@ShadLink are you saying they locked Tomb Raider to 30 fps on Switch 1 so even if I play it on Switch 2 it will stay at 30 fps? If so, that's awful. There are so many old 30 fps Switch games that now play at glorious 60 FPS so it would really suck if they somehow disabled Tomb Raider Definitive from benefiting from it. Link to some other games w/ performance bumps: https://www.nintendolife.com/features/33-games-with-secret-performance-bumps-you-should-revisit-on-switch-2?page=2
@ShadLink if all the other Switch 1 games I have played on Switch 2 are any indication, I bet the Switch 1 version of Tomb Raider Definitive will run at 60 fps on Switch 2 as well. So I get the added bonus of being able to play it on my Switch 1 where SD card memory is a lot more available and cheaper for me.
Of course I would greatly appreciate it if someone confirmed this is actually the case for me w/ Tomb Raider but that is definitely the trend I noticed (RE5, RE6, etc).
Judging from what I saw in the graphics comparison video, this makes more sense to buy it on Switch 1 and play it on Switch 2 for me since they clearly did not base the Switch 2 version off of the PS4 original. All I will lose is upscaling it sounds like.
I just played through RE5 last month on Switch 1. It performed well enough there but I tried out Mercenaries mode on Switch 2 and wow... MUCH smoother! I am now playing RE6. The framerate really tanks on Switch 1 so I am playing this one exclusively on Switch 2. It runs like a dream there.
@LastFootnote thank you. I regret letting my kids watch the Donkey Kong Bananza direct in its entirety. They were completely not surprised by anything when Pauline was revealed in-game and even knew it was about to happen when it happened. I will probably skip this last trailer for MP4 as I have already been hyped for this game for years now.
I didn't get to watch the video yet but did they mention how the online connectivity fares? I've played several matches w people in Soul Calibur II and noticed every time we connect the game's audio gets all garbled and sounds like it's underwater coming out of an old analog radio. I've also noticed frequent disconnects when playing some people as well as bad input latency online in general. Is there no rollback??
Damn... I just threw away $7 buying the Jalecolle Famicom version of Last Ninja 2 that just released last week lol. I should have waited. Without the amazing music of the originals, the game is much less appealing. I am REALLY hoping they let you change the video mode on these between PAL and NTSC for those of us who grew up playing it in the states and are used to the faster music.
@Anti-Matter I just meant if playing on a TV that has the option to interpolate the frames, might as well use it. It looks gorgeous. I played BotW and Tears of the Kingdom this way and enjoyed it moreso because of it.
Though I do see the point of having actual 60 FPS for handheld purposes since your TV can't help you there.
For anyone hoping for a 60 FPS patch for Animal Crossing, have you ever considered simply using the frame interpolation mode on your TV for this? Animal Crossing is not a competitive online game that requires zero input latency so there's no reason you should be subjecting yourselves to 30 fps when you can easily view it interpolated as 60 fps using TruMotion (LG TVs) or Auto Motion Plus (Samsung) for example. I played it for years this way and it looked beautiful. Or... just wait for a potential 60 FPS patch, you choose.
This article is 100% misleading. The new update does NOT allow you to hide games from the Home menu without uninstalling which is what I would think most people thought when they read the headline.
You can ONLY hide games from the Virtual Game Cards menu but their icon will stay on the Home menu regardless. Sorry, guess you will have to uninstall Hentai Heroes before giving that Switch to Timmy after all. He doesn't really have to be "tech-savvy" to view the Home menu.
...I mean are we going to just pretend that the superior charging power grip didn't exist 7 years ago? I use it to this day to charge my joycons while playing.
Unfortunately, it looks like I have reached the end of my search for SD Cards as it sounds like I pretty much have the best card that the Switch can support in terms of speed. As per https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-the-best-micro-sd-cards-for-nintendo-switch-7000: "The console only supports UHS-1 cards, which have a maximum possible speed of 104MB/s, compared to the 312MB/s speed limit of the more modern UHS-2 standard."
@Thorhax I just checked and what I have is a SanDisk 512GB Ultra microSDXC UHS-I Card - 120MB/s which I am hearing is slower than that Samsung Evo one? I see SanDisk has some Extreme ones that can supposedly reach 200 MB/s read speeds.
@Thorhax whhhaatt?! This is crazy, I didn't know it would make such a difference. But it also makes me wonder if the OLED model somehow is capable of loading data faster. Now I'm considering installing it to system memory though I don't know if it would even fit on my original Switch. Thx for sharing.
@Thorhax In Invasions it takes close to an entire minute to load a match. And if it's endurance, that's only for the first character. The second character gets loaded in during the match, causing a bunch of frame drops and slowdown.
Hmm, I don't really want to deal with the topic of death with my 2 & 4 year olds just yet so I'm very on the fence with this one. Any other parents here who have tried to play this with their young kids? The graphic style seems super charming so I'm tempted to pick it up but don't want to worry my kids about death.
Yep, after reading the 3/4-overhead perspective thing, my excitement has been tempered. I'm sure it will be good though, just not what I was expecting.
@Freek ahh I see what you mean. I lovvved Splinter Cell Blacklist and really appreciated the use of the Gamepad there. The music during the Benghazi mission was legendary.
I enjoyed it but I don't plan on playing a farming game for a long time after having played and beat this. Repetitive farming tasks are one thing, but having to chase down NPCs on a daily basis in order to increase their affection to unlock side stories/cinematics became a real chore.
If this is the future of third party games on the Switch, let us always remember fondly the efforts of those companies that put in blood, sweat, and tears to make graphics-intensive third-party games like Doom, Witcher 3, Hellblade, Warframe, etc a reality on the Switch. May their efforts never be forgotten regardless of what cloud gaming means for third parties on Switch.
@Severian MK11 was the first MK I have played since Deception way back and I have to say, there are some very unique and creative (and yes, some disgusting) fatalities. It's not all just dismemberment. If you have the stomach for it, I would recommend trying it out. Definitely the best MK I have ever played, even if the Switch version is inferior.
@smashboy2000 Ohhh, that must be why I remembered Vulture, except in this one, he was played by Michael Keaton. Malkovitch would have been a better pick in my opinion but I do remember enjoying the movie. I also did watch the trilogy with Tobey Maguire. I liked 1 and 2, but 3 just didn't sit right with me (and many other fans from what I remember). After that they rebooted with the other guy, don't know his name. I watched only part 2 of those (forgot if it was a trilogy as well) and enjoyed it as well (the one with Emma Stone).
@smashboy2000 I'm so disconnected from the Spiderman films at this point that I thought that movie with Vulture was released and I had missed it. I had no idea it was canceled altogether!
It was a great game but that might be the last time we see Samus speak if the haters have anything to say about it. The gameplay was a lot of fun and the cinematics added some background story in ways other Metroid games did not dare. Unfortunately she came across as a bit of a weakling at times which killed her image, but the game itself was very solid.
