Not sure how they're going to pull that off. Jim's creator, Doug TenNapel himself can't even really use the guy unless whatever publisher that holds the rights lets him. But maybe they worked something out.
I'm not sure I would put Super Mario 64 on that list. It was mind-blowingly revolutionary, but it hasn't aged very well, so I wouldn't call it one of the "greatest" games. I feel like a game needs to stand the test of time to really be great, like OoT. But that's just me.
Is there going to be a patch making it so I can do the different morphs using a button instead of awkwardly drawing pictures? Because that's pretty much the only thing making me not love the demo right now.
When I was a kid there were two Sonic shows: the cruddy one for kids, and the super awesome one where the world has been taken over and everyone is turned into robots and everything is super awesome and cool.
I wish they'd make another really cool Sonic cartoon, but after Sonic Adventure they seem bent on mixing humans into the world, which makes it really lame in my opinion.
The article says "no numbers have been given" and that they won't come until next month. So are the numbers on VGChartz lies, or what? Because those get updated every week.
@Subie98 Seriously! After five years, why was the world so small?? But I could go on and on about why I was disappointed with that game, haha.
People think Nintendo takes a lot of time to polish their games, but I think there are also big management problems in the company. I think they're just not good at managing their resources. No other company picks and chooses what IP they want to work on--if it's something they think is marketable, they work on it all the time. None of this "We MIGHT get around to making another [blank] game someday..." garbage.
Happy medium. Yearly? No way. Every five years? Horrible to wait for. So how about every two or three years? How about each time an all new game comes out, we get a "sequel" using much of the same code shortly after? Then they can take a bit more time to make one from the ground up.
I appreciate the level of quality in Zelda games, but I'm really not okay with how infrequently they release, especially seeing how great Majora's Mask turned out. I just hate how they have to pretty much start over every single time. Other systems get three or four games per series per generation, and they still get great scores. I would sacrifice a little quality to get more games, personally. (Especially when a game takes five years and then doesn't live up to your expectations, like Skyward Sword for me. Not a fun way to end a half-decade wait.)
Those prices are crazy! It's amazing that you can get such an awesome system for such a great price. For the cost of a 3DS at launch you can get a refurbished system and get four games. Quite the deal for late adopters.
@ACK I've seen a good chunk of people that were claiming to "boycot" Ubisoft or some nonsense. But the money point is definitely a good one; I very rarely buy games at full price, myself. It's hard to when you know the price is going to drop.
If anyone here is actually not buying Rayman because they're upset and want to "send a message," they're being very foolish. The only message you're sending is that they shouldn't make any more Rayman games. BUY THIS GAME, PEOPLE.
Hopefully it will get a boost this holiday and after. I know the first couple weeks are the most important, but they shouldn't count it out yet. There really are a lot of people that just had too much to get at this time of year.
With the booming popularity of the iOS app store, it kind of surprises me that people still find it worth their time to make all this garbage for the DS. It made more sense a few years ago, but now I just don't get it.
Nothing but Pikmin 3 for the last few weeks. I really slowly beat the game to savor the experience, but now that I have it's open season. I'm on my third playthrough now. I just wish the thing had more content, like Pikmin 2.
I honestly didn't think they were going to go so deep with the story on this one! ("It's on a handheld, which means we should strip it down and remove all elements of depth or story, derpy-doo!") Looks like I'll have to stop looking at stuff so I can be surprised.
@Kaze_Memaryu Calling critics idiots is childish. Claiming that they couldn't come up with anything better...well, you've probably never been on Deviant Art, let's just say that.
@JaxonH A lot of us aren't upset because it's not Metroid, but because it's not ANYTHING other than DK. They brought new life to both Metroid and DK, so after developing a new game for so many years we started to hope that they would be either revamping another old series or creating an amazing new one. I for one was disappointed in the announcement of this game. I absolutely loved DKCR, but it just seems like Retro's talent was wasted on this project. I'm also upset by the fact that it took so long to make, even though they already had the engine built and everything.
Basically I'm just saying that people are upset for other reasons too.
We've seriously got to stop pretending that this was delayed because it needed "more polish." It's incredibly obvious that they never intended on releasing it this year.
Looks pretty cool, though. Not quite as cool as I would expect from a DKCR sequel, but cool nonetheless.
I think that Nintendo abandoning the Wii is evidence that, while they're really awesome, they can be extremely stubborn and ignorant, and overall quite stupid as a company.
Like, what do you do when you've got one of the largest install bases in the history of gaming consoles? You stop producing software? Wow, good idea, Nintendo.
I have to say, I absolutely love the work western developers have been doing for Nintendo. I'm not going to open the whole "Japanese games suck" can of worms that certain members of the industry have been vocal about recently, but I will say that Donkey Kong Country Returns and Luigi's Mansion 2 are so much more inventive and charming than pretty much any Nintendo games I've played in years. In particular, the characters are all so expressive--something that Japanese developers don't really try to achieve. I hope Nintendo continues to hand the reigns over to their western partners.
Whenever they try something new it ends up awesome. Look at Marjora's Mask and Skyward Sword. (The latter was disappointing in certain ways, but the changes themselves were awesome.)
I'm simultaneously excited and worried. Excited that they're into making more Pikmin content. Worried that they're just moving around items in a pre-existing map and selling it to us. I'm worried that we'll only ever get mission mode DLC, and it will hardly be worth buying. Worried that because they can just feed us little tidbits like this, they'll never offer any sort of map editor (which is my ultimate dream--I would pay just about any amount of additional money for one).
I just hope this feature adds depth of strategy without making the game easier. If we can just grind for rupees and rent/buy what we need to blast through the game I'll be pretty bummed.
It's kind of curious, considering the game looks pretty conservative in the graphical department. How can Resident Evil Revelations and Kid Icarus run in 3D but not these barely-post-N64 character models running around a pretty bland-looking map?
On the other hand, I actually am happy to see developers ditching 3D when they don't want it. I'd like to see what the 3DS is really capable of when it's not rendering two images at once. This just doesn't seem like the best example of that though.
This guy was a stubborn jerk. Heck of a businessman though, and he was in charge during some of the best years Nintendo has had. Rest in peace, Mr. Yamauchi, and thank you.
@andrewmated I'm not saying it's a bad thing, and as I said, I understand that there are people that want it. I'm just surprised they think that there are ENOUGH of those people. This game just seems a little too obscure to have any significant retail success. But hey, if they thought it was a good idea I guess they know what they're doing.
@Peach64 I absolutely agree. The Wii Sports crowd doesn't give two darns about online play and HD graphics. Like, none.
All in all I also just think this is lazy. We've been waiting for the next sports title and they end up giving us an upgrade to the old one. They couldn't have added two new games or something? And seriously, ten bucks each? All in all I feel like this is an immediately sort of cool but implicitly terrible announcement. It really does seem like they're not even trying anymore.
I have no idea why they think this is a good idea. A newer version based on a super old game based on show that hasn't been popular in decades doesn't seem like the sort of thing that needs to take up space on the shelf at the store.
I know plenty of people prefer a hard copy, but from a business standpoint I don't see how they would make up enough of the population to warrant manufacturing and shipping and stocking and selling them. Especially when you consider that, as many people are commenting, everyone already got their digital copies! I just don't get it.
I just figured they would try to use the power of the franchise to sell some Wii U's! Hopefully when they bring it over here they'll give us a meaty HD version. The Wii U needs some really graphically top-notch games.
Same here, man. I feel like such an enormous and expertly-realized world would be incredibly fun to play around in, but all that junk just doesn't interest me. And I'm not prudish--I can take pretty much any amount of violence and whatnot if it's in good taste or just fun in its own senseless sort of way, but when you get into the gratuitous sexuality and things like torture you can count me out. The top-down games were awesome because they were just silly and fun, but when they went 3D it suddenly became all about killing hookers and purposefully pushing the boundaries of taste just for shock value.
I'd never get on anyone's case for liking the series, as everyone is allowed to like whatever they want, but yeah, it's just not a game for me. Maybe if they released a big sandbox game where you could also stop crime or do any number of other fun things I might be interested. But this is just too much.
I'm not disappointed. It's pretty much a rule of the universe that great announcements always come out of nowhere, and teasing an announcement ahead of time means it's going to be lame. It's just the way things work.
If I'm feeling responsible I'll end up finishing Pikmin 3 or Luigi's Mansion 2 or any number of games I've started and yet to finish. But more realistically I'll probably end up zoning out on Plants Vs. Zombies on my Kindle, despite the fact that I've already wasted about a bajillion hours playing it on PC. Or worse, I'll start Toki Tori 2. (With all these games to finish, starting a new game is probably worse than zoning out on an old one.)
@LDXD Me too, they really need to shake things up a bit. I think RPG elements can make just about any game better. I mean, as long as we're killing monsters we might as well get rewarded for it, right? Nothing more satisfying than gaining experience and levels.
A Zelda game with more RPG elements sounds like something that would be right up my alley. Unfortunately I can never play this game for more than five minutes without becoming frustrated and quitting.
