My only worry was that in all the Treehouse footage the levels were extremely short, no more than a few screens long. I'm really hoping this isn't the case, as that would make these more like little challenges than actual levels. But I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I just hope I ALSO get to push some blocks from time to time. I'm all for shaking up the formula, but there are some things that really make it a Zelda game. Change too many and you're just playing a different game.
I don't know why he didn't just say the system wasn't capable of doing it, as the PS4 and Xbone were specifically built with extra dedicated processing power for recording and streaming video. If he said that we would all just be like, "Oh," and that would have been the end of it.
In true Nintendo fashion, they've taken a genre that I normally have no interest in and made a game that I'm genuinely excited to play. With one small mechanic they've added layers of strategy and depth that change the whole experience.
I came here thinking that OF COURSE there wouldn't be any spoilers so close to the time of the event. OF COURSE nothing would be dropping with AN HOUR to go. That's what I get for making assumptions, huh?
Oh well, it's not like I wait for this all year or anything.
One of my absolute favorites, and I can only hope they make them in this style again someday. Gorgeous 2D visuals rather than bland 3D ones would probably be what I like best about Minish Cap, but everything about it is just amazing. Give the series back to Flagship!
@Kobeskillz I can't stand the traffic, as you said, and the desert and the terrible water and just the huge grossness of so much city... But to each his own, I guess. There's a lot of great stuff there too. I'm up in Redding, I gotta have mah trees.
It stinks how everything comes to California but I live pretty much as far away from where the stuff ends up as possible. I'm a nine-hour drive from LA.
(But it also doesn't stink living here, because I find Southern California to be entirely awful.)
I really hope they don't hold back reveals during the event to spring them on us during other stuff. I want to be watching when news breaks, and I'm not going to be watching everything during the whole four days.
I liked the first one and wondered if I should get the second. If I decide to go at it again, should I just skip to this one? That's kind of how I'm leaning.
@Azooooz I don't know why everyone keeps saying this. I have a 32" 1080p and the difference between 720 and 1080 is extremely noticeable. It's the difference between straight lines and jaggy ones. Some people are less nitpicky than me, and that's fine, but too many people are under the impression that it actually makes no difference.
While I'm not interested in this game, I think it's a great idea to use the Zelda IP in different ways. We want to explore different gameplay possibilities and play as different characters. Look up Hyrule: Total War if you haven't yet. That's the sort of thing that would be awesome if Nintendo did it.
Poop. I've been meaning to get some extra puzzles on Picross 3D, but it looks like I'm going to miss the boat. Sure wish I could connect to my wifi without changing a ton of settings.
The other stuff is just silly, but the battle mode point is valid at least for a lot of people. I'm one of the few, the proud, the Wii U owners, and while I was already only considering buying the game somewhere down the line if I've ever got nothing else to play, learning about the lack of arenas completely robbed me of any desire to buy the game. My best times with Mario Kart have always been battle mode, and doing it this way sounds really unappealing. I know not everyone's like me, but it's not a completely invalid complaint.
Still got mine in a box! I loved playing Mario Tennis, and probably would have bought other games if I had ever seen any for sale. My eyes never got tired, though the skin around them did get awfully sweaty.
Say goodbye to actual conversations. Once again Nintendo regulates exactly how we interact with each other on their platform rather than just letting us make our own choices.
I really enjoyed this game when it came out. I'm still a little bitter toward the series for basically replacing Paper Mario as the proper RPG series, but I really look forward to playing the other three games. I've been meaning to get to them for years, and the demo for the 3DS one was a blast.
Funny enough, this one pic explains the Wii U difference better than every direct attempt they've made. Anyone who looks at this is going to see that it's on a new system with better graphics. The difference in color between the Wii and the Wii U helps differentiate them.
I don't want to watch the stream because it's always a laggy mess, sometimes even being completely unwatchable. But if I wait until it goes up on the eShop, they'll probably spoil some character with a big picture before I can get the video started. (The huge Mega Man pic completely ruined the surprise when I went to watch the E3 ND.)
Then, I don't want to have every character spoiled for me, so I don't want to watch the presentation, but I know that the buzz online is going to be too loud for me not to hear anyway. And I'm not going to avoid gaming websites for the better part of a year just to prevent spoilers.
Man, things were a lot simpler before the internet! Remember getting Melee and being actually surprised every time you unlocked a character? Not sure why they're intent on telling us every last thing about this game.
Is it weird that I'm pretty much only disappointed that we're not getting a full ND? I guess I'm hard to please, huh?
It's just that we didn't get one last month, we're not getting one this month, and they're not going to give us any good info the month before E3, so what, we get three a year now? We need announcements more than ever.
Wouldn't it be really simple to include an option to switch between place-based items and purely random ones? Wouldn't the entire game be fixed if they included an option to turn off certain items? But I guess Nintendo, huh? Yeah. Nintendo.
@mr570 It was insanely fun! When the GBA came out I was waiting for a sequel, thinking it was inevitable! Then we start getting systems with built in cameras, and we get a couple apps, but nothing like Gameboy Camera. I don't even know how much I played that thing... The fact that Nintendo hasn't done something like that is baffling to me.
@TysonOfTime That one made sense, and was a control style that achieved something not otherwise possible, so I was happy to practice at it. (I also didn't find it as difficult as some people, as I cut my teeth years ago on Metroid Prime Hunters.) It's the fact that the system in W101 is shoehorned in that bothers me. It's like they just wanted to have some use for the gamepad, and also to stick the Okami drawing thing in.
@UltraGoldenrod I've tried both methods, and I hate them both. Even if I can get sort of used to it, it annoys my how un-intuitive and forced it is. I just feel like it's something they included just to do it, and it's a hurdle we shouldn't have to get over every time we want to play the game.
I really, REALLY wish I was more into this game. I want to support it as both a new IP and a Wii U title, but I didn't like the demo enough. The whole drawing mechanic is just a huge pain in the butt, and I can only wail on endless dudes for so long before I get bored.
But I hope a lot of people pick it up at this price, though I don't know why they wouldn't have already picked it up for $24 on Amazon.
I would think the point about trying to make the Wii U more appealing made more sense if they didn't announce GBA games before the sales really started to look bad.
I think it's cool that a lot of people will be able to enjoy these games on this platform, but I'm just not doing it. It's completely ridiculous, even if there are a couple semi-understandable reasons.
@MegaWatts I understand all that, and it takes a lot of skill; I just wish there was an alternative. A good speed run with glitches is impressive to someone who knows the ins and outs of the game, but a good speed run without can be appreciated by any person who even played the game.
I wish there was a community for speed runs that don't involve glitches at all. When I see this number it means literally nothing to me. For all I know you just roll at the wall the right way a couple times and glitch yourself right to the last boss.
I want to see how fast people can legitimately beat a game. Then I've got some sort of frame of reference and can be like, "Wow, that's super fast!"
This is a bummer. You would think that if they were shutting it down forever, they would have a better sale than "50% off select titles". How about 80% off ALL titles? Do you have any idea how much music I would buy?
Oh my gosh. I remember being a kid and my friend and I thinking about how having a pet Yoshi would be the coolest freaking thing in the world. That soon gave way to Pokemon, however.
