developing for. Otherwise you're just proving that their decision was a good one.

But a lot of people don't tend to understand the economics of this stuff...

Re: Video: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Has a Gorgeous New Story Trailer

DerpSandwich

@Guitardude7 From Wikipedia:

"A high-definition remastering, titled The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, will be released for Wii U on September 20, 2013 digitally and October 4, 2013 on disc."

Also, logic. How would it be worth the time and money to literally build a game from the ground up with all new code, redesigning every single aspect when you've already got the source code for the original? It would take just as long as making an all new game. And look at the footage--it's identical, apart from the new polish. Literally "remaking" the game wouldn't make sense.

Re: Video: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Has a Gorgeous New Story Trailer

DerpSandwich

Despite being a port, I think this is the first Wii U game that actually has a lot of potential to move some systems. There are a lot of kids that aren't old enough to have enjoyed it the first time around, and to them this is just a brand new gorgeous Zelda game. I know I'd buy a Wii U to play this if I hadn't already bought one and played WW when it was released. That trailer is beyond amazing.

Re: Wii U Deluxe Model Gets Official $50 Price Cut in North America

DerpSandwich

@BossBattles One more time I'm going to have to ask you to be respectful or I'm going to report you to a moderator. We're all adults here, and being condescending is not necessary.

As for your question, the N64 launched with Super Mario 64, which was worth the price of the console alone. It was a revolution in 3D gameplay, something no one had ever seen before.

The Gamecube launched with Luigi's Mansion and saw Smash Bros. and Pikmin in the few months following. All three were some of the system's strongest games, and they all came before the year's end.

The Wii launched with a brand new Zelda game, which was significant enough to make the system worth it by itself. It also launched with Wii Sports, which was revolutionary at the time.

The Wii U launched with a 2D Mario game which was almost identical to the other three 2D Mario games we'd received in the last few years. It also launched with Nintendo Land and ZombiU, which were good, but nothing to run out and buy a system over. The next major first party release was Pikmin, which came nearly a year later.

So yes, the Wii U launch has most definitely been worse than other console launches. I was never disappointed in any of those systems, but I'm disappointed now.

Re: Wii U Deluxe Model Gets Official $50 Price Cut in North America

DerpSandwich

@BossBattles Wow, chill, dude. No need to be snotty.

I've enjoyed it too, but there haven't been a lot of games. Both the Wii U and the 3DS launched with very few games, then later dropped in price when games finally began to come out. This is encouraging us as consumers to just wait until the games and the price drop. I've had a lot of fun with it, but if I'd waited I could have gotten an awesome Zelda-themed system for even cheaper than I paid.

Re: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies Will Not Be Getting A Boxed Copy in The West

DerpSandwich

Most people care a lot about physical copies, but I personally think in a way this is a great step for the industry. It costs a lot of money to manufacture and ship a game in a given territory, so now that it's easier to go digital it's easier and less costly to release a game. I'm sure there have been tons and tons of games over the years that haven't come to one region or another because they didn't think they could sell enough to justify printing them. But now they can just release a game digitally and cut down on risk. I think this is a good practice, myself. I'd rather have a digital game than no game at all. If going digital means we get to have games that never would have made it over here, then that's awesome.

Re: GameStop Sales and Profits Take a Hit Ahead of Vital Shopping Period

DerpSandwich

@Peach64 It's not quite as good here in the US, but I'd say it's still pretty much better to get stuff online. Amazon is usually cheaper, and nearly everything has free delivery. And if you're willing to sit around for a little while you can usually find way cheaper copies online. Even a month after release you can easily score a game for ten bucks less, whereas retail always goes with the MSRP, which can take a year to drop. I don't think I've been to a Gamestop in about six years, now that I think of it...

Re: Review: Donkey Kong (3DS eShop / NES)

DerpSandwich

I gotta hand it to you guys. You're troopers for reviewing this kind of stuff. I've lost track of how many versions of these games there are, and they're always the same, and I'm never interested. But you guys are journalists, dammit, and if there's something to report, you're there! Hats off to you for getting us all the details no matter what.
