Re: Video: This Is What It Will Be Like To Play Guitar Hero Live

I like that they're trying something new, but there's no way I'm buying new controllers for basically the same experience. If they're going to bring it back, why are they shooting themselves in the foot like this? People who already have the instruments are their install base, and they're throwing that away.

Re: Humble Nindie Bundle Adds Three New Games

DerpSandwich

Darn, I was hoping for something to push me over the edge. But as it stands I've already got the ones I'm interested in on Steam, and can't justify paying ten bucks to be able to play them on my Nintendo systems. Well, maybe next time!

Re: Review: Blocky Bot (Wii U eShop)

Call me a jerk, but this trend of naming everything like Flappy Bird makes me want to ignore a game no matter how good it is. It's like, get an original idea and stop trying to capitalize on an already-popular game.

I don't want to pop balloons. I want 4-on-4 system link. Remember how you could link two Xboxes up to each other and do that, two generations ago? Yeah, I do.

The gamepad is NOT required. Use a second stick instead of gyro aiming--one aspect of the gamepad fixed. When you die, it brings up a map menu where you can choose where to jump--done. Now we can have local multiplayer. Thanks Nintendo, please make it happen now.

Re: Review: Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition (3DS)

DerpSandwich

I played the demo over and over and over again. I really enjoy the gameplay and would love to have this game...but I just can't justify the price. And I don't buy the "but it's like getting two whole games" argument. It's like getting an otherwise free game and a lazy clone. I would put down $15 in a heartbeat, but even if it's the best match three game in the world, a match three game ain't worth $30.

Here's hoping I can find it cheap someday.

Re: Review: Pokémon Rumble World (3DS eShop)

DerpSandwich

Dang. I was really hoping "free to start" meant purchasing permanent content in little packs. Even if it's well-priced, I absolutely refuse to spend any amount of money on something that gets used up. So yet again, it's a game I'll play and never give a single cent to Nintendo for. I want to support the game, but I can't support the model. Frustrating.

Re: Review: Yoshi Touch & Go (Wii U eShop / DS)

DerpSandwich

I remember trying this out and being really underwhelmed.

Man, and this was a full retail title. I complain about game content/prices now, but the early days of DS were just filled with $30 games that offered about an hour of entertainment.

Re: Review: Super Mario 64 (Wii U eShop / Nintendo 64)

DerpSandwich

@BLPs I agree that there are tons of control problems. I don't understand how people can still think this game is so perfect but Ocarina of Time didn't age as well. I think it's the exact opposite. I play Super Mario 64 largely for nostalgia, and I still really like it, but I feel like it's showing its age.

Re: Review: Mario Kart DS (Wii U eShop / DS)

DerpSandwich

I remember being floored by the graphics when this came out. McDonald's had free wifi at the time, so I got dropped off there once so I could play online, and I was all, "I'm going to come here and play all the time!" and then I saw that every single game was just me and seven other players snaking past me. Every last one. So I stopped trying.

Also, BRING BACK CHALLENGE MODE! It's the reason this was the last Mario Kart I've ever felt was worth buying.

Re: Talking Point: It's Too Early to Write Off the Wii U Over The Legend of Zelda's Delay

DerpSandwich

I gave up on the Wii U long before the delay. This is just one more in a long line of blows. For the record though, I absolutely don't believe this has anything to do with putting it on the NX. That idea is completely absurd to me, and so is the idea that the NX will come out any time soon. End of 2017 at the earliest, and there's no way they would delay Zelda for two years just for that.

Re: Feature: Ten Must-Play Games for the Nintendo 3DS

DerpSandwich

@Caryslan I did enjoy LBW overall, though I also don't understand all the love it gets. Being based on a pre-existing world made it bland and boring, it was way too easy, and as you said, the item rental thing sort of defeated a lot of the purpose. Progression is one of the things I love most in Zelda. It was mildly fun, but not the second coming of 2D Zelda a lot of people make it out to be.

Re: The Legend of Zelda for Wii U No Longer Set for 2015 Release

DerpSandwich

I would be in the "better to get it right than to get it fast" camp if Skyward Sword wasn't a disappointment a half-decade in the making. Until I play it and see that it's the best Zelda game ever I'm going to be staring at my empty Wii U and thinking about how crappy this generation has been so far.

Re: Eiji Aonuma Reveals More Information About the Development of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

DerpSandwich

Man, they spent a single year on that game and it's one of the best Zeldas there is. Why can't they give us another game using the same engine? Why did it take three times as long just to give us an upgraded version of this one?

I feel like Nintendo spends too much time reinventing the wheel on nearly every console iteration as far as graphics and engine go. I have complete confidence that they could release Zeldas twice as fast if not faster if they would just use the same style a couple times in a row and focus on giving us a new story and dungeons, as they did with MM.
