The latest UK charts are in and it's pretty unremarkable, all told.
FIFA 23 regains its dominance at number one after slipping down to number two last week. The Switch version made up 25% of the split, coming in behind the PlayStation 5 version at 41%.
No Nintendo titles enter the top ten this week, but the Switch still has some strong representation with the likes of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo Switch Sports, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Minecraft, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto V has once again entered the top ten, which is frankly just absurd at this point. As a reminder, the game originally launched back in September 2013 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 - nearly a decade ago.
Let's take a look at the top ten:
Last Week | This Week | Game |
---|---|---|
2 |
1 | FIFA 23 |
1 |
2 | God of War Ragnarok |
3 |
3 | Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II |
4 |
4 | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe |
6 |
5 | Nintendo Switch Sports |
5 |
6 | Pokémon Violet |
9 |
7 | Minecraft |
8 |
8 | Animal Crossing: New Horizons |
7 |
9 | Pokémon Scarlet |
11 |
10 | Grand Theft Auto V |

I can't believe "Gof of War Ragnarok" fell to the #2 spot
I would be interested to know how many each game actually sells in this weekly round up
@EaglyTheKawaiiShika,
Fifa is such a popular game in the U.K, gamers need their football fix, and at this point I don't think Mario Kart will ever fall out of the chart.
You can’t win with portable FIFA at the moment. The Switch gets shafted with a copy and paste job and the Steam Deck has the issue that if you don’t have Wifi it doesn’t boot.
I get that games want anti-cheat software, but you should, heck it should almost be law, that single player, offline is playable without the need to connect.
I wish I had a list of every EA employee so I could treat them how they treat their customers. If one came in for a coffee, I would serve them an old one I warmed up - and if they tried to set at a table I would require them to show me two forms of ID and proof of address
At this point, I wish MK8D would get more DLC- even if just new characters, costumes and mini games we see in Tour. The new tracks are alright, extend the life of the game a little bit, but not much more than a few hours per expansion pack. Highly doubt they do much else with it until the next system, but I can dream.
Looks like it's going to be another close year.
GTA shows its ugly face at 10th again on the charts
How are Mario Kart 8 and GTA5 still selling. Doesn't pretty much everyone already own these at this point?
Absurd GTA is in the top ten, but fine Mario Kart is at number 4!
@Dman10 I like to think we're at a point in gaming where we're starting to see the emergence of timeless classics that people want to keep buying and playing in large numbers. Film and music have had this for decades, but for a long time gaming was always about bigger and prettier games and classics were more of a niche thing for a relative few (e.g. Super Metroid and Super Mario World will always appeal to fans, but won't shift tens of millions of copies). The total sales figures for GTAV and MK8D still only make up a relatively small percentage of the global population, and people who either weren't old enough or didn't exist when those games came out are likely wanting to play what their friends are still playing.
@Knightrider1 imagine wanting to harass thousands of innocent employees as if it’s not a decision that was 100% solely made by the higher ups.
@rockodoodle Mini games would be great, or some type of mission to do in single or multiplayer. I fail to see what value more characters and cars would add though, that's just fluff, and there's already an overabundance of it.
@Knightrider1 I know that you are likely exaggerating, but, come on, that's nonsense. On one hand, I agree that single player should be accessible without an internet connection, on the other hand I find it rather troubling that people want the government to meddle even more into creative media. Pay with your damn wallet.
@Knightrider1 : That sounds less like a Steam Deck issue and more like an EA one.
The fact that so many Steam games require an online connection even for single player games is precisely why I don't buy any games from the platform (well, aside from a handful of exclusives that I couldn't buy via GOG, but it's been a few years now since I've bought anything from Steam).
@Knightrider1 FIFA is garbage no matter what though.
@Dman10 Yeah but you had to realize most families bought multiple Switch (or Switch Lite) for their fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, etc., and each one wants their own copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Mario Kart 8 will also be a decade old next spring ...just as a reminder. People keep buying them like they're milk and bread. Both GTA 6 and the next Mario Kart will come out soon, though ...maybe. Eventually. Hopefully before I die.
...I still can't believe they're up there. Doesn't everyone and their grandma own a version of both of them at this point?
I love to see Animal Crossing and God of War doing so well, though. They are both wonderful games. Haven't played the others on the list except Minecraft, which ...well, it's Minecraft. Of course it's there. I'm not sure who still doesn't own it, though.
Also, FIFA. Here's the TLDR:
"Full AAA price every year for the exact same game with a basic roster update and a gambling addict's fever dream of a digital casino hellscape? Sign me up!"
@EaglyTheKawaiiShika Out of nowhere??
@Knightrider1 Or just don't play FIFA, it's a boring sport.
@Knightrider1 You're so funny!! I want to visit your coffee shop
Mario kart is a must buy for all new owners of a Switch. As for good new games on Switch... 😭
@Switch_Pro it would be cool to race with a Mario Maker version….or an Odyssey version of Bowser, Mario….yeah, it’s kind of silly, but cool.
@rockodoodle Wouldn't be too surprised if Mario Kart 9 has track creation tools. It's been done before in ModNation Racers and was very well received. Nintendo has precedent of this in other IP like Smash as well.
Gof of War Ragnarok #2 ?
Gta prob cos online play rockstar brought it two three generation of console Definitely know how to milk a dry cow! Was it the best gta not really Trevor made the game. Bit like cod trying charge 55quid for a old game with some frosting. When one gets pulls it off the rest will try. Good too see a Pokemon game and Mario kart in chart too good games
