Video: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Has Us Excited (And Scared)

I don't really have feelings either way. I've never been really interested in Pokemon, but this game looks somewhat intriguing. If it reviews well I may give it a try.

I'm excited and i expect it will be at least good, i bet the fanbase kicks off over some petty or stupid reasons though with it.

Preorded and looking forward to something different. Just wish there was more info and gameplay footage

I'm very excited for this game (haven't been as excited for a Pokemon game like this since ORAS) but what worries me is the fact that we don't know as much about the game as we should know since this is a new direction for a Pokemon game.
Usually I would be glad if a company doesn't spoil to much beforehand but since the past few entries were pretty lackluster (imo) the lack of news concerns me

As long as it runs, I think it'll be fine. At the very least, it shows they tried to make something interesting and innovative. At the very best, it could be a renaissance for the series. In any case, I'm so excited to try it out!

Cautious optimism is the bottom line. This coincides with the wife's bday and while she got into the series with the 3DS games, she's already craving a game that changes up the formula. So nonetheless we're both excited to play.

At this rate, I'm expecting it to be a slightly more fleshed out version of The Crown Tundra, and I'm content with that.

I'm certainly not expecting this to be a game-changing masterpiece or a "Breath of the Wild" style experience, but being a long-time Pokémon fan, I've learned that one's expectations can always be knocked down a peg (or three).

Weirdly enough, I'm not terribly excited about it either, but like Breath of the Wild, I never cared for watching gameplay footage. The appeal is in the experience, and no amount of gameplay footage is going to excite me one way or the other. But I have a good feeling that I will love the game and enjoy losing myself in its world.

And I would absolutely lose my marbles if TPCi extend similar treatment to Gen II soon, with remakes followed by something like Legends: Celebi. As my favourite generation of all, I yearn for a fresh take on Johto.

I didn't buy the diamond/ pearl remake, even though I adore piplup.

I've been wanting pokemon to evolve as the tech does (and try new things).

Looking forward to it since the trailers after the initial one make it seem more MH-like than BotW-like but find it very weird that we're 3 weeks away from launch and we know very little. Even Animal Crossing had a big Direct 4 weeks prior to launch.

This is the first Pokémon game I’ve been excited for since Sun and Moon in 2016. Everything after Sun and Moon has been nothing more than pretty good (aside from the Ultra games but they were just enhanced versions of Sun and Moon). However, I really enjoyed the DLC for Sword and Shield (despite the base game being mediocre) so I’m all for this more “open” style iteration. Cautiously looking forward to playing through this game!

Considering how soon this game is releasing and how little we know, yeah I would be worried too.

The headline sums it up perfectly.

From what we know right now the gameplay loop is “watch a Pokémon use a move 50 times, repeat”

The game just looks too safe.

Scared becouse the developers are kinda silent, more videos? New trailer? More info?
I hope it is more challenging than what i already saw.

Im trying temper my expectations. Its a new formula for an established franchise but I still think they will play things fairly safe but all I can hope is that its fun and worth the 60 dollars and that they take these awesome new features into future games and improve on them

And that is why I i'm waiting! and see how everyone takes it.

If it ends up blowing everyone’s socks off then I might pick it up down the line but right now I’m not feeling it and I don’t plan on buying it.

I don't feel overwhelming excitement for this game, but I pre-ordered it, and I'm giving it a shot. All I can hope for is that it's good, but I feel like most of the fanbase is going to bash it for not having something like breeding or abilities, if those two things don't return.

@The-Chosen-one The devs are way too silent, and taking past games in the series into account, they generally reveal all the side features and gameplay-related stuff before the game comes out. We haven't seen much new in terms of gameplay, so it makes me think we probably saw all the game has to offer in that regard. Hope I'm wrong though, since if I'm not, then we're just stuck with stuff like character customization and photos as side content for this entry.

You remember the BotW situation way differently from me.
BotW was maybe one of the biggest hype games of all time, from the very first short trailer, many people couldn't wait to get their hands on it.
The game carried the entire release of the Switch on it's own, when it came out. Sure some people were skeptical, but they always felt more like a small minority.

At release, the game was flooded with extremely positive reviews, while some people are very vocal about not liking the changes, considering the overwhelming praise there was from players as well, this game may even be the no. 1 Zelda game, when it comes to fan reception over all.

With Arceus people seem waaaaay more sceptical or cautious.
The amount of hype before release deosn't seem comparable even in the slightest.

I generally try not to be 'Mr Doom & Gloom' and approach new things with an open mind but considering how awful Pokemon's track record has been since Ultra Sun & Moon, I have very little hopes that this game will turn out good, especially considering how bad and barebones the overworld segments look which is the feature of the game that the developers are REALLY try to sell the consumers on.

The gameplay is most likely just going to be: go out to field, catch pokemon to fill dex, battle a rare mon, rinse and repeat. I highly doubt there will be an interesting plot, meaningful side-quests, any form of side activities (stuff like minigames) and in typical modern Pokemon fashion, any kind of postgame to keep the player coming back once the main campaign is over.

Considering the game is out in just THREE WEEKS and the developers have barely shown anything about the game outside of how the battle system works, a few characters and the aforementioned barren fields, I predict this game is going to extremely light in content and general gameplay variety. I would love to be wrong but at this point I think it's easy to figure out why I'm going into new Pokemon games with a cynical eye.

I got really excited about this one when first announced, but the interest has been decreasing since, especially as it has been moving from a BOTW like to an MH-like game with each trailer and update, which I do not prefer. If the reviews are fine and there is at least some degree of challenge in the game (something pokemon has totally lost in the last years), it can still be a good option

@iLikeUrAttitude People will be quick to bring up "Yeah but we knew very little about Pokemon Sword & Shield just before they came out! They're intentionally hiding information to make room for surprises!" but I just want to say two things:

1) SW/SH turned out god awful so that's REALLY not the smoking gun that a lot of people think it is

2) While I would generally agree that a developer releasing VERY little information about a game before launch is usually a good thing because it makes room for surprises, in Pokemon's case literally everytime they've done that it's because the game has so little to offer that they sort of HAVE to hide information before the game launches because otherwise they'll spoil the entire game.

This game is out in a few weeks and there's been hardly any gameplay, what little we have seen wasn't that impressive, we still know hardly anything about it. I'm getting GTA Definitive Trilogy vibes with this desperately hope I'm wrong because I want Pokémon to be good again but I just don't think this game will be very good

It'll sell 10m+ copies and still be considered equally a flop and a success at the same time. Like Call of Duty.

Oh I heavily agree, especially with the second portion of your statement.
Sword and Shield barely changed if at all from what we were initially shown at E3 that year. What we saw is basically what we got.

As for "saving stuff for surprises" if this were any other company I would probably agree but as you mentioned this is gamefreak we're talking about.
At this point before the game's launch we would've already gotten say a direct showing a whole bunch of info like splatoon, animal crossing or even ARMS. Or showing bits of info on social media.
From what was shown to us which is only a couple of trailers the game unfortunately looks barebones.

Shield kinda killed my interest in the franchise. So I ain't in no rush to blow my cash. Definitely holding out for reviews and gameplay for this.

I definitely give credit to GameFreak for finally being open to trying something new, but unfortunately for me, it's too little, too late because of the mandatory Exp. Share. From what they've shown so far, this game looks like it's nothing but fetch quests and you're supposed to spend time exploring the overworld instead of following a more conventional plot. But even if there is a plot, it's probably going to be something trivial like "explore the region to complete the first Sinnoh Pokedex ever while defeating [insert Evil Team here]". I expect we'll get a Pokemon Direct soon with more information.

Well, looks good but i have to get some PS3 and PS4 games for my purchase time in February 2022.
I will get Pokemon Legend of Arceus very late since i want to collect other machine games first.

Remaining cautiously optimistic for this one but I'm really not holding my breath for quality. I hope I'm wrong and that it'll be decent. I'll wait for some reviews and fan impressions once the game drops and decide on my purchase there.

Most anticipated game of 2022! Deliberately skipped the last pokemon games, so I wouldn't be poke'd out for this one! Dont disappoint me game freak I've waited 24 years!

It looks like a nice pokemon world to wander, and that is the main attraction to me. Will it be a good game? I don't have too high expectations, but I do hope so!

I feel like I'm going to like it but im honestly just waiting for reviews/first impressions ..first. It looks cool but is also looks very ... empty. I don't know what I expect to see or what I hope it is other than an open-world Pokémon game but... yeah. I will say: I am more excited for this than I was for BD/SP.

I'm tempering my expectations, because I think the rumours that proper Gen IX games are coming holidays 2022 might have some merit to them, and that would mean GameFreak split their resources on this on top of the short dev window.

But on the other hand I'm excited because unlike BDSP, this is actually a new game. Developed by GameFreak. With new Pokemon, new characters, new music, new Sugimori art, the works. So that's something at least.

Thought sword and shield was too easy to finish the actual story and had way too many Pokemon to bother trying to catch all the damn things, to the point I couldn't be bothered with the recent remakes (as pretty as they were).

Kept away from everything but the initial trailer on this. I'm just hoping it's got a decent playtime for the story and good gameplay so that I care about finishing the Pokedex really

I just hope I like it more than BDSP, which I ended up not liking due to lack of difficulty until Cynthia and just... general boredom.

I'm not really a Pokemon fan but my boyfriend is, a massive one in fact. He had an air of disappointment about Sword/Shield which became a full on fog with Shining Pearl. What gets me is that they make literally billions so surely the games should be incredible? Is it that they don't put enough time into them like a Nintendo core series like Zelda? I keep saying to him that Arceus could be Pokemon's BOTW but has it been in development long enough? I hope for every Pokemon lover out there that it is as incredible as it ought to be.

This will be nothing like BOTW, these are the same clowns that made Sword and Shield, which everyone was CONVINCED was going to be Pokemon BOTW... it wasn't, and neither is this.

It'll sell like crazy because Pokemon but it'll be low effort junk because its Pokemon. People need to get use to this fact now.

For most (recent, since the fifth generation or so) mainline Pokémon games, if you compile all of the information they released before the game was out, you can ditch GameFAQS because you've already got an in-depth walkthrough of the entire game. All of the important locations, all of the key characters, all of the new Pokémon, all of the new moves, all of the new mechanics, ...

If they made one last Pokémon presentation before the game launches, that would put any worry aside... they could talk about BDSP's updates and Home compatibility as well.

Or, they could update this game continually, if that's what they are aiming to.

Looks pretty cool. I’ve never been a massive Pokémon fan, but I picked up Pearl for Christmas and have been enjoying it way more than I thought I would. It’s a great game to play in bed. So I’ll finish that before getting a copy of this.
