Re: First Impressions: Getting Creative With Mario Maker

DerpSandwich

My only worry was that in all the Treehouse footage the levels were extremely short, no more than a few screens long. I'm really hoping this isn't the case, as that would make these more like little challenges than actual levels. But I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Re: Digital Foundry Pins Down Mario Kart 8's Resolution and Framerate

DerpSandwich

@Azooooz I don't know why everyone keeps saying this. I have a 32" 1080p and the difference between 720 and 1080 is extremely noticeable. It's the difference between straight lines and jaggy ones. Some people are less nitpicky than me, and that's fine, but too many people are under the impression that it actually makes no difference.

Re: Reaction: Mario Kart 8 Accused Of Poor Sales Potential, Ruining Battle Mode And Racism

DerpSandwich

The other stuff is just silly, but the battle mode point is valid at least for a lot of people. I'm one of the few, the proud, the Wii U owners, and while I was already only considering buying the game somewhere down the line if I've ever got nothing else to play, learning about the lack of arenas completely robbed me of any desire to buy the game. My best times with Mario Kart have always been battle mode, and doing it this way sounds really unappealing. I know not everyone's like me, but it's not a completely invalid complaint.

Re: Review: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (Wii U eShop)

DerpSandwich

I really enjoyed this game when it came out. I'm still a little bitter toward the series for basically replacing Paper Mario as the proper RPG series, but I really look forward to playing the other three games. I've been meaning to get to them for years, and the demo for the 3DS one was a blast.

Re: Nintendo Releases An Awesome Mario Kart Infographic

DerpSandwich

Funny enough, this one pic explains the Wii U difference better than every direct attempt they've made. Anyone who looks at this is going to see that it's on a new system with better graphics. The difference in color between the Wii and the Wii U helps differentiate them.

Re: Feature: What We Want to See in Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Direct

DerpSandwich

I'm torn for two different reasons.

I don't want to watch the stream because it's always a laggy mess, sometimes even being completely unwatchable. But if I wait until it goes up on the eShop, they'll probably spoil some character with a big picture before I can get the video started. (The huge Mega Man pic completely ruined the surprise when I went to watch the E3 ND.)

Then, I don't want to have every character spoiled for me, so I don't want to watch the presentation, but I know that the buzz online is going to be too loud for me not to hear anyway. And I'm not going to avoid gaming websites for the better part of a year just to prevent spoilers.

Man, things were a lot simpler before the internet! Remember getting Melee and being actually surprised every time you unlocked a character? Not sure why they're intent on telling us every last thing about this game.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Direct Will Bring the Hype on 8th April

DerpSandwich

Is it weird that I'm pretty much only disappointed that we're not getting a full ND? I guess I'm hard to please, huh?

It's just that we didn't get one last month, we're not getting one this month, and they're not going to give us any good info the month before E3, so what, we get three a year now? We need announcements more than ever.

Re: Review: I Am In The Movie (DSiWare)

DerpSandwich

@mr570 It was insanely fun! When the GBA came out I was waiting for a sequel, thinking it was inevitable! Then we start getting systems with built in cameras, and we get a couple apps, but nothing like Gameboy Camera. I don't even know how much I played that thing... The fact that Nintendo hasn't done something like that is baffling to me.

Re: The Wonderful 101 Saving Wallets on Wii U eShop

DerpSandwich

@TysonOfTime That one made sense, and was a control style that achieved something not otherwise possible, so I was happy to practice at it. (I also didn't find it as difficult as some people, as I cut my teeth years ago on Metroid Prime Hunters.) It's the fact that the system in W101 is shoehorned in that bothers me. It's like they just wanted to have some use for the gamepad, and also to stick the Okami drawing thing in.

Re: The Wonderful 101 Saving Wallets on Wii U eShop

DerpSandwich

@UltraGoldenrod I've tried both methods, and I hate them both. Even if I can get sort of used to it, it annoys my how un-intuitive and forced it is. I just feel like it's something they included just to do it, and it's a hurdle we shouldn't have to get over every time we want to play the game.

Re: The Wonderful 101 Saving Wallets on Wii U eShop

DerpSandwich

I really, REALLY wish I was more into this game. I want to support it as both a new IP and a Wii U title, but I didn't like the demo enough. The whole drawing mechanic is just a huge pain in the butt, and I can only wail on endless dudes for so long before I get bored.

But I hope a lot of people pick it up at this price, though I don't know why they wouldn't have already picked it up for $24 on Amazon.

Re: Swedish Speedrunner Breaks Record For Fastest Zelda: Majora's Mask Playthrough

DerpSandwich

I wish there was a community for speed runs that don't involve glitches at all. When I see this number it means literally nothing to me. For all I know you just roll at the wall the right way a couple times and glitch yourself right to the last boss.

I want to see how fast people can legitimately beat a game. Then I've got some sort of frame of reference and can be like, "Wow, that's super fast!"

Re: Review: Yoshi's New Island (3DS)

DerpSandwich

"...foregoing exploration and depth to ensure accessibility."

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why Nintendo games just aren't what they used to be. They're doing away with depth in basically every series.
